With the passage of so many important pieces of legislation during the U.S. Congress “Lame Duck” session, just think what GINO Saha could have done for Alaska as a “Lame Duck Governor” (tongue firmly in cheek).

My favorite uncle passed on yesterday. He was a pilot in the air corps in WWII, and then went to college on the GI bill. He got a job in Alaska in 1950 and moved there, I think to Anchorage. At some point, he was hired by UAA and moved to UAF shortly before the big earthquake. That really scared me because he and his family must be close, being in the same state as the quake and all that. He worked hard, was i the hunting lottery for a moose each year and did bag a moose when he got a permit in order to help along the family budget. He hunted, but only to sustain his family, only from home, and he never liked it. He loved Alaska, traveled all over, saw every town, though not every village, spent a good deal of time in the bush in various areas studying wildlife for his job. He loved Alaskans and had friends all over, though he was a private, introverted man. He lived there up until a couple of years ago, when living apart from their children and the cold winters became too much for them. He and his wife relocated to the lower 48 and became sourdoughs. They missed Alaska and went back every spring. Getting there in 1950, he knew every founder of the state and considered Ted Stevens a friend, though they were never close. He had Wally Hickel stories, though I don’t remember a single one. He could agree to disagree with those around him and kept his own council.
Uncle, when you moved away, Alaska lost a great and caring citizen. May your qualities live on in that great state.
With love,
Baker

Tied!! Perfect score.
Fist bump!
100% until I got bored because the questions were SO EASY.
Here’s a long letter to $P from a progressive. I’m still reading it, but got to this part and decided to go ahead and share it:
“But the point here is (most of us) don’t HATE you. Most of us think you’re embarrassing, hilarious and ridiculous, some may think you’re dangerous to the nation and a Serial Fact-Mangler – some of may resent being repeated called some Lesser Form of American – but for those outside Alaska who you haven’t done anything to personally, there’s no reason to really Hate. However it seems pretty clear that You May Hate Us.”

It’s an excellent read G Katz, thanks 🙂
Hey AKM and Mudpups, Season’s Greetings from the land of Oz. I haven’t had much internet access and likely won’t for the next few days,so I need to wish you all a Happy Christmas now. It seems as if I have brought the odd weather from Europe to here….but we have gotten some lovely sunny days.
I had the great pleasure of meeting our dear Snoskred and she showed hubby, daughter and myself a wonderful time. We saw the most beautiful beach on earth and Snos took us kangaroo spotting and would not rest until she had found a few for us. We are hoping to meet up again after Xmas.
I’m currently visiting my birthplace in NSW and having a ball catching up with old school friends and relatives. We will be heading up to the northern beaches of Sydney tomorrow and spending Xmas there. We are due to return to Ireland in the New Year, if the airports are open!
So, in case I don’t get another opportunity…..HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.
Humpf! I the rill kristins know that it’s MERRY krismess! 😀
Sounds like you’re having a lovely time. Keep it up. And may your Christmas be merry AND happy!
Merry Christmas!!! Also too. 🙂
Isn’t Happy Christmas traditional in the UK? I’m curious.

Happy Christmas to you and yours, Irishgirl, and thanks for the music from the swap, also, too.
Kangaroo spotting with Snos! Sounds like a little piece of heaven.
Have tons of fun on holiday, and safe home again, eh? 🙂
((((Irishgirl and family))))) have a wonderful Christmas.
Happy, Happy, Merry, Merry, Irish and family!
How did boodog do that?!
That picture of Palin in the yellow hoody – she’s lookin’ a little “jowly” there, you betcha!
I couldn’t watch Sarah and Kate together. I can’t imagine why Sarah thought that would be a good idea. Maybe she didn’t watch Kate on Dancing with the Stars. Talk about whining and self-pity. I have even less respect for Kate than for Sarah. But it’s almost a toss up which one should get worst Mother of the Year. Maybe they can share it.
What a nice addition… Very clever.
WOW! Quoting esnl, “consider Congress one big Death Panel.”
Hard to believe that we are spending more now than at the height of the cold war (and Vietnam) on things military. Geee wiz, where is all that (our) money going???

