Voices from the Flats – New Poll Shows Alaskans Must Vote Their Values AND Their Fears!

By Elstun Lauesen

In an alternate Universe, Lisa Murkowski listened to her wiser angels and did not run a write in. She then pursued a higher calling, along the lines of post-politician Fran Ulmer, and Lisa found a sinecure in an academic bunker and lived happily ever after. In that same alternate universe, Scott McAdams faced off with Joe Miller, conducted an effective persuasion and attack campaign and went on to win the U.S. Senate seat by roughly the combined anti-Miller vote of THIS universe, beating Miller 63% to 37%. McAdams goes on to become a great U.S. Senator and a fixture of Alaskan politics for decades to come.

But alas, this is our universe and, as we know too well, Lisa Murkowski didn’t listen to her angels—she shut them out in favor of a lot of vested interests and lobbyists who, according to her version of events, talked her into running a write in campaign. A new poll is now saying that Lisa’s noble experiment is most likely doomed and that the main beneficiary of her failure may be her nemesis Joe Miller.

The poll, by Public Policy Polling (PPP) of Raleigh, N.C. will be difficult for the Murkowski campaign to dismiss. PPP surveyed 1,539 likely Alaska voters with a 2.5% margin of error over the Halloween weekend.

Respondents selected Miller/McAdams/Murkowski 37/30/30. McAdams and Murkowski are tied. Lisa Murkowski has lost ground to McAdams from the last PPP poll. For reasons discussed below, the only hope for voters who are afraid of a Joe Miller victory is for Scott McAdams to gain enough support in the next 36 hours to cross Joe Miller’s downward trajectory and pull out a victory.

This conclusion is a bitter pill for Team Murkowski, but one that must be faced squarely by Democrats and Moderates planning to write in Murkowski if disaster is to be avoided.

MURKOWSKI HAS LOST STANDING AMONG CRITICAL GROUPS.

Only two weeks ago, the PPP gurus compared Murkowski’s chances of victory favorably with Charlie Crist of Florida . Two factors differentiated Murkowski from Crist:

1. Murkowski’s strong standing with a much larger independent segment; and
2. Murkowski’s credibility with Republicans from which she can grow her independent base.

But look at what has happened since October 14th. In the analysis provided with today’s (October 31) poll, PPP notes that Murkowski is likely to lose her race for two reasons:

1. “…she retained little goodwill from Republicans after deciding to make an independent bid…” She lost 4% of republican voter support since the earlier PPP survey;

2. “…she failed to dominate with independents…they are not providing her with a strong base of support the way Democrats are for McAdams and Republicans for Miller.”

MURKOWSKI’S NEGATIVES HAVE GROWN.

If you live in Lisa Land, it might come as a shock to you to learn that she is not well liked. In the sample only 37% felt positively about Lisa’s vs 53% who felt negatively about her. Joe Miller’s negative: positive ratio is not much worse than Lisa’s at 36% to 59%. Elsewhere, the PPP refers to a 50% approval rating for Lisa in early October . The current approval rating of 37% shows the extent to which her political capital has taken a beating in the last few weeks.

MURKOWSKI’S OVERALL SUPPORT IS IN DECLINE.

A comparative look at the numerical differences between an October 8,9 survey by PPP of the Alaska race and the October 31 results shows the extent of McAdams rise and Murkowski’s decline.

Voter Choice
PPP Survey Date             McAdams               Miller              Murkowski
October 8,9                              26                         35                           33
October 30,31                        30                         37                           30
Trend                                         +4                         +2                             -3

MURKOWSKI’S CAMPAIGN IS NOW AIDING MILLER.

Again, from the analysis accompanying the survey:

The high numbers of voters who like McAdams, dislike Miller, and are voting for
Murkowski place the race in a whole different light than has been thought of the last few months. Murkowski’s campaign, rather than propping herself up at the expense of Miller, may actually end up propping Miller up at the expense of McAdams. [Emphasis Added]

MURKOWSKI VOTERS MUST SWITCH TO McADAMS TO STOP MILLER.

