Texas Has Stolen Our Meme, and This Cannot Stand.
Heeeeey. we’re the ones who are supposed to have the disturbing secessionist tendencies. That’s our meme! Who does this guy think he is?
“Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that. My hope is that America, and Washington in particular, pays attention. There’s a lot of different scenarios. We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot, to boot.”
He’s probably just some grizzled old, livin’ in seclusion, grumpy eccentric out there on a well-fortified ranch, who likes to stick his thumbs in his pockets and puff out his chest and say to the president, “Yeah….(spits tobacco juice on the ground)….you got a nice ‘union’ and all, but you better watch it Mister.”
What? That was Rick Perry, the governor of Texas who said that? But Alaskans are the ones that are supposed to say, “We don’t like the feds around these parts.” Yeah, the federal government is the biggest employer in the state and we get more pork per capita than anyone in the country, but we like that rhetoric, dammit. It makes us feel all mavericky! And now Texas is stepping on our toes? This will not do.
Alaskans like to say (especially to visiting Texans) that if you cut our state in half, Texas would be the third largest state in the union. Surely, we won’t allow ourselves to be outdone by this shmoe. We shall anxiously await some kind of press release from the governor’s office using words like “sovereign” and “independent,” and references to the fact that we never voted properly to determine whether we should be a state or an independent country. She cannot let this stand.
In the mean time Mr. Perry….why don’t you come up here and say that?
Hey, Diane…now that’s a great idea! Maybe Bushie could be one of their servants!
On another thought, some of these presidents mentioned before may have come from Texas, but the rest of the nation had a part in electing them. We should not be blamed. Furthermore, most of us in Texas don’t claim GWB…he’s not really a Texan, I don’t care what he says! Governor Good Hair has to go, too. We haven’t had a great govenor since Ann Richards.
Being one of Governor Perry’s constituents, I wrote his office and suggested that if he doesn’t want to be part of the U.S., he should step down and let’s get someone in office who loves our country. An alternative…he and Palin could start their own country. There’s a pair! King and Queen!
Perry is as bad as Palin….
Perry apparently does not know that the sucessionist issue was taken care of back in 1865 or so. Now, lemme see… 1865 came after 1845. Sooooo… yep. He’s a treasonous jackass. Grounds for impeachment.

I’m from Texas but Gov. Perry does not speak for me! Texas might secede from the Union? This man is a lunatic, right along with Palin and Bachman! Where did the three of them come from? Perry will surely lose the next election that he runs in. The three of them are only good for one thing – laughs!
All of you have a good evening. Thanks AKM for all that you do!
Did anybody hear my appeals yesterday regarding not reflecting the Governor’s or WAR’S behavior on the people that live here in Alaska? I feel the same way about Texas. I know Alaskans are extremely ethnocentric about where they live so I always figured others felt the same way about their states anyway. It does shake up people’s confidence when Governor’s fly off the handle like that, especially when you see unnecessary divisiveness and no responsible game plan to back up their convictions. It’s easier dealing with the drama when you see Perry & Palin coming out of the AIP closet. About time, explains a lot of odd behavior.
Surely there is some nice cold, desert island where the governors of Alaska and Texas can set up shop. They can run the natives (rats??, insects?) their own way. Oh, they can also set up a new country and take a certain ex-president with them. 🙂
If he does come up, will you promise to keep him? No, I would not trade; although the Texas governorship is, by design, a no-op and Sarah could be Sarah without doing quite so much damage.
I suspect that if you did an inventory of the local blowhards and gasbags, you would find that a large fraction of them turned up during the oil boom and hale from Texas and Oklahoma. Yes, I know there have always been a lot of, er, eccentrics in Alaska, (I lived there from 1955-1961), but the welfare cowboys and the get rich quick strain seems to be a lot stronger now.
Rick Perry is a FRAUD and he does NOT speak for me!
When they say this stuff do they seriously think we feel threatened??!

