Open Thread – Rallies to Restore Sanity

Time to rally! I will be headed out tomorrow at the crack of dawn for a whirlwind trip to D.C. to attend the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear with John Stewart and Steven Colbert, and thousands of their closest friends. I calculated that I’ll be in the air about as long as I’ll be on the ground… BUT, I also calculated that I will remember the rally and the fun long after I forget the heinous travel from Anchorage to D.C. and back, so it will all work out well in the end!

It will be especially nice, since tonight I attended an actual Rally to Restore Fear… at least that’s what it felt like. I got to hear about the “dark forces” coming to get us, and about how if we don’t save the country from Democrats this election cycle, it could be… “too late.”

Yes, the little fearfest was brought to you by Joe Miller and Sarah Palin. I guess they made up now that Miller came out with a forceful statement that of COURSE Sarah Palin is qualified to be President. The attendance, which is in deep dispute on Twitter right now, seemed to me to be about 400 or 450 attendees. A chunk were people from out of town who walked over from their downtown hotels to do a little “Palin gawking.” And there was a lot of the lamestream media present to witness the spectacle. But to put everyone’s questioning minds to rest, here is a picture from the event.

Palin had finished a few minutes before, but Joe Miller was still on the stage and the event itself was not over for about another 10 minutes.

Spouse says I’m being too generous with my estimate, and he may be right. Either way, they couldn’t have been pleased.

But back to sanity. Those of you not going to D.C. can enjoy the rally in Anchorage or Wasilla. If your out of the area, check to see if you’re having a local rally and do send pictures to akmuckraker(at)yahoo(dot)com. I’ll use them in open threads so you can enjoy what the other sane folks are up to across the country.

ANNOUNCING THE ANCHORAGE RALLY TO RESTORE SANITY
Saturday, October 30, 2010 @UAA Cuddy Quad. 1-2pm. Open to the public.

This Saturday, Anchorage residents will be calling for a return to civil discourse. We will show up to serve as a reminder that when all you do is scream at each other, nothing gets done. And we live in times where we kind of need a lot to get done. And television ads don’t count.

Students, teachers, families, friends, Alaskans, and hopefully you will show up to say: “Hey, we might disagree on some topics, but I’m pretty sure you’re not a Nazi.”

The Anchorage Rally to Restore Sanity will take place this Saturday, from 1-2pm, at the University of Alaska Anchorage Cuddy Quad, on the west end of campus. Parking is free, and additional information is available at www.takeitdownanotch4ak.blogspot.com.

Bring signs! Bring friends! Everyone is welcome, because that’s kind of how this country is supposed to work.

THE WASILLA RALLY TO RESTORE SANITY!

October 30th 8am-12pm
Wasilla Middle School
We will broadcast the event live from D.C.
With Special Guests Bare Roots
Other guests to be announced soon.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m.
Free and open to the public

If you play your cards right, you can attend both and have a whole day jam packed with sanity!

Too bad we couldn’t just dump this whole civilization thingie…

“Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men,
we didn’t have any kind of prison. Because of this, we had no delinquents.
Without a prison, there can be no delinquents.
We had no locks nor keys and therefore among us there were no thieves.
When someone was so poor that he couldn’t afford a horse, a tent or a blanket,
he would, in that case, receive it all as a gift.
We were too uncivilized to give great importance to private property.
We didn’t know any kind of money and consequently, the value of a human being
was not determined by his wealth.
We had no written laws laid down, no lawyers, no politicians,
therefore we were not able to cheat and swindle one another.
We were really in bad shape before the white men arrived and I don’t know
how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things
that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society.”

