Bob Poe Uses the “N” Word! (….no not THAT one)

Add another voice to the growing number of Alaskans who have just had it up to their eyeballs with the governor’s rejection of stimulus money designated for energy efficiency.  Beyond the slap-in-the-face obvious fact that this is Alaska, and might just be a good idea to promote energy efficiency, you’d have to have your head in a bag to not “get” that this has nothing to do with Alaska, nothing to do with our economy, and everything to do with a certain governor’s dreams of grandeur, and higher political aspirations.

And all that can be bundled up in one handy little word. OK, medium-sized word.  Alaska’s “N” word…”narcissistic.” And it’s a word that gubernatorial candidate Bob Poe is not afraid to use.

“Once again Governor Palin has demonstrated her narcissistic governance of Alaska by becoming the only Governor in America to reject federal stimulus funds to promote energy efficiency. These are funds that not only help stimulate a growing base of alternative energy companies in Alaska, but which would pay dividends in additional energy cost savings for many years to come.”

Poe added, “This is just a cynical way for Palin to save a little face nationally in her earlier much touted stand to reject as much as 40% of the federal stimulus funds. Considering that one third of Alaska’s current economy depends on federal spending, it further underlines the Governor’s remarkable lack of understanding of the economic underpinnings that have helped our state avoid many of the economic difficulties currently experienced by many others.”

“But perhaps the most striking aspect of this veto is to contrast it to $1,200 Palin paid out last year to every man, woman and child in Alaska for energy assistance, boosting everyone’s Permanent Fund dividend to $3,200, and raising her popularity to record levels helping secure her as the Vice Presidential running mate pick with Senator John McCain. Apparently, when it suits the Governor’s purpose she will happily spend Alaska’s resources, and again when it meets her political needs she will reject very useful federal stimulus funds for Alaskans,” Poe added.

Poe concluded, “Governor Palin’s choice to veto federal stimulus funds for energy efficiency should leave no doubt in voters’ minds that her highest priority is not Alaska, but her run for President in 2012.”

“But who is this still semi-mysterious Bob Poe?” some Alaskans may still be asking.  Just some guy who sounds like he knows what he’s talking about?”

Mr. Poe, You are setting a precedence of good-natured openness and transparency. Refreshing, indeed! Thank you so very much.

Chaim @ 48, that is a very interesting thought.

For example, I’m convinced, from reading sports-related comments at C4pee, that the majority of followers there are male (and there are certainly enough comments about her looks there to make me think that that perception is accurate).

So why might these men still have the ‘blindness’ described by Dan Fagan (of all people!)

You answer it: “men don’t, in their gut, realize that a woman in a position of power actually has the same power a man would have and is just as dangerous.”

They do think she’s some sort of goddess (why, that’s only two letters away from ‘goodness’!), they do think she’s the Madonna (I mean, at least among those that would say ‘we’ think of Obama as The Messiah). and they do not think she is dangerous.

I know I speak for many women when I say we are not scared of her, we do not feel threatened by her, and we are not jealous of her.

  4. Chaim says:

Couldn’t help altering Poe’s words to read, “when it suits the Governor’s pur[e] pose …..

NMJ: Can’t help thinking that part of the reluctance to show outrage is because SP is a woman, most politicians are men, and chivalry is not quite dead, especially in conservative places like Alaska. If you want a more feminist spin (I am male) it could be because men don’t, in their gut, realize that a woman in a position of power actually has the same power a man would have and is just as dangerous. Women’s outrage with SP has been open and strong from the beginning, and men have been learning from them.

  5. What a refreshing change from Palin. I think he is going to be the one to turn this state around..I too wonder why no one has instigated impeachment proceedings against Palin. I will definately sign a recall petition. I love mudflats.

  6. BooBooBear says:

Her team of barbarian kool-aid drinkers are so confident in their LEADER that they artificially stuff the ballot box of every online poll. The latest call to action is a result of the US News poll, “Who is the greatest political threat to Obama?” This morning Palin was at 9% (which I think is realistic)…her loyal followers put out the call on all her websites to get out and sit on their computers for hours and vote repeatedly for Sarah. Funny to watch how desperate they are to make her look more poplualr than she really is. What they don’t realize is that is all artificial….it will not hold up in the ballot box. Blind allegiance. They will all learn ….someday very soon, that they have all been mislead. Really ridiculous what people believe, isn’t it? Her numbers are up but it is all smoke and mirrors……kinda appropriate.

