Oyster Roundup! Guns, Money and Cheese…

~Thick and fast they came at last, and more, and more, and more!

Pass the Bree

Hey, remember when Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan “favorited” a porn star on Twitter last year? It was quite an entertaining tale, and you can refresh your memory HERE. Little did we know that the story would have a Chapter 2, and become more entertaining still. You see, it turns out that Mayor Sullivan’s favoritest porn star has now shed her porn name, and become (are you sitting down?) one of Charlie Sheen’s two “goddesses.” That’s right boys and girls… Sully’s Bree Olson is now Charlie’s Rachel Oberlin.

Scheaffer “You’re Not the Boss of Me” Cox Arrested

Machine guns? Check.   Assault Rifles? Check.   Grenade launcher? Check.  Dozens of high-powered rifles and pistols? Check.  Pineapple grenades?  Check. And….. dang. Where did it go?  Ah, yes. Thousands of rounds of ammunition? Check.

That’s all you need to be part of the Sovereign Citizen movement headed up by Fairbanks’ most notorious 26-year old paperboy terrorist with the pompous name. Oh, and you’ll need to do some plotting and scheming about kidnapping federal judges and murdering state troopers where they live. And what’ll it get you in the end? Arrested.  Big time.

Cox and his buddies were arrested and charged with conspiring to commit murder, kidnapping and arson, weapons misconduct, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.  I’m guessing that Mr. Cox’s Kindergarten teacher is going, “I KNEW IT!”

We Are WI

Thanks to the Mudflats crew on the ground in Madison, Wisconsin. Patrick DePula has been our correspondent with updates, reports and photos. You can follow his Twitter feed for live updates at twitter.com/pdepula. Also thanks to Anonymous Cheesehead and Attagirl for reports as well. Alaska stands with Wisconsin, even as our own governor issued a statement saluting the “courageous stand” of Governor Walker against unions. Wisconsin is now, but others may soon follow. WE are WI, and WE are WE – and all in this together. Solidarity.

Sunlight is the Best Disinfectant

You got Muni in my church…. No, you got church in my Muni! Interesting that a house in the Eastbrook subdivision off of Muldoon Road, which is owned by the Anchorage Baptist Temple and which is tax exempt,  is sporting a political sign for a certain Adam Trombley that you might remember from last election. Adam Trombley is running for Assembly against wingnut agitator Paul Bauer, and incumbent decent sane guy Mike Gutierrez. Last time Trombley ran, he got trounced by the awesome Paul Honeman. This time he might be in an even more difficult 3-way race, so hopefully he still has the willing and enthusiastic assistance of the Mayor’s party planner.

Gimme All Your Money. Please?

Hey, I’ve got a great plan! How about you give some guy a whole bunch of money? What do you think?

I see your puzzled expression.  No, he’s not going to give you anything for it.  No, he’s not going to promise to give you anything for it in the future. But he might be nice to you if it works out for him. I mean, you never know, right?

If you’re not jumping up and down to hire me as your financial planner, then you’re probably smarter than a certain Alaska Governor thinks you are. Now, on top of the $2billion annual oil giveaway (for nothing in return) that the Governor wants you to get on board with, there’s THIS. Adding insult to injury, now we’ll be putting an extra couple hundred mil in the satin lined pockets of big oil. Just because we’re nice that way. Revenue? We don’t need no stinking revenue!

Just how many moose and bear were they planning to take with all that weaponry?

It’s okay to murder law enforcement, but to not have a reproductive choice. Ummm, I don’t get it?

If you murder the law enforcement, who will enforce the anti-choice rules on those who choose to abort anyway because they don’t want to follow your totalitarian fundamentalist rules?

HELP! I’m caught in the twist of pretzel logic!

    • fishingmamma says:

There you go, trying to find a way to inject logic into that conversation. It won’t work, I tell you, It just won’t…..

  2. So, I was wondering how long it will take someone to point out to Congressman Pete King that these latest arrests are people who are not Muslim – the ones in Alaska and the guy in Spokane that planted the bomb near the parade route of MLK Day. His reasons for investigating mosques falls apart unless he also investigates the schools these men attended or their churches or whatever organizations they were in.

The thing I keep wondering about King is whether he remembers any of the McCarthy era. He’s five years older than I am, so he might. I was too young to know what was going on, but my mother still taked about it 5 or 10 years later – usually when we watched an old movie and I asked why we weren’t seeing some of the actors in newer movies. It all went back to the blacklisting that was done. It just seems like King is heading down the same path unless someone steps in to stop him.

    http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/joe-miller-denies-connection-jailed-alaska-militia-leader

“On March 12, JoeMiller.us, the web site of 2010 Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller, sent out a public announcement to e-mail subscribers denying connection to an Alaska militia leader arrested this week near Fairbanks.”

