Open Thread – Lucky Moose?

Brian the Moose got to hang out at the Pai Gow table with Brad Friedman of BradBlog.com and Mike Rogers of BlogActive.com this evening.  It was decided after many hands that Brian is luck neutral, as he didn’t seem to sway things one way or the other. He’s always been lucky for me, though!

    Good link
    Great last line
“Does a true commander in chief turn tail when “sick puppies” bark?”

Why not? Real momma grizzes protect their cubs by running away. If they are faced with a serious preditor they run to save themselves and the cubs better keep up. If they don’t they die or are left abandoned.

On second though may Mommy Grizzley is a good character desctiption of St. Sarah the Quitter.

    Dear Beloved Mudpups,

I joined an online dating site a couple of years ago. I seldom visit it anymore, and now I remember why. A total stranger just wrote the following to me:
    ___

“YOU’VE GOT THAT SARAH PALIN LOOK WITH BLUE EYES

In that first picture anyway .. ( that DEFFINATELY a good thing)
    Wanna talk ??
    What do you think ??
    Write back

    Ralph”

    ____

Now, I’m sure he meant it as a compliment, but I’m equally sure that, had we been face to face when he said it, the incredulous look of shock on my face, followed quickly by disgust and indignant storming from the room, would have been a clear indication of my feelings on the subject. (Actually, had he read my profile, I’m reasonably certain any man with half a brain would NOT have thought to compare me with her on ANY level, but I digress….)

I don’t – repeat: DO NOT – look remotely like her (NYCpups, back me up on this!) Yes, I’m female, and yes, I wear glasses, and yes, I’m brunette, and even yes, I DID play flute in junior high (and also badly, too!)

    But otherwise… nuh-uh.

It leaves me speechless. Just for fun, please tell me: how would YOU respond to this email?

    Be creative!

    • aussiegal77 says:

      Dear Ralph,

I can tell by the way you’re yellin’, spellin’ and grammar-tisin’ that you’re a true believer! I hate to refudiate you but I have to politely decline your charming offer to talk.

You see, I really dislike Sarah Palin. She is offensive on every level imaginable. Now that you have likened me to Sarah Palin, I am afraid I would be much tempted to kick you in the moose nuggets if we were ever to meet in person. While that would be immensely enjoyable for me, I doubt you’d get much of a kick out of it. Get it?! “Kick” out of it?! Hahaha! Zing!

      Anyhoo.

      Regards,
      MonaLisa

First, understand I just got home from a couple days of testing in the hospitalwithawfulfood, so this might be a bit strange.

      Ralph,

Growing up in the wilds of my neighborhood, watching Rill Americans bring home the bacon because the only moose is chocolate pudding all Frenchified, I thought daily of our brave soldiers fighting for our freedom somewhere or other. I thought of all the Rill Americans here in the Heartland with me and knew that we were chosen for a purpose which was to be revealed to me when I grew up so I played a lot of basketball to strengthen me up and was also too in the Band. Oh wait. Can I call you Ralph? That wasn’t me! Ha! Ha! Just foolin’ with ya. Here’s the dill, Ralph. Go away. I am not pleased, and if you contact me again, I will turn all grizzlified, and shove a bump-it up your nose.

OTOH, I can imitate her screechy whine way better than Tina Fey, who only gets the Fargo part of the accent right. And my sister wears glasses and wears her hair in a beehive! However, she’s got a doctorate; something Palin will never have (unless one of those far-right so-called universities gives her an honorary doctorate, in which case Faux News would probably start calling her Dr. Governor).

Tell Ralph you’re just not into her, and therefore, him also too!

Nothing left but nekkid peach pits scattered around the tree!!! Might have had some help from the raccoons and possums. Hope they got tummy-aches! (Well, not really…just wish I’d picked a few sooner.)

Some people need to go to prison for a long, long time.

