The Gathering of Veterans is Saturday in Palmer!
The Gathering of Veterans is open to all, especially veterans from all eras, as well as their families and friends. There will be tables where organizations will provide information and assistance. There will also be an incredible barbecue, a killer country band and some important speakers, including Senator Mark Begich and Senator Lisa Murkowski.
The Gathering is also a fundraiser for Veterans Aviation Outreach, a 501 C3 organization of veterans and pilots who assist other veterans all over the State of Alaska.

This is a response to USARMYVET’s comments about Maurice Bailey: from one US Army Veteran to another friend. Like him or not, ornery or not, he CARES and DOES for his fellow Veterans in need. You’re right, he’s not always polite and can be pretty hard-headed, but at the end of the day he gets the job done. He’s not all talk. You obviously served and defended the right to free speech and we all thank you for that. I was once told by a pretty smart fellow that another persons opinion of me is none of my business. I think I like that. You are fully entitled to your opinion. We are not.
If you can’t be nice perhaps you should find something more useful to do with your time thant down grade a fellow Soldier. Maybe you might want to get on board with Veterans & friends who are helping each other and making a positive difference in the Community. The Valley Veterans meet each Wednesday at the Mat-Su Resort at noon and work to make that positive difference-not just talk about it.
Hope to see you there Brother. Fraternally yours. Jim

I heartily second your comment!
Great post by Shannyn! What are you waiting for, guv?
There have been veterans in my family for every war and conflict since WWI. My support is with all veterans everywhere, and I whole-heartedly support The Gathering today. My hat is off to all of you, with deep appreciation and thanks.
Maurice Bailey the organizer of this event and he is not welcoming of all veterans. If a veteran disagrees with him about anything he “writes them off” and says very bad things about them. He is a bad guy and is angry and mean. He is vindictive. I don’t think it is a good idea to support him, but I appreciate anybody who really does support the vets Like Senator Lisa Murkowski!
Senator Lisa Murkowski had major surgery last week. This has not prevented her from attending functions she finds important. Most people would use their recovery time as an excuse not to attend something. The fact that she has made it to several events since her surgery tells you a lot about how she feels about her state and its needs.
We’re still waiting for Sarah to sign SB89 allowing the Alaska Territorial Guard to receive benefits.

Hopefully there will be even more people there than at the wonderful event hosted by this group last year at the Wasilla airport and plenty of people will donate generously to the Veterans Aviation Outreach group. They are a selfless bunch much deserving of our support.
Thanks, AKM for putting the info out there.
What a wonderful thing to do! I’d love to come.
My hubby is a vet, and we’d be there if we could.
Big thanks!
I thank veterans every day. They put themselves on the line for us and our freedoms. I just don’t think that every war they’re sent to is actually to defend our country.
So thanks, AK veterans. You’re the greatest
Wish I could be there to support them, in honor of the now passed on ones from my family. Any Alaskans who go, please say thank you for me.
Oops, I fat-fingered “Veterans” ….. AKM help!
Please give to Verterans Aviation Outreach, their good works in taking aid packages to rural Alaska is commendable!
