Sarah Palin Slams Michelle Obama in Racially Charged Passage from New Book

In passages leaked from her forthcoming book America by Heart, Sarah Palin — the erstwhile quitter governor of Alaska, who now, by all indications, fancies herself as President of the United States — has taken another cheap shot at First Lady Michelle Obama.
In a passage on perceptions of racial inequality in the United States, Palin slams President Barack Obama, who, she asserts, “seems to believe” that “America — at least America as it currently exists — is a fundamentally unjust and unequal country.”
And then she goes after Michelle Obama:
Certainly his wife expressed this view when she said during the 2008 campaign that she had never felt proud of her country until her husband started winning elections. In retrospect, I guess this shouldn’t surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church listening to his rants against America and white people.
The passage — coming on page 26 in a chapter entitled “We, the People” — echoes remarks made by Palin on the eve of the midterm elections, at a rally in San Jose, California, at which point she mocked remarks made by Michelle Obama during the 2008 campaign: “You know, when I hear people say, or had said during the campaign that they’ve never been proud of America,” Palin spat out. “Haven’t they met anybody in uniform yet? I get tears in my eyes when I see that young man, that young woman, walking through the airport in uniform…you too… so proud to be American.”
In fact, Michelle Obama’s remarks were made (in Madison, Wisconsin, during the 2008 campaign) in a context of Americans being “unified around some basic common issues”:
What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something–for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction, and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.
Afterwards, the First Lady further clarified her remarks by noting that she was referencing the “record number” of young voters participating in the political process in the 2008 campaign:
For the first time in my lifetime, I am seeing people rolling up their sleeves in way that I haven’t seen and really trying to figure this out, and that’s the source of pride I was talking about.
The passages from Palin’s latest book first appeared at Palingates, where several other pages from American by Heart have also been posted. Palin followed up her comments about Michelle Obama by throwing an elbow at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, also focusing on racial overtones:
It also makes sense, then, that the man President Obama made his attorney general, Eric Holder, would call us a “nation of cowards” for failing to come to grips with what he described as the persistence of racism.

Sarah Palin couldn’t possibly believe in a god, and especially not the Christian god she claims. If she did, she would be afraid to be such a judgmental bitch.

Once again, Palin has shown herself to be shallow, ignorant, irrational, delusional, petty, and vindictive — in short, everything that the tea party seeks in a political candidate.
Just to stay consistent with SP’s wisdom and dignity……What a nitwit and goofball. Perhaps the books should be used to wrap fish guts. It doesn’t sound like the common sensy thingy is working out too well. Perhaps she’ll shake things up in a big way and bring lots of cookies to private school students to illustrate how lucky they are while she’s mouthing off that such things (cookie eating) should be up to parents. If things get to be too much for her, Willow and Bristol can go all “mean girl” on facebook and declare critics are just jealous of their family because they are soooo succesful and declare others will go “nowhere in their lives”. They can throw in some curse words and homophobic slurs just to show their skill in dealing with conflict with dignity. The adult daughter who has developed her sense of dignity, apparently from her mom, can rail how she’s “worked her butt off” for two year because she’s a single mom as a not ready for prime time dancer. Do they notice she is similar to the American Idol contestants sited in this book whose talent is questionable but feels entitled? She said she’d rather be in the wild then in a stuffy office. I hope she means it. She said she’d run for president if its a “good thing”. It’s not!!!!!!!!!! Nitwits and goofballs!!!!!!!!!

People should not be judged by their looks, but they are, and Sarah has made a career of it. So, if the cover AKM posted is a faithful rendition of the rill book cover, I have to ask:
1. DOES SHE EVER WASH HER HAIR AND WHY DIDN’T HER PUBLISHER MAKE HER WASH IT!!!
2. Why are her cheeks so pink that she looks like she belongs in a gutter singing “Sweet Adeline” with some other local colorful people?
3. Why didn’t they air brush out the wrinkles. I’ll say it again. I’m ten years older, but I look younger than she does.
4. If family, faith, and flag are so important, and, one assumes, in that order, then why is she only sharing the cover with the flag? Where are faith and family? And is she so insecure about the flag that she has to push that flag bracelet into my face?
I just renewed my driver’s license. I’m betting my new license picture will look better than what they chose for the book cover. Looks like she’s getting punked–intentionally or not.

With Palin’s dislike of the main stream media [ tv / press ], filtering and screening everything questions-appearances, fear of the general public and view points,……you know……rephrase this……actually her overall dislike and fear of the bulk USA population. If she did run for prez are we going to be restricted to Fox New/News Corp reports and access only ? and When, Where, Who Interviews and debate her will be decided by her-team at a time a place to be decided by them though subject to change based on her twitter/facebook feed and any criticisms circulation she does not agree with but knows to be true. ???
I’m puzzled as to how this will work and how would the main stream media handle her ? To be honest I feel they would still be objective, though I would not blame them one bit if they give her a taste of real in-depth up close and personal investigative journalism. I hear there are some interesting stories to be told, whether they are true or not doesn’t matter…I’ll decide after they air.

Presumably it was to stand in favorable contrast to the serious political position books written by previous Presidential candidates. It doesn’t seem to have met that standard.
That Sarah is in denial that there is racism in this country only enhances the perception that Sarah is highly disconnected from reality.
She need look no further than her “use” of a push up bra to “get my way”, and to constantly appear in unfashionably short skirts (she just can’t keep her hands off her own bare legs can she? It must be code for something. I can’t imagine what.) and hooker boots to realize that she know there is sexism.
If there is sexism there just might be some vestigial racism in this country.