  14. BuffaloGal says:

This may have been mentioned before but I just made the connection for the first time:

Ok , we know that $P first used “refudiate” on Hannity’s show, July 12th, in response to the NAACP’s resolution that was passed earlier that day, condemning racism in the Tea Party. Well, the resolution called for the TP to “repudiate” the racist elements. I’m not sure if Ben Jealous also used the word in his speech but it is used in many of the news releases. We know she read it or had it summarized to her by RAM so she either saw or heard the word that day. Then she finds out that Ben Jealous called her out by name and slams her in his speech that afternoon. I’m sure that riled her to no end so later, on Hannity, she took that big powerful word of theirs and used it to hit back. Unfortunately, she only had a passing idea of how to use it in context and, she had the word wrong. But that didn’t stop her from actually putting emphasis on the word when she spit it out. She was going to make a point dammit.

So now it makes more sense to me why she chose to use that word. It had been bugging me because it just seemed so odd for her to just pull it out of the air. But what I still don’t get is why she chose to use it again. Did no one correct her the first time ? Weird.

    • A fan from CA says:

I doubt that when riled anyone can correct her. It’s part of the psychosis of Sowah.

    • leenie17 says:

You may have something here, but I’d like to correct one glaring error you made in your post.

“it just seemed so odd for her to just pull it out of the air”

The air is NOT where she pulls words out of!

    • twain12 says:

      yes she does 😀 !!!

good ratings doesn’t equal quality TV…for example Jerry Springer

This latest rant from Rush might make your head explode but it’s important to know what he spews since his followers do and usually agree with him.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0710/40147.html

I suggest a petition drive to have his picture included in the dictionary next to the word “evil”. I’m sure Sarah’s could appear next to a number of entries–demagogue comes to mind.

    • A fan from CA says:

Let them spew the racist cr*p. It will lose them even more votes in November. As we have seen over the course of the week the vast majority of Americans find this stuff repugnant.

Now I just hope that it is pointed out how this evil attitude toward black Americans is also behind the fear being drummed up against Hispanic Americans.

The more the baggers talk about the “evil” of the “others” the more they expose themselves as fearful cowards who are unable to deal with issues as adults.

I have a friend who is married to a Rush listener, and ever since Obama has come upon the scene he has started to question the motives of Rush. He is totally turned off by the racist stuff and it has finally made him questions the rest of what is spewed by right wing radio.

    • leenie17 says:

Yeah, it’s just a darn shame that ONE person on Fox wimped out and decided not to lie and defame an innocent woman because of their hatred for our President. Such a shame that he chose to not show an edited snip of a video, taken out of context by an unknown source, and destroy a woman’s life and career. Such a wussie! But only Rush the All Knowing knows the real truth!

“Limbaugh declared. “There’s no racism in the tea party. They don’t have racist signs.” ”

Come on, people, those signs of the President with a bone in his nose…NOT racist! They’re just celebrating his African heritage!

The signs that include the ‘n’ word…not even close to being racist! They’re just remembering the hard work of the Civil Rights leaders!

The signs that say he should go back to Kenya…not racist at all! They’re just suggestions for a lovely summer vacation!

And those signs that just MAY have been offensive to some people? Clearly, all those hundreds of signs were plants by an organization that didn’t even exist until AFTER the TP rallies where those signs were displayed.

      Just ask Rush…he’ll tell ya!

(I’m not a violent person, but I can’t remember a time when I’ve wanted sooo badly to smack someone upside the head. Of course, the downside is that I’d have to actually touch him…eeewwww!)

  16. Diane says:

Alas poor Levi, I refudiate him well!

Lucky Brian, He travels more then I do!

Does twitter(I don’t use it) have spell check? The spell check on my lap top does not like the word refudiate. One of the words given instead is refuter. Does that mean palin is a serial refuter?

    • OMG says:

Possibly because we know that she’s something…we just can’t figure out what yet (although I have a few choice descriptors I could use).

Her current lashing out against building a community center in NY does remind me of something…hmmm it happened more than half a century ago in a place far away to a different group of people by a far-right-wing government….

    • jojobo1 says:

Now I’ll bet someone’s gonna say that the GOP doesn’t own the Constitution either.

  18. Wolf Pack says:

    Kate + 8 + Sow-ah & papa bear?

