Light trails on the floor of the Taproot Cafe.
The Mudflats is taking a little breather this week.
If you’re following the Alaska Senate Race and Joe Millers legal wranglings, there’s a new piece up by Brad Friedman over at The Brad Blog you’ll want to read —> CLICK!
Bud? He isn’t quillified.
Personally I would like to see Miller take this to the Supremes because he has cited Bush v Gore, despite the Supremes’ Supremely childish and unprecedented order that it cannot be cited as precedent. The 75% of Supreme’s functionality is setting and following its own precedents.
I would love to see what kind of new knots Scalia would have to tie himself into in dealing with the extremely irregular knots he tied the Court into in Bush v Gore.
Remember Scalia, before the SOCTUS had even decided that they had jurisdiction to hear the case declared that “President Bush’s” equal protection rights would be violated of all the ballots were recounted. By preempting the Court and stopping the count Scalia Crowned Nepoleon Bush Emperor for Laugh of this country. Literally one man one vote.
I will never forgive Scalia for that one, and neither should the rest of the country. Look where that one decision took us. I wonder how he sleeps at night or if he even realizes that he bears a large amount of the responsiblity for putting Bush in office.
Since this is an open thread, and since we’re all friends, let me ask something that’s been on my mind for awhile: With his stubble and greasy hair, Joe Miller looks…dirty. Has anyone been in close enough proximity to him to actually SMELL him? Does he have a problem with personal hygeine?
AKM was right behind him (or in front) at the airport not long ago. Will she smell and tell? We’ll see!
I saw him in an airport during the election season. Have no clue about the…ahh, PH question, as I did not care to observe him that closely. But I did notice that he did not really have what you’d call presence in person. And the beard-like shadow? Yes, it does make you want to stop in your tracks and hand the guy a razor.
I was at a Chamber event and walked by Joey, and he doesn’t seem to have a hygiene problem. I think its part of “the cult(ure)” — Notice that Tawd keeps the shadow beard going on also, too.
More conservative republicans praise the First Lady’s campaign, slightly slamming silly Sarah in the process:

Thanks for the link. I think I enjoyed the comments as much as the article (as one disgruntled Palin fan pointed out, that was last week’s news). It always amazes me how uneducated the Palin supporters sound. They say they have college degrees but they can’t spell, they don’t check any facts and their points are just, well, stupid. But that’s not news either.
The Right continues to distance itself from Palin, blaming her meteoric rise in national politics on the left’s obsession (which I suppose is partially true, but I’m with many mudpups and Andrew Sullivan in wanting her to disappear–not run).
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/right-turn/2010/12/liberal_fixation_with_palin_co.html
It’s interesting that she says liberals are keeping Sarah in the lime light. I don’t see many liberals going to hear her speeches, contributing to her PAC, buying her book. I don’t see polls that indicate democrats support her at all. No, that’s all coming from Republicans.
It may be that Sarah has little support among Republicans, but that is pretty darned recent, and it is also recent that anyone to the right of Pelosi was able to “woman up” and call her on her stupidity. LIberals mostly pay attention to her to keep an eye on the enemy, call her on stupid remarks, keep Republicans honest, and for some great entertainment value. It can be mighty fun to watch someone embarrass themselves nationally while having no idea they’re a laughing stock. Game shows cash in on the obtuse and silly contestants all the time. DWTS certainly did.
We obsess because of her blatant lying. Lies that only WE point out while the media, up to now, has just repeated her crap because it is entertaining and they get ratings.
But rational people are OFFENDED by the constant lying that goes unchecked.
Dyslexia is a terrible thing to waste. It’s the blog that is “brutally honest”, not the kennel. Teach me to be up til the wee hours checking on races and such.
I am late to the party this am (yes, it’s still barely morning here). I’m beside myself with musher Colleen Robertia’s win at the mid distance Gin Gin 200 race! This is our mudpup’s LoveMyDogs friend, and since she hasn’t been around lately, maybe she’s helping mind the Rogues’ Gallery Kennel fort while both Colleen and hubby ran this race? Joseph ran a training run, and on Colleen’s fourth time running this race, she won overall! It’s a small race, only 18 mushers with one scratched, but a big deal nonetheless.