I thought that this book was supposed to be an inspirational collection of quotes and stories about people whom Palin admires (or whom she could conveniently look up on Google!). Didn’t she trash enough people in her first piece of fiction? She had to come back to slander some more…seriously?
Actually, I think the title is an accurate one. Her heart has become a tiny, shrunken, dessicated, black, moldy piece of toxic waste, so whatever venom she spews in this book no doubt comes directly from that source. I don’t think even Cindy Lou Who could salvage that bit of refuse!

I had a well read and cleaver friend ask me if I thought it was possible that the US could fall under a Fascist regiem starting with a patriotic all for martial law. Here is the hypothesis: The Teaparty gets built up and up, more and more angry and more violent. Then the call for martial law comes from the POTUS and a Fascist regiem is born. Please don’t get me confused for a Troll, I am in no way saying the current admin would pull this. But look at this election cycle, consider the upcoming bids in 2 years. We are at a point where nothing makes sense and people who lie cheat and steal get re-elected, crazy people win (in some places). The political board is in c(C)haos, nothing makes sense and however unlikely, even a mean girl with a reality TV show may really have a shot. EVERY ONE knows something is wrong and NO ONE knows what (you know what I mean)

A little more has leaked about the new literary work. Commenting on the films American Beauty and Juno. So Sarah respects Simon Cowell’s criticism. I wonder what Simon would say about Sarah?
From what I’ve read of the pages of this book put up at Gawker, this new book is nothing but Going Rogue rewritten with a few quotes from other people thrown in! Unbelievable. It seems the only story she ever tells, the only one she is ever interested in, is the story of Sarah. I thought her first book was a waste of paper, but this one is like recycled used toilet paper! The Trig story – AGAIN. The Bristol story – AGAIN. Over and over again, the same crap.
Three things come to mind:
1) Haven’t we learned by now: The truth and facts are NOT necessary for $arah Palin. Ever. Truthiness is much more her ‘style.’
Once something gets into her brain, it is there forever…in the *exact* form it entered…never alterable, never changeable, never deleted. She can be proven time and time again to be wrong, and she’ll just keep on repeating what has penetrated her brain. Sad, that.
It’s *seriously* time for the media –ALL of it– to call her out on the chit she spews. Consistently. It’s time for the rest of us, us ordinary, sane folks, to –consistently– do the same with anyone we come in contact who [for who knows what reason!] still thinks $P is *not* a clear and present danger to our nation and its citizens.
Sure, she’ll play the ‘victim’ card, again, (she always does, when she’s confronted with truth and facts), but it’s high time to put an end to her divisiveness, inanity, and ugly. Our nation does NOT need her — not for one damned thing. She adds nothing to the dialogue; all she does is suck hope, light, and progress out of everything.
2) Jealousy is not an attractive trait; blinding jealousy is even less so.
It, rightfully so, makes one look quite unbalanced and quite unstable; unable to control their thoughts and emotions.
Mayhap that’s a lesson $arah would do well to learn.

3) The end product [this book] seems to have radically changed from its original premise. If I remember correctly, the original premise of this book was: A collection of uplifiting stories from/about inspirational people $arah met/meets in her travels across the nation…(a ‘companion’, if you will, to the tv series she was [going to be] doing.) From what I remember of the hype when the book ‘dill’ was made, it was going to be a: “Rah-rah! Rill Amurica” — as seen through the eyes of $P.
Apparently, though, Missy Quitty-Pants couldn’t break out of her true persona long enough to make such a book come about. She just couldn’t help it — or herself; items 1 and 2, above, just had to be overwhelmingly front and center. Because *that* is who and what she is.
When, oh when!, will MY America wake up to the complete fraud that is $arah Palin? beth.

A while ago, these father guys got together and, in the America, they built a country, our country, sort of based on this premise of general free-ishness and equaltude. We are now committed to this War on Terror against the bad guys, who are trying to test our resolve. But this is America! We have the greatest army in the world, and those brave men and women are now out there checking to see if these Enemies are with us or against us, and if they’re against us, well, they’ll be hearing from us.
Barack Obama
Four score and seven years ago, I had a revolutionary idea. This was back when the many rich threads that weave together in the fabric of our nation still bled from the scourge of oppression in an era where dreams were a commodity to be discarded, but it was a creed that I believed, and that I still believe in, that in a generous and free America, all people are created equal and can dream dreams from their fathers or legal guardians. Now we are examining the range of possibility in these economic times for that dream I had, which is similar to the dreams of Americans from the Rust Belt, where I hear from Joan, a single mother of four, who is worried that she won’t be able to put food on the table, and from Jeff, a single mother of six, who is worried that he won’t be able to afford a table. I think, candidly, that there has been a failure of message here that has resulted in a lot of Americans becoming upset and even, in some cases, making the extreme choice to secede, but I am confident that we can resolve this, and we’ve accomplished a lot already.

