ADN.com – Rare visit from Interior secretary, top politicians puts Kivalina in the spotlight

A climate-imperiled village fearful that it could one day be wiped off the Alaska map will receive a high-profile visit early next week from Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and a flock of Alaska politicians furious over recent efforts to limit oil and gas development in Alaska.

Bloomberg – The White House Walks Away from Clean Coal

On the banks of the Illinois River, about 60 miles west of the state capital in Springfield, an old coal-fired power plant sits waiting for its future to arrive. First opened in 1948, it’s been dormant since 2011, when its owner, St. Louis-based Ameren, shut down the plant rather than retrofit it to meet federal standards. Last year workers came to give it a makeover. Using almost $1 billion in stimulus money, the project was supposed to become the poster child for clean-coal technology.

Tens of thousands of Muslims are fleeing to neighboring countries by plane and truck as Christian militias stage brutal attacks, shattering the social fabric of this war-ravaged nation.

Truthout – Deep in the Amazon, a Tiny Tribe Is Beating Big Oil

Patricia Gualinga stands serenely as chaos swirls about her. I find this petite woman with striking black and red face paint at the head of the People’s Climate March in New York City on September 21, 2014. She is adorned with earrings made of brilliant bird feathers and a thick necklace of yellow and blue beads. She has come here from Sarayaku, a community deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.

Since wingnuts claim the 2nd amendment has no infringements, all women and girls out there be prepared to have handguns transplanted into your uterus so if you do become pregnant, your child will have it’s very own gun birthright. You will have no say in the matter once the activist, wingnut Scotus decides in the NRA’s favor.

For children already born, you will provide a gun to take to school or daycare or else the NRA will provide one for each child at exhorbitant cost, because afterall, any project worth doing should reap the do-ers a handsome profit.

  2. mike from iowa says:

Never should the question be asked if wingnuts can get any dumber. They take that as a challenge.

    • mike from iowa says:

This South Dakota wingnut is a real beaut.

On a lighter note. Happy Birthday to my Number 1 Nephew who turns 51 today. Kurt has MS and is not faring well. Hopefully he can make it back to iowa in September for one more family reunion.

  3. Dagian says:

I’m so sorry that Alaska lost Mr. Attla too soon and to B-cell lymphoma. Clearly it was the only disease that could stop him. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, fans and admirers.

Okay – forgive me for mentioning this but I was watching television and TMZ is going to be roasting Sarah Palin tonight. I might even skip Doc Martin to hear what they have to say.

Touching and informative (42 minute) video about a youngster born in a boy’s body with a girl’s brain. And of course wingnuts have to get involved in her life because they can’t help themselves.

    • slipstream says:

Yep. The wingnuts say they want less government regulation over our lives and increased individual freedom. But their actions are the opposite. Think about Jeb Bush passing a law to keep Terri Schiavo hooked to a machine against her husband’s decision. Could you have a more intrusive government?

Hypocrites and liars, that’s what they are.

BTW, mikey, 46 degrees in Anchorage this afternoon.

      • mike from iowa says:

Thanks,Slip. It is minus 1 @ 3:42 AM mikey time. Supposed to be minus 6 by sunrise. I’m changing iowa’s moniker to notAlaska. Maybe global warming will pick up on this.

        • mike from iowa says:

Minus 4 tonight and then maybe 30 for tomorrow,Slipstream. Things are looking up.

Arizona wingnuts redefining “open meetings” law.

Oh cruel fate. What was Ma Nature thinking when she denied penguins ice cream?

    Mirror,mirror on the wall
Whose the most pissed-off of all
Could it be the lass Ms Swift
    or half-term guv Sarah Grift?

Please vote. ‘murrica depends on democracy.

This bitumen pipeline was built in 2007 and I had heard nothing about it until yesterday. It is a bigger pipe than KXL and has had none of the attention paid to it. Handles 400k barrels per day and will be handling 1.2 million barrels per day.

  9. juneaudream says:

It is..the George Attla, Jrs..of this world..who keep the fabric of..humanity..in sight..for good and caring people. As to a previous comment of mine..about used under garments/socks..etc. erase that..from your minds..and keep the focus upon the truly golden gift..anywhere..on earth..the gift of grit, love of heritage and intelligent ability to serve the community and extended..community. Bless his passage..down the trail..ahead of us.

  10. Zyxomma says:

Netanyahu is a jerk. I don’t know what Netan means, but yahu fits him to a T. I know he feels inferior — his brother was the hero of Entebbe, and his father is a brilliant scholar and author. He does not speak for all Jews. He certainly does not speak for me.

    • Dagian says:

Don’t fret, Zyxomma. Netanyahu doesn’t speak for everyone who is Jewish anymore than Boyd William Thomas speaks for every right wing Republican. There is no group without its cringe-worthy members.
