the music shared on the this thread and others in the past few days has opened windows into your souls’ home.
music has the power to move and heal and comfort. i know this. i thank you with all that is in me.
we all need each other in this life. i have found such love and acceptance and yes friendships that will last me for the rest of my life and beyond on this blog.
all of the moderators and administrators are responsible for whatever is done here. i am only one of many. my colleagues all worked hard and continue to do so. each one can tell their own stories about Michael and his affect on them and every story will be different. and every story will be wonderful.

Can we just clear something up?

Sarah Palin does not now nor has she ever had a “journalism degree”.
She has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Idaho.

University of Idaho B.A. in Communication Studies
Department name: College of Letters Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Psychology and Communication Studies

University of Idaho B.A. in Journalism
Department name: College of Letters Arts and Social Sciences, School of Journalism and Mass Media

For Palin to state that she is a “journalis¬t” is to state a gross exaggerati¬on, to be generous.

    @ 5 Ivan, 5.1 fishingmamma, and also too @ 17.1 / 17.2 seattlefan —

When it comes to the debt ceiling and dysfunctional government, y’all have been keeping in mind, haven’t you, what will cause the *most* turmoil 12 – 16 months from now?

The way I understand it, Boehner et al will agree to a debt ceiling raise *now*, BUT the strings they’ll attach to the agreement will call for some immediate off-setting cuts AND for temporary solutions to the debt crisis between now and the start of the next presidential term.

POTUS, from what I gather, is calling for a raising of the debt ceiling, some immediate off-setting cuts, and starting NOW, *immediate implementation* of solutions to the ever-present debt crisis. He’s also calling for those cost-cutting solutions to be implemented whenever they are discovered on an on-going basis…immediately as they are discovered.

To my way of thinking, Boehner et al are doing their damndest to have a huge advantage in 2012 by yammering [between now and then] at the voter that the nation still has a huge debt crisis; it’s pure politics. POTUS, on the other hand, is trying to get a handle on the debt crisis by actually doing something about it. now! Sure, he’s looking at it from a down-the-road political standpoint, too, but, unlike the RepubTeaBaggers, he’s not holding the nation hostage as he plays at political posturing.

So, yeah, when it comes to the debt ceiling and the national debt being worked on in DC, don’t look at what’s best for the nation, look at what’s best for the Republicans and Tea Baggers in Nov 2012. Gads, but the RTBs make me furious with their ‘games’! beth.

  8. Lacy Lady says:

Bristol Palin is on the Dr. Drew show tonight——talking about her new book.
I have never heard such crap. I don’t believe a word she is telling him.
I didn’t realize she was a straight A student. I didn’t think she even finished school?
And Levi wasn’t a good father to their child?——and why she lost–Dancing with the stars?
Attracted women (like her) carry a special burden??? Whew!!

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Bristol is a poster child for why there should be national standards for grading and graduation if someone like her can get straight A’s.

Can you imagine what a Wasilla High C student must be like? Or maybe they didn’t buy their grades.

    • carol says:

Yes, she did finish high school. I remember pictures of her in her graduation gown holding the baby. Hmm, if the Quitter does announce for, wonder if she’ll put her own college transcripts out for viewing as many “demanded” of the Obamas. Bristol has put herself into the public eye and if she’s making statements like she was a “straight A” student, she should not be surprised to be challenged and should be prepared to back up her statements. Oh, wait. Mom doesn’t have to so why should she.

      • ibwilliamsi says:

I think that Bristol probably DID get straight A’s when she was home schooled. There’s no way they’d tell the truth about the miseducation of Bristol Palin.

    • Writing from Alaska says:

Rex Butler has put up a ‘rebuttal’ to her comments on the show on his FaceBook page. He seems peeved.

I need the company of my mudpup friends. I just got an e-mail that said the symbol of the Presidency had been changed from an eagle to a skunk (picture inserted). Under picture: “half black, half white and stinks”. I’m sitting here in a blue funk, saddened and disappointed that a good friend would be that full of hate.

Called my nephew who is a retired editor/reporter, and he said he has not seen this much hate since he was covering the KKK back in the 60’s. According to him, same rhetoric. Only back then it was the Dems that were the rads: i.e George Wallace, et al.

Just wanted to say thanks to AKM and all of you for keeping me on a steady keel. We’re supposed to get rain tomorrow – I’ll believe it when I see it! Keep cook everyone!

    • seattlefan says:

I join you in your “blue funk” and will add that email is awful. I get those kind of emails all the time from some of my relatives (some even worse than that one). I no longer open their emails and have sent a very polite request to them all to take me off their distribution list. I’ve never seen this much craziness, hatred, blatant racism and outright political division and I have been around long enough to know these are scary times. Also, I have never seen our government this dysfunctional and I blame that on all of the above, but mostly the veiled racism of the tea party which has hijacked the Republican Party.

