Mudflats on Countdown With Keith Olbermann! (Updated)

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

UPDATE:

Shannyn was great, as always, and will be back on the air again soon.  I’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, during her segment tonight, Shannyn told Mr. Olbermann about the book titles she and I were discussing today.  The title of my recent post on Palin’s book included one of my favorites – “The Audacity of Hype.”  And yes, I made Keith Olbermann giggle.  (I take a big sweeping bow and cross “Make Keith Olbermann giggle” off my bucket list).

*******************************************************

OK, not really…. But, Shannyn Moore will be on tonight, and we may have a potential Mudflats shout-out, which is pretty cool.

Baby steps…

Tune in, and blog it here since I am without TV in my current undisclosed location.

    Interesting stuff, aha.

But is working for oneself as one might do while writing a book the same as being self-employed? Just where is that line drawn?

  2. aha says:

Newsminer makes Celtic Diva’s case for her:

    Newsminer.com says:

“The ethics law defines compensation as “any money, thing of value or economic benefit … in return for services.” The book contract clearly fits that definition, while the PAC does not.

Regardless, neither a book contract nor a PAC could be called “employment.” The obvious intent of the act is to prevent the governor from being “employed” by someone other than the state and thus compromising her independence. In writing a book and forming a PAC, she is working for herself and no one else.”

Celtic Diva Says (regarding the Ethics Act definition of ”ordinary employment”:
“But wait…what is its “ordinary meaning?” Oh, there is an attachment (page 7) which gives a definition…how fortunate!

    3. What does “outside employment” include?

    • Any employment for which you are paid, but not your state employment.

    • Examples: a job with another employer, work as an independent contractor, and work in your own business.

  3. KaJo says:

I can completely believe Palin kept a series of journals — after the fact, of course, to keep all her lies straight.

All she had to do every time she opened her mouth to rant over and over was go back to those journals (which may well be on some sort of electronic record, like Microsoft Word, which has a “find” function) and see what prevarication of the truth she told the first time.

She has finally, boldly, declared that she “gave birth” to Trig rather than saying “I’m his mother”. She seems to be branching out into new territory with that one.

  4. Say NO to Palin in Politics says:

And what’s with the “personal video crew” in Indiana…….have I missed something? has the bad gov Scarah always had a “personal video crew”?

  5. Say NO to Palin in Politics says:

I wonder if anyone will now spill the beans about anything and everything Palin to mags for money, since Palin herself is cashing in others may find it acceptable also, too. I can only hope.

If the book is due out in one year, wouldn’t the bad to the bone gov have to be done writing it like in what, 3 months from now? so it can go through the revisions and editing process? what is the print time needed? has she been working on this book all along? are those journals actually the book? ah ha!

  6. AKRaven says:

What if Palin’s journals were supoenaed and she had to admit that there were none!

  7. greatgrammy1 says:

Sarah is so ignorant that she thinks all of her and Prejeans critics are liberals. I guess she still doesn’t read anything. A lot of the critics are from her own party. Critics have the same first amendment rights as she and they come from all parties and all walks of life. Stupid raised it’s head again.

  8. DrChill says:

“I was just talking to my friend Mudflats..”
    She called you Mudflats!

  9. Terpsichore says:

ooop … sorry about #99 – thought I was on the Open Thread. I’ll go take it over there if anyone wants to reply.

  10. Terpsichore says:

    Iacoov #98: LOL!!!

If Barnett gets one penny from the AFT, wouldn’t that be fraud?

    And here’s another hypothetical:

What if SP’s advance on the book is $500,000.

Lrt’s say she banks it, then at the appropriate time donates it to her own campaign (let’s say for governor).

Let’s say enough people donate to the AFT to raise $500,000.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but donations to the AFT as NOT tax deductable, whereas donations to political campaigns are, Y/N?

    If yes, then …

If SP pays off her lawyer bills with Fund Trust money but donates $500,000 to her own campaign (is that tax deductable to her?), then what she’s doing is she’s robbing the American people of $500,000 worth of tax deductions, money that could be in their own pockets!

The right thing to do (IMO) would be to pay off the laywer bills with that advance, and then, at the appropriate time, to encourage people to donate to her campaign so their gifts can be tax deductible for the donor.

  11. lacoov says:

Between homework, housework and babysitting Trigg Piper is going to have to scurry to get this book written.

I think Mr Olbermann has a little crush on Shannyn. He giggled the whole interview, and I think he was blushing a bit.
    ______________

Nothing wrong with that. He’s doing a good thing by covering things in Alaska and Shannyn is a good color commentator for that.

  13. kimba says:

I think Mr Olbermann has a little crush on Shannyn. He giggled the whole interview, and I think he was blushing a bit. Funny.

  14. Irishgirl says:

Shannyn was great and I loved that she gave you a shout out!

  15. Judi says:

Loved Shannyn on KO…she was witty, funny and right on target as usual

When she mentioned mudflats I cheered so loud I am sure you could hear me all the way up in Alaska…

    yahoo mudflats on ko!!

