Guess who Alaska’s senators sided with? Time to get corporate money out of politics.

    Nasty graph. Reality sucks.

Since I just moved up here in July and didn’t get my car until September I have a question. Are the drivers of Anchorage always this crazy? I realize everyone is coming out of hibernation from the long winter and the sun is out but some of these drivers make me nervous. They fly down the road like they are in the Indy 500 not paying any attention the road conditions. Slushy roads and standing puddles doesn’t mean go faster. And the puddles along the side of the road I feel sorry for the pedestrians how do they not get soaked everytime they go outside.

Yep, the drivers here are always this crazy. Sometimes more so. Don’t go out during the full moon.

Watched the movie ‘The Stoning of Soraya M’ last night. Still disturbed. Thinking in my mind: “these people are barbaric” and then, with my next breath, wondering how close to the same attitude some of our politicians are. We are not so very far ahead of this as we think these days. I thought to myself, if only all of the women in that town had stood in front of the woman buried to her waist in the dirt and said “you will have to stone all of us to get to her”. And that, my sisters, is what we may need to do in this country as well.

Shohreh Aghdashloo is one of my favorite actors (I love her voice, she’s been amazing in many things like “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” and the short-lived TV show, “Flash Forward”). I agree that all too many of our politicians and countrymen are as stuck in the Dark Ages as the townspeople in “The Stoning of Soraya M.”

Our best recourse is to GET OUT THE VOTE. We don’t want to wake up in a theocracy or a (more) fascist state. We have to live from our hearts, speak our hearts’ truth, and walk our talk to the greatest degree possible.

In this November’s election, the votes of women will play a crucial role.

      • LoveMyDogs says:

Yes, but what about all of the laws that are being passed BEFORE November????

I found a blind date for my asparagus just for this evening(iowa time). Found a cute little rib-eye and some yukon gold spuds just itching for a threesome on my old grill around sundown-weather permitting. Had a nice rain last night which is just aces for my garden and for most of this one day,I don’t want to think about politics or pols to ruin my dinner dates. Don’t know about youse guys, but I plan to enjoy and savor this one day. As some durn furriners say it-chow.

    • UgaVic says:

I have been out watching the snow melt over my asparagus patch, hoping for some sprouts:-)

Enjoy that grill, it will be a bit before our salmon fillets can snuggle up on our’s but we know the desire to just enjoy the event!!

    • Lacy Lady says:

What time will you be serving?

    • slipstream says:

Better set a few extra places, Mike, looks like some of us ‘flatters will be there for dinner.

      • mike from iowa says:

Chow couldn’t wait for sundown although the short wait was well worth it. With some decent sunshine tomorrow you could probably all get fed fresh asparagus. BYOB(beef).

    • leenie17 says:

Never had fresh asparagus until a few years ago. The only kind I had ever tried was the green mushy slime from a jar that my father used to eat when I was a kid…disgusting! No wonder I thought I hated it.

Tried some steamed a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. Had some just the other night. Yum!

I’ll be there in a little while with dessert!

Since we are talking about food—-I found this receipe on the internet today.
My grandmother made these Easter dolls for all the grandkids for our Easter dinner.

Very cute and what nice memories!

I’ll be making holuptsi (stuffed cabbage, Ukrainian style) next weekend for Easter. Since I mix raw meat with the hot rice, I can’t taste it to see if the spices are correct, so I have to depend on smell. I always know when I’ve got it right when my kitchen smells like my grandmother’s house! What’s really amazing is that I remember that smell so clearly, even though I was only three when she sold the farm and stopped doing the Easter cooking.

(A colleague wanted me to write down the recipe so she could make it for her Ukrainian grandmother, but I couldn’t figure out how to translate ‘smells like Grandma’s house’ into cooking measurements!)

          • Lacy Lady says:

I think it is great to pass down all these recipes. We make another for Easter that ivolves stuffing a casing with diced ham, green onions, eggs, rasins.and cornmeal,—and then placed in boiling water.
It is then sliced to eat.
I would make this, but it is hard to find natual casings.

          • mike from iowa says:

If you aren’t too particular you could probably pick up some slightly used nat-gas well casings from some fracker. Just be sure to wash them out before stuffing. You may have to boil them for a year or two to get the desired softness. Good luck.

Is anyone else here as bothered by the offensive ads coming from Manner and Servo as I am? And No, I won’t be signing Mark’s Birthday card this year. Oops that’s Pervo, not Servo (stupid phone). And Minnery, not Manner.

  7. Alaska Pi says:

    it’s not just corporate money.
It’s the un-inpsected underlying philosophy that allowing developers of many stripes lots of incentives to do their thing will automatically result in lifting up all those around it.
we haved watched as that dumbity worked itself out in multiple crises the last 30 years and yet we keep electing people who believe it is true and slap us back when we question it all.
    so it is also us.

So we can make all the satiric videos we want, but the puppet masters are still the ones with their fingers on the strings?

  9. UgaVic says:

Agree!! Saw where even our D Senator voted to give the oil guys tax breaks! Not happy.