the problem child IS MY NAME…….. exactly we are just venting, no one should have took offense to anything that was said. Texans (i was born one) have an idiot for a governor just like Alaska. But I think some of us are really getting tired of these idiots spewing this hateful chit all the time.
Ga. Peach hurt my feeling this morning by posting what our idiots in state government slipped in the cover of darkness. We all got them, just some of them make the news and the rest of us learn the hard way of what they are up too.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Someone needs to inform the man that there are no degrees of uniqueness as well. Alaskans also need to realize that they are not the only mavericky ones, and Texas may be the third largest state if you split Alaska in two, but more people voted in my district than are in the state of Alaska, so that really doesn’t hold a lot of water. Are you actually endorsing the “Sarah Palin comes from the largest State, so that gives her some sort of credentials?” I’m not from Texas, but I do recall hearing something about a Texas secessionist movement in school. I also recall hearing that the entire South had the same idea….and maybe the secessionist movement in Alaska isn’t really something you want to be proud nor protective of.
Speaking of splitting states, I haven’t heard talk of seceding from the Union, but I have heard plenty of talk about dividing our state in two. So….maybe we are the unique ones? (But we are not more unique or less unique.)
Just saying.
To avoid this type of embarrassment, all TX had to do was elect Kinky Friedman as governor. Texas ain’t goin nowhere…but Perry will be moving out of the governor’s mansion soon.
BTW, AK is not a soverign state…there are no soverign states. SP saying it, don’t make it so.

You pointed out some reasons why Texas could not seceed and some problems. The whole issue is absurd anyway as far as having any ‘ logic ‘ to the discussion… But.. If you were to ask the Texans to make a choice and vote on the issue you would only have to point out this ‘ ONE ‘ fact to them.
Now we are talking’ totally absurd ‘… but then this is why this works.
Why they won’t do it…….. NCAA ” FOOTBALL” !!!! (sounds stupid huh…but true)
All those College football teams that they have in Texas would not be in any of the BCS Bowl games and could not compete with the other NCAA teams. Yeah they love their guns and all that …BUT these Texans could NEVER survive without their Football and being able to brag about it…. it’s in their bones.
And that’s just the college teams.
Remember their NFL Team moniker ” Dallas Cowboys- AMERICA’s Team”
It would not exist anymore. Gone !! They would never stand for it. 🙂
Ds55, thank you for that. I have been thinking all these things and wondering why anyone would spew all the rhetoric. In any state. The thing that kills me is when people were protesting the Iraq war it was these same clowns calling protesters “Unpatriotic” and “UnAmerican”.
Just a few months ago that nutbag from MN Bachmann was screaming about who serving in the US congress were Anti-American.
I am pretty damn tired of this talk and the silly rhetoric associated with it what is wrong with these people?
Hope, please don’t lose “hope” and remember we are just venting a little, all us mudpuppies come and share because we feel common ground. Each and everyone of us in what ever area of this planet we dwell. That’s why we love it here at mudflats. Alaska is many things made up of many types of people, but holy cow it is entertaining, fascinating and yes very frustrating.
I can not tell you how important the mudflats has become in my everyday life.
Not only is it a very entertaining read, so well written, accurate and with great humor and incite, I find it to be a very good news source.
Texans I mean no insult to you, but I do love to tease.
I seem to remember that when push came to shove, Quebec wasn’t too keen on paying off their share of the national debt or assuming their share of the deficit.
I lived in Montreal during the sovereignty referendum of 1995 (?), which was pretty much the height of the secessionist fever. It was a very odd time, but it also never seemed real. Even when the secessionists came within a percentage point of winning.
It was kind of like, well if they had won the referendum, what would that have accomplished? Just proved that more than half of the people who voted wanted to find a way to do it. It wouldn’t have actually created a new country overnight. It was just a big opinion poll.
“NCAA and pro sports?”
This is the one that will doom it.
No more TX national champs in football!!!!
Perry will be tarred and feathered for sure.
ds55 If Bachmann and Perry are guilty of sedition, can they enter a plea to the lesser included offense of being morons?
hey come on over, the new thread is fine.
OMG, the US Gov’t agreed with Perry, at least for a bit: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/17/state-department-lists-te_n_188151.html
Teabaggers and secession, Greta Van Susteren and Glenn Beck video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3W-gmwnWLs
Back when Michelle Bachmann in Minnesota said Americans need to plan an organized revolution against the federal government, I had to lookup the difference between “treason” v.s. “sedition”.
According to Wikipedia, sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power. Treason is the violation of allegiance to one’s sovereign or state and has to do with giving aid to enemies or levying war. Sedition is more about encouraging the people to rebel, where treason is actually betraying the country. Sedition laws somewhat equate to Terrorism and Public Order laws.
So Michelle Bachmann and Gov. Perry are clearly guilty of sedition.
That so-called treaty doesn’t really exist, I believe (someone help me out here) but they could try to break up into several states just to get more Senators in office. But last voter demographic breakdown I saw had Texas turning more and more purple, so that would probably lead to more D senators as well (scroll down a bit)