  16. austintx says:

Hey – I like the “hot nerdette” thing Shannyn had going on. She is smart and beautiful. Go Shannyn !! Gave mudflats a shoutout. Whats not to love ??

    Hey Shannyn,
    Nice cleavage…sheesh.
    ———————————-
I saw that, too, but I figured that the ‘arranging’ was done by production people (did you note where the mic was?) and that there were no studio monitors. But she still looked great. And – frankly – if Shannyn wears glasses, why should she take them off for a TV interview?

  18. aha says:

    Hey Shannyn,

    Nice cleavage…sheesh.

  19. Aussie Blue Sky says:

Wasn’t it nice having Shannyn referred to as a radio host? I’m sure KBYR is thrilled having their name plastered over a national TV interview. I doubt anyone is going to interview Burke the Loser on national TV any time soon.

  21. honestyinGov says:

Tonights David Letterman’s Top Ten (Wed. night)

Top ten things revealed in Sarah Palins new memoir Book.
He had some really good ones.
One example… ” memoir was misspelled” (should be able to find it on HuffPo )

I hope Palin does say something about Couric because David and Katie get along real good when she has been a guest. David would go after Palin…. just like he did with McCain when he canceled on him.
Palin would regret she ever said a thing about Couric. (BUT… I hope she does 😉 )

  22. Polly says:

Good point BucFan. When writing one’s memoirs or autobiograpy, why would you use a collaborator? Unless you are changing your life’s story. More weirdness from Palin.

  23. BTW – I read that the book will be published by the arm of Harper Collins that publishes books for the Christian market. Evidently this is intended to be more of a faith story than a political tome. I haven’t seen that mentioned elsewhere but it was in an early press story about the book. I am surprised that hasn’t been mentioned elsewhere.

  24. Barnett is her representative for the book deal. He has represented other public figures in the past. Van Flein is her local attorney for whatever else is going on, I guess!

I do have to give a nod to Bucfan – don’t want to pick on our friends but would have to tease Shannon a bit about having glasses that match Oberman’s – kind of cute. Do they actually look alike….twins separated at birth? OK – enough of that but I am sure it will be mentioned elsewhere in not as friendly tones. eek.

  25. Bucfan says:

Okay, first of all, regarding Shannyn, what is with the glasses? And the cleavage? Is she coming on to Keith? Stephanie Miller will be ticked. But seriously, did anyone else do a double take when Keith mentioned Palin’s lawyer and it wasn’t Van Flein? I googled Robert Barnett and one web site refers to him as “a superstar Washington (DC) attorney. Wonder who else he represents? And she has the outline in her mind? Does her mind even have an outline? And she will have a collaborator? Makes it sound like she is doing something illegal. It’s late and I am rambling like Larry King. Good night

  26. Lee323 says:

Now let me get this straight…..

Palin is pleased as punch to be writing a book using her “personal” journals……… but she’s dragging her heels on turning over the personal emails about state business on a private account????

I can’t speak for anyone else….but I would much rather read those sequestered emails about state business than read some doctored slop about her personal travails regarding her pregnancy, her daughter’s pregnancy, the RNC wardrobe, how misunderstood she is……yawn.

  27. shilo442 says:

Gino’s book deal, I think she knows she has no chance in the political ring anymore, she’ll take the money and JET SET. I also think that how conniving Gino is she is being brainwashed and used by Greta and hubby and she’s too stupid to know it. She has met the devil in disquise. It’s going to be interesting to see how these 3 cancel each other out.

  28. Doggonit says:

    Breaking News – Washington Post…..

Sarah Palin re-appeared on the national stage tonight, jumping to the defense of a beauty pageant contestant.

“The liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against [Miss California] Carrie Prejean for expressing her opinion is despicable,” said Palin.

    ——

Ah poor Palin doesn’t understand first amendment rights apply to critics and liberals, too, also, and.

  31. BigSlick says:

    Subpoena GINO’s journals!

  32. AKMFan says:

I don’t think this is OT for this thread.

I wonder how her loyal minions feel about the fact that earlier this week, there appeared to be a big push from Kristan Cole for money for the AFT/legal bills.

Something like we need to get these bills paid off in a hurry so SP can get back to doing her job and not worry about them (paraphrasing there).

Now, only a few days after that, we hear she had a book deal. While she won’t tell the amount (and I suspect this is because it’s a largeish amount), she clearly is getting money for it and that money could have been used to pay her own legal bills.

I wonder if any of them ever feel like they have been taken. This was clearly a ploy to get as much $$ as she could before this news got out and donations dry up. You don’t make a book deal overnight so they had to know this was coming out this week (or at least soon).

The hubris of this woman knows no bounds!

