Palin Cancels Friday Night Date With Dog Barbecueing Jew Counter.

bbq

You know….sometimes when I type headlines, I really really wish they weren’t true.  I cannot emphasize enough how much that is the case in this instance.  No matter how much I bang my head on the desk, this guy just won’t go away.

First let me start with a disclaimer.

Perhaps I should have said “former dog barbecueing  jew counter” because those things happened a long time ago.  So, you know… if you’re inclined, you can just move beyond that fact and let bygones be bygones.  Hey, we all did crazy stuff in our youth.  I’m sure there are many former dog barbecuing  jew counters who have gone on to become totally different people….like big-wig Republican fundraisers,  for instance.

Governor Palin has cancelled a trip to the East Coast this weekend. She did this in order to survey the damage from the horrendous flooding on the Yukon River, which seems very….I don’t know…. actually governor-like.  I’m kind of impressed.

So, we know that Governor Palin bowed out of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute’s event this afternoon. And we know that she bowed out of the Whitehouse Correspondents Dinner scheduled for tomorrow night. But that would have left a governor with a big empty hole in her schedule. Would she have been sitting in a hotel room on a Friday night in Washington D.C.? Say it ain’t so!

Well don’t fear she would have been ordering room service and watching a movie all by her lonesome. If you thought it was a bit odd that Palin would have made a completely non-partisan trip anywhere, allow me to put your world back into place.

The former Republican presidential [sic] candidate has also pulled out of co-hosting a Friday night dinner for the Republican Governors Association with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford. The dinner is a thank you to donors who have contributed at least $25,000 to the group. The dinner for 50 will be held at the Virginia home of Fred Malek, a major Republican fundraiser.

Nick Ayers, executive director of the RGA, told CNN the event was a “hot ticket” in part because of Palin’s involvement and he’s now searching for a new co-host with Sanford.

Ahhhhh. She was scheduled to re-hobnob with her date to the Alfalfa Club Dinner, Mr. Fred “Don’t worry I’ll find all the Jews, Mr. Nixon” and “Oh yeah, I barbecued a dog in college” Malek.  There are no words… but feel free to wake me up at any time.

She was supposed to be a little thank you present to all the big league GOP donors.  That’s OK.  I’m sure they’ll be just as happy to bask in the “hot ticket” rosy glow of someone like….er….Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, won’t they?  He’s pretty exciting…

    RE: Eagle:
No, their water is full of fuel – and the wells, the river, the ice, the ground, the flooded out buildings, the furnishings in the buildings – all contaminated.
Poor, poor planning. Of course it is going to be a poor fishing season.
Their well is also contaminated with e-coli.
    They do need help.
Thanks for posting the Red Cross info on where we can help!
I am off to put my money where my mouth is.

  2. g says:

Now Huffington Post has a story that Todd’s going in her place. Why on earth would he go, and why on earth would anyone care that he’s there?

Wonder what Wanda will have to say.

Hey all, I think this is on-topic (re: Yukon River flooding) and worth pulling up from an earlier open thread:

I know the Red Cross in Fairbanks is accepting donations for Eagle; as the flooding in Ft. Yukon and Circle hasn’t been fully addressed, their needs aren’t well known at this time. Everts Air (a local air freight/fuel company) is donating planes/pilots/crew to get the goods up to Eagle and just did a 10,500 pound drop yesterday.

Unlike Sarah, who flew over, then flew home.

The Fairbanks Red Cross can be reached at (907) 456-5937; our State Homeland Security Department is also on the ground, coordinating from Anchorage (907) 428-7286.

Eagle has lost EVERYTHING from the clinic and post office to numerous homes; their fuel tanks are full of water, and the fishing season isn’t looking good this year. Whatever anyone can do will probably be gratefully accepted.

  4. phoebe says:

Guess who is filling in for Miss Sarah at the White House Correspondents Dinner…..none other than Todd Palin.

  5. Say NO to Palin in Politics says:

How come word didn’t get out before now about her co-hosting a repub dinner? you’d think it would have……weird.

And don’t forget she just blasted the prez with words like “it’s outrageous” referring to his pulling funds for the missile deal. She’s either throwing a temper tantrum or she’s afraid of discussing actual details on issues she doesn’t really understand. She only does press releases and talking points, she can’t discuss.

Sean chimed in on blasting the prez in the same press release……ya think the prez might like to talk to him face to face about the problems Sean and Scarah have? you betchya

  6. ttownlotta says:

SP has become a joke. Opps, maybe she already was. She needs to get out of politics all together. She is not good at it.