$2 Million worth of campaign bathwater has been mixed with another million dollars of ANCSA Corporate Kool-Aid. This much juice makes a powerful concoction. The challenge to Democratic and Moderate Murkowski supporters is: can you stop drinking this patent medicine and snap out of it before the polls close on Tuesday? Alaska’s future depends upon it.

The PPP polling makes the truth obvious to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear. Scott McAdams will continue to rise, but he must get the support of Lisa Murkowski voters to beat Joe Miller.

It is absolutely critical that we all vote for Scott McAdams. Under these circumstances, a revision to the McAdams Campaign theme is in order. To those Democrats and Moderates considering a write-in vote for Lisa Murkowski, please…vote your values AND your fears; vote for Scott McAdams.

Not to distract people from voting (once the polls have opened), but here’s an opinion piece that further underscores why voting (McAdams!) is so important.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/01/AR2010110105660.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

By Richard Cohen. He really skewers the Governot.

  2. Kath the Scrappy says:

Talked to my Sis in Arizona last night. We both agreed (STRONGLY) that we don’t believe in all these pols flinging all over the place. Major factor is that so many people can’t afford both and have eliminated the landline. So they rely on their cell phones, which in most cases the pols don’t reflect.

Down in her state with all the backlash against Hispanics, they’ve totally ignored the Hispanic vote – a BIG chunk of the population. We have many friends that are people of color and frankly, like I told her, I think they may have unleashed the sleeping giant. Pissed off and eager to vote!

Up in Alaska, you have many of the First People. Also lots of Senior Citizens and Moms with kids in need of healthcare programs. Both Miller and Murkowski have clearly said they want to mess with Social Security as well as Medicare. I don’t care how the corporations tell them to vote, those people haven’t survived this long by being stupid.

So, I’m NOT doing the fearful by buying into the ‘Media Fear’ nightmare. I think the media has cooked up this story, fed it daily, and now has a need to keep stoking the fire just so they don’t end up with egg on the face.

    That’s just my take.

McAdams is a good, strong, sensible candidate. Everyone that has seen him speak jumps onto the boat. I would bank on that before any goofy pol counts, frankly. If by any REMOTE possibility Murkowski got any amount of votes, the National Democratic Council will be jumping on that count like ‘stink on sh!t’. They will NOT just walk away from this Senate seat without some MAJOR fight! Especially, given that McAdams is such a solid candidate with any ‘baggage’.

    • Kath the Scrappy says:

      Need to fix:

McAdams is such a solid candidate withOUT any ‘baggage’.

    • Millie says:

I think I agree with you – listened to different radio stations this a.m. to include Rick Rydell and Rush Limbaugh – could only stomach each for about 15 mintues. Rick is Republican and feels it will be between Miller and Murkowski. Limbaugh referred to Pelosi and President Obama (but he never says President) and suggested voting against the bastards – sounded kind of like Sister Sarah yesterday.

All the ads I heard and all the subject matter indicated Republicans going to substantially take over Congress, etc.

Polls this and polls that! I so hope these elections turn out like President Truman’s – don’t see how the majority of these polls could be accurate!

Felt wonderful voting for Mayor McAdams for the Senate!

  3. BigSlick says:

Nice pic of Joe the Loser, he appears to be about to cry as he watches victory slip from his grasp

  4. far from fenway fan says:

What I find incredible and incredulous is that with everything that went on in October in Miller’s campaign – news of his low income license, his wife’s unemployment compensation / job nepotism, his family getting govt-sponsored health care, arresting a journalist, personnel records released – with ALL that happening, his numbers went UP 2 points according to this poll. Please wake me from this nightmare.

If he wins this, I shall be seeking political asylum somewhere blue in order to regain my sanity.

  5. justafarmer says:

I soooo much want to see Tuesday be a tsunami for Palin & the tea party.
Certainly there MUST be intelligent voters out there that will step up and say “go away” to the idiots.