That’s right… unbelievable. Kate & her children are in AK, They will be schooled by Chuck Heath and Kate will visit with Sow-ah. TLC will be broadcast this on their Kate +8 reality show.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/tvblog/2010/07/kate-plus-8-plus-sarah.html?hpid=artslot

The silver lining is that I never watched and never will watch TLC.

    • Blue Eyes says:

I will admit that I did watch Jon and Kate plus 8 during their first two seasons. It was okay then, but then they started getting stuff and going places. When the show first started Kate had brown hair, and not the haircut and the nails and the clothes she has now. I stopped watching it because Kate was always harping on Jon about something. Plus Jon seemed more hands on with the kids then Kate ever was. Now all I hear from Kate is poor me I’m the victim, which is the same from Palin. If you put the two of them together I would run far far away from that show. Plus the shows on TLC have really gone downhill for the last couple of years. The show with Kate and Sarah is only for ratings.

“Tribal Law Legislation Takes Big Step
    Thu, July 22, 2010
Posted in Alaska News, Top Stories | 0 Comments
Libby Casey, APRN – Washington DC

A new law aimed at improving justice and safety for Alaska Natives and Native Americans is awaiting President Obama’s signature. The Tribal Law and Order Act won bi-partisan support, and passed the US House on Wednesday.

The President says he will sign it, and in a written statement called it “an important step” to help the federal government better address public safety challenges confronting tribal communities.
It mostly relates to Reservation lands and Indian Country outside Alaska, but Senator Lisa Murkowski, who sits on the Indian Affairs Committee, says the bill also helps Alaska.
It allows the state and tribal non-profits that employ VPSO’s, or Village Public Safety Officers, to apply for federal grants. Currently the VPSO jobs are only funded through state or congressional earmarks. It also lets the VPSOs train at the Indian Policy Academy in New Mexico.

Murkowski says one of the big problems with prosecuting serious sexual assault crimes, both in Alaska and on reservations, is the inability to collect and process forensic evidence. The bill calls for the research wing of Congress to evaluate the Indian Health Service facilities, and how evidence is dealt with. Murkowski says that’s a basic first step toward protecting women.

But one item that would have been a big help to Alaska tribes was stripped out of the bill. It would have called for a $50 million pilot project to allow Alaska tribes to create cooperative partnerships with the state and feds. The project would have enhanced the authority of tribal courts to locally address sexual assault, domestic violence and drug and alcohol related crimes. Murkowski says she’ll look for other ways to advance the demonstration project.

The director of the State of Alaska’s Washington DC office, John Katz, says it was important to the state that Alaska tribes were not given increased criminal jurisdiction as a bi-product. Most of Alaska’s tribes are not considered part of “Indian Country,” and so don’t have the same jurisdictional oversight. Katz says the state got on board once that was acknowledged in the bill.”””

    • Alaska Pi says:

There is some to be hopeful here and a lot to be dissatisfied with…
This state is so worried about the possible legal ramifications of “Indian Country” law that it stifles any action which it deems brings the subject up. This is another of the ways the state consistently lets it’s Native citizens down…
That being said, I AM happy to see the provisions which passed heading for the President’s signature… For Alaskan Natives and all Native Americans.

  20. Pinwheel says:

Its a good thing that you have Brian with you. I’m watching late nite MSNBC and I have to say “Too many old white men” make the decisions for this country. This is an incomplete statement. Too many “old men” make the decisions. The US Senate is full of them. We forget about the House because we only have one (who represents only those who voted for him!).

But look at the US House of Representatives. I have lived in Alaska for 19 years. It is time for a roll over of representation. During this time of statehood development, thanx to strong and effective congressional voices, Alaskans have lots of stuff. Alaskans need to remember that we have this not because of the personalities of our politicians, although their personalities are very strong, but because of the “Compact” made. This really is not completely pork. We deserve lots of federal money for transportation projects because Alaska pays a huge amount of federal gas tax. Every commercial fishing boat, every tender that helps, every recreational boat, every truck, SUV, every van or bus that transports children to athletic events, every motor vehicle in our State that purchases gasoline is investing in projects in Alaska. This is not “pork”. This is our fair share.

I think my original point is that it’s old men making decisions still. I’m not that old, although I am proud to have worked for some of them. I learned lots.

