Perxactly how far away from where Shell wants to drill is the nearest Coast Guard Station. I thought someone once said about 3000 miles. Anyone know for sure? Thank you.
2000 miles mike. all the more reason to declare the area a monument, in my mind.

Apparently some energy industries figure the NRC is in business to protect business from critics. Thanks to Cory at madville times for the article.
“The NRC report serves as a huge wakeup call to the public that the oil industry is not responsible enough to be trusted in the Arctic.”
I would amend that to say that the fossil fuel industry, whether we’re talking about oil, coal, natural gas, or bitumen (erroneously called tar sands oil to make it sound like oil, with which we’re familiar) cannot be trusted ANYWHERE. They’ve proved it over and over again. Every penny of taxpayer money should be diverted to renewables (and I don’t mean corn ethanol). Wind, sun, tidal, and geothermal comprise our energy future. Everything else is too polluting and too dangerous.
