“The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” Oscar Wilde
I don’t know exactly who the 666 are that are talking about us, but in this case, I think we definitely need to be talked about more! Have you “liked” the Mudflats’ Facebook page? There are all kinds of links to articles, tidbits about crazy “only in Alaska” news, photos, and graphics to share. And all you have to do is click the like button right over there at the top of the sidebar, and all this will be delivered right to your feed! ———>
Would someone explain to me the definition of “Legitimate Rape”. Maybe my dictionary is out of date.
http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/19/13365269-missouri-republican-legitimate-rape-rarely-causes-pregnancy?lite
I think it’s when all of the men agree that it was rape. Using this definition rape is extremely rare; in fact it practically never happens.
The thought that the Republicans in the House in early 2011 wasted taxpayer time and money trying to “redefine” rape thoroughly disgusted me at the time and continues to do so. How dare a bunch of dirty (youngish and) old men take on such a subject? How could the Republican women allow it? Weren’t they infuriated by it? At the time it was all about federal money being used to pay for abortions for rape victims who would qualify for federal aid. Very little federal money has ever been spent for this but that wouldn’t stop the GOP in its most modern guise.
It’s all part of the reason why I will never, as long as I live, vote for a Republican for any office – federal, state or local. And I’m not shy about telling them that.
Just got this from a friend in Missouri.
Everything I read anymore about these nuts jobs running for office, scares the hell out of me.
I don’t know how any woman could vote for such a vile man. In fact-he’s not a man , but an animal.
” Claire McCaskill’s Republican Senate opponent, Todd Akin, justified his anti-choice views by explaining that victims of “legitimate rape” don’t get pregnant. He commented, “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Please refrain from doing such rhetorical injustice to animals. I propose the proper term to use in referring to right wind lunatics is ‘sewage’. Animals by and large are noble creatures, entitled by the virtue of their intimate participation in the overall ecosystem to a place of some respect. Moreover, humans are animals, albeit endowed with a peculiar ability to wreak havoc and chaos on a scale and with a scope never before seen. I do not want to sound critical, I am just urging accuracy.
US election: Mitt Romney may have breached ethics laws through company linked to Paul Ryan’s brother http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9483845/US-election-Mitt-Romney-may-have-breached-ethics-laws-through-company-linked-to-Paul-Ryans-brother.html
“Mitt Romney may have breached state ethics laws as Governor of Massachusetts by holding a stake in a company that did lucrative work for his administration and was linked to the family of Paul Ryan, a Daily Telegraph investigation has found. “
Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, which I never saw, is on ShoNext! I’m enjoying “Every Sperm is Sacred” right now.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/aug/19/republican-todd-akin-rape-pregnancy?newsfeed=true
Now rwnj “I’m not a doctor and I don’t play one on tv,just in my day job”Senate candidate from Missouri claims “legitimate rape” rarely ends in pregnancy,to justify his stance on denying abortions.
At another blog, a poster gave this from MoveOn. EXCELLENT video that lays out the ‘3-prong’ Repub plan! Please pass it around.
It looks like Romney will stoop to whatever level it takes to win this election.

I’ve only lived in Alaska for year but I have a question. I have seen snow boots in two stores and it is only August. Is it normal to see snow boots this early? I know retail likes to put up stuff really early like Halloween etc but August seems really early to be thinking about snow boots.
It IS normal depending on where in Alaska you live. Termination dust in the mountains soon- a few weeks. 1st snow on the ground in many places north of ANC by mid September.
The time to worry is when shorts show up in the stores before May or north of Southcentral …:-)
I simply refuse to go near Facebook. The movie “Social Network” confirmed my opinion that Facebook is middle-school in the extreme. I like to read certain blogs and I sometimes comment on them but I am not in the least interested in “liking” people or institutions if it means being part of Facebook. Old-fastioned I may be but I don’t tweet and I don’t “do Facebook.”
I do both, but sparingly. I’ve found it a useful way to reconnect with people from my hometown. I moved away a long time ago and my mother moved from there also. I don’t want to go back but I do want to know how people are and where they are. What I have found is that facebook doesn’t have to be all-consumming or intrusive. I limit who is on my friend’s list and sometimes block their posts, especially the ones who only play games or have political views that are completely different than mine. And there are people who have sent me a friend request and I’ve either ignored it or said no if it is someone I don’t care to talk with at all.