SP has another FaceBook post – defending his right to free speech while LizaMurky “hired guns” threatened the station. Going to clip a few interesting sentences from her post (my comments)

    >It is an interference with Dan Fagan’s constitutional right to free speech. (but not broadcase on the AIR)
    >Fagan used satire to mock Murkowski’s write-in efforts and encouraged Alaskans to run as write-in candidates. That is not illegal. (Satire again? Like Rush-bo using the N or R words? )
    >This was a right Joe Miller, as a decorated combat veteran – a tank commander tested in battle, was willing to die to defend. (You mean Joe who’s “goons” handcuffed & detained a local journalist? That Joe?)
    >He was especially insulting to my son, who left for a war zone to defend Fagan’s right to attack our family. (I wonder if Track cringes when Momma Grizz drags out his “military service” )

Enjoy & Good luck all at the Rally!!!
    ((Am still so jealous))

  3. LibertyLover says:

Ok. Didn’t see the message board until just now and my family is meeting up with other people for the rally. But if I see you mud pups I will certainly say hi! Just know that a fellow mud pup is also in the midst.

  4. jeanne olson says:

a couple of us are here in d.c. after flying in from fairbanks yesterday. I would guess that at least 1/4 of the plane passengers from seattle were heading to the rally. One lady even had here rally t-shirt on! The lady next to me, and the family of 3 across from me, plus a guy with a straw hat from sitka was in the aisle behind me. The sitka guy said 3 others from sitka were flying down, too.
The weather here will be cool tomorrow but not by alaska standards. The autumn colors are nice. We have our “signs” made for tomorrow and plan to take the metro in by 9:30 tomorrow. We’re staying with a peace activist in falls church.
it’ll be good to hang out with like-minded “sane?” folks. Hopefully, it’s going to show that we can dialogue and engage in conversation and discussion even if we disagree. We’ll also try to take photos.

    Hey,
Have a post up on my blog about last Tuesday night.

  6. TX SMR says:

News says that Dan Fagan — the d—-a-s who encouraged the write-in flood — was kicked to the curb today. Whether it’s temporary or permanent, I don’t know.

Have fun all of you ralliers. Now I wish I’d have said wth and just gone. My husband asked and I said no, too much to do with school & the kids & every other little thing. I just should have done it. Oh well, will live vicariously, as I so often seem to do these days…………………..

    • Millie says:

Shannyn also suggested it on her radio show! They announced on the news tonight that Fagan was pulled from his radio show and is blaming Murkowski for it. The newscast also brought out that Shannyn had recommended people to do the same thing on her show.

This election process is going to be a mess. I so hope that McAdams just sweeps it, but Channel 11 put out a poll tonight (Dittman – who is always pro Republican) showing Murkowski in the lead by quite abit and Parnell also leading.

Get out and vote folks! Mine went out in the mail afew days ago – pro McAdams and Berkowitz.

      • TX SMR says:

My husband read something on ADN about it — the problem w/dan, I guess, was that he was offering prizes to people who did it? Something like that.

I don’t listen to Shannyn, but am disappointed if she suggested something similar. I’m operating under the assumption that she didn’t offer prizes…

  7. leenie17 says:

I can’t even begin to imagine the positive energy that will be swirling around the Mall tomorrow! I’m just a tiny bit jealous of everyone who is going, but thrilled that there will be such a distinguished and spirited group of Mudpups representing us all.

Have a super time, stay safe, soak up the sanity, and spread some good karma for me! 🙂

(Meanwhile, I’ll be in a codeine-induced stupor for the weekend…ahhh, the joys of working with germ-laden 5,6, and 7-year olds!)

  8. BeeJay says:

Best wishes to all who are going to the rally tomorrow, especially to Irish Girl! May the weather be fair, and the talk long and joyous, and the manners be impeccable.

Show them we’re not going to take any more of the Toilet Paper people.

  9. BJA says:

I know it takes about a million hours to get from Anchorage to Washington, D.C. So, I’ve got a question about that:

Joe Miller has 8 kids, right? And, he’s trying to get a job that will demand that he spend a good deal of time in Washington D.C. — or on a plane — while he leaves his wife at home alone with 8 kids? I’m having a hard time picturing how that would correspond to family values.