I think Colleen wanted this win under her belt as a “Yep, licked this one and on to the next!”. The Rogues’ Gallery Kennel blog is one of the most honest blogs out there, and the kennel is a tribute to ethical mushing and is brutally honest about the joys and pitfalls of mushing dogs. I love these guys!
http://rogueskennel.com/blog/?p=764
Colleen’s win brought tears to my eyes. I’m a wimp when it comes to dogs and mushers.
Congratulations to Colleen! Had never heard about the race, but then I’m in Kansas. Glad to hear that an ethical, honest and honorable musher has won! (Not that others weren’t but am simply responding to your tribute to her and her team.)
Some day when you have time, peruse the blog and you will find out how cool these guys are, how hard they work, how much they add to their community, how wonderful the dogs are, and how tough both dogs and mushers are. I would be more scared of meeting a pissed off musher in a dark alley than a thug. They are one tough breed!
Thanks for that extra info. Awesome!!
you are right! i bet LoveMy Dogs is babysitting. the Rogues Gallery is great.
Hey Hey Hurray Colleen & canines! Rock right on in to the bright new year:~)
Camera magic, AKM. Very much appreciated.
Okay, I have been to the Taproot. But I never saw that. Just what do they put in those appletinis, anyway?
ahh Slip. the memory of my first appletini ,sipped while sitting on the terrace of a San Diego restaurant will remain with me forever. unfortunately the memory of the third and fifth appleletini escapes me as does the shopping spree afterward. i did come home with some very interesting outfits. hmmmm.
I suppose you also forgot the world cruise you were taking all us mudpups on? 🙂
It looks like something from those animated TV shows in Japan that give little kids seizures. Can’t look at it for long.
Read a reprint of an LA Times article by Mary McNamara in our local paper this morning. The first part made my morning. Perhaps it will make you smile as well.
“Sarah Palin.
“They have become two of the most incendiary words in the English language, right up there with WikiLeaks, and obesity epidemic.
” ‘Sarah Palin’
“Say it, write it and evoke instant wrath or rapture.
“In the past year, she has become not so much a person or even political figure as a brand, a rhetorical franchise of multi-media proportions.” (End of excerpt)
Yep – a brand. I expect Sarah to put out her own perfume soon. We can all speculate what it will smell like. My guess – top notes will recall sweaty sex, middle notes will smell like money, and the base notes will be simple – BS.
Oops, forgot to put in the link to the article:

Sad times my friends, sad times.
Far too nice to her, as usual.
Ewwww de Palin.
Perfect name!
Now I know why they call it “Toilet water.”
Good one..

So apropos…..
Feds investigate Christine O’Donnell spending
http://t.co/3Ajfyn1
Hmmmm … will $P come to O’Donnell’s defense , ranting that the haters have trumped up charges
against a fine Conservative Christian ? Or will she stay veerrrry quiet , so as not to draw attention to
her own “creative” bookkeeping ?
I think that Palin will lay low until the results of the investigation are in. If the Feds dismiss charges then Palin will speak up a little to loudly for my taste.
She’s not a witch…she’s a felon.
Pffffttttt! She is SO NOT us (praises be!)!
We had snow early this morning – looks like about a couple of inches. It’s still cold, but the streets are already starting to melt. This is the kind of snow I don’t mind. Here today and gone tomorrow – and it waited till after Christmas so we didn’t have to drive in it on Christmas Eve (there are a number of hills between our house and the church we attend) or Christmas Day.
But it is beautiful!
Hey, friend of some Mudpuppies, Colleen Robertia, has won the Gin Gin 200 dog sled race!
http://www.adn.com/2010/12/28/1623135/robertia-wins-gin-gin-sled-dog.html
Wow! And by 40 minutes!! Congratulations, Colleen and dogs!
wonderful! any friend of a pup is a friend to all.
