Open Thread — Fish Lips (Why There Is No Garden Post)
Yes, it’s that time of year again! Morrigan (holding the fish), Josh (in the back) and I (taking the photo) didn’t get back from the sunny, glorious beach at the mouth of the Kasilof until late Saturday night. Every time I tried processing the almost-400 photos on Sunday, I kept falling asleep at the computer. The three of us slept off-and-on most of the day.
I’m still exhausted.
I’ll do a post about the fishing trip (and the results) in the next several days. I got some great photos from Soldotna AND because we made some stops on the way home. Portage was clear and cloudless…how often does that happen?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/25/louisiana-students-loch-ness-monster-disprove-evolution_n_1624643.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular Oh Boy!-good thing people can use public monies to send their kids to private Kristian schools to get indoctrinated in Looserana. Otherwise they might be forced to deal with realities like science and geology and school lunches and people who are different than themselves. Nessie is real and was the second gunman on the grassy knoll in Dallas,November 1963.
Our non-political,impartial.tipped to the right, activist rwnj Soopreme Court decided not to revisit their Citizens United decision travesty thereby forcing Montana to follow the court allowing unrestricted Korporate spending in elections. Montana’s state law prevented unlimited spending by Korporations because of bribery and corruption. Nutter Mitch Mconnell, chief rwnj troll from Hell filed an amicus brief in favor of Korporations. I guess that means that rwnj favor states rights over the federal government except Korporate rights trump even states rights.Stay tuned as any day nutters will declare god an agent of the devil and will demand Obama be burnt at the kosher stake for only being half Black. ps I have it on good authority that all rwnj are born ass first so their ungrateful parents can kiss their butts from the git-go.
UH OH…that crazy old lake lucille lunatic is at it again with her ‘death panels’ . Yep, after being award with the prestigious “lie of the year” Sarah Palin is trying to bring them (and herself) back into the forefront, this time claiming that a provision that didn’t even make it into the Affordable Care Act was going to create those pesky people killers:
“She said Monday that her inflammatory comments in 2009 were about the Independent Payments Advisory Board (IPAB), a group of healthcare experts tasked with cutting Medicare’s payments to doctors if the program’s spending grows faster than a certain rate. ”
The article points out that her original ‘death panels’ remarks made no mention of the IPAB but did make mention of doctor’s receiving payment for end-of-life counciling.

(She does know, doesn’t she, that the SCOTUS has already made their decision –have even written it up, all legal-like — they just haven’t announced *what* that decision is. Thursday is when they’ll do that. Is she possesed of the delusion that *her* two-cents, now, are going to make it into their decision? Gads, what a narcissitic adz! “All of them, Charlie.” beth.)

Bubbles!!!!!!!!!!!! Long time no hear!!!!! Glad to have you back! 🙂
(((((((( bubbles ))))))))), welcome back! We’ve missed you.
Hi ya! I have missed you too!
I have been having the same ootchy difficulty. Could read, but not post. Ah, well. Reading is good. I have two bushels of green beans staring me in the face needing to be frozen today. Cut off ten dozen ears of corn for the freezer on Monday night. Everything is so early! Tomatos have been in for two weeks already. That is just nuts. So, next week means it is going to be tomato week around here.
http://wcfcourier.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/few-iowa-felons-pursue-voting-rights/article_63685a1a-beaa-11e1-b85a-001a4bcf887a.html Iowa’s Guv Braindead issued an executive order his first day in office that makes it nearly impossible for convicted felons in good standing to regain their right to vote. Iowa, under Dems made it fairly easy for felons to re-integrate into Iowa society. I was not aware until today that Braindead had done this.
par for the course Mike. the idiots abound!
I think Gov Braindead is related to the Gov of Ariz. It wouldn’t surprise me if she issued an order for all Latinos in the State of Ariz to wear a yellow star. They call themselves the supreme court? What’s next?
Have you seen the latest on Guv Braindead?
Iowa’s King, Branstad Call for State Version of Ariz. Law
Two of Iowa’s top Republicans say they would support a state law similar to Arizona’s allowing police authorities to check the immigration status of people they stop, even as immigrants rallied at the state Capitol Monday urging rejection of the idea.
“You know, if I get stopped, they’re going to ask for my driver’s license,” Republican Gov. Terry Branstad said Monday, according to the Des Moines Register. “I don’t think it’s inappropriate to ask somebody for identification of who they are, whether it’s a driver’s license or whether it’s other legal papers.”
Likewise, Iowa U.S. Rep. Steve King — a leading national voice on more restrictive immigration policies — said he hopes Iowa will pass a status check law as well in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling upholding that provision of the Arizona immigration statute.
“I think that Iowa could, and likely should, pass the provision [of the Arizona law] that stands,” King said in an interview with the Register. “I’m pleased that the most important component was, at least for now, upheld by the Supreme Court.”
The comments from the two Republicans came as immigrant advocates rallied at the Iowa Capitol urging lawmakers to reject attempts to pass similar legislation, the Register reported.
“I think we need to send a message to the Iowa legislature that we don’t want any kind of law in Iowa like this,” said Sandra Sanchez of the American Friends Service Committee in Des Moines. “I think that Iowans have more common sense and Iowans are fair people in their hearts
Guess they didn’t get it—–the way I understand it, the supreme court knocked down this section of the Arizona law.
If Braindead or any of his fqamily get stopped it sure as hell won’t be for being dark skinned and having dark hair. Racial profiling should be a thing of the past. There are more Asian immigrants now than Hispanics and no one suggests stopping “Yellow People” and checking their papers.
Ah, summer in Alaska. We can sleep when it gets dark.
WC headed up to Eagle Summit on the Steese Highway to photograph birds. Glorious weather. http://wickershamsconscience.wordpress.com/2012/06/24/birding-pinnell-mountain-trail/