Now maybe Mrs. G.I. Joe wants him gone so there won’t be 9 kids next year. But still, most people who are interested in family planning don’t consider a run for Senate as one of the birth control options.

  10. aussiegal77 says:

To all of you going to DC – have lots of fun and know that I am with you in spirit!!!

I will be biting my nails from now till Tues (Wednesday morning?) and hope against hope that the Dems don’t lose the House or the Senate!! And that Alaska goes BLUE BLUE BLUE!

  11. Moose Pucky says:

DSCC has just kicked in another $165,000 for McAdams airtime in Alaska.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/44390.html

Mudpups approaching the beltway must have put the fear of God in them! 🙂

A vote for McAdams is a vote for McAdams.

  12. Writing from Alaska says:

Have a wonderful time all! Hope to catch up with someone at one of our local events. Love DC and wish I could be there, too.

  13. LoveMyDogs says:

Oh how I wish I could go to this rally. I could really use some of the sanity. Everyone going have a GREAT time and don’t forget to pick up after yourselves. I am sure that there will be an absolute rainbow of people of all different colors, ages and creeds.

I do not have cable, nor fast internet, so I am waiting anxiously for boots on the ground reports. If nothing else, it sounds as if there will be good music to listen to. Tell us all about the signs that you see as well.

Mamma Bubbles, take good care of Irishgirl and yourself. All other mudpups who are attending, I hope that all of you find each other in what sounds like it may be a massive crowd.

$P has gone off her meds again and is busy trying to stir things up on Twitter (see IM). WHAT AN IDIOT!

    • aussiegal77 says:

Palin tweets something dumb in the President’s direction, missing entirely the irony in the State Dept “birthday wishes” to Iran’s president. Meanwhile – the adults in charge in the Obama Admin foil a possible terrorist plot. Thanks heavens Palin and McCain LOST in 2008.

    • bubbles says:

Mamma Bubbles, take good care of Irishgirl and yourself.

you know i will sweetie. i am carrying you in my heart…..someday we will meet my dear. you’ll see. one day.

  14. Moose Pucky says:

Lisa’s ad in the local paper today made me roar with laughter.

    The headline:
Alaska’s Firefighters are Writing-In Lisa Murkowski

    The picture:
Someone in a firefighter outfit with his/her palm extended.

    In the palm is written:
    Lisa Murkowski

The text says “write it in!” with a big arrow pointing to the palm of the hand with the name written in.

How’s that for respecting your constiuency!

Wonder how many fire fighters this ad will tick off??

    • benlomond2 says:

won’t that make Sarah mad ??? I thought she patented the ” write it on my hand” trick ….. 🙂

  15. LibertyLover says:

I am waiting in the Phoenix airport to board a plane to dc to attend the rally. I am excited and am dragging my spouse and kids. Should be an interesting weekend.

  17. bubbles says:

thanks everyone for the good mojo directed toward Irishgirl. after a difficult night she has arisen from the dead and is eating and drinking. she has been watching movies and sipping tea.
i am taking her out for Dominican chicken soup in a bit so she gets some fresh air. i expect my patient will survive…..
i will be holding you all in my thoughts tomorrow and though you be far away you will still be walking alongside me and Irish and AKM and all the rest. love you….Bubbles

  18. Firecracker says:

For anyone in Juneau tonight the Evening at Egan lecture will focus on Sarah Palin and is being presented by the political science professor of UAS, Clive Thomas. I am sure that it will be both humorous and informative. The lectures are in the Egan Lecture Hall at 7 PM (I also think they are broadcasted on the education channel, channel 11 maybe). The title of the the lecture is The Sarah Palin Phenomenon: An Alaska, National, and International Perspective. Dr. Thomas has given this lecture at a number of universities around the country. I am hoping it enlightens me because I am utterly confounded by the Sarah Palin Phenomenon.

  19. MonaLisa (inCT) says:

REALLY didn’t need that picture of him burned into my retina.

Does eye-bleach come in industrial strength?