  6. Moose Pucky says:

With Alaska’s geography, this poll is could be fairly accurate from some place(s) in Alaska, but really we pay way too much attention to the polls and not nearly enough to the candidates. That’s only a thousand folks or so and Alaska is a big state–impossible for any poll to be accurate. Alaska is too diverse to worry about this.

What’s important is that McAdams numbers are rising with each passing moment.

The M&M’s are both weak candidates, and both have a loyal band of supporters. Joe the religious rebels against the establishment. Lisa the corporate establishment. They can split that vote.

McAdams is winning the hearts, minds, and votes of Alaskans everywhere across the state. He’s bringing new energy into the polling booths. New, fresh energy–much of it bi-partisan support.

People appreciate his positive campaign and his pragmatic messages.

    We can do this.

  7. kiksadi50 says:

It is very scarey to think that this time on wed. Miller might be our new sen. from Alaska.I live in Sitka, & you wouldn’t believe how many Miller signs there are.I don’t get it: he is an attorney, who hacked into 3 computersin an attempt to manipulate votes & help himself win a political race,& yet most alaskans still want him in office. He wants to abolish unemployment, and his wife collected unemployment. He has never mentioned Native rights or acknowledged the disasters facing rural residents. The people in the villages are scared: they can’t feed their families or heat their homes in the winter.Lisa screwed alaska when she insisted on writing herself in, even though she knew damn well that she was helping Miller & screwing Scott. Thanks Lisa.Your selfishness is going to result in a bigger political disaster than Sara Palin.Alaskans never seem to learn.Remeber the bumber stick seen in Alaska in the 1970’s? “Please god, give us another oil boom, we promise not to piss this one away” Electing Miller is a royal way to “piss” away the chance to help Alaska make sound solution focused decisions (that don’t depend solely on drilling) that will empower the whole state, not just the chosen few that Palin & Miller represent. Please, Murkowski fans, do the right thing, think of Alaska.Don’t let joe miller get into a position of power,do it for your kids.Miller wants to abolish the board of education.Scott will fight for your kids to receive the best education possible.

    • far from fenway fan says:

You are SO, SO right when you say: Lisa’s selfishness is going to result in a bigger political disaster than Sarah Palin.

I have been saying all along that if Lisa TRULY cared about Alaska she would have let Miller go head to head with McAdams. Scott would have won because he would have had Dem and mod Republican support plus left leaning Indies. It actually would have UNITED this state. But ego and selfishness prevailed. Now, she’ll be a two time loser in the same election cycle. I’m still hoping that sanity will prevail among her supporters who have yet to vote but I doubt it. The only winner in this pathetic race, regardless of who goes to DC, is Scott McAdams. He has run an honorable, above board campaign and I will proudly cast my vote for him tomorrow!

  8. London Bridges says:

Okay, there are 3 possible outcomes: McAdams, Murkowski, and Miller.

If McAdams wins, both Miller & Murkowski live to run another day.

If Miller wins, Murkowski’s political career is over. Then, in 2 years, Miller will decide to run for president, being a decorated veteran and all, and Palin’s political career is over. Or Palin outs or offs Miller and gets Miller’s Senate seat which has been her goal all along so she will have 2012 POS credibility.

If Murkowski wins – well that ain’t gonna happen unless both Miller & McAdams are caught in bed tonight with both Trig & Piper, so her only hope is for Lisa to withdraw tonight and support McAdams for the good of Alaska & America and to denounce Miller for what he is, and for the good of Alask and America.

    Any questions?

  9. Moose Pucky says:

Out, out, dang fear. It’s clear that McAdams has won the hearts, minds, and votes of Alaskans.

Miller and Murky are both weak candidates. Neither will win–as long as we dispel all fear and just keep on working hard.

  10. Heather Handyside says:

    Great article. Nicely done!

  11. Lee323 says:

The Hays poll had Miller at 23% last week. Now the PPP poll has him at 37%. Obviously, the polling methods differed strikingly….YET the negatives for Miller are sky high on BOTH polls. (Interestingly, Murkowski’s negatives are almost as high as Miller’s on this latest poll.)