Knowing ones neighborhood is good. That’s community organizing. Meet neighbors. Register voters. Make sure each one who wants gets to the polls does. Find the community resources that could help neighbors. It’s not about buying an election, it’s earning the privelege to represent you.

Yes, I know, I’m an idealist!! And I know it works.

    nem

    • heidi1 says:

I like your thoughts a lot, pinwheel. But please answer me this: with all of the problems in Alaska as far as who gets elected, why isn’t the voter turnout higher? I live in California, so maybe I just don’t ‘get it’. I think I read somewhere that $arah got elected by about 177,000 votes. Why, that’s nothing! Look at the havoc she’s wreaked on our country. (And I do so totally blame John McCain, by the way.) I, being in the “lower 48”, can’t even imagine the voter apathy in AK that allows the continual election of corrupt politicians/Wasilla housewives/mayors who collect on “life insurance policies”. We are FURIOUS that no one in Wasilla will speak up about Palin’s skeletons in the closet. My gawd, her entire political bona fides rest on a false projection that she birthed a Down Syndrome child – an utter falsehood. Rant over.

      • Alaska Pi says:

        http://www.elections.alaska.gov/results/06GENR/data/results.htm
Whatzername received 114697 votes for governor- all other candidates combined received 122625 so she did not get into office on a landslide…not even a mudslide.

We have fewer than 700K people in the whole state so your 31 million citizens in Calif thing WOULD likely make it harder to understand the numbers here without some context.

As a single Alaskan, not presuming to speak for any group, I think you are dead wrong about what her entire political bona fides rest on.
She and her followers here built up the image of the fresh face, outsider, maverick and that is what got her into state office. She and the McCain campaign further built that up in the national election. Since then she has been maneuvering to be even more of an outsider,lil-guys-are-not-gonna-take-it-anymore voice. THAT is where her power lies- she harnesses distrust and unhappiness and slaps it into a lathered ride…
Also , as a single Alaskan voice, I am growing concerned that the flap over that poor little kid is counterproductive in that it smacks of personal vendetta – which gives whatzername more ammo with those who are inclined to buy HER notion of feminism… and whether we like it or not, they are many.

        • lilybart says:

It is not a personal vendetta. Having a DS kid solidified her support from Dobson et al that got her the nomination. After “maverick” her calling card is Super Mom and Saint Sarah of Choosing Life.

If we were investigating the affair with Brad Hanson or Track’s father, then it might seem like a personal vendetta (or boob-gate!) but this baby IS her whole campaign.

And right now, until she actually declares she is running, no media outlet is going to focus on the lies she tells regarding her record. And because she won’t answer questions, there is no way to debate policy or issues.

She is using the whole family all the time. Every time she whines she includes how the family is hurt, how we are trying to destroy her family, yada yada….like I have said before, my Gov in NY is an idiot, but I know nothing about his family or if he even HAS any kids!

          • lilybart says:

To clarify, we have posted about Brad Hanson and Track’s resemblance to the Menard men, but no one is going after any more of these stories for now.

          • Alaska Pi says:

I am familiar with the various arguments and even have some sympathy for one espoused by an aquaintance who is a children’s advocate but I respectfully disagree.
While I understand the desire for a take-down moment I think this line of inquiry plays into whatzername’s mama bear meme… and should it turn out she is not the babe’s mother it is not likely to change the beliefs of her core group who will easily accept that mama bears would do anything to protect their cubs… As sickening as that sounds, that is the likely outcome…
And likely, also too, to garner sympathy from some who are not attracted to her politics. I worry more about the latter than anything else.
We don’t need to add , by default, any more polish to her phony halo…
Yes, she has used her children over and over but I’m not buying the idea her children should be used against her…
I don’t subsribe to the idea that that all- is -fair thingy.

        • Forty Watt says:

          Well said, Alaska Pi.

          • lilybart says:

But it is not her children, but a LIE about one child. The child that got her national attention, so I also respectfully disagree again! It is not the child, it is the LIE and how she then treats him like a hood ornament, literally she leads with him.