You just can’t beat a beautiful summer day in Alaska.
And sure enough, every year we get one. Some years, two.
Had a beautiful day here in western NY too. Actually, it reminded me of AK with temps in the high 60s…perfect for catching up on all the gardening chores I neglected during the last few weeks of school.
I transplanted a bunch of shrubs (the good kind, not the kind that live in Texas!), planted the last of my veggie and herb seedlings, and cleaned out a whole bunch of weeds. Oh yeah, I also removed the dead mouse from my garage and tossed it in the back bushes…ick, ick, ick!
Another nice day tomorrow and I get to try out my new weed whacker…woo hoo! Hope it doesn’t scare the baby robins in my climbing roses.
Such a wild life I lead!
It is crazy hot and humid here in the St. Louis metro area. All the crops are way early, and now we are verging on drought.
I have been busy canning and freezing already, which means the garage door is open (where I prep because I can be a slob out there and clean it once a day). The wrens are very interested in what I am doing, and spend their days either trying to build a nest in a tarp on a shelf, or criticizing my corn cutter. The cardinals are having a field day pecking at the cobs I toss out onto the side yard for pecking. Who knew cardinals love corn? I wait till after dark to pick up the cobs because those birds are such a delight to watch. The robins are hoping for corn worms, but it is too early.
We’ve seen our used-to-be young hawk a few times this summer. He drops by now and again to fish in the fountain. Still no fish in there, but he hopes things change. Orson the Great Horned Owl is a regular visitor again. About twice a week at three or so in the morning, he is needing a chicken liver. Of course, he is a polite feller, and generally leaves me a squirrel head in the bed of my truck. Ick.
Thank you for your birding pics. I truly love them, and look and read again and again.
Good morning! Went to a wedding reception last night. Amazingly wonderful evening. The bride and her family are originally from Mexico, the groom and his family are from Iraq. The evening celebration was a mix of traditions and music. We even had a belly dancer! A good time was had by all!
http://www.thebunsenburner.com/news/rates-of-sea-level-rise-increasing-faster-on-east-coast-than-globally-report/ Science-the stuff nutjobs don’t believe in- claims sea levels are rising faster on the East coast of Mikey’s America than anywhere else. What could be causing this you ask? Clearly it is the hot air released by rwnj in Washington D.C. which clearly causes global warming and caused the buffalo to die out. D C is in the middle of the “hotspot” of rising sea levels-from North Carolina to Mass. Every year anymore is an election year so the sea will continue to rise as long as nutters keep yapping.
Be very careful talking about rising sea levels on the east coast, Mikey.
In North Carolina, the GOPers are trying to make that radical science-y kind of stuff illegal to discuss, measure or predict. ‘Cause, ya know, if you just close your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and continue to loudly chant, “La la la la la la la la la”, the sea level will just go down again to where it’s supposed to be.
Really, truly! They even said so!
Boy, them oceans is really smart…being able to pick up on what humans say about them, and all, and act accordingly, and all, also. Yup, right smart. (‘though it do seems as if the Adlannic is smarter’n the Passific, ’cause the Adlannic it rising higher and faster. Specially round Norf Carelina it is.) Good idea for the radcles to just stop talking ablut them and this globull warning stuff so they stop rising like the fools say they are rizing. the oceans are wise…like the boogie man in your nightmeres who makes bad things happen because you drempt them in you nightmere. That neds investegation not the bocus stuff about humans causing the earth to heet up. Eleventy-one. beth.
Yuppers…them North Carolina GOOPers won’t believe in that global warming, sea level risin’ nonsense until the water’s lapping on the floor of the state capitol.
Of course, then it will just be that Obammer fella’s fault because he wasn’t doin’ enough drillin’ in the ocean. That’s what’ll REALLY fix the problem…drill some more wells, take out that oil and give the water somewheres ta go. It’s just simple, really.
Can’t figger out why those dang scientist people can’t see what’s right in front of theirs faces..
Obummer drills in the ocean, the water rushes to hell and puts out the fires and then rwnj kristians go back to telling everyone that they get burnt from the fire in a chicken’s comb if they misbehave. And the world comes full circle.
So let me guess,Morrigan is holding a sand tiger shark?
Beach weekend!
Pucker up!
🙂