I’d fill my table with TEXAS mudpuppies anyday…what’s that song…all my EXes live in Texas?
Perry and Palin spew at the mouth without giving any forethought to it.
As Laurie mentioned in #91 “They were given “distinct” status and all of Quebec has been a blessing to Canada. It did get to the point though, that many of us were writing and saying “let them go…we will live”. The really funny part is they wanted to be their own country with laws etc unto themselves….but….they wanted the Federal transfer payments that all provinces receive. ”
Quebec started the threats in or about 1980’s to 1990’s . Threatening to split from Canada yet still receive all Federal transfer payments. They wanted their cake and eat it too. Doesn’t work that way. Which is why the spewing by Perry & Palin is crap — filling the air with words that their followers will eat up with no knowledge of what it means.
The Court actions went on for years in Canada on agreements that they were based on — the balance of Canadian Provinces repealed the parts of agreements it was so based. In fact the two agreements have since died. The expression to recognize Quebec as a nation of Canada was never legally binding. May still be used in Quebec, more by the Nationalists, but has faded through the rest of the country.
Here’s the wiki link if you’re interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distinct_society
The reward for threatening to ‘split from Canada’ was to gain the moniker of ‘distinct society’ or ‘Quebec, a nation within Canada’. Years of Court, mega bucks — for squat. Actually – boring.
As Laurie & I both said, we came to the point of saying “Fly, be free — Go!! Leave!!”

The “Perry Secession Talk” headline was on HuffPo all day yesterday and had over 1,700 comments before it dropped off their Politics page. My first thought was “You and what Army?” I can visualize a small band of yahoos armed to the teeth, hiding in the woods, followed by 5 minutes of loud explosions, leaving gaping holes in the ground. Secession over. End of story.

As usual with HuffPo topics, the reader comments are more fun than the article itself. My favorite lists questions for Gov. Perry. Substitute “Alaska” for “Texas” and we can mail it to the AIP.
———–
1) Do you force all of your citizens to join you or can some leave Texas and move to the USA? What will your immigration and naturalization policies be?
2) Perhaps we can trade all of the USA owned property in Texas for all the value of the social security, medicare, and other valuable services due Texas citizens. You keep the property in Texas, we keep the funds owed to Texans. Deal?
3) What are you going to use for money? USD would be a foreign currency to you.
4) Foreign (USA) owned companies operating in Texas? And Texas companies with foreign branches in the USA?
5) Do you want to negotiate trade agreements with the USA? You may want to import some food.
6) How are you going to guard your borders to keep illegal aliens (USA and Mexico citizens) out?
7) Foreign student exchanges with USA schools and colleges? NCAA and pro sports?
8) Broadcast signals from the USA? Managing content?
9) Note you’ll also have to negotiate arms agreements with foreign countries like the USA. You’ll want to raise an Army, Navy, and Air Force. You’ll need some factories to build war ships, tanks, and other weapons.
10) Don’t count on being a nuclear power. You’ll find the US President frowns heavily on nuclear proliferation to third world powers.
——————-
And on MSNBC yesterday, they warned Texas that the USA likes to invade oil-rich foreign countries. LOL!

