Open Thread – Brian at Netroots

Brian the Mudflats’ Moose had a fabulous time at Netroots Nation this year. In addition to meeting up with old friends from years past, he got to know some new faces. Check out his full gallery of acquaintances on the Brian tab above.

Brian is a huge fan of native born Alaskan Darcy Burner, President of ProgressiveCongress.org

One of Brian's favorite co-authors of "Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin" award winning novelist Ken Morris

Brian has the best seat in the house for comedian extraordinaire, and co-creator of The Daily Show, Lizz Winstead

A moose smooch from Cliff Schecter, political commentator and author of "The Real McCain"

How fun for you, but how fun for Netroots to have the Alaska Girls ! Thanks for sharing.

Brian sure knows how to schmooze with the best!

Meanwhile, down in Juneau, the excitement never stops:

Unexplained ring of smoke witnessed in Lemon Creek area
A ring of smoke was spied in the area of Costco early Wednesday afternoon.

Norman B. Flood Junior saw it and took photos with his cell phone camera.

He was on Glacier Highway driving to town with his wife and granddaughter when they noticed the smoke ring going up.

He pulled over by the bus stop in the area and took two photos. He said he was aiming his camera over the Wells Fargo Bank there when he took the pictures.

He said the ring grew from small to probably over a hundred feet, according to his guess

Someone should ask Murkowski how Rethuglican attempts to redefine rape and outlaw abortions creates jobs. I missed the answer to this question the last hundred or so times it has been asked.

    • merrycricket says:

Why, that’s a smoke signal if I ever saw one. It says “Send help! We are sick of these republican idiots!”

  4. mike from iowa says:

Brian’s parents should be real proud. He looks like he swings both ways.

  5. PaPa23 says:

Seems to me that Brian is taking quite a liking to the Midwest lately. Perhaps he’ll start spending his winters down here, it is usually a little warmer than home.

  6. Mo says:

Don’t miss Wickersham’s Conscience, he’s dug up a couple of amazing graphics:

I am in readers heaven. Finishing up “The Lies of Sarah Palin” and have my copy of “Blind Allegiance” waiting in the wings!

Thatcrowwoman-between your bouts of wisdom and history and Mag the Mick and her tales of absolute wonder with the Duke, you provide me with more fun and entertainment that I have ever seen. Since this is an open thread I want to mention that the U of Iowa Hospitals informed me they have my medical records on line and I was free to check them out pretty much whenever. Probably a good thing I did as a radical mastoidectomy-left ear-in 1969 was reported as a radical mastectomy in 1968. Three of my back operations have gone missing, they think an anti-biotic ear drop is for my eyes and some surgical dates were typed in wrong. Oh yeah,my primary care physician’s clinic has me listed as Female. I’m torn between laughing and crying.except it is really insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Keep right on smiling-we’ll figure out a way to help you save your magical forest.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Perhaps they sent you Ike from Miowa’s records! Now that would be a breach of privacy!

    • leenie17 says:

If they can’t figure out the difference between boys and girls, perhaps it’s time to look for a new PCP!

    • thatcrowwoman says:

Yikes. Maybe we should all take a look at our records! Who knows what we might find out about ourselves, eh?

I totally get the laughing&crying conundrum. Grandma Shorty, of blessed memory, said, “If you’ve got a choice between laughing and crying, go ahead and laugh.” I cried pretty much non-stop for the first couple of days, but the shock has worn off and the world is still turning. We do what we can, prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

That was perfect-0 we need more chickens! (HAHHHAH)… But me thinks Brian does have alot more fun!

    • bubbles says:

that link is what American Exceptionalism is all about. we are a nation of giants! chickens that is.
      teehee.

    • Funniest thing ever.

Of course, I have some odd things in my yard, but hubby just sighed when I bought the last one – a hot pink flamingo with Mickey Mouse ears that we found at Epcot when we were there in May. I love it – and I think he does too.

