Bird of the Week – American Golden-Plover
American Golden-Plovers breed in the northern two-thirds of Alaska, after migrating up from South America. This pretty lady was at Eagle Summit, working hard to lead WC away from her nest.
If you walk on alpine trails or terrain in Interior Alaska, especially drier tundra, you’ll hear the distinctive “tk-wheee” call as the male and female work to divert your attention to them.
Technical stuff: f7.1, 1/320, ISO200

Another beautiful bird, another beautiful photo. Thanks, WC.
What a beautiful bird: sweet face and lovely plumage.
Does Alaska have any lakes or rivers? I’m sensing a shore-bird/water utilizing bird theme here. Begging your pardon,I have Brian’s iowa cousin here-http://tinyurl.com/k5b38m3
I graduated from high school with Brian’s owner. His family makes playground equipment south of Chrokee, iowa, across U.S. hiway 59 from iowa’s highest mountain-Pilot Rock.

[[OK, mike in iowa…now I will pop you with a rolled-up newspaper as you’ve suggested I do. ::pop!:: There; please consider yourself well and soundly newspaper popped. Why? To get your attention after your having to come back in and post a long link when your tiny link doesn’t work. [that does sound rather kinky, doesn’t it? I assure you, it isn’t meant to be — I just can’t think of a way to phrase it elsewise at the moment. ;-).). The tiny you posted would’ve worked just fine if you’d made sure there was a space before it. All links have to have a clear break before *and* after them, to work…intertube gods are lousy editors; they’re even worse –they’re THE worst– at reading minds. If there’s no clear space/break before and after an intended link, it’s just a run-on word to the intertube gods and they don’t bother making that intended link actually work. I trust I won’t have to virtually pop you on this matter ever again, young man; you’re old enough to know better. And remember, also, too, I only popped you because I love you. You know I do. beth.]]
mikey is red faced, flat out embbbbbbbaaaarrrraaaassseeeddd. Mine goot, my face is so red I am almost rethuglican. I did not know about empty spaces before and after URLs,but since you threa-uh,explained it, it makes sense. Everything makes sense, just depends on your perspective. Please don’t lose the rolled up newspaper,I’m starting to think mikey abuse is fun and I LIKE IT!!!!!! Just kidding-kind of. As an aside,I am going to demand an edit button for idiots(like me) and a slather of stick figures from Ms. Jeanne. Sincere thank you,Ms. Beth and please keep that newspaper handy. I’ll be needing it soon. Consider me chagrined.
Oh, dear mike from iowa, no one could EVer confuse you for a rethuglican — no matter how red your face (or any other part of your body) becomes… When you share information or pass along some interesting tidbit, you always, Always, ALWAYS, include cite of your source (and link to it). Rethuglicans, on the other hand, never so much do that. Ever. Verifying anything -before, during, or after!- seems to be utter anathema to them. And, sorry, my dear, that’s one thing I’ll never be able to make sense of — perspective notwithstanding and/or be damned. You silly goose, you. beth.
I think one of the things I like best about this photo series is the chance to see the details of the birds’ plumage- design and color- that one can’t see from the usual “afar” nor, in my case with wacky eyesight , in field glasses or camera viewfinder.
This bird’s plumage is stunning- design would make a lovely fabric design.
Thanks WC!