Hope, I don’t think anyone thinks the idea of states seceeding is funny. The circumstances in which it is being proposed, the people proposing it, and the overwhelming fringy nuttiness of it, on the other hand, are hilarious. It’s okay to let our hair down every once in a while and contemplate the ridiculous.
Don’t lose hope, Hope. Humour is healthy.
Rick Perry is an idiot and an embarrassment to our state and DOES NOT represent the majority of Texans when it comes to secessionist rhetoric. With his approval ratings at 39%, he faces a losing battle to retain his place in the governor’s mansion against Kay Baily-Hutchison and he’s rallying whatever is left of his base and, unfortunately, they are of the more extreme, lean-to-the-radical, “Texas Republic” type of voters.
I personally think that Perry knows the governorship is a lost cause and he’s trying to position himself for a VEEP or POTUS run in the future. (What a boost that would be the Dems!)
The truth of the matter is that Texas CANNOT secede and the fact that Perry flirts around this issue also flirts around the issue of treason though, of course, that issue might be bandied about but he’ll never be called on it. http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/exhibits/annexation/part5/question11.html
For those who snark on Texas/Texans, remember there are many Texans here who have supported AKM and rallied against Sarah Palin and her many tantrums. We’ve written Alaskan legislators, attorneys, congressmen, etc. Many of us are working tirelessly down here in Texas to turn our state Blue.

Oooh, should have read all the way through before commenting. Debbie aka Commando Coalfire covered the status of Bush if Texas were to secede before I did. So sorry.
I don’t want anyone to secede the union. I just want the ones who are blathering about it (including Michele Bachmann) to stop with the nonsense. It’s not helping matters at all.
Regarding Texas:
If their citizens can choose to succeed, may the rest of us choose to throw them out? Texas has caused so much anguish to the United States especially with all the influence they’ve had on our federal government; especially the unnecessary wars their citizens (Johnson, Bush, etc.) dragged our country through. If it weren’t for Texas, the United States would now be a different and better place. Thousands of brave patriotic young men who lost their lives in wars waged by Texas presidents would have instead grown old. I hope we won’t have any more presidents from Texas for the next thousand years or so. And I also hope we won’t have any presidents from Alaska any time soon.
I must repeat, this is a FARCE! Look at the carefully crafted way Perry speaks;
“When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.”
It may have been an “issue”, but there IS no way out.
What a FARCE!!!!
DOESN’T ANYONE KNOW THEIR HISTORY OR LAW?
There IS no law, or contract. or vehicle of any kind, that allows ANY state to secede. The only way to do that would be to declare war on the US, which would be treason. Words DO mean something folks.

As for Governor Goodhair, I think it’s all hot air. However, if Texas did secede and become its own nation, that would mean that Bush would no longer be a US citizen, which would mean…LOCK HIM UP, HAGUE!

And as another Note –
How many Treaties were broken with Native Americans?
How about Treaties with other Countries?
Saying it can be done because ” its in a treaty” Ha ha ha
Try enforcing that one.
Seems the Republicans these days are like Spoiled Bratty Children – instead of accepting the loss with – they want to take their marbles & leave the game. (Hell, now the want to take the playground with them!) They know that Bush & Company have turned the US citizens against their Party because of: blatant lies, abuse of power, torture, invading a sovereign nation, outing Confidential Operatives, and a thousand other reasons.
When Bush was “appointed” President – did the Dems behave like this? No. They, along with most of this country, reluctantly said, he is my president and I will support him. Was Gore out there backstabbing Bush like Cheney ? No.
They are doing more damage to their name & party by behaving this way.
Shame on them.

We need alternative energy because as soon as the world’s economies start going again (pray they will!) gas and oil will skyrocket again.
Companies do not want to spend big bucks on drilling and oil shale/sands ect now because it costs too muc. When the price goes up to $140 a barrel again, they may want to drill then, but no one could afford this high a price for long.
Alt energy is what we should focus on while gas is cheap.
Canadian neighbour said it very well on the previous topic I think. We had the same kind of thing going on in Canada with Quebec for many a year. We are already a bilingual nation which is fine…but it was done to be good to Quebec as it was one of their demands/requests.
The whole thing became very tiresome. I love Quebec and Montreal has my heart…but geez louise….it began to feel as though someone was standing over the rest of us in Canada with a huge hammer.
They were given “distinct” status and all of Quebec has been a blessing to Canada. It did get to the point though, that many of us were writing and saying “let them go…we will live”. On Chris Mathews last night, it was said that since 1861 or some year of the Texas treaties, Texas signed to split into 5 “states” if they so choosed , but nowhere did it say they can suceed…in fact, per this treaty, it is prohibited…they STILL must be part of the United States, albeit maybe 4 additional states, but part nonetheless.

