Cody Beltrami, daughter of Alaska AFL-CIO President Vince Beltrami belts out an awesome medley of “16 Tons” and “Which Side are You On?” Alaska’s Got Talent!
Speaking of new beginnings, this recent update of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ condition is heartening:
PHOENIX (AP) — A spokesman for wounded Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords says the lawmaker is showing emotion, good memory skills and an impressive grasp of everything from legislative business to song lyrics. Giffords is being treated in Houston.

Group: Jindal biz backers giving to wife’s charity
By CAIN BURDEAU, Associated Press Cain Burdeau, Associated Press – 2 hrs 7 mins ago
NEW ORLEANS – A charitable foundation set up by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s wife has accepted about $790,000 in donations from corporations that also have given to the governor’s campaign committee since 2007, a nonpartisan watchdog group said Thursday.
Louisiana state law limits the amount that an individual or corporation can contribute to a political candidate to $5,000 per election cycle. But corporate donors gave much more to the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children, which seeks to expand technology at state schools.
The group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, alleged in a report that the Louisiana first lady’s foundation was a way for corporations to “curry favor with the governor while skirting campaign contribution limits.” /snip

Both Scott Walker & Tim Pawlenty share the appearance trait of being a few IQ points short of a quorum!
Tim Pawlenty reminds me of the old school panty waist kid and Walker is just a common bully
“Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that Al Jazeera is gaining more prominence in the U.S. because it offers “real news”–something she said American media were falling far short of doing.”

We will all owe our souls to the company stores if rethuglicans and Korporate Amerika get their way. Bless her little pea-pickin’ heart,as Tennessee Ernie Ford used to say. Thatcrowwoman-reports state that the Eastern Mountain Lion is extinct,is not extinct,or never existed. Boots on the ground. In your infinite wisdom, which is it?
Mike our local paper had an article on the eastern cougar today, claiming that they just do not exist. However, an avid hunter and outdoorsman in Bradford County, PA got an excellent look at a cougar last June. He was in his truck and saw the reddish brown animal cross the road. He jammed on his brakes, and the cougar stopped dead. He saw the entire animal, body, tail, and head. It was a sleek animal, ran low to the ground and moved with elegance. He had been skeptical of friends who claimed they had seen cougars, but now has no doubt that there may not be many, but they do exist.
Extinct doesn’t mean a few animals may or may not exist.
Technically it means there is not enough population left for a viable reproductive strategy.
That means the number of animals that can contribute to a healthy gene pool are not sufficient to sustain it.
Mike, I don’t pretend to know much about cougars, but I do know that Texas has cougars/pumas/mountain lions in it, especially out in the western and southern parts of the state. And they are, by no means, “extinct” in Texas.

As to the Eastern Mountain Lion population, I found this:
“In North America, the Eastern Mountain Lion population has been completely eradicated except for a small population (estimated at 30 individuals) in Florida (Puma concolor coryi AKA Florida Panther), but the main current distribution is limited to the western part of the United States and some parts of Canada (Puma concolor).”

There have been reported sightings of cougars in NY but no evidence to back them up. There were a rash of supposed sightings a few years ago, but all of the photos presented as proof were determined to be from other states.
Several years ago, my sister sent me a newspaper story about a cougar found napping on the altar of a church in Colorado (Canyon City, I think?). It had wandered in through a door left propped open during a holiday weekend. When animal control tranquilized and removed the cougar (which I believe weighed about 160 lbs), they discovered its hairs in several rooms, indicating that it had been there quite a while and looking for the best place to snooze. Coming across that in the church might make even ME suddenly find religion!
LOL
But what would you have been doing there in the first place? 😀
Cody is a real breath of fresh air…I’ll be singing that all day, also, too.
Solidarity, brothers and sisters.

Well Mudpups I’m going to be headed out to South Dakota either today or tomorrow where my critters and I will have a roof over our heads, well at least until Way, Way Out West throws me out. LOL This is all because of the great community that this blog has become and I’m grateful everyday for it’s existence. I can’t thank Way, Way Out West enough for all her help she has offered me and the kindness she has shown towards another human being who is no more then a stranger to her. I hope this is a new beginning for me and I can make a life for myself in this new and mysterious place I’m about to venture towards. I’ll be off line for a while. Maybe when I return I’ll change my nick to “Way, Way, Out West Also Too”. LOL – only kidding AKM. Although this person is not into halo’s and wings she certainly deserves them. Again many thanks Way, Way, Out West!!!

I’m listening right this moment to “The Weavers” Carnegie Hall @ 1955. This is the music of the movements. It certainly started with miners’ safety: collective barginning.
Deary, listen to the music, read the history. It is an honorable life.
And this one too —

Cody would learn a lot of great music if she studied music’s impact on the labor movement throughout America in the 1920’s to the 1070’s.
