I know I have a segment on The Shannyn Moore show with the name, but THIS is what I call “Thursdays in the Mud.”
LOL – Go, Buf!
This reminds me of my parents’ shih tzu that always insisted on rolling around in the dirt and dust that was their Arizona back yard. It drove my mom crazy.
(their other dog was so sensitive and tempermental that she refused to use unfamiliar grass or territory – made trips rather interesting)
My family had a mixed-breed dog while I was growing up that was all girly. She was white with an appropriately girly pink nose and absolutely hated getting wet or dirty. In the bad weather, we would let her out in the backyard and she would actually tiptoe back and forth, avoiding as much of the messy stuff as she possibly could. It was definitely a hoot to watch her.
I can’t imagine her ever being in the same state of muddy bliss as our good friend Buf!
Hi all–breaking news: New York has legalized gay marriage!! Truly a breakthrough for those who stand on the side of love. I am proud of my state and of the Republican state senators who broke rank and voted with their consciences. Woo hoo!
Bravo!!
Fantastic news, happy historical day for New York! Congrats.
You beat me to the post by one minute. I’m happy for my fellow NYers, and even happier that our rent regulations have been extended for four years (I live in a rent-stabilized tenement).
OTOH, the news for rank-and-file workers in NJ couldn’t be much worse. Here’s Thom Hartmann on the subject (and a few others):

My senator, not surprisingly, was not one of those who voted yes, but the Republican from the next district over did. Senator Mark Grisanti from Buffalo voted no in 2009 when the legislation was proposed but changed his vote to yes tonight. He explained that, as a Catholic, he struggled with the decision, but as a lawyer, he could not justify denying people their civil rights. He said he also talked to many people and did a lot of research which convinced him to change his vote. Wish there were more Republicans who thought about legislation that way!
Fantastic kinetic art———

Great link! Thanks and wow!
Dogs are wonderful. I spent most of this afternoon in the company of our two beagles. On our fifth cloudy, rainy day, we all napped. I also read and did some embroidery. Nothing helps one snooze better than a couple of snoring beagles!
AP is reporting an earthquake (7.4 magnitude) off the Aleutian Islands. I certainly hope that that’s all it will be – with no injuries and nothing worse in the offing.
The beagles just galloped to the front door. Our car came down the street; my husband is back from his afternoon stint at the local movie – volunteer in concessions.
Awww, what a happy Buff!

Tom the Dancing Bug is so much fun!
Does anyone know if Palin will actually sit on the jury. A number of people are called for jury duty, However, not all are picked.
I don’t think she would be considered a “peer” by many. If she’s been selected for petit jury, whether she is chosen or not will be a matter of how many jury cases they have during her month of service, which groups are chosen to be potential jurors for those cases, how many of those are eliminated for conflicts of interest or other reasons, then whether or not they have enough by the time they get to her. At least that’s how it was the last time I was chosen. Grand jury was three months of one to two days a week last time I served, and if I remember correctly, they just gave everybody a number and drew until they found enough without good reasons to be excused.
Miss Mocha and Mr. Burrito look like that when they finish romping at the Cherry Creek State Dog Park. I learned the hard way to cover my RAV seats with fitted sheet and towels… can’t scrub it in the bath tub.
Heh heh.
There is an actual Cherry Creek that flows through Denver, isn’t there and do you happen to know what kind of condition it is in? Seems to me Denver was once called Cherry Creek for some reason, back when the world was a little younger.
mike, the cherry creek residential area is considered the best real estate in denver…the creek still runs.
Cherry Creek is very full, due to the way above normal snow pack starting to melt. There are lots of Cherry Creeks- gorgeous houses around Cherry Creek Country Club, pricey real estate surrounds Cherry Creek Shopping District… the State Park is in Aurora- east suburb; Cherry Creek flows a long way.
It’s wet dog season. A wet dog is a happy dog. My girl (part Lab, part golden, maybe something else) loves to roll in stinky stuff. Good thing about a blonde dog, you know she’s dirty before she gets too close and I’ve found Dawn dish soap works well on most stinks. Rotten fish will take multiple applications – and then time. And maybe more applications of Dawn.
You are so right….a wet dog is a happy dog. Mine loves to get in the mud and in his younger days would seek out the stinkiest messes to roll around in. Dawn dish soap is good but tomato juice also helps with the odor. Hubs told me once I must really love seattledog because of all the work and cleaning I do daily to let him be who he wants to be.
gotta love the feel of mud squiching between toes.
did when i was a wee tot and even to this day.
(is that too weird?)
We’ve a dog that likes a mud caked body. She will roll and roll in the mud every single time we hose her off. Then she sits on the porch, all muddy, peering into the window, wanting inside.
sniff, sniff, I missed muddy Thursday … sigh, maybe next week.
Awww just the other night I had to scrub the mud off my feet before going to bed. I had spent the day weeding in the veggie garden.
Sounds ever so familiar, both the weeding and scrubbing :-))
((((((ugavic)))))))
miss you, i do
Now THAT’s what a real mud puppy looks like!!
So that mud, does it rinse right off? or is vigorous scrubbing required?
I spent many happy hours splashing in the puddles and sliding down a muddy hill and making artfully decorated mudpies with my little sisters and our neighborhood friends faraway and long ago. We’d rinse off using a hose by the basement door before we’d go inside…which didn’t always preclude a bath before bedtime.
Off to New Orleans with thousands of American librarians.
Thousands.
hahahahahaha caw Caw CAW
Happy is holding down the fort, with an assist from Leroy, the baddest rooster in the forest.
I’m not taking my laptop, and I don’t own a cellphone, but I’ll try to stop by via internet cafe. If not, I’ll be home Tuesday and we’ll catch up then.
Hey, AKM, many thanks for sparking the walk down my muddy memory lane.
You’re the Best.
L’Shalom,