Greetings from Texas!
As much of a Mudflats fan I’ve become, I was kind of hoping or Guv’s latest hair brained meme might slip under your radar. But once again, I find myself having to defend the state I love. Perry’s in a losing primary fight against Sen. Kay “Big Hair” Hutchinson and he’s suffering from Rovarian cancer. Given the terminal nature of the disease, Perry, like so many Texas Republi-crumbs, has settled on a strategy of holding his breath until we turn blue. Most of us down here remember what happened when we tried o secede when the the sitting President was from Illinois.
Neither Alaska nor Texas have the economic nor basic infrastructure required to be a self-sustaining nation and both have hungry neighbors perfectly willing and ready to overwhelm them the day they leave the US. These secessionists never seem to factor that in. Texas belonged to Mexico originally, so guess who’ll come knocking with sheer numbers? Actually, my Mom, a Texan, said that Texas would not be allowed constitutionally to stay whole if it broke away. She said that it was required to partition itself into five ‘states’ or provinces. ‘Must be something in their original agreement back in the 19th century? They’d leave then turn around and still ask for assistance from the US just to survive.
And for all the mudpuppies that are Texan , no matter where you are now , this is for you :

Aw, Tedisco must be channeling Norm Coleman!
I love the phrase “Repotaliban”. The scary thing about it is that it’s a little too true isn’t it?
Well I just got plucked off ADN for saying it was sad Sarah had left the state to pursue her own interests with so much at stake here. Wow that’s really controversial. The lunatics have definitely taken over the newspaper.
Now if Perry would just come up here and start pallin’ around with the Palinista it would be a perfect day.
I’m exhausted after this week.
Talk against the POTUS and the USA is only treasonous and un-American if you are speaking against when the high and mighty Repugs are in power, trashing our constitution and trampling our individual rights. When you are a bigoted Repug sore loser and speak that way, you are supporting the true America. Racism is the biggest common denominator in all of this. Only saw a few folks of color waving tea bags in New Mexico.
So glad about the offshore drilling decision.
On the energy note, PA is tapping into 3.5 billion (what is it feet or cubic feet) of natural gas, I heard it’s enough gas to single handedly provide all the natural gas neded for the country for 3.5 years. As other states start marketing their own fossil fuels- easier and cheaper than you can on the ice cold tundra, I fear Alaska will fall way behind. It’s just so much cheaper not to deal with the weather.

MSN last night said if Gov Perry cant be POTUS then he want to be The President of Texas. Heaven help us please the lunatics are out in full capacity , Palin & Perry Oh My. Who’s next Jinglebells?
Who’s next? WE have a candidate here in NY. The Republican candidate for the 20th district seat in Congress (to replace Dem Kirsten Gillibrand who was “promoted” to Senator when Hillary became Sec. of State) — Jim Tedisco is that candidate. This is historically a Republican district — until a few years ago. He doesn’t actually live in the district, but somehow was allowed to be candidate. Scott Murphy, the Dem is a total newcomer. Close election on 3/31. Tedisco sued a few min. after poll opened to be declared winner. No clear winner so absentee ballots being counted, all machine ballots re-done. Murphy is ahead by a few more than 200 votes, and yesterday Tedisco sued again, this time asked the court to declare HIM(?) the winner. They are all crazy.
Next thing you know, those darned Texans will claim that their state is “God’s Country”…what are they thinkin’?
It can be easily done.
Everyone that wants to stay, move to the north half of Texas. Everyone that wants to secede, move to the south. Then just draw a line from New Mexico to Louisiana and divide the state.
There you go.
We’ll never miss them.
And….I believe that puts Bush in the south half.
I don’t get it. Why would we think this is humorous? Why would we want to goad everyone into an ever more divisive hatred spree?
Thanks to everyone for helping to keep Alaska from a huge misstep yesterday. I’m getting dizzy, though, so I think the balance is off on all sides. I know I won’t be missed, but frankly, I, personally have got to find some people who actually care about the bigger picture and are trying to get us ALL through this alive. It’s not hard to find people to feed the flames.