    ————————————————————————————-
    Is Joe worried a bit?

    • InJuneau says:

      One can only hope!

    • Hmm, sounds like Joe wasn’t very careful about chosing friends or “associates”. That photo places Cox really close to good ole Joe, doesn’t it.

      • slipstream says:

Someone at the right moment last fall could have taken a picture of Slipstream standing between Debbie Ossiander and Mayor Dan “Big Hands” Sullivan. The picture wouldn’t mean any real connection, though, just a coincidence.

Miller’s record of hiring militia thugs to illegally detain a reporter, though . . . there’s an undeniable connection to the militia movement.

” I’m guessing that Mr. Cox’s Kindergarten teacher is going, “I KNEW IT!”” I bet you’re right about that.

I was chatting the other day with several of my colleagues at school. We were discussing how one of our little cherubs is so disturbed that we would bet money that eventually he will either kill someone or be murdered himself. We’ve been saying the same thing about him since he transferred to our school last year. And he’s only in second grade. Good teachers really can spot them early.

We were also discussing how the changes in education policy (often caused by budget cuts or political pressure) have placed some seriously disturbed children in general education classes, usually without any additional support for the teacher. No Child Left Behind is causing entire classes to be left behind as teachers struggle to deal with one or two children who need to be in different settings with people who are trained to properly educate and supervise them.

It is truly frightening to see a young child who has no conscience. I’m betting that’s what Mr. Cox’s teachers saw right from the first day of kindergarten.

    • psminidivapa says:

I teach in a middle school. I deal everyday with “No Child Left Untested.” NCLB is the worst thing that has happened to our country….ever. It’s turning our schools into factories and our kids into unthinking robots, who are great at thinking INSIDE the box and picking “best out of four answers.”

Having said that, my colleagues and I also do “the list.”……who is most likely to end in jail, who is most likely to be dead before age 21, who is most likely to be pregnant before graduation, who is most likely to be a drug addict, who is most likely to end up in some sort of institution….

It is weirdly surprising – our percentage….considering we are looking at 13 year olds.

      • I’ve not heard one teacher say that NCLB was beneficial to the education of students. I remember when I taught, the only standardized text we gave was the Iowa Basic Skills. Some of my second graders were very stressed and consequently didn’t do as well as they did every day in class. Others could have cared less. As teachers, we were instructed to NOT teach to the test, and we didn’t. What I always told parents when the results came back, was that it showed how their child did on a specific day, but I was more interested in their over-all performance throughout the year.

I really lost all respect for standardized tests when one of my students, who was usually a C or D student, marked a bunch of answers in about 5 minutes. I told him he could check over his answers because he had plenty of time. He chose not to – and got a higher score than some of my high achievers. Turns out he was a good guesser – without even reading the questions. So much for accuracy and importance of testing.

Every time I hear that we should have more testing of students or that the performance of students should determine a teachers salary or retention, I remember that kid. I also remember how I did on tests or how my daughters did. We all did well enough in school, but we are not good test takers.

I went to a Republican town hall meeting today and brought up the problems the Bush 2001 and 2003 tax cuts have caused. Washington state has cut TANF completely out for anyone who is receiving disability. I asked about what is going to happen to these families. The answer was that there is a lot of welfare fraud and that the fraud needs to be cut out first so only the truly deserving will be getting help. I mentioned that it appears that the budget shortfall will be solved by further hurting the most vulnerable. I got a few quiet boos–. This is my first time of speaking at a public meeting and I wasn’t really prepared, but I will be next time.

    • michigander says:

Good for you auni! Don’t be discouraged – every little bit helps and your words surely made others stop and think (o:

    • bubbles says:

      Bravo Auni!. spectacular.

    • dreamgirl says:

      That take guts. Well done.

    • tigerwine says:

I envy you your courage, and your willingness to keep on. I’m the kind who will work quietly behind the scenes, and work hard, but really admire folks like you who get out there so our side can have a presense. Other than WI, it seems there are a lot of us like that. XXOO

  6. michigander says:

Holy Moly – that’s a lot of oysters to stew! Thanks for something different to contemplate.