  7. Gemini says:

I’m kind of thinking that SP may not run for any office in the future … True, she really seems to need the ‘attention’ that holding political office would bring, but I’m suspecting she surely realizes by now that failure would be a very good possibility. One more failure might be the end of any further aspirations, i.e., book sales, speaking fees for various organizations, fund-raising tours for RNC. Sarah seems to need to maintain a sense of self-importance, and those things may not be what she’d have hoped for, but they still might be enough to satisfy those narcissistic tendencies she appears to have.

  8. Robin says:

No offense to those of you who wisely live in manufactured homes, but this is trailer park trash

  9. michigander says:

If Alaskans quit putting up with Palin and started a recall it would destroy her political career. The rest of the country would know the truth and be saved from her BS.

Bob Poe will be great for Alaska but what about Palin’s future? She obviously isn’t running for Gov again so please do something about her )o:

  11. Terpsichore says:

“I’m sure glad that interview with her and Gibson were done, it really showed her stupidity and mantality.”

Even better, Here in PA @36, that lovely quote was not from that nasty gotcha liberal MS media, but pro-republican John Ziegler’s video explaining how Obama “stole” the 2008 election with the help of biased media. So either Palin can’t complain that she was “taken out of context”, or she has to complain that Ziegler’s media piece is also … well … biased.

Supposedly that interview was meant to get “her side of the story out”, and it did in some extent as far as trying to dampen spin on certain things from the canmpaign, but her actual verbiage was in the main very non-presidential (or even gubernatorial), the Katie Couric remark being of course the worst.

We can all make gaffes when speaking extemporaneaously, but this remark, like her choice of words in not just speeches and interviews, but written press releases as well (what public official calls something ‘bogus’?) reveals the mentality of how she thinks about everything, and that level is apparently stuck somewhere in high school.

And she reduces things too often to a game, a basketball game, where one team wins and one team loses, and she by golly does not like to be with losers! Instead of recognizing that most of governing has to do with bullding consensus, that most people ultimately have common goals – the abortion issue is one of those. Who on either side of the debate doesn’t agree we want to see fewer (none, ideally) abortions in this country? What we disagree on is HOW that can best be accomplished without creating laws that will ultimately be either unenforceable (so no point in passing them) or miring our justice system in something that would grow government beyond belief (if those laws were enforced) and very much extend government into our private lives.

What was my point? Oh yes. Sarah Palin is not mentally old enough to be president. Or, probably governor. But to get this back On Topic, it seems from what I’ve seen that Bob Poe is.

    FWIW….an interesting astology confirmation.
In Palin’s astrology chart, the asteroid Narcissus is right smack dab next to Venus (beauty, relationships). Both are positioned at a significant point of public projection. Also nearby (depending on what time she was born) are Sphinx (secrets & mysteries) and Hercules (performed great deeds, you don’t want to be his enemy, he killed his offspring).

You can’t make this stuff up.

Thanks curiouser…I did her chart on the astrodiest online site using the the 9:43 pm, but they don’t have asteroids. Do you have Bob Poes info? It would be interesting to compare the two. 8)

BP, you rock! Finally, some appropriate, legitimate outrage!

Has any legislator ever expressed direct outrage at SP? I’m beginning to suspect that vaunted courtesy Alaskans are so proud of is often taken to the extreme…in which case, it’s not courtesy at all, just a numbing of the senses. You can’t put a damper on one emotion all the time without it damping all emotions. It’s possible to be outraged without being rude…witness Bob Poe!

My mother-in-law never cries; she says if she cries, it just makes her feel worse. Not surprisingly, she also never gets angry, never has a good belly laugh, is never impatient, never gets excited, never has a sense of wonder, etc. Not expressing sadness has made her entire emotional spectrum a near flat line.

Maybe the legislators should practice being outraged at SP. Just baby steps at first…like writing it down. Then they could practice with a mirror. I’d say, start with 15 seconds, and build up.