OOPS! when is went. I also just checked on Michelle’s college experience. She went to Princeton as an undergraduate and then Harvard Law. Incredible resume!
Also, Palin must notice the Obamas are raising fantastically articulate and accomplished children despite the harsh glare of the media. And if you notice Michelle Obama went to several colleges because she graduated from each and when on to the next to acquire graduate degrees. This is how it is done.
It must make the Palin family’s collective heads spin off when they look and see that Chelsea Clinton earned great grades in high school in a very academically rigourous program, did the same as an undergraduate, then went to graduate school and a job.
I think the issue that bothers Sarah most of all regarding her public persona is how we notice her obvious poor parenting skills and lack of compassion for her children. Most mothers would not wish a pregnant teen-age daughter to be exposed to public scrutiny and judgment — no matter the spin. Sarah Palin simply could not check her ego and admit she wasn’t vice presidential material — she callously marched forward. I am not making any value judgment about Bristol’s pregnancy, I am simply saying SP’s lack of empathy was so sad to witness. I think that is why she tries to make it up to Bristol by promoting her as he does — Candies and DWTS. Unfortunately, it is such a poor substitute for an education that might have honed Bristol’s innate talents. Sarah repeatedly has talked up Bristol’s great grades, so why didn’t she get a good nanny and help Bristol apply and get into the college of Bristol’s choice? There is no lack of money but a lack of values in the family regarding secondary education. Also, there is no getting around the obvious neglect of Trig during Sarah’s labor. No way a loving and protective mother would have taken such a chance as Sarah did flying from Texas to Alaska leaking amniotic fluid. Sarah’s excuses are entirely without merit. Overriding self interest is Sarah Palin’s fatal flaw.

However, having visited Palingates, thus having seen the “leaked” clips, I must say something. Harper Collins should hire a new ghostwriter or editor. There’s no way this twit, who revels in her own ignorance, was familiar with the word “brio.” That it was used correctly shows me someone else wrote it (referencing John Kennedy, for those who aren’t reading the clips). I wonder whether this was done purposely, to prove to the world that she’s smart.

I think selling out for money and saying anything to make a buck is being pretty well being gone. There isn’t much left but a beating heart and a wacky performance.
It’s bad enough the way she talks about the President and First Lady in this book, but her bringing up Malia is outrageous and hypocritical, given the way she goes after anyone who mentions anything about her kids. But none of that is surprising. What is surprising is that she’s making herself look so bad just when she’s weighing a presidential run and is in the middle of a big media make-over. Michelle Obama is too strong, too comfortable in her own skin, too smart, too confident and too gracious to be dinged by the yapping of some demi-celebrity with an unscripted TV show and a book of quotes that can be found via Google.
Sarah, hon, a couple of points.
– Michelle went to multiple colleges, like you did, but she graduated from each. She didn’t jump around from place to place until she could find one that would let her get a degree.
– Michelle’s an accomplished woman, with a solid career before she put that aside temporarily to be First Lady. She didn’t quit two jobs early (Governorship, oil board) or leave a town government a shambles.
– Michelle’s kids are sweet kids that she shields from the spot light. Not poorly mannered devils, posting garbage on facebook, getting knocked up by local half-wits, not being shilled by their mother in front of the camera for the mother’s profit and convenience.
So, Sarah, go ahead and pick at her. You’re showing your classlessness and insecurity, which in this case is very well founded. You can’t hold a candle to Michelle and you never will.

Another class-less moment by Sarah Palin was when she distorted then-candidate Obama’s plea to the media to lay off her family, and accused him of asking the media to lay off his family, with the unspoken implication that he was fine with the media going after her family. This alone telegraphed to me her lack of civility.

I have always agreed with Michelle Obama about being proud of my country that appeared to be coming together and accepting each other without the hate and prejudice on our own soil and with other nations on this planet. I came of age during the Viet Nam, Watergate, the civil rights movement, and several major assassinations time frame. I had the audacity to hope that Obama would encourage unity and a new beginning. The “Yes We Can!” rapidly turned into no you won’t.

Part of why the last election was so emotional for me was that we actually elected a Black person as president. HUGE breakthrough. I was SO proud of us! The world was shocked we did it.
Then it made all the racists crawl out from under their rocks, but at least we see them now.
The earth actually shook for me on that night (as the tears streamed down my cheeks). Something deep and profound occurred in the cosmos and there is NOTHING that all of the hate-filled pundits and politicians and their followers on earth can do about that. They can whine and shout and yell their “He*& Nos” but what happened that night cannot ever be changed. I truely believe this and it is where my deep abiding “Hope” lives deep in my soul.
It is akin to the sound barrier being broken. Once it happens, there is no going back.

I cried too LMDs. I remember that night so vividly. I was so happy Obama was elected and so relieved that Palin was nowhere near the WH. I woke my husband at some ungodly hour of the morning…and he was great, he got up and we watched the acceptance speech together.
That was a truly amazing night. I remember only getting two hours sleep and as luck would have it….my bathroom was being renovated the following morning. A man arrived and proceeded to smash the old bathtub. The noise was defeaning and there was no way on earth I could grab a few minutes of sleep. However, I was exhausted, but happy.

I had the exact same reaction. My whole family was gathered around the television, watching. We were all very emotional and knew we were witnessing the kind of history that you tell your great-grandkids about years later.
We all had such a strong sense of witnessing something very profound and earth shaking. As I looked at those beautiful black faces, I was so full of joy that I could not stop crying. Then I remembered that Barack’s mother was white, and that gave the moment even more significance for me. It felt like a very significant and deep “coming together” in the soul/psyche of our country; the beginnings of a healing of sorts.