      • merrycricket says:

I have a pair of pink flamingos courtesy of thatcrowwoman. πŸ™‚ I also have a solar humming bird that lights up at night and changes colors. I have been know to place strange looking yard art in my kids yard. They love it.

    • leenie17 says:

Thanks a lot, merrycricket. I was sitting alone in my house, laughing so loud with tears running down my face that my neighbors, no doubt, think I’ve finally lost my mind completely.

And now I need a giant chicken for my yard. Just…thanks a whole lot.

  10. mike from iowa says:

Out of morbid curiousity, what kind of hazardous duty pay does Brian receive for encounters shown in pictures one and three. Brian-I got some bad news for you fella. Since you are popping up in peculiar places all over the internet, your significant other is patiently waiting at home with her rolling pin. Should she ask if you want one lump or two, pray that she is referring to sugar for your tea.

    • thatcrowwoman says:

      hahahaha caw Caw CAW

Brian is an equal opportunity, inclusive kind of charming ambassador from The Mudflats. I get all kinds of vicarious vacations and thrills from his adventures around the planet.

Hey, Brian? How’s about you join me in New Orleans for a librarian flash mob?

wink and a nod to leenie from this librarian, also, too.
Come sit at my table anytime, and I’ll try to be on my best behavior. Mama tried. If she told me once, she told me a hundred times, “Just because it pops into your head, that doesn’t mean it has to pop right out of your mouth!” Sometimes my “filters” work better than others, but the blurt impulse is so strong…

More than an inch of rain overnight! Still cloudy and good chances for more rain for the next few days. The frogs are still having quite a sing-a-long, and the birds! The birds are reveling in the misty moisty morning* πŸ™‚

      • jimzmum says:

Oh, I am so glad you have rain! I have been suggesting that our rain head to you guys, and maybe it finally listened.

      • merrycricket says:

Doesn’t it seem more wonderful when iyou get a good over night soaker after a long dry spell? the air smells better and the noise from the birds and frogs is like a family reunion. You don’t know exactly how much you missed it until it comes back.

        • mike from iowa says:

In NW Iowa(the beautiful South of Minnesota) how can we miss the rain when it won’t go away? I am begging Arizona to sue Guv Braindead for hogging all the water. Our rivers and cricks are bank full and lots of crop fields are buried under water. Where I am we have had close to ten inches in the last two weeks and more predicted for the weekend.

      • leenie17 says:

        Hey, TCW!

Today was the last day of school for the kiddos. Sixth grade moving up was this morning so, after shedding a few tears and sharing a few hugs, we patted them gently on their heads and sent them off to the big wide world of middle school. Some of them we will miss more than others. πŸ˜‰

Then, at the end of the day, the staff all lined up at the edge of the parking lot and waved as the buses pulled out…and then did the Happy Dance all the way back into the building!

Tomorrow is for final meetings, packing up and cleaning up (which I will hopefully get finished so I don’t have to go back on Monday). Then I’m off to the local library to take out a few new books which I will spend Saturday enjoying. Maybe I’ll do some gardening because it’s supposed to be really nice that day, but maybe I’ll just be a bed slug and read allll day. Somehow, I’m guessing that plan would meet with your approval!

        • thatcrowwoman says:

I love that waving and happy dancing part of the school year. πŸ™‚

Cool! So many wonderful people. Brian, I am sure you had a great time and learned a lot.

Another day of waiting around. I must say, I usually like staying home and piddling around. However, when I have to stay home to wait for people who NEVER show up, especially after spending six months staying at home while recovering, I am on the verge of miffed.

Still no word from anybody, so I guess today will be about the same.

I am reading a lot of interesting coverage of Netroots, and that silly wanna-be thing held at the same time. Bunch of eejuts.

Thank you, AKM for your coverage, and thank you to all who kept the door open here. I have been lax in commenting, but I have been reading.

Sweet and FUNNY! Brian, you represent us Mudpups like the best Diplomat ever!