  33. honestyinGov says:

I found this story on the Wash. Post.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin re-appeared on the national stage tonight, jumping to the defense of a beauty pageant contestant who has been at the center of a media feeding frenzy in recent days.
    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/eye-on-2012/palin-sounds-off-on-prejean.html?wprss=thefix

If GINO has spoken out tonight…. where was this at…? Was it a TV interview… or a phone interview..? How did she give it.

  34. seattlefan says:

About those journals she has been keeping….ya think they are “ghost written” as well? I would love to see her journals and her disjointed thoughts. Woo Hoo! This is going to be a hoot. If her memoirs and journals exhibit proper and good diction, we all know the jig is up! I for one, can’t wait to see this stuff!

  35. pearl89 says:

While reading the comments on HuffPo about Palin’s book, I came across an idea that appealed to me very much. The gist of the idea was to donate price of the book to her opponent. I guess if she’s doesn’t run for anything, the donation could go to the DNC or a candidate of your choice. After making the donation, send an email or twitter to Palin informing her of your donation.

The author suggested something like…instead of wasting money on your book, I invested it in this (insert picture of her opponent). I just hope the Coleman/Franken mess is resolved by then as I am sending a dollar a day to Franken until that whole mess is resolved.

  36. wired differently says:

Now watching KO on the tubes. Not only is Shannyn great, but I heart Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. Any Mudpuppies from Rhode Island???

  37. Martha says:

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Shannyn comes across very well. KO is my fav, then Rachel Maddow. Chris Matthews had a very good take on Palins book tonight too.

    Excerpt and link;

Chris Matthews On Palin Book Deal: “What An Embarrassment”
    by Nicholas Graham

While Palin will surely be able to get huge amounts of press when her book comes out, Matthews makes the good point that the questions that haunt you are not the ones that you give an honest if unpopular answer to, but the ones to which you should know the answer but don’t. Matthews thinks these will be problems when Palin does press for her new book because she’ll be asked questions like “How did you write this book? Did you write it by long hand, on a laptop? Or actually did you not write this?”

Matthews’ ultimate advice to Palin is to play to her strengths giving speeches instead of “pretending to write a book.”

  38. seattlefan says:

What a great day for the Mudflats! I had fun (submitted way too many book titles and I still have more, but am holding back!!!), learned how to help our flood victims and saw some tee vee recognition and giggling about AKM. Woo Hoo!! Here in Seattle, the sun should be going down, but because of the cloud cover you would never know it so I am celebrating a virtual sundown and a happy end of the day!

  39. PalinSucks says:

People Magazine guy said, Palin, does not sell magazines. Her empty tabloid press is not being overlooked by the mogul publisher guy. There is nothing here but a SCAM going on, like has been reported about transferring funds via a B*S* title to a campaign or other dubious account.

This being fact…Palin is not being given gazillions of dollars.

Apparently she has no one who cares to warn her she is a PAWN and with her nose so high in the air, she doesn’t notice. The fall, when it comes, is gonna be HARD!!!

  40. Keith reads all the Alaska blogs…at least he did during the campaign 😀

  41. marcus2 says:

In general people know Sarah Palin can’t string a sentence together and will always remember her disastrous interviews. Her spin will not block that out.

  42. Priceless says:

Woodstove, not only that, her fancy 6 yr degree did not help her when she was a deer n the headlights with Couric!

  43. Priceless says:

Ok. Using the word ‘Gentleman’ and ‘Todd Palin’ in the same sentance is just so wrong on so many levels. Grifter? yea. Kept man? check. But never is he a Gentleman, and fer sure, not a first gentleman!

  44. woodstove says:

She keeps a journal? A degree in journalism? Are there any articles anywhere that Sarah has penned? And now she is poised to write a book that is destined to be a best seller. Praise God!!! Maybe God will be the ghost writer. I hope the truth is patient and she tells and sells her lies. The God that laughs last is the God that laughs best.

  45. PalinSucks says:

Lol, now that they got him in a tie he is a, “Gentleman”. LMAO, moreover at the new interest in literacy. Is this the 1st annual book thingy cause I am finding absolutely NADA on the State of Alaska site for the past two years he ever did anything with books, children or schools.

Palin has been “journaling”…guess that’s what she thinks “journalism” is all about. My journalism degrees (BA & MA) prepared me to be a reporter and an editor. Who knew all I had to do was keep writing journals and save my time and money by actually pursuing higher education.
    *sigh*

  48. Aussie Blue Sky says:

haha, Palin might call it a personal journal ….. I call it a hit list!

There is such a misconception (Due in majority to Palin’s flaunting ignorance and bigotry) citizens outside metro, AK…especially in the bush are backwards, unable to do much more then drool. Outstanding opportunity for the nation to peek at mudflats for a true testament to the brilliance, dignity, humor, decency, kindness and community of TRUE ALASKANS!!!

  75. curiouser says:

KO & Shannyn talked about the Palin journals. Does anyone else believe that she didn’t really keep a journal? I think it’s more likely that she created a journal after the fact to help her devise her story, keep it straight and have something to give a publisher to ‘prove’ her story.