  20. OMG says:

As Sarah Palin stands by her man Beck, so do others:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/29/violent-beck-rhetoric/

  21. Moose Pucky says:

Time also reported they upped the venue to allow for 65,000, rather than the original 25,000. Facebook, they said, got 200,000 I WILL ATTEND clicks.

Should be very interesting. We at the Flats have the best of our best attending. Kudos! Have fun being the Calm Majority.

    • MonaLisa (inCT) says:

Facebook listed 224,663 as attending last night, but the number keeps fluctuating!

    • Bretta says:

I heard on this morning’s news that 300,000 are expected. I think it was GMA.

  22. Moose Pucky says:

Time Magazine reported that NPR has forbidden their reporters to attend this rally–lest they appear biased.

NPR should stop faking appearances and get down to some better reporting.

  23. Lower48 says:

Here is more “Truth” about Joe Miller.

Joe Miller “made mistakes” on his paperwork as a Magistrate about his Willow property…

    http://www.alaskadispatch.com/dispatches/politics/7313-millers-willow-hideaway-missing-on-judicial-disclosures-too

SNIP – “While a federal magistrate judge in Fairbanks in 2004, Alaska GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller failed to disclose his interest in a 40-acre hideaway and two-story house near Willow, IN VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW.

The land title registered in Palmer dates Miller’s interest in the property to August 1996. Whether the property in question is owned by Miller or held by a trust in the name of his children, the candidate has refused to say. BUT FEDERAL JUDGES ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT SUCH THINGS EITHER WAY.

The Financial Disclosure Report required by the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 instructs judges to report “Investments AND TRUSTS — income, value, transactions (INCLUDES THOSE OF THE SPOUSE AND DEPENDENT CHILDREN).” When Miller filed his disclosure report, he listed 1,000 acres of farmland he and his wife, Kathleen, had bought near Delta Junction with the help of a state agricultural loan; property they owned in Tok, where Miller had worked as a state magistrate; and various savings accounts. THE WILLOW PROPERTY, HOWEVER, WAS NOT REPORTED.

The federal disclosure requires judges to sign and certify that the information in the report is complete and accurate. It warns that a judge who “willfully falsifies or fails to file this report maybe subject to criminal and civil sanctions.” MISTAKES ON FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE FORMS ARE WHAT LED TO THE FEDERAL TRIAL AND CONVICTION OF THE LATE SEN. TED STEVENS.

    • Bretta says:

That was a great article – I’ve read it twice this week…
…but waiting, waiting, waiting for some news about it.
Does anyone know if the powers-that-be have examined the issue?

    • Millie says:

Sounds something like Toad and Sarah’s property – built up substantially and no report of it or tax increase. Then, when determined from the air that the property had increased substantially in value, they didn’t even go back and collect taxes on it. Like I said – I so hope they vet and get stuff out there nationally should Palin run for President. I wonder how much they are covering up right now as we speak…remember, McCain taught her the ropes!

  24. Baker's Dozen says:

Remember the Anchorage rally when Sarah was running for VP? I think it was “Alaska Women Against Palin.” How many people showed up for that? I mean, just for comparison to last night’s little extravaganza.

People mentioned they would have gotten more with beer and eats. I think clown make up and trap doors would have been even better.

    • MonaLisa (inCT) says:

Was that the one where 1500 showed up? (Humongously HUGE by Anchorage standards!)

  25. Zyxomma says:

I’m packing today. I’m so very eager to see everyone in DC!

    • beth says:

[[This comment made me chuckle, Zyxomma… I had visions of you ‘crossing over to the other side’ and Glocking or Colt45ing up for an expedition out amongst those gathering radical libruls who’re hell-bent on destroying the Constitution, tearing Amurica apart, and doing serious harm to ‘rill commun-since conservative Amuricans’. And to the troops also too. beth.]]