Have a wonderful time.
Think of a library, or a roundup of librarians as among the few places you will never EVER see a Palin.
Thank you for what you do.
Safe travels, and enjoy the Big Easy… 😉
Crowwoman – you just made me bring up one of my best memories. When I was in third grade, all I wanted to do was hang out at the library. My glamorous older sister was getting all kinds of awars for sports, and my baby brother had just become the youngest person to pass the Red Cross swimming test that would allow him access into the big pool. All I wanted to do was read. One day I approached the formidable library lady and told her, in a small but polite voice, that I had read every book in the children’s section and I knew I wasn’t old enough for an adult card, but could I please just read books in the adult section if I promised to treat them carefully and put them back when I was done. She gave me the once-over and demanded to see my library card. When she walked away with it, I burst into tears, thinking I was being eighty-sixed for life. She came right back with my adult card, and told me to start out with “Jane Eyre”. It was like getting the keys to the kingdom. I still recall my exhilaration and delight at being able to check out MORE than three books, for longer than one week! She opened doors for me that are still wide open today. Thank you, formidable library lady, and thank you Crowwoman and all your peers.
wasn’t that a wonderful time, mag…the 3rd grade year.
every summer i would go to the library, check out the book allotment for that day, read every one of them overnight, and get another batch the next day.
where i lived in texas there was no children/adult card. just the one.
i was almost obsessive in my need to read up to 4 books a day.
i also spent my high school days in class holding my newest book under the edge of the desk, reading madly.
i don’t know how i managed to get the grades i did.
Your third grade sounds like mine. I had the good fortune of living a block away from our little library and was allowed to walk there any time I wanted to. It was always with a giant stack of books each way! AKM
I absolutely loved the slightly musty smell in that old building with the creaky wood floors, the stacks of books, and the quiet coolness after the summer heat. Nothing better than getting caught up in a good book.
Wait — there’s a THIRD grade? Why didn’t anybody tell me?
They woulda’, if you’da finished second grade, slip! 😉 <3
ALA? Have fun. Though why NOLA in the summer is beyond me…!
TCW- a good thick mudpack does wonders for roosters,if you want help in removing pin feathers.
Why can’t some locals show up at the Courthouse and wait for Palin’s arrival, and then go inside and see her sitting in the jury box. Show up every day and see if Palin does the same. Can’t someone confirm this “story” of jury duty.
It seems like it would be pretty easy to poke a hole in this lie.
When we took my grandpuppy fishing, she was a happy girl. She chased her tennis ball all around the beach, dug holes in the sand, and afterwords, pooped sand for three days. She loves the beach!
Oh, too funny. Does she do that often? 🙂