But look at the majority of middle-aged or older, white, middle class people in this country. You know, the group that votes Republican. They have had a lifetime of the best of everything, yet they seem to have an immense collective chip on thier shoulders. They are angry and aggrieved, probably because American society has changed so much, without their permission, and they are the demographic who are coming out in droves in support of Palin. People who are angry and frightened are probably the easiest to manipulate, and the right-wing Republican party knows this.
People, especially the main-stream media, have to recognize this. I was dismayed watching Barbara Walters host Palin. When Palin said she could beat Obama, Ms. Walters didn’t question or challenge her. She looked on disapprovingly but said nothing. That’s all it takes.
There are a lot of women in this range that can’t stand her actions. They are educated/ some not with all do respect and do not think like this. They are faithful to the Republican party and not to Palin. I don’t classify them in any way. Palin is a bipartisan insult to several women.
A bulldog can produce an awful bite but a bad mouth cuts beyond the skin. I respect a lot of Republican women who think differently than I do. What I do not respect is mega public voices that insult half the world that do not think like them. There is nothing exceptional about that.

Exactly! I would love to hear Mrs. Palin’s explanation for this new exodus. The interview with Baba Wawa wasn’t the first time Palin has talked about the reverse diaspora, but people just keep letting it pass by without any follow up. Cry me a river, how long do we have to wait for some accountability?
We may be appalled at the number of Evangelical Christians who may buy into this ‘alliance’ with Israel. The Armageddon Now crowd wants to be ‘raptured’ up to heaven and this appears (somewhat shady theology) to not happen until after Zion/Israel rebuilds the temple (center of the world, ready for the return of Jesus the Christ).
What the Christians do not necessarily reveal is that if Jews do not convert to Christianity, they are doomed to hell, also too (shhh…they don’t want Israel to know that’s the plan). Rev. John Hagee knows the truth and has it all figured out–remember him? John McCain had to kick the Reverend to the curb after actively seeking his endorsement in the run-up to the 2008 presidential campain.
Interesting thing about that…
There is a thing called body language and sometimes it betrays what you really think. Sarah is not very good at hiding her “tells” so to speak. Take a look at that clip. Sarah takes a very long, and I mean a very long blink as she answered that she thought that she could beat Obama. I don’t believe that SHE believes she can. Sometimes when people blink like that, that means they are trying not to allow the lie to come out. Excessive eye blinking doesn’t by itself prove she is lying (to herself or others) but I do think that it is interesting to note that it is different than her normal blink pattern.

First off, I am now pretty sure Sarah Plain will never learn. She has had what I think are enough opportunities. If she were going to have done it, she would have started heading down that road way before now. It totally fits in with her personality. To even suggest there is anything she needs to learn is perceived as an attack – crazy, I know, because nobody is perfect, but there it is.
Second, I think she was put on this earth for US to learn something, something having to do with how we deal with celebrity and politics in the TV and Internet Age in which every aspect of our lives devolves (if we let it) into the arena of entertainment.
I may have mentioned it before, but please please please, read Dr. Neil Postman’s book “Amusing Ourselves to Death”. Even though an older book (pre-internet) nearly everything in it relates to exactly what we are seeing happening today.
The very few criticisms of the book I have read generally have to do with the fact that he does slam TV rather hard as being an ineffective messenger of complex facts and arguments because it is (as I also believe) a “box of entertainment”. His argument is that all TV shows, like news and religious programs, are therefore ‘dumbed down’ and/or ‘sensationalized’ to help make them entertaining to the masses.
However, that does not take into account that one person’s boredom is another person’s entertainment. Some people think crossword puzzles are tedious, while others get hours of entertainment out of them. Likewise, some people are really entertained by intelligent people discussing dry facts (like some show on PBS for example) whereas others dismiss them as ‘boring’.
Anyway, I think I said this earlier. Kennedy was our first TV presidential candidate. We had to deal with the reality of what the new medium of TV was going to have on our politics and our voting.
Likewise now. Sarah Palin may be our first Reality-Show TV presidential candidate, and we will have to deal with the reality of what that means to our politic discourse and voting.
Good insight. Our high paid celebrities are reality stars. We have switched from having our celebrities displaying true talent to allowing them to just be attractive, rude, sexual, etc. We award people for telling lies and being extreme. Go figure. We are desenitized. Empathy is a hidden art. Very sad.
I’m not sure that appearing on a reality show (while at the same time trashing the reality show format in her book) gives her the where with all to be President. I don’t see how that shows that you are a leader in any way. A media star maybe, but not a President.
Palin has shown that she isn’t interested in Governing. She may be a candidate, but my guess is that she won’t get past the primaries.
Putting Malia Obama in the book was unnecessary, too–way over the line.

I thought she thought that children were off limits? Michelle Obama has never said “Boo” about Palin or her children in print or otherwise. Why does Palin feel the need to even mention Malia? Adults are fair game, children are not.
No, no. She said HER children were off limits. Obama said all of their families, particularly their children, were off limits. But all she chose to hear was that HER children were not to be discussed.

