Open Thread – Boys & Girls Club
Assembly members Elvi Gray-Jackson (center back row) and Paul Honeman (second from right) greet volunteers and attendees of the Anchorage Boys & Girls Club. Many of those in attendance at last Tuesday’s Assembly meeting gave passionate, convincing and sincere testimony in support of keeping the 7% of their budget that Mayor Dan Sullivan has cut in his 2011 municipal budget.
If you know the importance of the Boys & Girls Club in helping single parents, and giving kids some place safe and productive to go after school, tell your Assembly members to keep the money. An email sent to wwmas@muni.org will reach them all, and investment in kids is never wasted.
Loved opening my National Geographic magazine today and seeing the article on Pebble Mine!!!
Thank you, Mona Lisa, for sharing that. Grateful I had a tissue nearby – so wonderful, so sweet, and so the message we all need. I hope someone sends it to Sarah.
Look what happened in ‘my’ mall yesterday! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-JNrOV8Gh0
Thank you for sharing that!

Boys and Girls Club!
While attending chemotherapy and radiation treatments in Anchorage back in the early 90’s, the Boys and Girls club was my life line. Not the cancer treatment, it was the wonderful programs, people and space at the Boys and Girls Club!
The afterschool program, the folks who taught karate, sports and arts… Oh my, they all made it eaiser to parent thru cancer.
I’ve emailed my now grown kids the horror of what Sullivan is doing.
You we don’t live in Anchorage, but when we did, Boys and Girls
club made it richer for us.
Email or call the mayor… Let him know that every penny spent on Boys and Girls is for a better community spirit. Better citizens. Better moral… Better lives.
Just do it.
Come to think of it, Bartender/Mayor should of went to the Boys and Girls Club while growing up. Instead he is acti g like he grew up, a whinney brat who thinks he knows best, while serving up drinks.
Everyone Is Hate-Reading Sarah Palin’s New Book
When the final Harry Potter book was published, many wondered what author could follow J.K. Rowling and stoke such rabid anticipation for every release among her readers. The answer: Sarah Palin. Palin’s book, America by Heart, is in stores now and pretty much everyone is writing about it, though in the Alaskan’s case, many have to hold their noses to do it.
One of those brave reviewers is Slate’s Dave Weigel, who promises that if you set “your expectations for the new book low and they will be met.”

Great read…thanks.
Sarah Palin has announced her theme song for her 2012 presidential election bid:
Watch the Standells sing it in this medley:

It really grasps Sarah’s true essence, no?
Indeed.
King speaks for many of us in his column today. Let’s hope that the country listens.

Dan Sullivan should be ashamed of himself.
