UPDATE: Exxon Wins Safety Award. No, Really.
In this weeks “No really, this is not an Onion article,” Exxon Mobil proudly announced that the National Safety Council awarded it
the “Green Cross for Safety medal at its annual fundraising dinner in Houston last night. The dinner honored ExxonMobil for its leadership and comprehensive commitment to safety excellence.”
While the award winner was decided earlier last year – one might question the safety record of Exxon after the growing Mayflower oil/tarsands spill. But to the National Safety Council I guess that’s not a safety issue.
The award was given at a fundraiser for the National Safety Council sponsored by UPS, Dow Chemical and… ExxonMobil.
Janet Froetscher the National Safety Council President and CEO said [with not a bit of irony] “It is evident that ExxonMobil is committed to excellence in safety, security, health and environmental performance, The Council is honored to recognize ExxonMobil with the Green Cross for Safety medal. This organization is a wonderful example of the role corporations can play in preventing injuries and saving lives.”
It should be noted that on the NSC Board sits, a Jeffrey J. Woodbury Vice President, Safety, Security, Health and Environment of the Exxon Mobil Corporation. Michael F. Henderek a retired safety program manager also is a board member
I’m sure the donations and the board members had nothing to do with the award.
Congrats Exxon. Hopefully you can come up to Alaska and make us attractive again.
Here’s some of Exxon’s greatest safety moments.

UPDATE: Exxon failing miserably at what a ‘cleanup’ is supposed to be. Check out the video – paper towels left on scene to… I guess absorb the oil? Warning – video has a few swear words… but nothing you won’t ay out loud yourself when you watch it.

Actually the did win the award for most destruction to humanity…aka Safety award…
We’re six days past April Fools Day. Guess Exxon didn’t get the memo.
It’s even worse than we knew. Bitumen (tar sands oil) is NOT classified as oil (!), so Exxon doesn’t have to pay into the clean-up fund to transport it:

Beyond belief.
Blinders firmly in place, eh? Left hand refusing to acknowledge the consequences of what the right hand is doing…
Rather reminds me of the abused who refuses to leave their abuser because the abuser provides them with food and a roof over their head. How incredibly sad. beth.
Isn’t it sad..that a ..backdrop..showing the life forms..that have been lost/mutated..could not have been shown..as the awards gathering..was held?
Escuse me, I have to go hurl up my breakfast.
Oh for crap’s sake. It IS real.