So Sarah’s pulling a conservative LSM tactic of Sherrod’ing Michelle Obama. We heard her complaints about the Obama’s since her VP Intro speech (which everyone still marvels she delivered flawlessly despite her use of a teleprompter, also too) and none of what AKM highlights is of any surprise – but for her to still harp on it, insisting that their past words and record is still suspect and subject to national debate – only makes Sarah’s record so vulnerable to further, harsher vetting.
Sarah keeps forgetting that the attacks can go both ways, and though that AP article the other day says that Palin used her Facebook to continually dig at Murkowski, she never responded (until her Couric interview.) So, in a nation of adult leaders, this is how we conduct ourselves and we ask that of their families too.
Interesting observations from the New York Times article, in the face of the reality that Sarah’s limited hobby as a half-term Governor, is that she’s now eclipsed her ‘years’ of experience as a State’s Chief Executive being a private citizen.

That’s the most frustrating thing for me — the warped and perverted description of my record and what I’ve accomplished over the last two decades. It’s been much more perplexing to me than where the lamestream media has wanted to go about my personal life. And other candidates haven’t faced these criticisms the way I have.”
I’ll agree with what she said, her governing record is perverted. We no longer have to look at it with rose colored glasses. I look forward to taking on her record on the City Council, Mayoral, Oil & Gas Commission and Gubernatorial dalliances.
Palin was referring to “getting in there and cleaning up corruption, taking on the oil companies and the good old boys in the party, things like the natural-gas pipeline” and “getting things out of the government’s hands, like the state-owned dairy creamery in Alaska.” – Oh my my my, yes, let’s talk about your phantom natural-gas pipeline Sarah, and your infamous Dairy Creamery!
What’s most important to me, is that she keeps talking, keep’s having her name appear on ‘authored’ books, that she keeps “writing,” “tweeting,” and whatnot so that we can use it against her. We can’t twist her own words the way she twists the intent of the President or the First Lady.
It’s unfortunate that she still makes LSM news cycles with her unconfirmed Facebook and Tweeting posts without the benefit of vetting her knowledge, expertise and grasp of what she purports to know anything about. But we relish the day we get access to her outside her comfort zone, and I’m not talking about being in Hollywood audience.
Sarah remains a walking wedge issue, and that she still smarts from those that quit enabling her bipartisan image is pretty hilarious. That she thinks she can morph her perverse celebrity into mainstream, electorate appeal no matter the economic climate is what is the most audacious, not that a half-black son of a single mother with International and national carpetbag lifestyle can become the leader of the free world – and that his very smart, black wife can be the First Lady. . .it isn’t that Sarah is a woman that we have issues. It isn’t that her daughters are ill-mannered, overweight or possibly pregnant. It isn’t that she supposedly chose life for a down syndrome diagnosed fetus. It isn’t even that she has conservative values, it is all about the fact that she is not fit to lead. Especially in a developed country.
Go sell your “books” Sarah. Sell your ‘modestly’ spun folksy Frontier Superwoman narrative with the most stunning prop around, our Alaska. Keep raking in your dough and fandom. It won’t translate into leadership qualities, it won’t sell your mental and intellectual fitness. Just because you put yourselves out there doesn’t mean you are a hard worker and have a servants heart. You are a fraud and a sham and a shame. We won’t let you get far on the road to the White House.

As she got older, she had to be less open about those racist comments. Be it in public or in private. Her kids wouldn’t have it.

My grandparents used to be fairly outspoken in their bigoted, even racist views. Mind you, I suspect they toned down the rhetoric when we visited them, because they knew my parents vehemently disagreed and we (grandchildren) were known to ask disingenuous questions that made it clear we were mystified as to how they could dislike OUR friends based on pigmentation. They got VERY quiet when “those” people became part of their family in the form of great-grandchildren.
Now, their thinking may not have changed much–but they got VERY quiet.
I think there is a proverb, somewhere that goes like this:

Yeah. Even the staunchest Republican Catholic Polish-Americans can find themselves on the inside, looking out, when suddenly it’s about THEIR family.
Growing up conservative this was the norm, at least in what I saw. Certain things were pointed out quickly as being against this “type of person,” or “that type of behavior.” There was this sad fear of different. There was a strong literal interpretation of the bible. Hell was where a person was headed if they crossed well known lines. Thank heavens for my family who changed through their experiences and also believed in a deeper respect for diversity, acceptance and belief in rights of all. They encouraged me to get out of my little town and be open to a big world full of incredible people who think differently. Ignorance did not have to be my reality. I had never seen a person of color or had met a person who was out. That changed and so did my learned fear.
Some of my conservative beliefs have remained as they relate to my religion. However, I do not believe in the literal meaning of the bible and many people do not. I respect other religions and have no fear. I believe that our soilders have a right to be who they are (gay or straight). I also believe that women need to hold onto their rights and be strong voices to see more of their rights come to fruition. I was taught to walk a mile in another mans shoes. And remember that poverty is real and giving may be jgiving a hand up instead of a narrow belief that it is always a hand-out. While I respect others who think differently, I pray for a more united country from the real dangers we face. SP is example of fear and there is nothing there to truly fear.
When I tap into why she bothers me it is simple. She is anti-hope and anti-change to all women. I may not always jump on the bandwagon of total disdain or controversies for this woman. I think too much energy is given away to her and makes her only more popular. There are a lot of men that are pulling the strings of our political wallets who would probably put her to shame if they were brought out in public eye. I am glad that she is in the light of day to remind me that on this planet, her voice is not the dominant voice of all Americans. She would never have my vote because hyperbolic political rhetoric is just that. There are no solutions, substance or compromise in ignorant extremes.

