Open Thread – Rick Steiner at APU Campus
Mudflats contributor Rick Steiner will give a presentation, with some astonishing images, on the Gulf Oil disaster on Sunday. He will also talk about other spills, including the Dalian, China spill, and Nigeria. Marybeth Holleman will briefly talk about how the Gulf spill felt to Alaskans who withstood the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and will read a very short excerpt from her book Heart of the Sound. Q&A and reception will follow.
Stop by Grant Hall at the campus of Alaska Pacific University at 2:30pm on Sunday. It’s going to be a great presentation.
Feeling tired?
Hope fading?
Elastic on your big girl/ big boy britches stretched to the breaking point and afraid you’re really about to show your…tuchus?
Got all kinds of doubts and obstacles dragging you down?
Watch this. It’s just one short minute and 2 seconds. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

If that didn’t restore some YES WE CAN, then you’ve really given up.
(Disclaimer: I am in no way profiting from Nike, but give them credit for this powerful, though commercial, message.)
Now take a deep breath….
then loudly and proudly proclaim,
“I am a mudpup. I want my country and my world Forward. I WILL do My Part!”

No excuses. Just Do It.

i think i put anyone can look. please note my sign, i did not forget the mudflats 🙂
Now that’s some mudpup power! I’m going sane, also, too…even though I’m fueled/powered up by recent insanity at the polls.
Thanks a bunch, SCOTUS! You’re much on my mind with your Corporations/CEOs, er, “citizens” Untied, er, United…there must be some way to mitigate your horrid sell-out. We are Watching All Y’all. We are Searching. We WILL find a way to take Our country Forward.
This is my Solemn Promise.
This is my Sacred (not Scared!) Vow.
Sincerely,

Once some disaster is “over”, meaning not in the news every day, it’s so easy to forget it. Just today, though, I read a story in the paper that they have found coral reefs that have damage that is likely due to the oil spill. They will have to do more investigation to determine the cause of the dying coral. I wonder how many other things have been affected that we don’t know about yet. Probably way too many.
“Probably way too many.” You betcha, Pat, with nothing to wink about here.
Many thanks to Rick Steiner for stirring the pot…for not sitting down and shutting up!
I hope someone films this and sends it out on the interwebz; I would be very interested to hear his report, but even with the extra hour this weekend, no way I’ll make it from the Gulf of Mexico to Alaska by 2:30. 🙂