@crystalwolf aka caligrl
yes, I’m amazed that Texans are fully supporting this. I wish all these states that are UN-patriotic (yes, you heard me-unpatriotic) would just leave…go away!
Where would they be without military protection, fire, police, schools, gov asst…ALL funded by the government. GUFFAW!!!

Perry came up in the Republican party along with The Shrub and Tom DeLay and other unsavory characters like that. In the primary for the next governor’s race, he’s going to go up against a really strong Republican woman with seniority in the US Senate, Kay Bailey Hutchinson. It’ll be fun to watch her whoop up on him for making such antagonistic, stupid allegations towards secession. He’s part of the old Bush school of “lower taxes, protect the wealthy, screw the poor, elderly and disabled who don’t vote Republican” types. No doubt he’s still ticked off that Obama won, and instead of coming up with positive forward motion to save the state and its residents in these bad times, he’s being pissy about seceding.

It was sugested on the radio yesterday that if Texas was no longer part of the US, Mr. Bush would no longer have the protection of the US government since he would be living in a foreign country.
Spain who wishes to prosecute him for war crimes could then invade Texas and no one would care. They could then haul him back to Spain and have their way.

As far as I see it…these “tea parties” are nothing more than left over, McCain/Palin followers from the campaign, being stirred up by the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, Joe the Plumber, etc.
I listened to Hannity last night. The word “socialist” stated by him, was in every sentence. My husband LOVES Hannity, because he loves to sit there and laugh at him.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Taxes. It has EVERYTHING to do, to stir hate in this country. Once it gets out of control, someone is going to get hurt really bad.
And that person, I am afraid is President Obama. Someone is going to try to assassinate him, all because they are stirring the pot.
You all seen the signs at these “Tea Parties”. It had nothing to do with Taxes, and all to do, with the lowest of low, in this country. Taking pot shots at the President, just like everyday in the news, of the McCain/Palin campaign.

(former Denverite – Englewood)
Following the presidential election in 2000, I (along with many others) felt that the election results were not honest and that it was wrong, wrong, wrong for Bush to be allowed to take office. Following the presidential election in 2004, I felt so depressed that the thought of four more years with Bush as President seemed unbearable. What did Democrats do as a result of these two elections? They swallowed the bile, accepted the fact that Bush was in office, and then got to work to do all they could to ensure different results in mid-term elections and in the 2008 presidential election. They worked within the law to change things. At no time did I ever hear talk of seceding from the union. I guess this is more evidence of the great difference between the two parties as they exist today. The totally irresponsible actions of some of the so-called leaders (elected and in the media) within the Republican party is appalling and is providing fuel to a very disturbing element within our society.
Be kind, fellow mudflatters! I have children and grandchildren living in Texas and I don’t want to have to present a passport to visit, thank you. Besides, like Alaska, Texas has it’s share of A$$hats and idiots. The latest poll shows that over 75% of the voters want to stay in the union. Rick Perry is an idiot with big hair. Must have injured his brain to grow it. When you think of Texas, think of Molly Ivins, Ann Richards of “Poor George” fame, and of course, Ask M&H. Don’t forget Barbara Jordon, either.
I once lived in Texas, and I’m here to tell you they never quite got over being their “own country.” That’s why it’s the Lone Star state, and why it is that Texas is the ONLY state who is legally allowed to fly its flag at the same height as the Stars & Stripes.
Also too (two), Texas has been considered “the California of the South.” (with apologies to Calif mudpuppies)
Also (three? 🙂 ), if Perry has committed treason (sedition?), then so has Michelle Bachman with her call-to-arms in MN. And a few others that I can’t think of right now.
good heavens.
“Heeeeey. we’re the ones who are supposed to have the disturbing secessionist tendencies. That’s our meme! Who does this guy think he is?”
Rick Perry is a George Bush lap dog. Now that he isn’t getting directions from the Bushies he is showing what an incompetent moron he is. If you look at photos taken while Duhbya was Governor you will find lots with little Rick standing close enough to get into the photo, the picture of the perfect sycophant.
I suspect that the States Rights idea is a RepoTaliban trial balloon and Perry and Palin have decided to take it to its most idiotic extreme.
As mentioned here before, Perry won his last election as Governor with 30% of the vote. The rest of the votes being split between so many candidates that he got the plurality with just 30%.
He knows he is toast unless he can find a rallying point. That he picks such a stupid point to try to gain support, tells you just about all your need to know about Rick.