In addition to being appalled that she lost to a black man (because it REALLY was a race between her and Barack Obama, after all), I think she’s also still harboring resentment for the woman who beat her out for Miss Alaska way back when.
I wonder how she treats the members of her extended family who have more Native blood than her husband or children. Then again, we saw how she treated the rural villages when they were starving a couple of years ago. That pretty much said it all.

Let’s remember that Sarah Palin began her political career by transforming – for no reason other than it served her ends – what had always been a collegial and friendly mayoral race in Wasilla into a nasty (and completely fictitious) smear campaign, in which she began alleging that her opponent was not a Christian and was not even actually married to his wife! And as I recall, it was the first time she tapped her posse at that pentecostal church to help her achieve her goals. What a happy discovery it must have been for Sarah, to learn how much EASIER it is to throw out lies and deceptions, and what a BLESSING she had in using the secular power of faith-based followers. Last, she is the one who plainly stated her moral code: I can do anything I want until I’m stopped. I have come to believe that Sarah Palin is a test for us, our democracy, and our very souls. I do not say this lightly or rhetorically: she is a certain kind of evil, incarnate, walking among us.
Wow – I did not know that she had spread that kind of rumor – and just for the sake of winning the piddly post of Mayor of a small town. Gosh, that is blind ambition!
I, too, think Palin represents more than just a aging woman desperate for attention who gets off by generating division. She does indeed give us a choice. By how we chose sides for 2012 we will know ourselves and our neighbors. We will know how much we each really believe in the America we were raised to love, the ideals of our faith and community. I can only hope people chose carefully and stand against what she represents.

So this has been her normal playbook? Was her rhetoric as bad in Alaska when she was running for mayor and Gov? Spoke to a person in Alaska and they said she was liked but changed. The fame got to her head. Imagine this is true for a lot of people that thrust into celebrity. I thought she just might be pulling a flip flop like the man that pushed her to the stage (McCain). I miss the old McCain, the one that use to have reason.

Alaska PI- that stinks. I wish a bunch of strong Alaska women will stand up and write a book- The Sarah Alaska knows… However, many books still need to be written about a bunch of the politically inept men that are in there as well.
Palin not only did that, she also hired a city manager because she couldn’t or wouldn’t do the job herself, spent big bucks redoing her office, and left Wasilla in debt due to the arena she pushed to build– I don’t know if the legal fight over the land title is over yet.
I hope that most of America who thinks she is nothing more than a joke, open their eyes about the true threat that this woman poses. People believed she would disappear after her failed VP bid. People thought her career would be over after resigning her elected position. People thought her stupidity and lack of intellectual curiosity would end her influence. People thought that she would have to play by the political rules to survive.
Instead, she has gone on to be the front runner for the GOP nomination. Instead, the media hangs on every word and treats her with a respect that she has not earned.
I suggest that we not underestimate her or the power of an electorate to cast their votes for someone unqualified to serve in the highest office in the country.

I don’t think fear is the exact word. If she won, she would be sanctioned from speaking. We would be spared from her FB or Twitter rants. She would offend a ton of countries with her lack of tact. She offends a big portion of the USA. She would be sent to finishing school on our tax dollars. LOL. I don’t underestimate her celebrity but she is obviously appealing to her base.
I have faith that the Republicans realize that they have a rogue one in the mist. If saying “no” to the President was an art form. Buckle up and watch the fire works, we are about to see a Republican positioning tour. As a moderate Dem almost Indep, she is a major turnoff. She has become known for her over the top rhetoric. There are a lot of people that are making money. Fits the Western theory of Yin and yang. Long 15 minutes of fame but there will be (to coin the phrase) another chosen one.

The media have been taken over by the mega-corporations which are far more concerned about their bottom line than the truth. They will cover whatever the corporate offices tell them to, and it’s a well-established fact that controversy increases ratings. Despite what Palin and her followers claim, control of the media is held within a very small community of millionaires and billionaires…and we all know which side of the aisle the wealthy generally prefer!

I have been thinking that we do not deserve him for a long time now. The wonderous thing about our present POTUS is that the things that he has, and is, achieving will come to full fruition long after he is no longer our president. The man towers above most of us in his intellectual capacity to think into the future. Just think of what happened with GM yesterday. Who could have foreseen that this turnaround would come so soon when everyone was screaming about bailouts of the automotive industry? How many jobs did that save? Michigan??? crickets….It blows me away everytime news is released and I see that he really is a marvelous chess player.
And it saddens me to see how tired he looks. How difficult it must be to try to actually govern and try to get things done (that so desperately need getting done) while having to just let slide all of the horrible and hurtful rhetoric from both sides. $P would quit after a week because all of her hair would be falling out.

WAKE UP Sister Sarah!!! We are fundamentally unjust and unequal in, oh, so many ways. But, of course, she wouldn’t know that because she comes from a lily white community where there are so few people who aren’t “just like” her that she wouldn’t know injustice or inequality if it slapped her in the face. She obviously misses the truth of our society. Injustice comes in many forms. It comes in racial, sexual and socioeconomic forms to start with. Of course, that is hard to see when you exist in a white, middle America bubble that simply mirrors your own image back to you.
Now, I don’t wanna go all edumacated on y’all, but Western Civilization is founded on texts that honor deception, and, as far as I know, these texts are widely taught in institutions of higher learning throughout the world. Miz Palin, having attended five or so of these institutions, might have encountered these texts; as a churchgoer, she would pretty much definitely have encountered one of them.
Odysseus loves him some deception, as does Jacob. Loki likes to mix things up, as well, and for the non-Westerners, there’s the Monkey God. Point is, lying for the right reason has historical precedence. Strictures against lying and interrogations re: whether the reasons are right or not complicate the issue, but lying is not ipso facto wrong.
We can all delude ourselves into thinking we are Joshua in the land of the Canaanites; once we do that, all bets are off.

