‘Global Warning My Gluteus Maximus’ Says Palin

You knew this was coming.

Alaska is experiencing insane weather anomalies. Last year Southcentral Alaska had its snowiest winter on record. This year, it’s the longest snow season, at 231 days and counting. So it’s not surprising some idiot on Facebook is going to pipe up and say, “Still believe in ‘global warming?'”

But I actually didn’t expect to hear it from Sarah Palin, even though she’s repeatedly earned the title of Alaska’s newest village idiot.

Palin, you see, during her very brief tenure as Alaska’s governor, not only acknowledged climate change, but actually tried to do something about it.

In 2007 Palin actually created a climate change subcabinet. And it wasn’t just for show. They even had an “Immediate Action Plan” for the communities most at-risk from sea level rise, loss of sea ice, erosion and other climate related issues. Here’s what she had to say then:

It’s easy to forget, because her “bridge to the future” became just another “bridge to nowhere” when her successor and former Lt. Governor Sean Parnell killed the sub cabinet as soon as she left.

Perhaps when confronted with this extreme weather anomaly in her home state, she’s claiming credit for one of the few things she did right as governor, and being a voice of reason in the GOP, with experience to back it up?

For Palin, that was then, and this is snow.

The Palins, like all of us here in Alaska, are getting sick of winter. Understandable. This unusual weather is starting to affect normal springtime activities, like graduations. It’s making most people even more fearful of climate change, and what it may mean than we usually are.

Yesterday, Sarah Palin put this status update, along with a picture of her youngest daughter Piper on her Facebook page. There she stands on the shores of a very white and frozen looking Lake Lucille. Emphasis mine.

One last blast of Alaska winter today, hopefully? This is what “Grad Blast” means in Alaska! We’ll move our graduation b-b-q indoors and watch the mini-blizzard from ’round the fireplace. (Global warming my gluteus maximus.) Congratulations to this year’s graduates all across America. Job well done. Now the real job begins.

The plight of rural villages washing into the sea, the thinnest sea ice in recorded history, and a state which is the canary in the coal mine of climate change, be damned.

This doesn’t exist. Know why? L’il Piper’s golden Uggs got snowy, so we’re gonna take this day of family celebration and use it to slam those libruls, and scientist and their lyin’ schemin’ ways. What’s the fate of Alaska and the nation, when getting 50,000 likes is at stake?

Scientists have agreed that climate change is real and the frequency and severity of storms is a clear symptom. Yesterday in Oklahoma is a good example. Hurricane Sandy is another good example. Sarah Palin is a special kind of stupid: dangerous because some people are dumb enough to believe her.

    • mike from iowa says:

Ok has had a huge increase in earthquakes due to fracking,so they are getting pummeled above and below ground. Any sane person might take a step back and wonder why this stuff is happening now. Nutters will blame libs and gays.

  2. Zyxomma says:

I’m not going to lower myself to $P’s level, so I won’t say anything about her.

OTOH, there’s a dearth of open threads lately, so I’m posting this excellent news here. There won’t be a mountaintop removal Spruce Mine:

If her statement about the very real phenomenon known as Climate Change is any indication of her father’s skills as a teacher, he should be ashamed of himself!

She’s obviously demonstrating she hasn’t a clue about even the most Basic of scientific precepts – that she’s absolutely clueless about ‘how’ science –in all its varied, interacting divisions/branches– works. Her statement demonstrates (again) that she has zero understanding about the subject at all… she’s demonstrating (again) that there’s an utter lack of ANY accumulated knowledge of even the most basic essentials of science, in her.

She learned nothing about science daily from her father? How is that possible? He was, after all, the science teacher! Surely she’d have learned *Something* about scientific processes as related –individually and collectively– to climate and weather while living in his home? How could she have not?

Alas, if she’s any indication of his abilities to teach, and I’ve no reason to believe otherwise, I truly fear deeply for the countless students who were subjected to ol’ Chuck’s lessons while ‘captive’ in his classroom. He should be ashamed of himself.

Ignorance: Not a pretty sight. Even uglier when purposefully shared under the guise of ‘education’ OR withheld completely for lack of competence. beth.

Selective memory, or hers is just gone. Sort of like her umbrella crap, she couldn’t remember other presidents using them.

  5. Poornima Wagh says:

Don’t you people have a real job somewhere. Why can’t you people just leave Sarah Palin and her brood alone. Enough of the Palin bashing already. It’s getting REALLY OLD and STALE.