The stability of the negative polling for Miller on both the Hays and PPP polls, combined with Murkwoski’s very high negatives, tell me that voting for McAdams is the route to beat Miller and Murkowski…..and elect the candidate, McAdams, who most Alaskans have a favorable opinion of. That’s representative government at its best, especially in a three-way race. Look at the negatives, folks!

If fearful Dems and moderates think that voting for Murkowski is the way to beat Miller, I suspect they will be sadly disappointed after the election.

  12. Magdalene says:

There is still hope AK – Bill Clinton has done a robocall for McAdams.

  13. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Lisa Murkowski, Joe Miller and Scott McAdams were headed for a bar. Lisa didn’t go in because she thought it was another exam to flunk, Joe couldn’t go in because it was set too high, and Scott decided he just couldn’t fit through the door so he stood at the entrance to shake everyone’s hand and smile.

    • Lee323 says:

Lisa, Joe, and Scott were all in the same row boat which developed a leak and was sinking fast. Lisa called her wealthy corporate backers to helicopter her out to safety, leaving the other two to drown. Joe stole the only rubber life raft for himself, jumped over the side in a panic, and lied to the media later that he heroically tried to save the other two. Scott plugged the damn hole, called the Coast Guard to come pick up crying Joe floating in circles aimlessly in his rubber raft, and rowed back to shore with little fanfare.

  14. faithful pup says:

All politics may be local but for the first time I am thinking about the ramifications of ALL votes that come into Congress. Local voters decide who votes on stuff that affects all US citizens’ futures. The Alaskans and the rest of us cannot afford to have Joe Miller type views deciding things for all of us. Please, please vote for Scott McAdams. Thanks to MSM I realized we all need to watch candidates in all states, not just our own. I can’t figure out why I didn’t realize this before.. I have been watching MSM push the extreme right with massive coverage. Please keep in mind the millions being spent are mostly on pay-offs and ADVERTISING. Follow the money and the craziness coverage explains itself. MSM is corporations and the bottom line is always the reason for what they care about and what they push. After I vote tomorrow, I will be @ home on pins and needles hoping for Joe, and others I want to have represent me, to WIN!! All politics is NOT local!

  15. CanadianGuy25 says:

Might also point out that 70% of respondents do not want Sarah Palin to run for president in 2012.

  16. CanadianGuy25 says:

The poll is available at http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_AK_1031503.pdf for the math nerds here.

  17. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Polls are not accurate in Alaska. I cheer the ones I like just for fun, but a poll is the last thing on earth I’m going to flip out over up here. I’m from a Undeclared and Nonpartisan voter household and most of the phone polls are fly by night. This trend will continue, because the public has shown itself to be easily manipulated by them. That’s too bad, but they will never influence me. My values influence me, and hopefully those around me.

The Rasmussen folks have said they are not going to poll this race at this late date (stated last week) because they know darn well that they don’t want to stake their reputation at on a poll, in this race, at this late date. Do something positive if you can!

    • fishingmamma says:

In AK – – -Polls are like salmon runs. Impossible to predict.,,,important…Not necessarily what we need…..but what comes up the river is what we learn to live with for the next year….or six years.

Do you want to live with the same salmon run for six years? Murky waters????

      We deserve better.

  18. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

I would suggest to those who are freaking out or ready to barf – go sign up at the ADN and Fairbanks Daily News Miner and post some positive, cheerful and intelligent comments in favor of Scott in the current articles about the Senate race. These reasonable, sane and often humorous comments go a lot further in convincing people that Scott has a great chance, and a great following, than wailing and ringing your hands here. Or send a $5-$10 last minute donation to Scott’s campaign which his campaign will use to the maximum benefit.

  19. fishingmamma says:

This poll makes me very hopeful. I will tell you why.

Not one pollster has been able to include the demographic that is most likely to support Scott – that is the “under 25” crowd. They are the new voters, the ones that swept Obama into office, the ones that communicate with the world on cell phones.

As my statistics professor would say, “this is not a normal population”, so the numbers are obviously skewed in favor of older voters. In this state, that means R voters. This poll does show Lisa losing ground to Scott AMONG THAT DEMOGRAPHIC!