      • Zyxomma says:

That’s hilarious, beth. Of course, it never, ever crossed my mind that “packing” could be read as “packing heat.” What an image. I’ll be chuckling all day. I’m getting up at 4:30 to make my 7 a.m. train, and I hope it’s not delayed. If I occasionally break into giggles on the Acela, it’s beth’s doing!

        • slipstream says:

I’m going to be nicer to Zyx, now that I know she’s packing.

          • benlomond2 says:

Zyx believes in ALL the Amendments, not just the 2nd … chortle… but I’d steer clear of a woman packin’ , too !

To everyone going(gone ?) to the rally – Have a terrific day of camaraderie! May you all feel envelopped in the spirit of sanity this is meant to highlight, as well as in the powerful mental support vibes of those of us who couldn’t make it. We will, of course, be watching.

I sure hope that the rally will send a powerful message from real Americans who genuinely love their country.

  28. TX SMR says:

I posted this on one of the threads late last night. Posting it again because it is so funny & brilliant & a must-read take on the joe miller released info thing. I LOVED it. Naughty language warning.

    http://tbogg.firedoglake.com/2010/10/26/douchey-joe-miller-was-not-having-any-fun-in-anchorage-so-he-got-firedquit/

    Here’s a clean snippet:

Then when Joe came back in, he said he didn’t break any rules and, in fact, (and this part is totally true) he said everyone else broke the rules because they left their computers unlocked and unattended , so hah! he won. But no one would high five him and they all just kind of looked away because he is a sad pathetic man and they wished he would go away and he eventually did by quitting before they could fire him.

  29. NYCgirl says:

WooHoo, I’m going to the rally also, too. I’m taking a bus provided by Huffington Post. BFF & I will be on the bus longer than on the ground in DC. I don’t care.
We have to show support for our side. I’m sick of the Tea-baggers getting all the press.

Ok, everyone put out some good vibes for our Irishgirl . She flew in from Ireland and is staying with Bubbles. She is sick as a dog!!! We need her better for the trip first thing in the morning, so do what you do best, everyone. Send the best mojo you have! I’m bringing my Rescue Remedy for her. I hope it works!!

    GET BETTER IRISHGIRL!!!!

    • MonaLisa (inCT) says:

      Oh, NO! Get well, Irish!!

I have no idea yet how I’m getting there yet. Two choices left to me, at this point: according to the bus captain, there are 11 seats left on a dcrally bus leaving from New Haven, but the site says they’re all reserved (!?!) so I’m waiting for his call. It leaves at 3:07 am for a 9:00 am arrival at Union Station. I can also take the train, but I’d have to leave here at 8:14 tonight, for a 3:00 AM arrival in Union station (which is what I’ll probably do, since I like adventure!).

      But I WILL get there!!!!!

I know it’s petty but Stewart’s first name is spelled “Jon”. I’m envious of you AKM, I wish I could attend. Hubby and I chuckled last night about the fact that although we have 6 members of family living in VA and a close proximity to the rally the chances of any of them participating are about as great as me being a member of a sarah palin fan club….

  33. Saint Roscoe says:

There is now 115 write-in candidates for Senator, thanks to last minute prodding by your favorite wingnut radio host. Deadline was five days before the election so Thursday and the close of business. So even if folks ask for the write-in list they’ll be handed a three-four page booklet.

    http://www.elections.alaska.gov/ci_pg_cl_2010_genr.php#uss

And for any misspellings of Murkowski – they better not look close to “Lee Hamerski” or “Lisa M. Lackey” who are both registered to be write-in candidates. I wonder if they are legit or gimmicked names though.

  34. benlomond2 says:

was struck by 2 topics last nite – Chris Matthews talking about Sarah laying the groundwork positioning for running for Potus, and Racheal taking about the Dem’s and Repub game plans for after the election..
Sarah running for Potus by itself would be just fine – I’d enjoy a 2nd term of Obama.. except for the follow up reading on Sarah’s response to the plea for her to tone down the rhetoric and come out against the recent violence that has been occurring, and in particular for her to basically drop Beck and his inflamatory language. She has come out in favor of Beck and will continue to stand with him. This position, I think, will make her run for POTUS a time of wild accusations, inflamatory statements and acts of violence and intolerance. A return to the tone of the Bush years will occur- any questioning of statements by Sarah will be viewed as Anti- US, Anti Patriotism or Anti troop support, … and threats of violence against such people will become commonplace… the recent events in KY indicate how close we are to this sort of mindless behavior..

