Open Thread

Shiny new open thread! What’s on your mind?

Netroots officially starts tomorrow morning! We’ve had fun meeting up with old friends. And we’ve decided that Las Vegas is a long long way from Alaska. And I don’t mean just geographically.

which tells how drilling is being STOPPED in Chukchi Sea!

$Ps stupidity is one of those things that’s so all-encompassing funny and so laughable, but at the same time, so damned scary.

Since I’m sure as heck *not* going to ‘join’ her, I’m just going to have to hope and pray that her own record, words, and deeds will *finally* get through to the misguided souls who think she’s the neatest thing sliced (white) bread — that her *own* record, words, and deeds will end up beating her. (Lord knows, the logic of the sane, about her, doesn’t seem to be making the slightest dent, yet, in the ‘thought’ process (singular) of her adoring fans!)

Keep a’spewin’ darlin’, $P, just keep right on a’spewin’. You can only refudiate so much of your garbage — mark my words: the rest of it, you will be held accountable for.

Enough with the Palin master-minded epidumbic, already! She is an idiot. beth.

I say they add Octomom and the Duggers to the trip. You will then have 4 moms and 40 kids, sounds about right!

Wow…I just heard about this. This train wreck keeps getting more bizarre. I can’t even grasp what the thinking would be to have Kate and kids on this project. Isn’t it supposed to be a show about Alaska? Did they change it to a sit-com (a really bad one)?

    • LoveMydogs says:

Well, I guess SP ran out of things to say and do in Alasssska all by her lonesome, so now they are going to put the trainwreck that is Kate G and her kids in there to draw in more of the tabloid crowd? It would be hilarious if it weren’t so embarrassing for my state. And she is going to show Kate and the kiddiies how to avoid a bear? Hmmmmm, that has all kinds of scenarios rumbling around in my tired head. I was driving home from work last night and a HUGE brown bear ran across the road in front of my vehicle (about 3 roads from my house). It was an awesome sight, but I sure was glad I wasn’t taking the dogs out for a walk. He/she was on the move after something and I would have just been in the way. Just imagine Kate and her 8 kids, SP and Chuckles and some other offspring of the Palin clan out there ringin’ their bear bells…bwahahahaha. Ah, there are so many more qualified people to be showing off (instead of selling out) our state.

watched Morning Joe, and was amused/infuriated by the crowd doing the same thing they were lamenting, i.e. jumping to conclusions without having the facts. They insisted that the White house had a part in the Sherrod debacle, even though the White House and Vilsack say no. Jonathan Capeheart said his reporting indicated that the White House really didn’t participate, and he was scoffed at.

And yes, I agree that this is a good time for a sueing. It’s no wonder that Vilsack and the President want her to take the next job with usda, since it might preclude her sueing.

    • That’s exactly why I don’t watch Morning Joe. He seems to fit better with the Fox folks, and I usually find him irritating, disrespectful and ill-informed.

    • nswfm says:

This is the problem with 24/7 media. There’s too much time to fill and they fill it with bullsh:t. It’s speculation and they are trying to pass if off as news. Meanwhile the real news is getting lost and we go to Iraq to find non-existent WMD. When they said there were going to be 500 TV channels in the 90s, I thought there’s barely any thing good on the existing channels, what in the h3ll are we going to do with 500? This is the result.

If you missed KO and Rachel Maddow last night, take some time and check out their websites. Keith did a special comment about the Sherrod story and he pulled no punches, criticizing the White House as well as Breitbart and Fox. I think it was one of his best special comments and I hope that the President sees it and pays attention.

Rachel did several segments about the Sherrod case, including one about how Fox has used their ‘breaking stories’ to incite fear among their white listeners towards black people, just like the segregationists did during the civil rights movement. She showed how the four biggest ‘scandals’ broken by FOX were all based on false allegations or downright lies and were all focused on making black people look threatening. When the stories were proven false, Fox never admitted it and continued to use excuses or diversions to avoid taking responsibility.

I also find it interesting that right wingnuts constantly claim that liberals worship Obama and think he can do no wrong. It seems to me that many people on the left have been critical of the Obama administration (often to unreasonable levels) while no one on the right will EVER admit to making a mistake. The administration and Vilsack have admitted that they made a mistake and publicly apolgized to Ms. Sherrod. Anything resembling an apology from Breitbart or Fox and crew??? Ha!!!