For years I saw a whole group of people at Camp Fire day camp, but since we don’t live close to one another, summer was our time to catch up. I consider them to be very dear friends and I want to know how they are. Facebook has been a way to stay in touch with them. It’s much better than getting stuck in a long phone conversation, which I used to do when a friend would call every day. I much prefer to be able to check in on them on-line when I have the time to do itl
It is a weird thing, I’ll agree, but it doesn’t have to be like junior high – which I didn’t like. It all depends on how you use it, just like anything else. But we each should do what makes us happy. (And I “liked” Mudflats a long time ago, btw.)
I love Mudflats dearly but I’d stick pins in my eyes before joining Twitter/Facebook or any other “social media”. It frightens the wits out of me the way youngsters post their most private details on these pages.
Me neither. But I talk about Mudflats in the world of solid flesh. 😉
That was a reply to beaglemom that drifted off course.
I have Never/ever..needed to be ‘liked’..since a strange mental blip..mid 8th grade year. I moved into the wealth of what..me-ness’ was..never looked back. I have lived my life then..at 74 and a half..with..no filters. I may tweak a comment..to as to avoid the bloody ‘ell..out of libel attacks. Like saying I want my second son to cut my tv cable to the bone, so that instead of 500 plus sites..I have the decent speed cable for the comp. and..a thin tv selection. That was brought on by a several ton family new series where rubbing bellys in public..led by a honey of a toddler..has been added to the ..media mix. Paying for endless drivel and mental midgets..is why they can keep adding it. I..refuse. I had the wit to never go to, nor see about becoming any of the ..curr. hotspot comments type areas. I am me, I have a lovely life, chores to be done, on and off the farm and people to speak to, and with..person to person. That good people..is where the lifelines of…community are forged. Facebook exchanges are thin and crispy ..and brittle like the outer onion skins are. They may serve a purpose..but they..’be duff’ my friends..INSTANT Duff!! Look outside your doors this morning..for real people..and of a wide and varying type. Learn..about..Them. Be watchful, or supportive or whatever it is..you each have..within you..to share. Do I..miss the forum..thank you all, who also feel that way. I quite frankly felt we were..perhaps..being denied that venue..so as to keep us all..milling around on the frontpage..for maximum exposure..until the election. As a blog site move..I fully understand that. As a healthy caring move for all, and I mean All..who make this site what it is..I found it..cramping..to the max. We need..our whole body..to become what we each..can be. Not show one face to the world..and hope it..sticks. I need my elbows..or my double chin..and the crepe-y skin on the old arms..all of this ‘package’ mates..is needful..so..yes to the forum..as fast as the plugged lines can be..reamed out..and..I think the level of interest will..rise accordingly..in the flats..as it returns to ALL the areas..that made of it..a healthful gathering spot..in the first place.
I wish The Forum were back online, because this horrible information about hydraulic fracturing for natural gas is a natural for the Fracking thread:
http://www.alternet.org/fracking/toxic-wastewater-dumped-streets-and-rivers-night-gas-profiteers-getting-away-shocking?paging=off
Nothing but nothing is more precious than fresh water. Just try living without it.
I miss the forum, too, especially now that that the campaigns are well underway. Supposedly, it was going to be restored this (almost over) week. I think a lot of members have given up on ever seeing it again. 🙁 I wish we had been warned before it was knocked off so we could make plans, save contact info and try to regroup elsewhere.
It will be back.
Yeah!
Thanks so much Jeanne for providing the forum – we miss it terribly, and I’m sure you know we’re worried about it going into the ether never to return, so your reassurances mean a lot to me, and I’m sure other mudpups.
Maybe when things are back up and running, some kind of mass email can go out, so the tribes can gather again?
In any case, thanks so much – we wait impatiently, but with great hope!
I’m with Alaska Pi in that I don’t do facebook. Is there another way to “like” posts or “like” the website?
Ditto. Like.
is it just me , or is the forum still non-op?
Not just you. *sigh*
I miss the forum, and pray fervently every morning when I click on my old forum bookmark.
I trust it will be back someday.
Please?
Almost 3 weeks without the forum. 🙁
Not just you. I’ve been twitching with withdrawal symptoms for weeks.