Joe the Plumber has turned on the Repugs. SURPRISE!!!!!!!!

  7. Terpsichore says:

    Oh, it’s #2, NY Dem, definitely #2.

Actually, I think this time she has good reason to bow out, but her apparent habit of seeming to not confirm her appearance dates has got to be making people annoyed. It would me if I were an event planner. She’s not building a reputation as being reliable, and, funny, people generally like reliability in their politicians. If I were coming to this and judging SP by her behavior just since, say, Dec., I would not for a second think that this was a person who could or should think about running for president. In fact, I would not even think this person could or should think about running for governor, or any elected office at a high level than, say, school board member, or maybe even city commissioner.

Can’t wait to find out if she plans to run again or not. Let’s see, election is Nov. 2010, yes? Candidates should probably start campaign fundraising a year out at least?

    So will it be:

#1 – Within four months we will know if SP plans to run for gov. again

    or

#2 – SP will not confirm her candidacy until the very last minute

  8. austintx says:

    NY Dem – Yup.

  9. NY Dem says:

I think there are 2 reasons she didn’t go to DC:

    # 1 – She can’t slip the travel costs for her and her family by people anymore – she would have to pay for the trip herself;

    # 2 – She’s actually afraid and paranoid that if she leaves Alaska one more time, Alaskans might change the locks on the door and not let her back in !

  10. Chaim says:

AKM, you have a knack for the headlines. What could counting Jews and barbecuing dogs possibly have in common? Had to check it out. (BTW, dogs aren’t kosher.) SP can read a good speech, but cannot engage in conversation about issues. It is accurate to say she is a former presidential candidate, in the sense of a candidate for the Republican nomination. Five months ago, a substantial number of people thought she might be a viable nominee in 2012. With a little help from her staff, she has successfully eliminated that misperception among most Republicans with clout.

But although it is easy to laugh at her, we need to take her appeal seriously. While unmasking her as a hypocrite, we would do well to address the roots of her followers’ concerns. Just because we don’t believe Christian fundamentalism is the answer doesn’t mean we don’t have a crisis of values and American identity and a growing cultural split in this country. Thankfully, Obama shows some sensitivity to it.

  11. bubbles says:

austintx-yes!!! wanda sykes and michelle obama. if miz sarah ever thinks to cross mrs. o’s hawse again she will find the “good ship lollipop” she been sailing on sinking with all hands…b

I was sure looking forward to Wanda Sykes taking on Sarah Palin at the Correspondents Dinner.

  13. Lainey says:

    @AKPetMom #67

oh man…I really lol…in a disgusting sort of way 😉

  14. AKPetMom says:

The Palin family actually had a couple of dogs but those dogs did not fit in with their family schedule and lifestyle. Wonder if that’s what Matt Lauer was actually eating when he was having dinner at their house?

  15. Lainey says:

    @SP fans

palin stuck around her house and cancelled her appearances only b/c this flood affected Wasilla (global warming?)….so where was she for Emmonak, Mt. Redoubt, and other tragedies??? believe me…if she thought God was at that dinner, she would’ve attended and screwed the ppl of AK…she would’ve jumped at the chance…there’s a reason she didn’t go and that’s not it!

what a marroon! don’t conservatives know God is everywhere?

  16. Annie in NC says:

Golly I forgot Wanda was doing the show! Wanda rocks!
(We have the same last name and she’s from near where my people are from so I claim her as a cousin.)

this is what SP’s fans say on CNN: [sic]
Anyone anywhere in this world can not possibly think that a dinner, no matter that God will bethere, is moreomportant that the people of a town that has almost been wiped out because of a flood. How can anyone anywhere think that this does not take presedence? The woman runs the state, she is responsible for the people and she has to do everything in her power to assist her people. I, any many other people in this world, would never accept anyone elses excuse that they will surely try to make as to why she can not attend the dinner. Waiting for the liberal dems and women haters to post. Cant wait to here them say why the people caught in this tragedy do not matter and that a diner with God is more important. Waiting…..waiting…….

It’s so good to know she’s gonna do everything in her power to help the people.