Actually–that’s not often the case. Mean girls usually have a very inflated sense of self-worth and entitlement. The problem is that they are not reined in IMMEDIATELY because most of them are also cute or pretty enough that people automatically give them the benefit of the doubt AND they curry favour with adults in the vicinity.

You can’t diagnose someone as being narcissistic, or bipolar, or having borderline personality disorder, or any number of other things until they are 18+.
Now, Sarah is definitely old enough to merit investigation. I will grant you that she is narcisstIC, but to merit the diagnosis would require an M.D. and/or Ph.D. and her participation. So…I won’t do that. Ethically, it would be wrong of me to do so.
But I will suggest that looking into Axis II disorders wouldn’t be a bad thing to do. She certainly seems to exhibit a LOT of characteristics from a couple of coloumns, doesn’t she? (I lean towards BPD as being in that mix.)
Basically–everytime someone questions her, she conflates her emotional response with an actual attack upon her ______________ (fill in blank). So the BEST thing that any reporter or journalist or citizen can do is ask direct questions and ask them repeatedly until she answers, falls apart or flys off into a rage. Being a professional victim of circumstances, or “mean people”, that smells like BPD to me.
I desperately want to believe she’s unelectable. But I see a nation of too many frightened people who want EASY ANSWERS. They don’t want to think about what is behind those little slogans. Or what work needs to be put in to getting a result they want.
Hence the dichotomy between “evil big government spending” and “don’t you DARE means-test or cut MY social security”! (Personally, I don’t see why the cap for OASDI withholdings can’t be raised on those who earn up to $500,000/yr. I don’t even have a problem with their being no cap.)

About 10 years ago I had to deal with someone very much like Palin as I helped an author friend deal with a major case of plagiarism. The other author had plagiarized at least a hundred books, including 3 or 4 of my friend’s, to write her own books. She was clearly a legend in her own mind and acted as if she were queen. She was very attractive and could be quite sweet and charming, and because of that got away with a lot. But upon closer inspection it became clear that if her mouth was open, a lie was coming out of it. If anyone challenged her, her writing, or her credentials she asserted that they were either 1) jealous of her fame/beauty/knowledge/etc, or 2) just plain mean.
She had a very high opinion of herself, which masked, I think, a very low opinion of herself. In some ways she acted like a “split personality.” She also was the eternal victim, and exhibited symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder—no matter what happened or who did what, it was ultimately about her personally. According to her there were soooo many mean people who were just out to get her, out of sheer nastiness. When challenged publically, she had an amazing talent for grabbing hold of the conversation and redirecting it so that her challenger was put on the defensive. In private she would attack people behind their backs, spreading lies about them within the community, and gloating when they suffered misfortune.
One of the main things I learned from that episode in my life was that there’s a certain brand of dishonesty wherein you can figure out what the dishonest person is doing (or thinking to do) by listening to what they are accusing others of doing. Learning this has served me well over the years.
You are quite right. It is so sad that one might want to feel sorry for her, but for the damage she is doing to our country and our world. When I think of the Seven Deadly sins, Sarah Palin exemplifies all of them with a possible pass on Gluttony.

Vice President Biden said last night that (paraphrased) we should not take her threat for granted. Stranger things have happened than Palin being a major contender and becoming President. I think he was right to shake complacent Democrats and Independents and even moderate Republicans (are there any left?). I find it inconceivable on one level that she could have come so far so fast and almost horrific that she might get closer still.
I deeply wish she would simply go away. Vocal cords, do your job please – shut that woman up.

Good questions. Many of us are tempted to wonder if she can and does read, if she can understand what she does. My personal snarky opinion is that she may read – if it fits onto the screen of her Blackberry. She hangs onto that Blackberry like a teenager waiting for the captain of the team to call her at any moment.
I remember Candidate Obama being chided for his use of a Blackberry that he carried in a little belt pouch. Sarah has one-upped him on that though, she carries it in her claws almost continually. On the rare occasions when a photograph doesn’t show it, I have found myself wondering if it’s tucked into her hair or push-up bra.

I suspect the money people will be the last to be thrown over, but with her warped ego, I don’t think she can help herself if they get in her way. The GOP is going to be in for a surprise just as the Tea Party if either think they can make her bow to their wishes. I certainly hope that over-sized ego will finally smother her career. Being stubborn or headstrong can be an asset, but more often than not, it simply a person’s undoing.

Having never been published (or bothered to have someone write a book for me to publish) my take on this may be wrong. But wouldn’t it be more accurate to say that advance copies of the book were released for review/commentary by the publisher? They don’t release pages, they release advance copies. What Palinbots and Gawker, et al have done is review the book and posted the bits that are relevant to their reviews.
Or maybe I’m wrong?
Normally advanced copies are available for just those reasons.

That is pretty freakin’ standard for book publishers to do in order to get people excited enough to PURCHASE the book. Preferably the hardcovers. It’s done to PROMOTE the book–you lack-wit ($arah).