Of my, I see blue sky. At least for now. Between Friday afternoon and Monday morning I’ve had 13 inches of rain according to the little gauge on my deck. I’m going to go get some errands done before it starts again this afternoon.
You poor thing! I’ve gone through 5 inches in a few days in Seattle but never 13. everyones basement flooded , mudslides everywhere. I hope you and your house are ok.
We haven’t had quite as much in the south Puget Sound where I am. But the stories out of California are horrible. I remember being down there about 6 years ago in February. Hubby had to go for work, so I tagged along and spent my days at Disneyland. The freeways were the scariest. Flat and filled with water and people were still trying to drive 60 or 70 in all that rain. There were no lines for rides at Disneyland but at one point any ride that was outside was closed because it was too wet to be safe.
mornin’, mudpups! I came across the following video last night and don’t quite know what to make of it. The comment attached to the vid on the site (where I found it) was: ” I have thought so much about what Mary and Joseph were feeling at the FIRST Christmas – and this just makes it seem more real!”
Yeah, I seriously don’t know how to react to it: Is it cute? well done? relevant? irreverent? cheezy? tacky? wonderful? omg!-able? what?
Any thoughts? beth.

Hmmm. Igniter Media does videos that can be used by churches and religious groups. So the content looks like it accurately follows the Bible. But something about it was just a little too contemporary for me.
That is their point though – they make videos that relate what is in the Bible but do it in a way that will appeal to the younger generation. Funnily enough, my daughters never liked that kind of stuff, but I guess some do.
The roommate kindly woke me at 3:30. I bundled up (only eyes showing) and went to the roof (sshhh, don’t tell the landlord; we’re not allowed up there). Saw the orange moon being eaten by the eclipse. Saw more stars than normal in a NYC sky. Stayed awhile, then got too cold and went back to bed.
Happy Solstice!
We had high clouds here. Hubby gave me a heads up that the eclipse was starting at 10:30 pm. So I went out a little after 11 and I could see it through the clouds. Just the crescent as it was finishing. But very cool. Very cool outside as well. Since it was almost overhead, I was looking up and then got a splat on my glasses. I really hope it was a lone raindrop or a drip from the roof. Otherwise, some bird was out really late last night. At any rate, I went inside and decided to leave the moon to its thing without me watching.
I am lucky I can just look out the window. It was beautiful all night. Landlord doesn’t allow us up on the roof either and has an alarm to make sure 🙁 Happy Solstice to you all too!
What the Senate Democratic Communications Center thinks about Sarah Palin’s views on START:
http://democrats.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=330029&
That was great.
Gosh, I love that photo of her! Says so much so quickly!
WIN!
Classic.
THAT was great! That is how we should be fighting!
Simple visuals that even the teabaggers can understand.
Where is Ted Nugent when you need him. Sarah taught one little Gossellin to spear hot dogs, but like Ted always reminds folks,”you can’t grill it,till you kill it.” , you need to skin your victim before you cook it over an open flame. Never mind,I’ve had a gutfull of fauxknee patriotism from the other side.
The Tea Baggers are now going after the Methodists. I knew that the baggers would eventually have to separate the true Xtians from the fakes, but they are at it already:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/20/judson-phillips-tea-party-methodist_n_799351.html
The right wing wants to destroy all the mainstream Protestants, and with it their influence on American society. You know things like advocating for the poor, sick, needy, homosexuals, justice,… little things like that. They went after the Episcopalians first and succeeded in splitting the church. The church that remains is more liberal and stronger than ever. I don’t think that worked too well. Lately the Presbyterians and Methodists have been under attack. So far, they seem to be following the Episcopalians. A few may leave, but the main body will come back renewed from the attack. The law of unintended consequences at work.