  17. Lainey says:

    @Diane
But, in this void of leadership with the ultra conservatives backing her, I wonder why she is not taking advantage of the times and stepping up to the plate and assuming a leadership role.
    ————
just my own little personal opinion on this – She just truly doesn’t know how…I imagine she has NEVER been the sharpest knife in the drawer…she runs on drive and instinct, not intelligence…her puppet masters are just as inept…she has been able to get by, locally, on her limited brain power, knowledge, leadership skills, logic, & common sense – UNTIL NOW (yea for the lower 48)…she is aging…her kids are ? (whatever)…she is getting f’d from all sides…deservedly so! Welcome to the big, real world governor…outside of your control. You can’t kill everything that gets in your way!
    wow…sorry the rant. 😮

  18. Diane says:

What is going on with her.
In state, she chooses options that don’t appear to be helpful to the people of Alaska. Her choices seem more in line with pleasing the broader republican base(approval of Boss Limbaugh needed first).
Yet she is shunning the mainstream republican events.
What is going on? It makes no sense for her to be doing this. She is deliberately staying out of the limelight, she could be keeping pushing her bid for 2012 when the field is wide open.
I think something is going on that she does not want to be in the limelight where her actions or lack of actions are under scrutiny.
I have no knowledge of any scandals in the making.
But, in this void of leadership with the ultra conservatives backing her, I wonder why she is not taking advantage of the times and stepping up to the plate and assuming a leadership role.
Unless the boss to her to stay home.

  19. Joy says:

I have to ask, Is the GINO actually in DC?
Sorry, my step-daughter gave birth to two (reletively healthy) premies this week, and I’ve been running around like a crazy woman trying to take care of stuff.
So, I did not read the whole comments section.
When I read about GINO’s refusal to attend various DC events; I thought it meant she was staying put in AK to ACTUALLY, AND FINALLY begin doing her job.

So, where is GINO? DC or AK?

  20. Blooper says:

Physics Mom: “Darn right you betcha” only gets one so far in a conversation. 🙂

  21. Blooper says:

Wait.. what? You mean a pay-per-view movie, a box of Totinos Pizza Rolls and one of those hotel refrigerator mini-bottles of vodka aren’t good enough for GINO on a Friday night?

    Princess indeed!

  22. Martha says:

    Ah……..Ha! Why Palin is so conflicted about attending out of state functions, with walking, talking people, promises to attend and then cancels. I knew that i had seen this behavior before;

I think AKPetMom hit the nail on the head: GINO has finally realized that she can’t hold a conversation with intelligent people. Not that the crowd she’d have been mingling with are the brightest bulbs, but certainly more knowledgeable about current events or public policy. Then, to be subject to the slings and arrows of Wanda Sykes on Saturday; I guess I understand why she wouldn’t want to sit through that. I’m clearing old stuff from my DVR to be sure and have room to record that. I lurve Wanda S!

I would think that Sarah Palin would be announcing that she needs to stay in AK, to attend to things regarding Bristol’s High School graduation next week??

After all Meg stated that Bristol was busy getting ready for college.

So I take it that Bristol will be graduating with her high school class??

  26. jojobo1 says:

I got a good look at him with Bristol and I don’t get where anyone would think he was anything special or even good looking.I guess it is is the eye of the beholder. Now Levi is nice looking and I think his sister is much better looking than Bristol and a lot smarter, she should be the spokes person. At least she hasn’t had a child. But then again I like Jon Stewart

  28. Lainey says:

    @AKPetMom #7 & #23
God, give me a break! She never intended to go as she would be hanging out with a room full of people that HATE her…..Methinks that perhaps she sees her only political opportunity may be in this state, in a run for Gov in 2010. I would not put it past the people in this state to elect her again…..At least AK will look admirable in the eyes of the Lo48 in that we are taking the hit and saving the rest of the country…..Please remember how she turned a blind eye to the crisis on the lower Yukon in December/January. Same for suburban/urban Alaskans, don’t buy into any of her canned “Alaskana” speeches. The only reason that she would burden us w/her presence for another 4 years is because she knows now that she cannot launch a national campaign.
    ———–
WOW! Can you read minds? I was thinking along those same lines! The only thing I would change is that AK would look truly admirable if they started a RECALL! …get those signatures, ppl.

    @AKM
Don’t be impressed by palin cancelling her ‘tour’…there’s ALWAYS an alterior motive with her…an agenda. “governor-like”…don’t think so.

Yes it is a well known fact that psychopaths/sociopaths start out by killing animal in childhood/teens. Malek and Palin could fit both and does.
The Dog killer and Wolf killer/moose killer…I hate that pic of her subjecting piper to her fresh killed moose. Child abuse.

  31. KaJo says:

At that dinner she was supposed to host at the home of Fred Malek….I wonder if there might be pressure from the disappointed $25,000 contributors to ask her to give back the little enticement for her to show up, the one that probably ended up in her legal fund…er, Alaska Fund Trust…

    .

    .

    .

