Now that it appears that Spring may actually happen, I thought it might be helpful to make ourselves a little checklist so we can chart our progress. I’m sure I’ve forgotten some key indicators, so feel free to leave some in the comments if you think of anything I’ve overlooked.

This is only my personal list, so others may have witnessed some of these things. I’m only counting the things I’ve seen personally at Mudflats Central, elevation 1100 feet above sea level.

It’s kind of like Bingo. Let’s call it Springo! We only win once everything has a YES next to it.

An opening tree bud – NO

A flower – Hahaha.

Stays above freezing at night – NO

A bear – YES

A baby moose – NO

Tour bus – NO

Carwash – Riiiight.

Swallow – NO

Mosquito – NO

Butterfly – YES

Robin – NO

Green leaf – NO

Can hike to creek – NO

Annoying motorhome – NO

Can hike to the Iris Place – NO (I’ll tell you about this spot later. I think you’ll like it!)

Ice-free morning on the driveway – NO

End to flooding/puddles – NO

Seagull in the lowlands – YES

Boat pulled by trailer – NO

Geese – YES

Mud encrusted dog – YES

Dust clouds – YES

Highway garbage cleanup – YES

Creek open at Mudflats Central – NO

Lichen – NO

New lawn growth – NO

Can read outside at midnight – Almost…

Here are today’s Springish captures:

‘Tis the season!

Yesterday at this time, there was ice on the driveway river. Today... not!

A raven rummages around, and comes up with a couple dead leaves and a gum wrapper.

Just saw my first Baltimore Oriole(buck) at 6 a.m. mikey time,May 9th,2013. 49 degrees and mostly cloudy. High near 70 and got to mow. Saw first deer tracks on gravel road yesterday. They migrate east to the river/timber valleys for the winter and choose mikey’s place to have their little ones.
