Open Thread – Where in the World are the Authors?

Blind Allegiance co-authors have been busy!

Frank Bailey has been doing back to back interviews in the Big Apple with everyone from Lawrence O’Donnell to Sean Hannity to The View and CNN. Be sure to look for him tomorrow on Inside Edition.

Jeanne Devon appeared on Sun Network News in Ottawa with David Akin, and you can catch her tomorrow live streaming at Radio or Not with Nicole Sandler at 7:30am Alaska time, 11:30am ET.

Ken Morris had a great interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, and will be seen nationally on NBC news channels.

I’ll keep you posted as more schedules become available.

So, how does Sarah Palin and her staff feel about all this attention going to Blind Allegiance? I guess you could say they’re a bit prickly lately.

~A visitor to my yard who reminded me of someone… only adorable.

Hey, Lisa Murkowski was one of 5 Republicans to vote against the Ryan scam –

“Democrats voted unanimously to defeat the House budget plan, drafted by Rep. Paul Ryan (R) of Wisconsin, which would cut $4.4 trillion in spending over 10 years and reduce Medicare to a government subsidy to purchase private insurance.

They were joined by five Republicans, Sens. Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, both of Maine. The measure failed 40 to 57.”

Happy, happy birthday, AKM and Irishgirl, and many happy returns of the day.

I’m too ill to post much (first sinus infection in over 40 years!), but the good news is that the bf will be home from hospital tomorrow. Thanks to all Mudpups for the love and support.

    Health and peace.

Home from work and I don’t know if the letter carrier has been by yet. We have had subs all week and last night the poor carrier came through after 5:30. I think he was doing a double route.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. I was able to download the kindle book today. The hardcopy still has not arrived. Just wow!!! I couldn’t have asked for a better present…..have been reading non-stop since 10am. I’m on the last fifth of the book.

“The state of Alaska says it needs more time to produce emails Sarah Palin sent as governor and that were requested under the public records act more than two years ago as she was running for vice president.” Anchorage Daily News

2 years, 8 months, and ticking… Good to see the Lou Parnell administration running at peak efficiency. Toss him/them/any of ’em/all of ’em in jail on the 31st for contempt until they’re produced.

Did anyone else know that The Undefeated is the title of a John Wayne movie? A friend just told me that.

    • mike from iowa says:

I did,I did. I am not a John Wayne fan, though. Every week some telly station runs a bunch of JW movies which gives me more excuses to read more. You getting any bad weather or just rain? NW Iowa is getting more rain again. We don’t need any for a month or more.

      • jimzmum says:

Very bad. I have been in our storm closet for two hours. Nasty evening.

        • mike from iowa says:

I just heard from my sister in Florida that Sedalia,Missouri was struck by a tornado around 1:30 this afternoon. My Mother’s sole surviving sibling and two of my cousins live in Sedalia. My relatives are okay, not sure how the rest of the town is. Weather is really getting strange. Hope you and yours remain safe and sound.

          • jimzmum says:

It has passed. We are okay. Nothing much but gutloads of rain. One more day of this, and the system will be gone, or so the weather aliens agree. I am glad. We are all pretty tired. I am glad your people are safe.

  11. BeeJay says:

    Happy Birthday Jeanne!

  12. jimzmum says:

By BETH FOUHY and CAROLYN THOMPSON, Associated Press – 1 hr 8 mins ago

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Kathy Hochul told her supporters they had picked the right issue to fight a Republican on long-held Republican turf.

The Democrat rode a wave of voter discontent over the national GOP’s plan to change Medicare and overcame decades of GOP dominance here to capture Tuesday’s special election in New York’s 26th Congressional District.

Hochul defeated Republican state Assemblywoman Jane Corwin on Tuesday night, capturing 47 percent of the vote to 43 percent for Corwin, to win the seat vacated by disgraced Republican Chris Lee. A wealthy tea party candidate, Jack Davis, took 9 percent.
    ****
Here’s a little sidelight: Ian Murphy, The Buffalo Beast blogger who impersonated David Koch and punked Scott Walker in WI, and was a candidate for the above seat, but was excluded from the debates, volunteered for Corwin! Here is his pre-election account! I love it!

  15. Marnie says:

Many contrats on your publication date AKM.
Your are now a authoress so beyond being a bloggeress, I guess.

It is diffiult to measure how importat it might ultimately be for you guys in Alaska and elsewhere to keep the fire lit beneath Palin.
Her bots just this week turned a contributor on Gryphen’s sight into hamburger and drove her off the site.
Those are the people, that is the kind of attitude, that must not be allowed to prevail.

Keep up the good fight. And well done.