Just kidding. I don’t know anything of the sort. I wouldn’t be surprised if she DID receive a little gratuity, though.

  32. karen marie says:

    and i’m confused …

what is she doing in DC if she canceled the correspondents dinner a couple days ago “because of the flooding”?

when i heard that she had canceled two days ago (if it was only yesterday it’s been a long couple of days), i assumed she was in alaska and not leaving.

but now i’m understanding that she went to DC knowing there was flooding, canceled three events because there’s flooding, and then she announces she’s having dinner with a jew counting barbecuer of dogs?

it’s hard to imagine having delusions encompassing enough to make that seem like the plan to go with.

  33. karen marie says:

i can certainly understand her backing out of the correspondents dinner. it’s all downside having a roomful of people laughing at you.

    but the governors association dinner?

how many GOP events does this make now that she has canceled at the last minute?

it’s hard to imagine that even she believes her own hype. if she did, why would she be so afraid of attending functions with her peers?

She could have visited the flooded areas of Alaska yesterday, right, and still made the dinner? So I ask, Why does she keep DOING this?
    ———
Executives plan and have trained, qualified people to carry on when not around. They are what the Gov is not. I am not saying she shouldn’t have been in AK, it’s just the painful disorganization of the “incompetent one’s” chaos that leads to these cancellations and inablity to follow through. She’s surrounded herself by dolts and doesn’t know who to listen to, let alone act without looking like a complete nut.

It’s kind of strange that she declared a natural disaster without any need for a quick flyover, then a day or two later has to cancel so many plans in order to swing by the flooding …

  62. “appears to be the flake.” LOL, I believe she IS the flake she appears to be!

  63. Michelle aka Seagull Junker Palin says:

NO WONDER Meg was so obtuse about GINO’s plans for the weekend…..

  64. C.Rock says:

Gino sends Toddy to battle them Gotcha Media people for her dumb a**.

At what point does “flake” stick to Palin?
    ____________

Hard to say, especially since she so often appears to be the flake.

  66. SMR says:

Someone must have told her that she would never ever have been able to sell the “non-partisan” and “REAAALLLY, I’m NOT prepping for a 2012 campaign” b.s. if she’d have gone to that.

    She is unbelievably ethically challenged.

  67. austintx says:

DANG !! You certainly know how to jerk a person around with a headline !! I love it !! Can I have more ?!?!

  68. Ripley in CT says:

AKM, please add “headshakery” to these types of posts…. I am still shaking mine. So much so that it could be considered bobbleheadery!

Sending Toad?? Why not Parnell? Isn’t that his J.O.B.? Yikes.

  69. Professor Geezer says:

At what point does “flake” stick to Palin?

Seriously. How many things will she have to bail on before the GOP figures out her word is worthless. (Yeah, I agree, AKM. It is so shocking when Palin actually does something a governor should do.)

  70. AKPetMom says:

God, give me a break! She never intended to go as she would be hanging out with a room full of people that HATE her. She’d have to make nice w/Katie Couric, who got an award for just asking softball questions to Palin that she couldn’t answer!

Plus, Dud and the Absitnence queen were already hangin’ on the East Coast….hmmm, coincidence?

Her decision could possibly be based on the fact that her poll numbers have plummeted here in AK. Also, everyone in the GOP but Limbaugh is shunning her. Methinks that perhaps she sees her only political opportunity may be in this state, in a run for Gov in 2010. I would not put it past the people in this state to elect her again.

The people that should vote seem never to make their voices heard, ala, Dan Sullivan, hello, elected Mayor. Where was everyone that could make a difference?

I just fear that memories are short up here and if she chooses to begin to focus on AK, that people will support her and we’ll be stuck w/her for another 4 years. At least AK will look admirable in the eyes of the Lo48 in that we are taking the hit and saving the rest of the country.

  71. ericmiami says:

As painful as it is to acknowledge the existence of these people, AKM, you must know there is a legion of people who appreciate what you are doing. Don’t weaken.

  72. Martha says:

    Good grief Charlie Brown!

  73. strangelet says:

She actually is STAYING in AK, right, not coming back?

Oh, and the (sic) is just sick. This is CNN — I looked at the link — referring to her as the “former presidential candidate”. And people wonder why the media lose credibility.

  74. carolyn says:

according to huffpo, her husband, Toad, will be filling in for her at the dc dinner…

  75. Ripley in CT says:

Did they really call her the former “Presidential” candidate? How Gauche.

  76. PalinSucks says:

Unbelievable!!! Okay, not since, Palin, is involved but still sickening.
