Open Thread: Alaska Girls

A friend sent me this intriguing movie poster the other day.

10301501_10203804567133304_1708326830640412468_n-1

Which of course meant that I had to find out about this movie, it looks fantastic. Unfortunately after spending far too long investigating I came up with no such film. There was a film called “Dragstrip Girls” staring Fay Spain who IMDB describes as “your typical B-movie drive-in bad girl – sometimes blonde, sometimes brunette, always bodacious.” After doing a reverse image search I found the awesome movie poster below, which someone photoshopped.Β Also, the fantastic sounding trailer… which I think we need to do a remake of.

I see over on C4P someone posted a picture of her son with Downs in a cap and gown from pre-school graduation. Graduation from pre-school? Seriously?

  2. mike from iowa says:

Ms Beth, miss you terribly. Hope all is well.:) πŸ™‚

  3. mike from iowa says:

Koch bros have nearly the perfect money making scam going in South Dakota. Dakota wingnuts pay all ALEC dues for all SD legislators out of tax revenues and then spend tax payer dollars to attend ALEC symposiums to learn how to give the koch bros more taxpayer dollars. They probably own the concession rights at ALEC symposiums as well.

“mudpups”, Spring and birds and Mudflats!!! Where can I find Shannyn Moore on the air, in print (other than and)? (My health has created some down time for me.) My ‘podbeam’ doesn’t work. Any help…. n

      • Pinwheel says:

Thanx, mike from iowa. Glad to know. 1080 is where I was introduced to progressive radio in Alaska 7 yrs ago. I haven’t been back to KUDO since the Unions bowed out. Still looking for guidance, here. n

      • mike from iowa says:

Up where,Sir? One of us is missing something.

lockheed laser boat…. doesn’t look like much, but it really is hard to do….

          • mike from iowa says:

That is so kewl,Ben! Got one for raggits? Hopefully the one for bunnies has more knockdown power. Don’t want kamikaze raggits crashing into any wooden structures or hay bales around here.. πŸ™‚

            • benlomond2 says:

nee-ner, nee-ner,, I have tomatoes !!! 2 of them !… little at the moment, but definitely two round tomatoes…. will have to camp out with shotgun now… pesky deer still jumping the fence… maybe I can electrify the wire fence……
gawd, and it’s only deer, mooses must be 10 times worse !!

    Mike from Iowa:

I love your state! I’m in Ohio but have visited about five times in the past seven years, doing
    research on a book.

Been to Loess Hills, McGregor, Fort Madison, Lincoln Highway. Wonderful scenery and great people
    in the Hawkeye state!

    • mike from iowa says:

Glad you like iowa. You won’t find many Loess Hills around. McGregor and the Loess Hills are about as far apart in iowa as you can get.

  7. mike from iowa says:

Mudflatter Zyxomma needs all the good vibes from her friends here and everywhere. She has her first job interview in a year, today,I believe. Let’s all send her the very best vibes and love we can. Thanks to all.

  8. mike from iowa says:

Does it bother anyone to know that young American men and women will receive their “baptism” under attack by terrorist suspects because the half-guv,quitter needed a cheap throw away laugh line while regaling testosterone addled, mostly white males armed to the teeth? Our bravest will pay the ultimate price so the grifter can get overpaid to spew venom. Ain’t ‘murrica great?

  9. Where were they when I was a teenager up there? Oh wait, now I remember: The Strip!

  10. mike from iowa says:

    If you dont want to smile,then don’t,damnit! πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

  11. mike from iowa says:

First confirmed sighting of barn swallows on May 6th. Means spring actually has sprung in iowa.Got half pound of sweet corn seed(free) to plant. Yellow stuff and bi-color. From the number of coons I see running around buildings so far,I might need another half pound of free seed. Smile, damn you! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    • Alaska Pi says:

I have been smiling a lot.
Watching lil hands pat the earth over newly planted peas, answering questions about whether worms are our friends, counting blossoms on the blueberry bushes…
Did you know it is ONE hundred? Not A hundred…
It is strange-this place of trees which drop their leaves and the sun comes up over the ocean, which is all backwards.
There are birds I’ve only seen in photographs-like the lovely red cardinal and some kind of dove.
There are no mountains nor waterfalls but a vast marsh full of geese and deer and trees I don’t know .
Watching the grands make their way safely and happily around this place of their home has been lovely.
They have told me tales of lizards and frogs and dragons and danced and sung just because.I had forgotten the joy of just because.
Today I saw a raven. ( Why ever do they get called Common ?) It is time to come home

      • mike from iowa says:

So,what you are saying is you are having fun? Always thought it was a hunnert. Shows what a good iowa idjication does for one. Be most excellent to have you back, but I hope you stay until you get your fill of Grands and other of life’s pleasures you can’t find in your beloved forest with bears. Not to be a trouble maker-would anyone notice if Grands stowed away in your luggage and woke up in your forest with bears?:)

        • Alaska Pi says:

          Yes,I am having fun. πŸ˜€
Even dealing with the shock on the face of the lil one when Gran cavalierly skipped on by naming which hundred she was talking about was fun.Reminders about the seriousness of naming that which surrounds us ,the putting of our feet on the ground we walk and bringing our eyes into focus on particulars on the horizon, coming from young practitioners is a sober but joyous experience in itself.
They count on me not be lazy and skip over details to get to the end. They want the whole story.
(I’ve had to laugh at times and fess up that I have forgotten pieces of the story- they are very forgiving of THAT frailty, thank heavens!)
I don’t think I could get off the property with stowaway grands.Dang. Son of Pi and beloved DIL are tuned into those lil hearts to the nth degree and seem to use it like a kidlet GPS tracker dealie.
I will be happy to be home with mountains and waterfalls and a forest which I know but I am going to miss all the kidly stuff terribly.

You could find any number of idiotic wingnuts spouting idiotic stuff every day and still not scratch the surface of how idiotic wingnuts rilly are.

You prolly shouldn’t do this either, not if you cherish your daughters or sisters or wives or Mothers..

  14. Zyxomma says:

Loved that trailer! Prefer the poster for Alaska Girl (more original).