Hang in there, Cut the hand-wrenching, it’s not over till it’s over.

    • Pamy says:

      Damn right. It aint over.

    • Dagian says:

It’s been “officially” noted on NPR that it’s not over (hawhawhaw–I kill myself sometimes!), because the Republican party is poised to capture seats in the Senate, with the exception of Alaska. At least that’s what I heard on the drive to work this morning.

McAdams is going to be the little engine that could. Or the big alpha orca that did. 😉

  20. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Hey, cheer up! The doom and gloom is enough! McAdams is an awesome candidate and not all Alaskans are whack jobs thank you very much.

  21. ks sunflower says:

Please Alaskans, do your part to save your state and our nation – vote for Scott McAdams.

He represents moderate, sensible concern for protecting your rights, your environment, and your safety nets. He will not sell you out to big corporations nor will he follow a party line regardless of how much that party line damages your interests. He is someone who has dedicated his life to his family, his community and to his state.

He has no baggage, owes no special interests, and does not have a radical personal agenda. There are no scandals associated with Scott McAdams. He is the real deal – a man who really cares about the people of Alaska and Alaska itself.

We need moderate voices, independent voices who represent how you feel, what you want, what you need. Scott McAdams will help Alaska and the entire nation.

I am voting for moderates and progressives here in Kansas, but if you send Joe Miller or Lisa to the Senate, you are undermining the entire country. Lisa’s heart is with the corporate interests out to rape and pillage your state. Joe is quite simply, unstable and dangerous.

Scott is a man who can make all Americans proud and grateful for his service. Please vote for him tomorrow!

  22. laprofesora says:

I am sick to my stomach thinking that Miller could win. C’mon, Alaska, think this through! I try hard not to be judgmental but if you elect Miller…well I’m just at a loss for words.

  23. Dagian says:

“Miller appears to be totally paranoid and is saying that he did not load the child pornography on his district computer – not that any has been found yet, but if it should, it was planted by the Murkowski campaign!

That WAS a bizarre interlude, wasn’t it? I mean, if he inherited somebody’s work station and he DID find this on there, he should have reported it IMMEDIATELY to his superiors/the IT folks. The very fact that he mentioned it, in connection with himself, put me on high alert.

Anyone here ever read Anna C. Salter’s work, “Predators”? It’s in connection with her professional work in the prison system (Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Public Practice
Harvard University). It also put me on to Robert Hare’s work on psycopaths and psychopathy (professor emeritus at University of British Columbia).

I’m nowhere near Alaska, but this guy is not someone “unafraid to speak his mind” or “eccentric”. He really appears to have a lot of big problems. More so than most!

    • Martha says:

      Miller OBVIOUSLY downloaded child pornography.

The manner and frequency in which he speaks about this makes it clear.

I watched the CEO of Google on the other day and he said that they keep ALL searches for about one year and WILL give them over to a court request.

A forensic search of the hard drives would turn up these searches regardless.

After all ,he was more than stupid when he erased passwords etc. in the first place so he would never know how to get rid of his search history.

      • Dagian says:

I agree. Few people actually know how to completely eradicate their tracks, I don’t believe that Miller is one of them.

He’s creepy, as well as putting off a lot of signal that indicate (politely) “unstable”. Goodness knows THAT hasn’t precluded some of the people who have gotten elected to senior class president, let alone Congress, but I would hope his string of lies would be the final nail in his election coffin. It’s worrisome to think that it wouldn’t be enough (lies, paranoia, etc.) to prevent him from being your representative for 6 years. Brrr.

Does anyone know what the correct term IS for Palin? I mean, she was a governor, but she quit. Does that mean she is formally and correctly addressed as Sarah Palin (no mention of ex-Governor [ex-Governot])? Really, I’m not being facetious.

It’s like trying to think of how to properly address a deposed dictator, or something.

        • Martha says:

          This makes me nuts.

          Palin HAS no title.

When you abdicate, you forfeit everything, including any claim to a title you once held.

If ANYTHING Palin should be referred to as the former mayor of Wassilla, or former second runner up for Miss Alaska.