      • seattlefan says:

I should have mentioned the RW religious fanatics and our Corporate owned politicians. Those two factors are right up there if not at the top.

    • bubbles says:

      (((Tigerwine)))
after Norway is there anyone who still thinks that right wing ideology is harmless and can be tolerated by any sane and rational human?
your friend either never knew the kind of person you are or doesn’t care. i expect she knows now.♥

  12. Zyxomma says:

Thanks to TCW, AKM, and everyone else who posted songs today, but all I feel like hearing is my dear, departed Amy Winehouse. I’m sad that she joined the Forever 27 club, but OTOH, she’s in grand company for having done so. BBC had a great little tribute, with photos from her youth and a photo of her as an extra in her teens, as well as her Grammy performances from London (during the fires in Camden Town), where she schooled all those Americans in how to be a soul singer. Amy, I hope you left behind tapes from your new album, and I hope they get produced into a 3rd CD.

Am I wrong for finding some small amount of satisfaction in this story?

“The Undefeated, the much-hyped Palin documentary, bombed during its second week in theaters, bringing in just $24,000 in ticket sales across 14 screens. The movie’s per theater average, touted as a relative bright spot by promoters, plummeted from $6,513 to $1,713, according to estimates by the industry website Box Office Mojo.”

    • Baker's Dozen says:

How many of those were just trying to get out of the heat?
One year, we raised ticket sales to “Catwoman” because our house was being built, we were living in a tent, and it was over 104. We would have walked out of the movie except it was so lovely and cool, and we’d seen all the other movies playing on other unbearably hot days.

Thanks TCW, I love this one! I’d heard it before but never knew who sang it.

As I was listening, the rusty chains and gears and levers in my mind starting working and it occurred to me how great this song would be for my kiddos at school. We’re often asked to perform songs in sign language for various events around the city, and it’s always a struggle to find something appropriate, uplifting and that would lend itself to signing. This song would be PERFECT! Not only is it a positive message, but I could get really creative with the whole ‘two hands’ thing.

Hmmmmmm…. (smell the smoke yet?) 🙂

“Debt ceiling negotiators think they’ve hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public’s unwillingness to let go of benefits”

Wait. I thought this was a problem because republicans refuse to increase revenue. Our President has been willing to negotiate. The Republicans keep walking away from the table. Creating a “super Congress?” To do the job you were hired to do? Are you SERIOUS!!!

  25. leenie17 says:

I should have know better than to watch some of the Sunday morning political shows this morning because my blood pressure is only now starting to subside, several hours later.

WHY don’t any of the interviewers refute (and yes, I used that correctly!) the Republicans when they blame the President and Democrats for being obstructionists, as if the proposals from Congress were anything close to being a balanced compromise like 70%+ of the American people want?

‘I’m going to propose an agreement that gives me EVERYthing I want and NOthing you want but if you turn it down you’re just a big meanie and not playing fair. And if I get my panties in a twist and storm out of a meeting where we’re discussing a proposal that makes us BOTH give a little, that’s just being reasonable and cooperative.’

One of the idiots this morning was complaining that the POTUS was threatening to veto a short term bill that would start this whole mess all over again in 6 months. He claimed that there had been short term bills approved many time in the past. What he neglected to mention was that the Congress had always passed these bills cleanly and quickly and didn’t take the economic stability of the country, and possibly the world, hostage to their negotiations.

If I, with no education or experience in political journalism, can think of these points, why don’t the people in the suits think of them and, more importantly, ASK them???

    Grrrrrrrr….. 🙁

    • merrycricket says:

I’m at work today so I missed all that. I guess there is some good in working on Sunday.

    • Polarbear says:

Well said. On this Sunday, with so much of the country suffering, there are those Christians among us who pray for wisdom for our leaders, and for compassion for the poor, the sick, the elderly, and the children, just as Christians have prayed for centuries. And then there are other Christians who pray very, very differently… almost warlike. The 20% or so of our population who are extreme evangelists seem to have acquired political influence far out of proportion to their numbers. There are millions of solid middle class families out there, jobless and scared, and rightfully worried that these right-wing evangelists are pushing our country into an even worse second Great Depression. If you are out in the grocery stores in our town, you can see economic refugees from the midwest right now, hoping to find jobs in Alaska and stay. They are desperate. These are hard times.

    • Irishgirl says:

“Vince Cable has attacked leading US Republican politicians for holding up a deal to reduce US government debt.

Speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show, the business secretary called them “a few right-wing nutters in the American Congress”.

Unless a deal on Capitol Hill is agreed before 2 August, the US Treasury could run out of money to pay its bills.

Mr Cable said it presented a bigger risk to the global markets than the continuing debt woes in the eurozone.”
