Batter Up!
We realize they have a bad reputation, but here in Alaska, these winged mammals eat more than 500 mosquitoes an hour, and that erases all bad reputation faster than you can say DEET.
And besides, he’s pink, with white fluff. And he’s grinning. The editorial board has declared that this is an adorable baby animal, and therefore if you gaze into his little pearly black eyes, you just might collate a little faster, grade papers a little more efficiently, or bang out a powerpoint in record time.

Awwww, SO cute! I LOVE bats.
These bats need serious help; there is a fungus that is killing them in great numbers- I think it’s an epidemic in the South/Southwest, damaging agriculture and the environment. To the best of my memory, scientists think it may be caused by cavers bringing in crud on their boots…
Go bats! 😉
White nose disease, caused by a fungus, has also decimated the bat population in NY. Dragonflies eat more than their weight in mosquitoes daily, but we need our bats, too.
Safety lies in numbers, always remember that. This little guy rhymes with yesterday’s little guy and I’m not partial to either species if I had my druthers. Today’s exhibit at least looks conscious which is all I had better say about that. Kinda cute actually,in a homely sorta way.
Had LBB’s eating the bugs out of the air around my face last summer. A little disconcerting, but really special experience. Came within a foot of my face. I have photographs.
My 8 yr old son swears to me he saw a bat yesterday a.m. on the way to school. I don’t doubt it as warm as its been!
When did bats start going to school?
Not only do they go to school up here, but they also seem to be elected to public office ; )
I love bats!
Not only do they munch down all those dang bugs, but they turn those bugs into the best fertilizer for my garden-ever. Even better than salmon fert (sorry fishies- you’re great but the silly looking lil bat dudes and dudettes win on this one )
I’ve never seen a picture of a bat baby before- awkwardly adorable
Go forth lil one. I won’t hold it against you that I am now suffering the first real symptoms of spring fever.
AKM did that all by her lonesome here reminding me of properly disposed of bugs in the form of the King of Fertilizers 🙂