Also, I am going to research Moly as I have been saying that lately and not sure if Moly is Holy (o:

    • thatcrowwoman says:

      from wikipedia:
“The phrase, “Holy Moly,” is an exclamation of surprise initially used by the Captain Marvel Comic-Book characters created in 1939 by artist C. C. Beck and writer Bill Parker. Those characters (and the expression “Holy Moly”) first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (February 1940) and Fawcett Comics (1939–1953); for details see Captain Marvel (DC Comics).”

      Great Caesar’s Ghost!
      🙂

      • Wasn’t that phrase a favorite of Thurston Howell the third on Gilligan’s Island,if I remember more than the Ginger or Mary Ann debates?

      • michigander says:

Jumpin’ Jehosephats (sp?)! Thank you (o:

And now who is Jehosephat? Hee-hee.

      • fishingmamma says:

Holy Moly was used frequently in the movie “Grumpy Old Men”.

  7. I’m puzzled,no, its more than that. Where in the world do these people? come from? They cannot be born of earthly and mortal women. They must imbibe Drano(R) as a first nourishment for they lack the milk of human kindness. It has become more and more evident as the weeks pass, that these reprehensible rethugs and tea-baggers were never shown love and therefore they show no compassion for their fellow numans in need. They only seem to be motivated by greed and enjoy human suffering. I am really at a loss to know what to do to them, for them and about them.

    • Laurie says:

I read somewhere that it’s really about fear. That is supposedly what motivates them. Puzzles me too.

  8. wendy isbell says:

Mudflats, have you reported the ABT tax exempt house to the IRS? They require video or picture evidence of a violation of Sec. 501 Rev. Rul. 2007-41.

  9. LibraryLady says:

Whoever saw the Anchorage Baptist Temple property sporting the political sign can report the violation at http://www.au.org/take-action/report-a-violation/ The site describes violations and offers a form to report the incident to American’s United. They keep track of the tax exempt churches who like to have their tax breaks and political action too. They will warn them politely and if the church doesn’t come into compliance with the law they will proceed legally (both politely and effectively). AU is dedicated to Church/State separation.

  10. mpm says:

I meant to include this in my last post. Shaeffer “Francis” Cox lives in my neighborhood in Fairbanks. We got home just as things were winding down. Today’s Fairbanks Daily News Miner article reports $3 million bail set.

    http://www.newsminer.com/view/full_story/12316773/article–3-million-bail-set-for-Schaeffer-Cox—2-million-for-4-others-charged-in-alleged-murder-plot?instance=home_news_window_left_top_1

If you go through the pictures you can see SFC (third picture) He is the one with the smile on his face. We were pleased to read that the judge refused to allow Cox to have firearms in his home if he manages to make bail and be released. His lawyer argued that Cox “needed to be armed ‘so he is not a sitting duck for people who may come after him’ ” (FDNM 3/12) How about “them oysters”!

And to add to the pile of Mollusca (although I hate to malign such a dignified phylum) is the latest uninformed scree from SP about “union thugs.”

A new poll shows how people outside of her “circle of sycophants” feel: 60% of people polled view her unfavorably (DUH!)

At least Lisa Murkowski has shown some guts in being the only Republican Senator making a stand against defunding Planned Parenthood.
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/51155.html
An interesting set of occurrences in the week of the 100 year anniversary of International Womens’ Day!

    • Moose Pucky says:

Yes but… she voted for the budget bill that included the defunding. Typical Lisa. Likes to say she did and she didn’t support whatever.

    • I guess nothing that Bachmann says should surprise me, but really, does the woman ever think before she opens her mouth? And doesn’t she have a law degree from somewhere? She can’t be so stupid that she thinks the founding fathers worked to get rid of slavery and that Lexington and Concord are in New Hampshire – can she? Really?

    • …..amending some collective bargaining privileges of state unions. Is that what they were doing? Silly me,I took the guv at his word that they were gonna bust the unions.

      • I’m gonna have to paraphrase a bit here about Bachman and rethugs in general; from my unupholstered brain through my mouth to your unupholstered brain through your ears. There, that explains why the message is filtered badly on both ends. I can only hope that Ms Bachman and followers all slit their wrists in solidarity and no one has a cell phone to call 911.

    Best line I’ve heard today:

“Don’t forget to move your clocks one hour forward tonight. Unless you are in Wisconsin, in which case you move them back 50 years.”

  13. Ripley in CT says:

Cox’s real first name is Francis. Why couldn’t he just change it to Frank?

Cox’s Palin and Miller link is so juicy. She won’t be able to shake this one off her Naughty Monkeys