Breitbart has now gone over the edge and tried to divert attention from his horrible attack by claiming that CNN didn’t verify that the farmer’s wife was actually who she said she was when they interviewed her. “I just burned down your house but look over there…there’s someone letting a purple unicorn poop on your sidewalk! Aren’t they terrible????? Don’t pay any attention to the pile of ashes that used to be your house…look at the pooping purple unicorn!!!!”

And now Ann Coulter is defending Breitbart by saying he was set up. Please!!!

    • Wallflower says:

I was impressed, as always, with Maddow’s coverage. I don’t always like Keith’s special messages, but when he started directing his words directly to Ms Sharrod I actually teared up.

I think the solution to Fox, in particular, is simple–they should just be required under truth in advertizing laws to remove the word News and substitute Propaganda. People could still watch them and engage in their little fantasies, but that way, no one could be confused.

    • A fan from CA says:

I agree both KO and Rachel were great last night.

While Rachel was talking about the “Southern” strategy I couldn’t help but think that R’s are using the same “fear” tactic to frame the immigration issues. Be afraid, be very afraid because the “illegals” are going to commit a crime against you.

      • mag the mick says:

fan, that’s exactly what the Republicans are doing here in Arizona. Our governor, various sheriffs, and state legislators are making statements about what illegals are doing that would make one’s hair curl. None of these stories are true, but people BELIEVE them. As we’ve seen from history, a cowed, fearful populace is easier to deceive, and the cheap, quick way to acheive “unity” is to give the people a group scapegoat.

    • Jo Ann says:

I tuned in Limbaugh this a.m. to see what he’d have to say and, of course, everything is being blamed on the Administration…watched Fox too last night after having seen Rachel and Keith’s shows….they twisted it too and are blaming the Administration.

Freedom of Speech is important to have for all Americans, but I’m really feeling certain ones should be muzzled! I cannot imagine being Rush Limbaugh…he hates President Obama and has talked about his dislike day upon day for two to three years now.

I hope Mrs. Sherrod does sue Breitbart over this situation. I cannot imagine what she went through.

Off-topic (but it is an open thread) I’m wondering where the team of super-high-powered lawyers is that is going to offer its services to Shirley Sharrod pro bono to sue Andrew Brietbart (sp?) and Fox News. Several years ago an African American woman won a wrongful death suit against the KKK and ended up owning their office headquarters. No one died in the attack on Shirley Sharrod, but it would be nice to see Fox and What’s-his-name dinged in the only place that hurts them–the wallet.

    • leenie17 says:

I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that Ms. Sherrod is considering legal action. I’m usually not a big proponent of suing but this is one case where I hope she does and wins big. It’s the only way to stop this disgusting practice of lying and unjustified defamation that is the hallmark of Fox, Limbaugh, Breitbart and the rest of the hard right-wingers.

    • jojobo1 says:

You got that right and Fox deserves it.This is not the first time they have used edited tapes or stolen items or pictures that were proven false.

Does anyone familiar with the AK rules know if you have a kid who is not Native and they’ve been getting health care as though they are, what happens? That seems like insurance fraud, to me. But if the kid is adopted? What are the rules for covering the non-Native adopted kid? Any one know? Could this be the Al Capone moment?

If she’s seen it, she’ll digest it as another example of how hateful and vile all Muslims are… how evil Islam is, I’d hazard.

Sadly, I think too many Umurricans let stories like this fester within them as an accurate picture of *all* members of any given race, religion, creed, nation of origin, etc. And, being so full of so many of these stories, it takes very little to push them over the edge to act out –violently– on them.

For some reason, it’s very difficult (if not impossible) for such folks to comprehend that the actions of one, five, or even a couple-dozen, are *not* representative of ALL the (specific!) *other*…they are representative of specific fanatics who just happen to be: *other*. I truly believe $P gutterally knows this — and maddeningly, boogerishly exploits the hell out of it. beth.

She is a loose canon and that does have consequences in International Relations and it doesn’t help that she has no clue about history or gerography or who the leaders are….I could go on forever about what she willfully, does not know.

“This is a complicated war we’re in, and Sarah Palin is, by the evidence at hand, dangerously simple-minded.”

Interesting read and he makes some very valid points.