It was pretty bold of Poe to use the “N” word. I have the feeling it was thought out and calculated, rather than just something that fell out of his mouth like things seem to do too often with Sarah “Katie, you’re not the center of everyone’s universe” Palin. (Egads, that alone would ensure she never got my vote. Simply childish. But I digress … )
    ————————————————————
I totally agree there, that keeps coming back to me too. The part about her sacastic remark, “Katie, you not the center of everyones universe”. I thought that just made her look childish and vindictive. Katie did nothing wrong to her except ask her some simple questions a second grader could have answered. I’m sure glad that interview with her and Gibson were done, it really showed her stupidity and mantality.

I sure hope Mr. Poe gets his comments quoted in the AK newspapers so that fellow Alaskans will here his words.
He should do some interviews and put his comments in the Nat’l Press as well as the Lower 48 blogs as well. His opinions need to get some legs and spread.
GINO needs to be totally embarrassed for her latest stunt.
Can you imagine GINO and Palin in a debate….? I’d tune in to watch.

AKM…. is there a website or email address that you can post where we can email to give him our support…? The time to act is NOW!

Bob Poe is on Facebook! I guess until he goes into full on campaign mode that will be a way to keep in touch with him. He seems like such a good person honestly concerned for Alaskans!
I do believe Shannyn will be on in just a little more than 40 mins.

It’s so encouraging to know that there are committed public servants all across our country.
    ************************************************************************************
Better committed than commitable, I say. MsBuffalo, we’ll just have to find a New Yorker like Poe for you guys. And then we can find a decent Governor for Arizona. Since Janet Napolitano left it has been chaos here.

  20. Thomas Mullen says:

I would just like to say (even tho I’m not an Alasken) Bob Poe is the kind of guy I would like to have on my side,in the private sector or Govt.He obvously does have the credentials.

Good for Bob Poe. Others need to be much stronger and call her on her sick and destructive actions! It is so obvious that ALL she cares about is running for president! It is way way too early and all of her ignorant nasty press releases and narcissistic actions are going to come back and bite her!
No offense to Alaskans, and maybe I am naive, but why is everyone in Alaska putting up with her??

  22. AlaskaGuy says:

(Egads, that alone would ensure she never got my vote. Simply childish. But I digress … )

I think Poe has a very good strategy in mind. He’s giving himself more time to fundraise by announcing his run early, and is giving himself more time to let people find out who he is, since he’s relatively unknown, as far as elected positions go.

I think he is actually being just a hair cheeky here (and he can afford to be) because at the end of the day, using the “N” word is an accurate desciption of someone who behaves in the way that she appears to be behaving – he’s right. No matter what’s going on in her strange little brain, rejecting the portion of the stimulus money for energy efficiency does not create the APPEARANCE that she cares about Alaskans. So I truly think Poe is trying to bait her a little bit. I think it’s a prod, and I think a needed one, to get her to come out about her intentions for what she plans to run for in the near future – if anything.

I can understand why she might not be ready to commit for a Presidential run in 2012 or 2016 – it’s a big decision. But she needs to decide soon whether she intends to run again for governor in 2010. How hard a decision can it be?

In fact, I’m going to nip off right now and write up a little flow chart for her to help her.

    I shall return.

But even if my theories are all full of crap, good job Bob Poe for coming out and daring to be direct about what you really think.

  27. lilybart says:

How can she run for president if she does not run for and get reelected? She has done NOTHING since all her lies about her experience in the 2008 election.

  28. Cathy from Colorado says:

Nice post and I agree with the above comments.

As an aside, has anyone asked GINO why she rejected the funds based on false information and/or flawed thinking. In my opinion, she needs to be held accountable and explain her rationale, if she can’t, that should be a big issue for all Alaskans.

  32. Ripley in CT says:

Bob Poe: the great white hope. All of us can only wish that Mr. Poe challenges GINO in the next election. He’s something else. If people listen to what he’s saying up there, he’ll win for sure.

  34. Karin in CT says:

A lot of Alaskans had a rude awakening at tax time when the reality of paying taxes on our extra-large dividend plus the “energy relief” check came due.