Racheal pointed out the Republican theme for the next two years… No Compromise with the Administration at all,,, and to make Obama a one term president… her premise that the Repubs will block anything that would help the country coming from the Dem side in order to get at Obama is frightening , that a political party would state that they would in effect trash the country in order to re-gain control rather than govern. We have seen this attitude from the Repubs already these past two years- specfic bills that were originally put forth by Repubs, and then voted against simply because Obama agreed and supported them are already documented. This year’s election results may have greater impact than previous because of this attitude, and the American public is going to suffer greatly because of it if the Repubs gain control of either side of Congress..

    • biglake says:

So many of these races are squeakers. Which means the people whose candidate didn’t win are going to be anxious.
The Mexican/American fence ain’t nothing compared to the fences we encourage between our neighbors.
And the more we keep feeding the squabbling, the easier it is for us to loose sight of the real problems that plaque us. The gap between the poor and the ultra rich being the most glaring.

      • Moose Pucky says:

So right. McAdams says he will work to balance the budget, but not on the backs of seniors, children, working folks, rural villagers.

  35. OMG says:

If you haven’t seen Murkowski’s new ad, it’s worth a look.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL73qsXeW2U

    • Valley_Independent says:

Thanks for sharing. That’s a very good ad.

Today’s edition of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman is so full of Joe Miller it should have to be declared as a campaign contribution from the paper, except for the full page ad the campaign paid for. It is easy to pick apart point by point if you have any sense of logic and access to the internet. Unfortunately, a good many here will take it at face value and continue to think he’s a great guy.

That’s just one more reason I’m really looking forward to the rally tomorrow.

    • Moose Pucky says:

I have received five Lisa Minelli ads in the mail this week. Nothing in there positive–low-ball attacks, pandering to women (she who voted against the two new sitting female Supreme Court justices), false endorsements, and misleading fake poll numbers. That along with her efforts to turn Alaska’s election process into total chaos and an attorney welfare system means Lisa should be nothing more than a write-off for Alaskans this year.

So good to McAdams surging ahead of Miller in the polls. Polls will never effectively reflect the outcome of a write-off.

  36. 10catsinMD says:

Interesting. Have a great trip to DC. I will be on the Mall tomorrow and at wonkette’s party tonight.
Where are the Mudflatters meeting? I am ashamed to say that I have not been able to navigate the forum.

Would love to get together with other Mudflatters.

If that doesn’t help, lemme know!

There’s an article in Rolling Stone that I am reading, it’s called “The Case for Obama.” It is great reading so far, and a must-read for wishy-washy people who say that Obama hasn’t done what he promised he’d do so they’re not voting blah blah blah. It quite rightly points out that there are some things that he’s done that are not okay (executing terror suspects), but also talks about his accomplishments — that his record is second to none in compare to other Dem presidents and could be considered monumental given the opposition that he’s faced while in office, even from his own party.

I don’t know if Rolling Stone has this article up on their website, if it does it could be emailed to friends! I’ve got the paper copy of the magazine.

    • OMG says:

Thanks, I’ll pick up a copy.

      • vyccan says:

Yes it is up on their site.
OMG, when you go to pick up your copy be aware that there are now 2 ‘current’ Rolling Stone articles out there on the Prez. The one mentioned here is in the October 28th edition. The October 14th edition also has a good article titled ‘Obama Fights Back’. Where I am located I have to wait almost 2 weeks before getting the ‘current’ mag, so I’m going to go back and read the online version after I finish at the mudflats today.