    • Snoskred says:

I wouldn’t normally say anything, but I think this is worth saying out loud.

I personally feel that it is the responsibility of *any* website to provide decent moderation so that any contributor can feel welcome and that they are in a safe space. That is my opinion.

There are some sites out there which allow flame wars and allow trolls and allow people to treat others in ways you would never allow your families to be treated in. And if you wouldn’t let it happen to your family, would you let it happen to someone contributing on your website?

That is precisely why The Mudflats has a large team of people behind the scenes keeping an eye on things 24/7.

We have had situations where commentors have attacked other commentors and when these things have happened we have done everything in our power to stop such attacks, to sort things out and stop it happening again.

Even though we have done everything we could, there have been times in the past where people have been upset by other commentors and while it feels absolutely awful on this end that such things happened (and even more awful for the person under attack) it has allowed us to learn valuable lessons and change the guidelines to stop those things happening in the future.

There are people with attitudes that should not be allowed to prevail – but we also have a responsibility to not allow that kind of thing to happen in the spaces we provide for our fellow humans to hang out in. Think what would happen if more websites chose to accept that same responsibility – where would those “bots” go then?

WordPress blogs make it very easy to prevent anonymous comments and so do blogger although the blogger options are more limited – I know there is the option that commentors must have a google account. It isn’t hard to make one, you can easily get an account in a few seconds and then use that for commenting in the future. When I had a blogger blog, that was the option I chose to use.

I have seen a lot of blogger blogs switch to services like Discus because they have a lot more control over moderation.

There will always be people who do not like guidelines, who say a lot about a lack of freedom of speech.. Some people feel that in a democracy, everyone should have the right to be heard.

I agree. I believe that our democracy gives you the right to publish your own blog or create your own forum. It does not give anyone the right to turn up in someone else’s space and behave inappropriately.

To each their own, of course. But I hope that commentor finds their way over here to our civil space. 🙂

      • Kath the Scrappy says:

Have I ever told you how much I luv you Snoskred and your “people behind the scenes keeping an eye on things 24/7”?

This is a classy site. When I was arguing on another blog about why to buy AKM’s book, told them about the rules and how decent Mudflats is – the Republicans STOPPED talking. Unbelievable!!

Thanks for all your HARD work! We do appreciate you ALL!

      • mike from iowa says:

While we are on the subject of appropriateness,I am curious to know what would be the rule regarding comparing one person’s looks with those of another of the opposite gender? I will give you an example and you can burn me in heck if need be. I have seen pictures of a certain RAM and thought she looked familiar. I looked up pictures of Jim Steinman(who wrote most of Meat Loaf’s hit records and for others) and they look so similar to me they could be the same person,or twins. I am not inferring anything. And I really don’t want to push the envelop.

        • Snoskred says:

There is a website on the internet devoted to just that thing, Mike. 🙂

          http://totallylookslike.icanhascheezburger.com/

I think there is actually a website on the internet devoted to most anything..

With that said, it depends on how you put it. If you put it just as you did above, that is probably not going to get you in trouble.

I have seen a lot of comments on other sites about RAM’s appearance and it isn’t somewhere I would usually go myself as far as making a comment about it because as people say, if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything. 🙂

          • mike from iowa says:

Muchas gracias for all that you do do. I was kinda hoping I’d maybe get tied up and whipped(just kidding). I probably won’t go that route again. BTW the website you listed is kinda interesting. I will ne going that route again.

I have no idea how one goes about moderating a site such as this, but I do know that you do an outstanding job. Thank you for the safety, if you will, of here. Thank you, everyone, for working so hard to make this a place to learn, to share, to grow.

        • Snoskred says:

It is sometimes a bit like herding cats, sometimes hours of boredom followed by moments of absolute sheer terror, occasionally involves very long gaps between any form of sleep or food, always interesting, from time to time you get to do awesome things for people like surprise them with flowers after the loss of a loved one, or chip in for them to have wood for winter.. A lot of laughter, and the occasional tears..

I have learned so much about the geography and politics of America also too! More so even than the Quitter Queen, I would be willing to bet. That isn’t a bad effort given I live about 14 hours flying time away from the US.

Without a doubt the best thing is the team of people. I generally know more about them – and sometimes their family, friends and pets – than I do about my own family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So a big shout out to the awesome team of Admins & Mods. 😉 Y’all rock.

No disrespect to any of the other authors, ( I could be bias) but I think that our AKM would be a superb guest on any show to promote ” Blind Allegiance” as well as being highly competent to articulate factually what has been going on behind the scenes with Quitter Twitter! Is this in the near future? Just asking?