          • Dagian says:

That’s what I thought! So when the gentleman who wrote the article in Politico was interviewed yesterday morning (or I heard it then) kept referring to her as “Governor Palin”, and no one was questioning him on the use of that title, I thought I was going to go a little crazy. Or crazier. I SO wanted to call in and challenge him on that, but realized it was either taped or there wouldn’t be any phone calls accepted.

            Grr.

I grinned maniacally when I saw the article in the Washington Post with her using big four-letter words like “crap”. Nothing says, “Elect me POTUS!” quite like using words like crap and phrases like “man up”.

            Dolt.

        • Molly says:

How about “Failed Former Governor of Alaska”?

        • slipstream says:

Palin’s official title is “WORST GOVERNOR EVER.” When she saw that on a banner in Homer, she was drawn to it like flies to a garbage truck. She knew it was about her. I think that makes it official.

      • Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Google may have absolutely nothing to do with this – it would be uncommon to use a search engine for child pornography for someone even of Miller’s questionable level tech skills. This is a network and they don’t find each other through Google for the most part.

With Miller, we don’t need to be making assumptions – what he has actually been caught doing is plenty, and it demeans our purpose to follow the Palin way of “makin’ stuff up”. It will all be moot when he loses this race, and when he raises his hair gel over Alaskan skies again is when we will dig further. Unless he implodes in the meantime and is forkable, which would be very pleasant.

        • Martha says:

Google was sued in 2006 because of their links to kiddie porn……

          http://www.smh.com.au/news/breaking/google-sued-over-child-porn-claims/2006/05/05/1146335905109.html

When Miller constantly yaps about this, it naturally invites speculation.

If you were to tell your neighbors that you were worried that a body would be found in your back yard and that it would be a “setup” and they shouldn’t believe you did anything wrong………what would they think?

          a:you are nuts

b:there is a body in your back yard

          c:both of the above

          I’ll go with “c”.

And they most likely would be reporting you to some type of authority, and you wouldn’t have to repeat it as Miller has done.

Miller’s computer fiasco, should be revisited because of his obsession with the probability of child pornography being found, if I were being sensitive, is what I should have said.

I just do not feel any obligation to be sensitive to the likes of Miller or Palin etc., but I do appreciate your worry of demeaning a purpose by being so blunt.

Now if Miller had said nothing at all and I just “made it up”, I WOULD be as bad as they are.

          • Carol says:

Missing another point about the child pornography accusation…if Lisa Murkowski had anything to do with it, the evidence would have been found on government computers already. Those computers log everything coming and going, and rules prohibit sending mail to private accounts. So the only way to get child porn onto a computer without being flagged by government computers would be private/private computer connections, and those can be tracked as well.

Also, if Miller was worried about a plant, he knows the first thing he should do is report it to IT Security so that they can contact Federal Marshals and Federal cyber security. It is evidence essential to an investigation. And he would not have needed to do any deleting of his password, his account would have been locked and a new one issued for him, that is if he wasn’t issued an entirely new computer because the previous one was taken away for investigation. So something is fishy, and it isn’t Alaska salmon.

          • slipstream says:

I can explain that body in the back yard!

    • Bretta says:

Interesting thing about psychology and theater – and probably includes politics –

all the props on the stage, all the words, lines, idioms, have a meaning and a reference.

That is, there is never a “phone on the stage if it’s not going to ring.”

JoeMiller brought out the child predator issue – I suspect he knows that phone is about to ring.

  24. Martha says:

If Miller wins this…………..I think I’ll PUKE!

Are Alaskans smart enough to realize at this late stage of the game, that it is MORE important to STOP Miller than it is to try to elect Murkowski?

Palin is betting against Alaskans AGAIN.

Her tirade against CBS and all the Corrupt B.astards shenanigans took the focus off of the very corruptness of Miller!!

Please Alaska, do NOT allow Palin to grind your state further into the ground by voting for Murkowski.

A vote for Murkowski is a vote for Miller/Palin…………..it is that simple AND absolutely true!