How did Phillips miss all those “love thy neighbor” references in the Bible? Seems like being a Methodist is a good thing, since it involves caring about other people and being good stewards of the resources provided to us by our Creator.
We need a new word for people who believe in the God of the Bible, but don’t approve of the savior he sent. Can’t be CHRISTians since there is no Christ in their worldview, and they can’t be Jews, I mean, PLEASE! So, what ARE they?
Well, the word PHILISTINE comes to mind!
Here’s the definition of philistineism from wikipedia:
“Philistinism is a derogatory term used to describe a particular attitude or set of values. A person called a Philistine (in the relevant sense) is said to despise or undervalue art, beauty, intellectual content, or spiritual values. Philistines are also said to be materialistic, to favor conventional social values unthinkingly, and to favor forms of art that have a cheap and easy appeal (e.g. kitsch).”
Oh dear, Sistah $arah’s mindset is so well defined in that one word.
I did my duty at the local Barnes and Nobles last night located in a Dallas suburb. Tried to be inconspicuous while I turned the books over. There were two tables that had many different books other than Scara’s. Then I spotted stacks of her books under one of the tables. My adult daughter would not allow me to crawl under the table(lol). I figure the good news is that they must not be selling. I certainly did not see anyone with one and I was afraid that someone was going to see me with one in my hand while I was turning them over. Not that anyone would know me here but I do have a reputation to uphold.
Smokey,
I will check out the stores and see if I can spot the one you helped……thanks for doing your duty!
Go north! You know the employees probably hate all those books in disarray. I thought about that when I was doing it, but just could not help myself.
That’s the only reason I don’t do that to Sarah’s books and Glenn Beck’s books. I go at least once a week to my local Barnes and Noble – often enough that I have chatty conversations with the clerks and the ones in the cafe don’t have to ask what I want to drink. But the thought of turning the books over or hiding them is so tempting.
Smokey,
Which store in Big D? I will send my 80 yro Mom over there with her walker to sknock over the whole mess. She LOVES to knock over stuff with her walker – particularly “stuff” she loathes!
Guess I’m not the only one! CostCo’s book section got my magical touchup too also… civic duty in action.
Whining?! I’d have been whimpering if I’d been stuck “camping” with whatzername, er, Her SKREEEEECHY-ness. Full out crawl back in the bed/sleeping bag, pull the covers over my head, eat velveeta right out of the box, and cry for my mama… that kind of whimpering. Guess that’s why I’m no reality teevee diva, eh?
Must have my snarky britches on this morning, flashing on maids a-milking and “ladies” dancing. Desperately seeking visions of sugarplums! 🙂
Kate sold herself and her kids to the highest bidder just like Sarah did. They deserve each other. Oh, does that mean I have snarky pants on, too? 🙂
Tell me about it, there are people you go camping with and there are people you don’t. Epic camping trip a few years ago in the tropics: 48 inches of rain in 3 days. Can you imagine Mrs. $ Palin in that?!?
Wonderfully done, AKM!
BTW, did you see the article at the following article about Sarah’s very own teleprompter at her very own little studio in Wasilla? Caught her with her hypocrisy roaring naked. Best pre-holiday gift ever (almost). Saw this at IM and other sites. Seems it is going to big news for those who are tired of Sister Sarah’s never-ending rant against President Obama. My apologies if this has already been posted here in another post.

Again, thanks for another addition to the song!
sigh – too early, too early, too early in the morning: meant “the article at the following URL . . .”
Thanks for the link! Sheesh. I was waiting for the clouds to just magically disappear earlyearly this morning, and was flipping channels and came across an ad for that show of hers. I watched her instruct Willow on work ethic! I made it for about 10 seconds.
G’morning, sunflower.
Another of granny feckin’ fraud’s frauds exposed…schadenfreude is almost as delicious as sugarplums this morning.
Love it!
Excellent! Proof once again that Sarah Palin is an idiot and a liar.