        • TX SMR says:

Thanks for that info — I’ll look for the issue w/the other story. Or look for it online or something.

Rolling Stone had a really outstanding story about the Gulf Oil spill a few months ago, I handed that issue around to others the story was so good.

Re: the spill, Frontline (?), PBS, has a special about the spill on right now. We DVR’d it last night. Can’t wait to watch it, though I’m sure that it will be very depressing. Depressing in terms of how evil BP is. We were both (spouse & I) employees of BP, so we knew a lot, but had no idea of the scope of some of their malfeasance (spelling?). Anyway, that’s a show for everyone to try to find on their listings, a must-see.

        • OMG says:

          Thanks.

I remember your photo of Sarah’s rally at the center, when she was running as VP. There were approximately 200 people in attendance. She doesn’t do well in drawing crowds in Anchorage that’s for sure.

    • Elsie says:

Maybe in Anchorage there are just too many people doing far more important things, like coloring their hair and cleaning their toilets, than can make time for $arah and her friend, Scuzzy.

      Jus’ sayin’…

      • jc in co says:

I would rather be cleaning the kitty litter box or scooping doggie poop up in the back yard than attending that h8fest.

        • Baker's Dozen says:

At least your accomplishing something meaningful. Right? 🙂

        • leenie17 says:

There IS a strong similarity between kitty and doggy poop and the stuff that Twit-for-Brains and her semi-bearded jester are spewing.

All of them stink and should immediately be relegated to the garbage!

Spouse is right; 3-400 people is being generous.

IF you think you can stomach it, here’s a link to (part of?) that evening’s speechifying:

Have antacid handy, you’re going to need it.

If this lot gets any closer to the White House than they already are, then the lunatics will truly have taken over the asylum.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

In a democracy, in order to lead effectively, you really need the respect of your constituents. That’s not something she has or will attain.
Think of W’s last year in office. Everyone was just waiting for it to me over. He didn’t do anything until the economy collapsed, Laura had everything moved out of the White House except a couple of suit cases.
The GOP will not run her as their candidate. They hate her and only use her for their own ends.

  40. That’s quite a huge place for such a small crowd. How many people would fit in there if it were full? Maybe that’s the way to figure out how many actually did show up. Really, when the tourists come, they should have to wear a badge so they aren’t counted in the number of attendees.

I’ve heard hints all day long that SP is seriously considering a run for president in 2012. Seriously? I don’t think I can stand anymore of her. And I definitely would have to get blinders and thick ear muffs if she even runs, let alone the horrible possibility that she might win – all I have to do is remember that we had W for 8 years and I want to run screaming into the night. Now there’s a scary Halloween costume for you – Sarah Palin dressed up as POTUS – shudder.

    • OMG says:

I believe that she has been setting herself up to run because she is so into herself that she truly believes she was destined to be POTUS. He followers will blindly support her despite all evidence pointing to her obvious lack of intellect and gravitas. I take her seriously not because she’s qualified but because anything can happen in politics (Angel, O’Donnell, Miller,,,etc as examples).

If she runs, we must do all that we can to assure that she does not win the GOP nomination. Having her that close to the WH is in itself apocalyptic.

      • Writing from Alaska says:

I heard she will run ‘if nobody else wants to’ or some weirdness. Well, just in case, I think I will run for President in 2012. Sorry, Sarah.

  41. fishingmamma says:

    That’s just sad

    • fishingmamma says:

      Hit enter too soon.

Brings to mind the old (well, 60’s) poster — “What would happen if they declared a war and nobody showed up?” Joke declared war. Nobody showed up.

  42. twain12 says:

    have a great time !!!!

A picture is worth a thousand tweets!

  44. Yeah, I think you were generous.

  45. Kath the Scrappy says:

Have fun! Looking forward to reading your stories when you return AKM!

  46. marlys says:

Wow, that photo really captures the warmth of the party. They could of saved a buck by renting the mugshot.
    Have a blast in DC!