Hey, wait just a darn minute. I’m a native Texan; been here all my life. That’s probably why I care so much about you good Alaskans and the shenanigans going on up there….we are more alike than we are different! We have our Texas variety of Republican nincompoops down here to put up against YOUR Republican nincompoops and the other random Dougan butts up there. (I’ll “see” your Palin poopiehead and “raise” you a Perry poopiehead….)
Perry came up in the Republican party along with The Shrub and Tom DeLay and other unsavory characters like that. Sorry to disappoint anyone, BUT WE AREN’T SECEDING. Perry’s an idiot. Think of him as a male version of Palin, but smarter, and no lipstick. (Oh, one of HIS nicknames is “Governor Good Hair”.) Unlike YOUR pitbull, Perry doesn’t make news down here for doing openly illegal things, none of his personal family issues make the papers, and he pretty much avoids the nasty whining memos and complaints routinely coming from YOUR governor. As governors go, he’s just an ass, unlike your governor who is a whining, vengeful, low-class, turd blossom.
I am thinking of all the good-hearted Alaskans and Texans who love the LAND on which they live. The energy of place that is in each state that is so precious to some
of the people who live there. So why should they have to be ‘given away’ just because they have some real jerks in elected offices.
So I was trying to think of a country poor enough that it would take in all the Texans and
Alaskans who want to secede from the US. So they would have their own little
country…or reservation…Rick could be president and guess who could be vice-president of the new ‘county’?
I, for one, would contribute to their
‘dowery’, to get them out of here.

You know if we spin this (we have had the best teacher to show us how) what if the citizens of the states of Alaska and Texas say they want to secede from the government in place in the state. Citizens are tired and they want to divorce, the governor, senates, house, etc; hhmmm, wonder how these to governors would answer that question.
Isn’t it the same thing the two so called Governors are saying right? I mean we have the same arguments about we are tired of the state getting in our business, taking our money in taxes, telling us what we can do with our own property, were we can smoke, drink, cuss, and don’t forget what we can wear.

I doubt it – they seem to be MUCH better educated.
@Lainey, I swear, I think that is why the conservative right is so against intellectuals and education: they know that if people get smarter, they can see through the lack of philosophies and solutions. They want to keep their supporters dumb; they think ignorance is bliss.
I grew up in southwest Kansas, which isn’t that far from the panhandle of Texas, as the crow flies. I had a friend in elementary school who moved from Texas and I was amazed that she seemed to think of it as it’s own country – and that was in the 50s. So this is really nothing new. It’s just incredibly odd that it’s coming from the governor. And then Tom Delay was on Chris Matthews last night and pretty much said the same thing – not that they should secede, but that because of the treaty when they came in to the US they have the right to do it. That’s just nuts.
Call it what it really is – it’s treason, and they should be called on it.
Lainey don’t forget not only will they make more but they will brain wash them.

There would be kids and woman that were usually from Guatemala and Honduras who were selling flowers out of buckets full. So on one side of your car you would have the KKK at your window and the other some raggedy kid trying to make a buck selling carnations and roses. It was surreal, Some Texans were extremely prejudice people. Having come from outside of the Detroit area I was so shocked and saddened. Not only did he get his facts wrong (surprise!) read through it for a chilling description about his “state’s rights” chant. I hope he runs with Palin in 2012.