  25. SME131 says:

I am absolutely amazed that anyone would vote for Miller considering how truly unstable he is. More so knowing Palin endorses him and knowing he will bring to the table all the same crazy stuff she did. We need to pray McAdams gets elected but be prepared to launch a recall if Miller gets in. We cannot allow anyone that unstable to represent our state.

    • 1smartcanerican says:

I have to agree with you on the unstable demeanor of Miller. According to IM/Alaska Dispatch, Miller appears to be totally paranoid and is saying that he did not load the child pornography on his district computer – not that any has been found yet, but if it should, it was planted by the Murkowski campaign!

This really worries me. It could be the reason he was mustered out of the service and why his kids are home-schooled. His wife looks terrified of him and with kids hidden at home, no one can see if there are issues there.

He sounds like a scary, sick man and if he gets elected, Alaska will really have a huge problem to face.

Save yourself all some pain and vote in McAdams. He is a good, true, honorable person – personality traits missing from most Alaskan politicians for a long time.

Good luck tomorrow Alaskans! I will be cheering McAdams on, along with my own Patty Murray.

    • Martha says:

It is about voting for Murkowski now.

How many of her votes will be discounted??

Plenty enough to allow Miller to win.

A vote for Murkowski is a vote for Miller.

    • Elstun Lauesen says:

Jason Cline, Miller supporter, is correct when he states that Miller will never go below 35, Palin’s core number. So given the universe of 65%, how could Murkowski EVER assume that she had a shot when she had to share that universe with a candidate who is on the ballot?

    • Moose Pucky says:

Many Republicans see Miller as a vote against the corporate establishment vote that Lisa has represented. I think I understand that point of view.

McAdams has the solutions. His poll numbers are always better each time they are reported.

Both Miller and Murky are tanking.

      Vote your values. Vote McAdams.

  26. Cammie says:

And if this poll is right, you really have to eliminate 10% off Lisa’s portion to account for disqualified write-in ballots. So less than one day before Election Day, this is where it’s at: 37% Miller, 30% McAdams, 20% Murkowski.

    • Elstun Lauesen says:

@Cammie: Essentially, you are right. The net effect, nevertheless, is denial of votes for McAdams. But you are right.

    • Moose Pucky says:

No way does Miller have the support of 37% of Alaskans. No way. It’s not going to happen.

Miller and Murky are tanking. McAdams numbers are steadily up. Just keep working. We can do this.

  27. Moose Pucky says:

Murkowski is not dropping out. Miller is not dropping out. Alaskans, only, are going to decide this race.

This poll is so within the margin of error. If Obama/Biden could get 38% of the vote in Alaska in 2008, with McCain/Palin on the ballot, there is no reason Scott McAdams isn’t going to pull over 40% in a three-way race.

Here’s a nice little blog on letters to the editor in this week’s Juneau Empire that shows Scott has already won the hearts and minds and votes of Alaskans.

Asking for Republican help when we can and must do this ourselves is pathetic.

    • Elstun Lauesen says:

…this is a plea for DEMOCRATS and MODERATE U’s & N’s to vote McAdams and NOT write in Lisa, if that is what they are considering.

    • Martha says:

Asking for Murkowski supporters to vote McAdams in order to prevent Miller from winning is what you MUST do, if you want McAdams to succeed.

Miller would be worse for Alaska as a senator, than Palin was a governor AND he WON’T quit, he will have ~~~~~~~~~~~~~6~~~~~~~~~long~~~~~~~~~~~~years.

      Pride goeth before a fall.

You need to suck it up and take help from whomever is willing to give it to you AND be grateful when they do.

      • Elstun Lauesen says:

@Martha: “Pride Goeth Before The Fall” Let’s make Lisa’s pride HER fall not ours!

      • Too Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs says:

But of course, Joe Miller won’t quit his Senate seat if elected. It’s quite obvious that he needs the paycheck.

  28. Nick Danger says:

Went to the McAdams sign waving on Friday. Scott showed up to shake hands, rather nice of him–and no thugs to guard him! Amazing.