Congratulations Colleen Robertia.
Whoo Hoo!
Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!
Hooray for Colleen and her pups and Rogues’ Gallery Kennel. I started following the Kennel last year in the Iditarod season here on the mudflats. (waving to LovesMyDogs)
That’s some Going Rogue we can all get behind, eh?
That’s right! I’m so glad you follow them (the blog?) They love comments so you should say a hello from Florida and they’d get a kick out of that.
Palin in her wildest dreams might last a week as a musher – if the hard work didn’t do her in first, the dogs would knock her off the sled (they tried that on me!) and leave her out there just to get rid of the voice!
The vision I have is Sarah Palin as the lead dog with her loyal Tea Party followers as the reat of the team. All those Tea Party followers so willing to spend the rest of their lives smelling her ass. Problem is the dog sled would just go in circles as Palin could never lead.
I heard two Doctors discussing the so-called “death-panels” on CNN recently. One of the Doctors was Obama’s doctor for many years while he was living in Chicago.
Both Doctors explained why the so-called ” death panel ” is totally false.
They talked about patients asking about treatment for various conditions. As we all know, Doctors have different opinions, and we need to talk to more than one Doctor when deciding which route to take.
I am sure that many of us have been in this postion before. Also, I think that making a living will is important. This removes the burden for our family.
Let’s hope the majority of the country listens. Let’s also hope that, with Palin’s popularity plummeting, the GOP will stop following her lead in promoting death panel lies.
I’ve been out of the loop for about a month on the legal stuff with the Senatorial election. Last I was aware of, there were actually some valid points Miller had regarding his protestation of the election.
I thought he was going to question things like the count of votes from diebold machines not matching the actual voters registered to vote at that polling location, the diebold counts themselves, and the issues regarding handing out the “write-in” candidate lists, etc. Instead I’m seeing that he filed a whole bunch of law suites based on interpretation of voter intent. What am I missing here? Anybody willing to clear up my confusion in 100 words or less? 😉
I agree. Joe failed to address some of the most salient issues regarding fair and legal elections in Alaska. Mostly he wanted to narrow the gap between him and Lisa to help HIS future in politics. Not so interested in fair and legal elections for all.
The only thing Joe Miller is interested in is a cushy job where he can suck off the tax payers and not have to work. He is dragging this out so he can continue to live off of “campaign funds” and not have to get a real job. Time for a Federal investigation of HIS campaign finances! By the way, what IS Jim Demint’s interst in the Senate race in Alaska anyway? At least it looks like we knocked some sense into Murkowski (see, it is possible to spell her name).
This is an excellent overview of “Death Panel” falsehoods that are being resurrected in the continuing health care saga.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/beltway-beast/sarah-palins-death-panel-claim-resurrected/?cid=blogunit
For those people you might know who are confused (due to Palin’s outrageous claims), this might help them understand the situation a wee bit better.
Her BFF Jan Brewer can tell her about REAL Death Panels down there in AZ.
disgusting
Good point.
Nice picture. I’m guessing this is how Ms Quittbritches is seen by the faithful that stand in line for hours and wait to get their mugs shot with hers. They can probably pick out the exact streak that was her “Muggyness” flying past the gallery,on her way to jet around on her “Bus” tour. Am I right?
LOL!
I forgot to say,Ihave an address where I can send personal checks to Mr Zaki to fund his newest documentary. I will not ever have a credit card and Paypals doesn’t sound like the best alternative. Thanks to all who helped.
Good job! Care to share in case others wish to send a check?
I have asked for permission to release address and should know soon. I am way new at this type of stuff. Thanks for reminding me of what I should have done already.
Mr Zaki has informed me not to publish his address on this forum. I will honor Mr Zaki’s wishes and say thanks for asking.