She is quite ignorant of the way the publishing industry works for someone who likes to claim to be an author. They always send out advance copies. Not only to reviewers but to sell it to bookstores too. She should attend a book expo sometimes and many authors do so, handing out copies of their books and signing them for/to industry insiders. It is how publishing works. What a silly wanker she is.
Of course if she doesn’t like it then she can just put that hat back on the shelf, it doesn’t fit anyway.

Alot of Americans wonder why the world cares so about their politics without realising that we care because it stuffs US up too! Australians have died because of GWB’s stupid decisions and John Howard’s cowardly alliance with America.
We care about this stuff America, coz if Palin gets in she will likely initiate an action against Iran. The ANZUS treaty puts us (and the rest of the world) in extremely hot water.
If America goes into a double dip recession (or maybe even a depression with how the new GOP House will handle legislation by CUTTING SPENDING in the middle of a RECESSION!!!) then the world goes too.
America’s economy is extremely important to smaller export dependent countries like Australia. Along with our Asian partners of China and Japan America is of upmost importance to our economy. Tiny countries like Australia and New Zealand are vulnerable. Hell, even European countries are extremely vulnerable.
But hey, this is me being rather optimistic here. If Palin gets into the White House we’d be damn lucky to make it to 2016 alive. I see the worlds survivors existing in a post nuclear-winter wasteland in the bush, hijacking petrol tankers for our new currency; oil!
I beg my sane Americans to do all they can to think of their responsibility to the world when it comes to voting day. Please for the love of god VOTE and vote SANE. And remember how very lucky you are to have a say in the direction the world goes because the vast majority of us don’t have a say; we vote in our little silly elections between leaders that are powerless against warmongering Presidents of the worlds most powerful country.
Most of the intelligent, open-minded and educated people in this country realize that there is no such thing as isolation in today’s world. Every country’s economy and policies have worldwide implications, and the well-being of the rest of the world must be taken into account when making important decisions.
Our President seems to understand this and also understands that diplomacy and negotiation are the most critical tools in our national security ‘arsenal’. The previous administration and most of the people in the current Republican and Tea Parties are too focused on the U.S. and unwilling or unable to take a wider view. They are quick to condemn and to retaliate, and perceive discussion and compromise as signs of weakness. I, too, fear what could happen if any of these knee-jerk reactionaries end up in the White House. When humanity has the ability to destroy itself several times over, it needs to learn to take a step back, breathe and think before pushing any buttons.
I can assure you that there are millions of Americans who are determined not to allow these volatile nutjobs anywhere near the Oval Office!

In SP’s world, racism, homophobia and class inequality does not exist. Therefore, she gets offended at anyone who suggests otherwise. She’s basically Rush Limbaugh in drag. Sarah Pallin’s comments are really not worth much consideration, beyond a reality check of how partison and “stupid” Palin really is.
What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something–for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction, and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.
What’s troubling is that we Barack Obama has turned out to be a fake. Michelle Obama may have said that Barack will feed the people who are hungry for a change. Of course that WAS true. But Barack dropped the ball in his first hundred days and has embraced the ideals of his predecessors to the point where a good friend wrote me to say that he thought Obama was a Republican “stealth” candidate. Pick your issue, “Net Neutrality,” Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan, military spending, the rule of law (with regard to war criminals), tax reform, financial reform – Obama has not put the words he mouthed as a candidate into action.
I don’t think Palin has a shot, but that’s not because of Obama.
I don’t think he is a fake – I think that those who elected him just about expected him to walk on water. We are the ones who got him in office, we are the ones who have to make the change happen. No individual, in any elected office, has enough power to do any number of the things we have hoped would happen. Anyone who was paying attention would not be surprised by many of his decisions. We have to provide the impetus for the changes we want to see, and cannot let up for any reason. We have no one else to blame in the end, if we don’t see things take shape as we had hoped. And frankly, we all spend way too much time fussing over Sarah Palin. The focus on her has taken the wind out of many positive efforts that could have been underway. We have to resist the emotional payoff of having someone to cast as the village idiot and get down to business.
Can we talk about what “pews” Sarah Palin was sitting in? Can Barack Obama or Michelle Obama write a desperate book trashing Palin by pointing out the radical, violent, un-american christian church she belonged to and play that video with the african preacher? No, because the Obamas have more class than that. So it’s not as if SP doesn’t live in a glass house, she does, except that rarely does anyone try to throw a truth brick through it in the MSM.

I had a conversation with my dear Grandfather, over 20 years ago now, that had to do with people who had way too much money. He died many years ago, but I would love to hear what he has to say about the Palin clan. I can guess. He was so full of Grace and class. This is what’s behind the American Idol competition criticism as well — all those people without talent? (Jennifer Hudson?) whose self-esteem is boosted artificially? Just read between the lines — she doesn’t want people of color to have self-esteem. That’s why she doesn’t see the irony of what she says while Bristol is in the same situation… in her mind, Bristol isn’t black so the criticism doesn’t apply.

Irishgirl, this is why I’ve maintained that Sarah is an Ugly Alaskan as much as an Ugly American, she loathes to d’il with Todd’s people and other Alaska Natives. She will ignore them when no one is looking, but when someone who counts with her is, she does. To prove how cool and down with going Native she is. You know, since her husband and children are native and they live with descrimination EVERY day.

To not think that maybe walking in the shoes of a black/African American woman in this country would be a different experience than hers.