Nice quote from digby at Hullabaloo today regarding Romney’s “Just Trust Me” strategy:
“Some rich guy who served one half-hearted term as Governor, belongs to secretive religion, refuses to say what he paid in taxes and has held every conceivable position on every issue, is the last politician on earth who can tell people to quit asking questions and trust him. It’s frighteningly arrogant that he would even try.”
I hope he keeps getting pressed on this issue. I see Ryan is only released two years of his taxes also, but I think Rommney wanted it this way to cover his ass.
You may have heard that Paul Ryan claims to be a fan of Rage Against the Machine (I’m not making this up). Read what band member Tom Morello feels about that (but don’t read the comments unless you feel like wading into newsmax territory):

666 is a number of biblical signifcance.
The naturopath I studied with had a different take on 666. 6 is the atomic number for carbon, and all of earth’s life forms are based on it. His read on it was that 666 being the number of the “beast” means that we are incarnated as carbon-based life forms. Btw, reading Torah (the first five books of what Christians call the Old Testament), ALL numbers have biblical significance — every Hebrew letter has a number. and what we call numerology began as a mystical Hebrew science.
Gads, but I ♥ the Mudflats and ‘pups! — every day, they teach me *at least* one something new. beth.
Met a person today who is a serious contradiction. From Texas, claims to be a scientist (phd in computers) but is also a “fringe science” (mentioned UFOs) advocate. Well, okayish so far, until person said they were active in the Republican party. Oh, also an out of work teacher, let go from last job from budget issues, rails against the requirements for looking for a job (you know, the ones that the Obama administration just worked to let states make the work requirements more flexible – wait, that was welfare, not unemployment – my bad). I changed the subject as quickly as I could, didn’t need to go any further. Surely didn’t want to wander into religion topics, so didn’t even let the conversation go any where, don’t know if it would have gone there, wouldn’t take the chance. Whew, what an experience. Since this is OT and has reference to Facebook. A person I know is vehemently anti-Obama. If it’s bad about Obama, it must be true. She reposts/likes articles that are lies on Facebook. Sometimes I just have to refute them, post the fact checks on my site. When I do that, I find she removes the lie from hers. But she does it again and again and again and sometimes on the same topic. Sad, because other than that, I like her. Ok, enough blather from me.
Exactly one president of the United States had a 6 letter first name, a 6 letter middle name, and a 6 letter last name . . . making him the 666.
Wanna guess who?
Ronald Wilson Reagan, perhaps?
…I realliy miss the forum too, also
Here’s Ronald Reagan, the “patron saint” of today’s conservative movement, sharing his thoughts on the importance of labor unions and collective bargaining in free societies.

http://thepaulryanwatch.blogspot.com/
….good Ryan site
Not only do I love The Mudflats, I’ve “liked” the FB page, so I can’t do it again!
On to my topic: We all know rMoney is a huge liar. Now we know the same about Ryan:
http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/08/16/702921/after-documents-show-paul-ryan-secured-20-million-in-stimulus-grants-he-claims-i-never-asked-for-stimulus/
I quit facebook a couple years ago when I learned they weren’t trying too hard to protect people’s private info. The Mudflats is the place to be. I have a date around 4:30 today with Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger in Sparta,Miss. I do own an anniverary copy of “In The Heat of The Night” , I left it over yonder last week when I visited my Florida nephew, the one with MS. Tootles and all that rubbish until after the movie.
Sidney Poitier —-“sigh”
I loved Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier in this film, but there werre things about it that seemed so silly that I was permanently turned off. The scene in the plant nursery where the old white guy insults Sidney, then SLAPS him. Slaps. I mean really. Show me one southern male who slaps people. Outside Tennessee Williams or Truman Capote, maybe.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m too old to be ‘young’ and too young to be ‘old’. A most awkward age, 62 is. beth,
Wait until you are 83 like me! ha
I am just down right OLD!
No, no, no- no Facebook- not even for my beloved Mudflats blog and AKM, the awesomest blogger ever,
That place drove me wild when I tried it out.
Agh. Agh. Agh!!!
Can you put a “like” button HERE somewhere that I could run up to 54 gazillion likes ?
If not- I understand. Just consider MF “liked” gazillion times though 🙂
666 is way off.