She had trouble getting 500 people to go to her book signing in Anchorage, more than 700 people jumped into Goose Lake to raise money for the special Olympics instead! I know for SURE that some of the people waiting in line were from out of state and don’t know anything about her. I say for the New Year we ignore her TOTALLY. We have to quit sending her energy, of any kind, and hopefully she will die an ignobale death (figuratively at least).
good morning pups! i just want say to all the folks struggling to dig out of the huge drifts of snow left by the storm. please take care. don’t go out there trying to shovel your way out. wait until you see some young folk out and about. offer them a bribe and a shovel. i don’t want to hear of you ‘catching an attack’ and ending up in a hospital or worse. meanwhile stay warm and safe wherever you are. here are some pics of New York:
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/
Wow. That was the biggest icicle I think I’ve ever seen, and we have some big ones around here. Guess it’s a good idea to look up if you’re walking in that neighborhood.
Take care, bubbles. Sorry you have to deal with the aftermath of that storm. We’re just dealing with rainy days here in Kansas.
Bubbles – I saw pictures on the news this morning. Wow – we hardly ever get huge dumps like that at one blow. Last one I remember was about 48″ in March 2008.
Also, too, icicles can be killers. Their density can be two or three times what the water is liquid – meaning they can weigh much more per volume.
That does look a bit overwhelming for New York City trying to do business as usual. I heard some passengers were trapped in a plane on the tarmac for up to nine hours, after landing in NYC. I would use all four hooves and both antlers to kick the windows right out of that plane if that happened to me. How freaky!!!
Stay warm, Bubbles, and take good care of yourself. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Thank you Bubbles, for those photos…..such a hardship for folks…I’m sending my best vibes to everyone..
Andrew Sullivan weighs in on Palin’s latest numbers. I wholeheartedly agree with his commentary in the last paragraph.
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2010/12/breaking-palin-isnt-popular.html
You’re right, OMG, that last paragraph is one to pay attention to, and I agree with it (and you).
Sullivan is correct. This game playing some Dems think will knock RWNJ like Palin out needs to stop. Vote your candidate. This country’s future is not a chessboard.
I agree most with the last sentence.
For me, it’s all about how someone as lazy, mean and unqualified as Sarah Palin reaching for the stars instead of shootin at the moon (though her show has proven that even a target as large as the moon has a better chance of escaping unscathed) has allowed her to put a nice constellation together on her weak resume.
Not only do people push aside more worthy and qualified benefctors – they tamp them down and drive the bus over them to help Sarah attain credentials needed to appear accomplished.
Alvin Greene still got a 33% voter turnout in the General. There are fringe voters, there are also people motivated to put viruses on strangers computers to make them crash. They get a sick kick out of kicking sand in your face – it is nothing personal.
But Sarah Palin is too dangerous to unleash on the public. A person like her does not deserve to put Party Nominee for POTUS on her resume so she can brag about that also too for the next 40 years.
You are so right…she has a mean spirit…
Good morning, everypup!
I am going to ask a favor of those of you who Facebook. Would you please go to Dennis’ site and get that on your Facebook? He really needs the money, and has a way to go.
Here is his site: http://thesalmonpeople.com/index.html
Thank you. Maybe this will help.
It is going to be 60* here by Friday afternoon with thunderstorms. The thought of that makes me all squinty-eyed.
Been doing a lot of reading so far this morning. Not sure what to think of Mr. Obama’s plans for the next few months. But, Barbara Jordan is getting a stamp! I did love that woman.
Jimzmum… I am not on facebook, but I have contributed via Amazon “kickstarter”.
Hope that maybe some company in AK will see an advertising profit in helping with this undertaking?
Anyone in the Northwest and Canada listening as well? This is far from local!
We as individuals will probably not have the financial wherewithal to come up with this large a sum.
You can also donate on IM’s blogsite.
Made my contribution, shared on Facebook, and shared with my union brothers and sisters, especially those in our Alaska Native/American Indian Caucus, and our state and local affiliates. Such a worthy and important project; hope it gets the funding it needs and deserves.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{everyone who supports this urgent endeavor}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
….oxox also, maybe, too 😉
Barbara Jordan was a beautiful human being..Some people should be granted extra lifetimes–she and Molly Ivins were two who should have been.
