I’ve started a petition: http://www.signon.org/create_finished.html%3Fpetition_id=30174# to Verizon’s CEO and Chairman. Verizon’s website said during November that landline phone service would be restored to my neighborhood by December 4th. When it hadn’t happened, I checked back, and saw they’d pushed the date of service restoration to December 21st. I called them yesterday to speak with a human, and was told the target date is the 20th. The woman I spoke with attempted to forward calls to my mobile, but the switch that would enable call forwarding is among the infrastructure Frankenstorm Sandy trashed.

I’m okay. I have a functioning home, and lost nothing to the storm but a very little bit of defrosted food. Others are not so lucky; they’ve lost homes, businesses, irreplaceable possessions. There’s nothing I can do about that, but there’s always something we CAN do.

My petition asks the Verizon bigwigs to provide mobile phones and mobile service, gratis, to people who rely on their non-functioning landlines. There are a lot of elders in my neighborhood, where 200+ customers still lack service. Many if not most of them do not have mobile phones. I’m concerned they may not be able to reach out in an emergency. Of course, my neighborhood is not the worst off. The Rockaways, Staten Island, and New Jersey are all in need, too. Please sign the petition, and share it. Thank you.

This open thread has been here a few days so I’m not sure folks are still stopping by but if they/you are
please , please, read this :
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/06/violence-against-women-act-eric-cantor-native-americans_n_2251924.html
“Of the Native American women who are raped, 86 percent of them are raped by non-Native men, according to an Amnesty International report. That statistic is precisely what the Senate’s tribal provision targets.”
The House version strips protections for 3 vulnerable groups of women.
    Pffft.

Someone reported a week or two ago that the Grand Canyon was 65 million years older than previously believed( by most people), Eau contraire,me old piglets. The Grand Canyon officially started four years ago with rwnj digging in their heels and dragging their feet after Obama was first elected. The chasm will get wider and deeper as nutters have forgotten how to walk upright like advanced primates.

Heard this on WHO news tonight.
Then I heard today that there are 2 or 3 young girls missing from Eldora.
What is going on in Iowa?

  5. mike from iowa says:

Any freakin’ night crawlers in Alaska?

    • Alaska Pi says:

Of the worm type- no native ones, some introduced ones.
Of the human type- too many.

…and, dropping the other shoe, the second best thing, with a chart suitable for printing and handing out to quickly end certain tedious discussions. Perhaps as coasters in certain coffee cafes.

    http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/04/three-card-budget-monte/

“And the GOP says that because of that deficit we must raise the Medicare age and cut Social Security!

Oh, and for all the seniors or near-seniors who voted Republican because you thought they would protect Medicare from that bad guy Obama: you’ve been had.”

One of the two best things I’ve read this morning:

    http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/09/we-are-all-welfare-queens-now/262512/

I don’t wanna ruin it by quoting. Ta-Nehisi Coates is a genius.

……..can see where this is going. VIRAL!!! Fake Noise-all the noise that is print to fit, will claim this proves their contentions that Obama and libs handed out freebies to influence certain minorities to vote Democratic. I can see voters of different colors, sizes, pecking orders, etc. Even have some migrants that don’t have permanent residences anywhere.(prolly from Mexico) The aggregate total of illegal voters shown just happens to match the number found by iowa’s secretary of state before the election.(3) Please note all the goodies are on the “center/left” side of the ballot. Obvious bias in any one’s eyes. On a lighter, brighter note,if birds have turned against rwnj, this planet is rilly looking up.