      • Wallflower says:

Alaska’s population is about 600,000, which explains why the numbers look low to those of us in zany California.

      • Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

heidi1 – the theme at MF since the beginning was to leave out speculation on this babygate deal, at AKM’s gentle but repeated requests. I have honored that request for a very long time, as should we all who are here to enjoy interaction, great information, and civility by following the blog guidelines.

This is freely discussed as I’m sure you know at IM and PG, along with the other questions and speculations surrounding family members other than the little guy. It’s not about what we believe, suspect or ignore here at MF, it is out of courtesy to the blog author. You will also find, if you have not already, that this is an issue taken up by Lower 49ers and not many Alaskans are on board with this. That’s just the way it is.

Also, the broad generalizations about Alaska and who is voting for who is just that – broad speculation and you would need to know a lot more about the geography and demography of the state to put that all into perspective. The MSM media does this speculation and announcements couched as “news” all the time, globally, and it’s grown very very old since I know how inaccurate, lazy and sensational the information usually is. With these practices, the MSM isn’t doing anyone favors, and helps to further divide the country by regionalizing this BS information (or lack thereof).

        • Zyxomma says:

Our intrepid and amazing AKM has told us *she* is not going to write about/engage in speculation about Babygate. However, I’ve never seen her tell *us* not to do so. If I missed something, I apologize. If I read that Jeanne wants *us* to refrain from all such speculation on her blog (and it is her blog, we’re all just her guests and owe her the respect to act like good guests), I will, of course, oblige her. I love being her guest, after all.

However, as others have mentioned, Sowah’s cred with the so-called right-to-life crowd is the seeming fraud that she knew she was carrying a DS child (IMO, in someone else’s womb) and didn’t abort him. I still want to know why “right to life” doesn’t include anything done for the child carried to term once he or she is actually born — you know, little things like education, health care, etc.

$P had enough provable, factually accurate, stark, in-your-face, words, deeds, and actions –in print and on unedited video– to last a life time. It’s what she does — she gets in front of a mic, a camera, a FB page, and/or a Blackberry and spews her unique brand of stupid. ALL of it is verifyable and *none* of it is going away.

IMHO, ‘pushing’ speculations, pure speculations, about $P, is totally counterproductive. DON’T DO IT! [sorry, I *had* to yell that]

The more innuendo, gossip, and speculation about the idiot $P that’s shared with others, the *less* any of them are apt to *listen* to the provable, factually accurate, stark, in-your-face *truth* about her. Use her source-undeniable lies to show her to be the idiot she is, *not* gossipy speculation. Please! beth.

Good Morning pups. Birds, dogs and cats woke me up early this morning. Just in time to have to listen to Ann Coulter spew her crap on CBS news regarding race and the firing of the USDA worker. Now I have to go back to bed and start over so the beginning of my day off doesn’t start off awful.

I hope Brian is behaving himself around all those temptations there in Vegas. We have heat advisories today so I need to get at it before it gets to hot. Have a great day!

Thought of you, AKM, as I watched The Ed Show last night. Will you get to see him? I think he would look great sharing a picture with Brian!

AKM – Shannon liked these spoofy re-writes the other day (re $arah comparing herself to The Bard):

“It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Coming this fall on the Discovery Network”.

“Fire burn and cauldron bubble – bendy straws, or my fee is double”.

“Refudiate or not to refudiate…. What was the question?”

Ha ha…old news, but still funny. Hope you ladies have a blast, and meet all your favorite people.

Hope you’re having a good time in Vegas. Check out Nine Fine Irishmen at the NY NY. My brother’s the bass player 🙂 Best show in town. The band, Sin e Ri Ra, might like Brian –

Brian’s always been a beloved good luck fella for all mudflatters, and he’s well-traveled, also, (too). How did you get away with a camera inside a casino?? Yikes. Any word on if Al Franken will be there? BTW, Sow-ah called the MSM “sick puppies” today, from her remote location on America’s largest island. And she and Kate + 8 are going camping together with Chuckie for some “hands-on” nature experiences! And that’s all the gossip that’s not fit to print. Have fun there!

As far as the camping show, I wonder just what it is we are to learn from “The Learning Channel”?