Move on to something substantial and REAL. Let’s see: something such as the fact that President (the idiot in the White House) ILLEGALLY wire tapped Associated Press records and phone calls, that the IRS was told by the White House to harass the Tea Partiers with giving them the 501 c3 status, or how about Hillary Clinton sitting in front of congress and blatantly lying about Benghazi. Where are the liberals then? Oh that’s right, the liberals are above reproach, my bad.

Get a life and understand that there are MORE serious issues such as our national debt of $16 trillion looming over our heads and the above unconstitutional train wrecks that you should be concerned about. Not about Sarah and Piper Palin.

    • Bryant DeHusson says:

Fuck the debt and fuck politicians. Climate change is the real issue. Go vote for a Republican or something.

      • Alaska Pi says:

        AMEN!
        And halle-frickin-lujah!
Having whatzername slam climate change feeds the obstructionist gobbeldygook the TPers and far right love to play at.
We need that to end .
        Now.

And, quite frankly, whether the Constitution has a trainwreck or three will not amount to doodly squat in the end , if we drop THIS bigger ball.
Whatzername can stick a sock in it or she can take the heat from us when she flaps off. Her choice.

    • Bigtoe says:

To be kind, your recollection of facts/events is somewhat different than that of the rest of us. Plus, the guy responsible for most of that $16 trillion is gone and besides, Snowdrift Snooki was the one who brought up that she was for climate change before she was against it. Just sayin’.

    • mike from iowa says:

Lighten up on the hairspray, will you?

    • John says:

As long as she keeps saying idiotic things (aka opening her mouth) people are going to respond. Yes, there are more important things, but most of us can do at least two things at once. Don’t worry. We are also busy trying to eliminate the crazies elsewhere too. Also. And while Obama is far from perfect, I am greatful daily for McCain’s choice of a running mate that saved our country from disaster.

    • slipstream says:

      Okay.

I will tell you what my real job is, and you will tell me what Sarah Palin’s real job is.

      You go first.

    • COalmostNative says:

Wow. Sounds like you took a left instead of a right on your way to InfoWars. Go check your GPS…

    • Gray says:

Looks to me like someone is watching too much of fox news and thinking its a real news organization.

    • JHypers says:

      Poornima Wagh:

I don’t know if this is your first time posting on here, but if you’re not interested in ad hominem attacks, fuzzy logic, or refusal to engage in the questions or arguments posed from ANY position not held by the general consensus of typical Mudflat readers, I would say you are wasting your time. You’ll get real engagement from Alaska Pi, but few others.

I would like to know what all the daily Mudflat readers are currently doing in their own lives to live more sustainably, thus saving the planet in their own minds. I acknowledge the reality of climate change, but I am more apt to adapt to the changes than think I can somehow prevent the arctic sea ice from continued retreat (my guess is it’s at a point of no return, given increasing absorption of thermal energy as opposed to reflection, making it harder to re-freeze year after year).

So your realistic choices are as follows: keep tarring the village idiot…or consider new ideas and plans for living sustainably on this planet, as free beautiful and independent human beings.

      • mike from iowa says:

        Still butt hurt,are we?

        • JHypers says:

I must be behind the times, because I actually had to look that slang term up just now to make sure what I was reading was supposed to make any sense.

Thank you mike from iowa for providing commentary that continues to meet my mediocre expectations.

          • mike from iowa says:

Lose the expectations and you lose your disappointments. You prefer to go with the flow of climate changes regardless of consequences? Here comes a hungry polar bear. Quick, duck your head into the sand and maybe he/she/it won’t notice you. That’s a rill big help.

    • aaqooauk says:

you are saying that we should be quiet about high ranking gop official?

  6. UgaVic says:

So there is a Palin that actually graduated? It can’t be from hs (or a college for the older ones) so it must be middle school. Let’s hope she, the airplane kid, is actually attending somewhere and learning something.

  7. COalmostNative says:

Sounds like Palin is wearing her Chapeau de Gluteus Maximus again.

    • AKMagpie says:

Love it! Can I borrow it occasionally? Sums up $P in such a lady-like manner.

      • COalmostNative says:

By all means, be my guest- I’m more than happy to share- pass the love 😉

  8. John says:

We could try to explain climate change to Palin, but understanding requires 6th grade thinking skills. Something she is short of.

    • VLBattleaxe says:

Sadly, she is not the only one. Too many people in positions of influence are similarly limited.
