Anchorage Public Testimony on Non-Discrimination Ordinance – Chapter III.

Today, Anchorage’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance is being discussed for the third time in the Assembly Chambers. If you’re not up to speed, I’ve recently written several posts on the subject.

If you are in Anchorage, please come to show support for the ordinance. Even if you don’t testify, your presence can be felt, and it’s an eye-opening experience to witness the goings on first hand.

You can stream the Assembly meeting live HERE.

Use this thread to live blog the event. This is the one where Jerry Prevo of the Anchorage Baptist Temple has canceled the Wednesday night service so members can “overwhelm” the Assembly.

Testimony goes from 4pm – 10pm Alaska time (5-11 Pacific, 8-midnight Eastern)

Take a deep breath…

    because I can. 😎

Just read all the rest of the posts.

I just can’t believe there were SOOOOOOO many hateful, discriminatory folks out there throwing God into the mix. I’m pretty sure God would be VERY angry with these folks.

Now that I’m sober and the hangover is subsiding, I’m still at a complete loss on the whole bathroom thing. Don’t men and women use the same bathrooms in their own houses? So what’s the big deal if a guy walks into a Ladies’ room with a dress on? I hardly think it will scar the little ones for life. But really, I doubt that would happen JUST because the ordinance passes. It will happen REGARDLESS of the ordinance. Just sayin’.

Sidenote: My girlfriends and I have used the Mens’ rooms MANY a time at crowded sports or concert venues, in emergency, when the Ladies’ lines were too long to avoid an accident. Guess what!? NO ONE, not the guys, not the gals, had a problem with that. NO ONE. The guys were even nice enough to let us go first on occasion. OK… we did have one problem. Guys are absolute pigs in public restrooms. It’s disgusting to witness. God, they’re messy!!!

Finally, wouldn’t these folks RATHER the gays have homes and a way to pay for them? This would keep them off the streets where they do all that nasty gay stuff.

No one – and I mean NO ONE – thinks more about the sexual habits of others than this group of degenerates. I’m sure gays go to work just like the rest of us and don’t think about what kind of sex the straights are having all day.

This is just absurd. Can’t wait for Tuesday for more peeing in my pants laughter with all you fine folks. That was the best chuckle I’ve had in MONTHS! Thanks, all, for your intelligent and witty commentary. I’m going to try to live stream it next time so I can really get into it.

    XOXO

  3. Polly says:

I don’t know what the stats are now, but decades ago there was a high rate of gay suicides. You can see why. If a child was raised under such false beliefs that being gay is a choice from parents that are so vicious and hateful regarding homosexuality. There really is very little hope for the Red’s because they will only be fraternizing with like-minded people, unless they broaden their horizons and sphere.

  4. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Samper,
Surprised we haven’t heard Reds ask for their special rights for:

    CP OCD

(See Pee OCD) for the bathroom fixation
You guys know the ‘OTHER’ one!!

  5. Freakout in Kansas says:

I propose a trade…we’ll take all your redsh1ts (oops…noticed the typo, but think I’ll leave it) if you’ll take Fred Phelps…he makes these people look like amateurs.

  6. samper says:

I read about 14 pages last night (getting progressively more “glowy” from the rum) before these old bones needed some rest.

I’m doing laundry today… too much ROFLMAO and PIP (peeing in pants from laughing). I was literally sitting here, all alone, LMAO! Kitties think I’m ready for the asylum.

And I WOULD be, if I had to endure what you guys did.

WHAT IS WITH THIS BATHROOM OBSESSION? I mean, come ON! In 45 years, I’ve never had an “incident” in public bathrooms. NEVER ONCE.

And I’ve tried them all… restaraunts, rest areas, gas stations, even latrines in Michigan’s “wilderness”.

NEVER an incident. Every time, all over the world, I went into the bathroom for its intended purpose and came out unscathed.

Will allowing gays the right to housing and health care really change all that? Am I doomed to being afraid of public restrooms because they’re all going to be cross dressing and attacking me while I wash my hands?

    REALLY?

  7. the problem child says:

Wow, y’all endured a nightmare last night! So red shirts are animal abusers, too. Why am I not surprised?

  8. womanwithsardinecan says:

Whew! I’m sure glad I got through the first 13 pages last night before I went to bed. You guys are amazing.

  9. zyggy says:

I stopped reading after page 16, but I do think Anchorage needs a ton of bathroom monitors in public bathrooms after reading all this. =) It’s still very hard for me to believe there are so many people are so highly uneducated. Blows me away to read all this hate and discmination against gays.

  10. Aussie Blue Sky says:

I could be wrong, but isn’t this the girl whom Sheila Selkregg spoke to at length? A seasoned hater still with braces on her teeth.

  11. Janson says:

Hola. I live in Anchorage and took some photos of the demonstrations outside the Loussac Library tonight (Wednesday the 17th). A hell of an event! The blues were in top form. I was hoping to see the “Jesus is the Lord of Alaska” folks, but alas… they had fled the threatening onslaught of tolerance. Anyhow, thanks for the coverage, as always ~~

More photos, if anybody’s interested, are here:

  12. Nan says:

Shannyn, you were terrific, and you’re very lucky to have such a smart Watson! lol

    Nan

  13. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

I forgot to say – Kelly is a better person than me if he didn’t deck the jerk who hit your dog for peeing his mind.

I almost took on a Animal Control Officer a few years back when he picked up my aging, ailing dog from resting in a driveway. Luckily the ACO was very calm, and probably saw that one harsh word to me would escalate the situation beyond belief. If he had been a jerk, I would have landed in jail I’m sure but I sure would have gotten my licks in first! Hands OFF my furry kids!

  14. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Yeah Shannyn! We are YOUR community, too!

  15. InJuneau says:

Just checking in here, so I missed all the “fun” earlier. I’ll have to catch up later. Shannyn–sorry to hear that you didn’t get to take Brian with you. Poor Watson; I hope he’s okay (and that you or Kelly took care of the hitter!).

Sounds like we still have rounds to go on this one. Wish I could be there to support.

  16. Shannyn says:

Just wanted you all in Mudville to know I searched for AKM to take Brian up with me and set him on the podium. Knowing you were all where ever you were, drinking, chatting, and supporting our fight here in Anchorage meant so much to me. This is our fight; regardless of our “sexual orientation.” This is a righteous fight…despite fighting the “righteous.” Thank you for your alliance!
Kelly and I both testified. Yes, he’s smokin’ hot…ha, did you think I’d be with some lumberjack? (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) He is an amazing advocate and support for me, I couldn’t do it without him.
Watson (the Schnauzer) peed on a “No on 64” sign and then was hit by a red shirter. Kelly wasn’t pleased…
AKM, you have an amazing community in Mudflats and I love getting to visit! xo!

  17. nswfm CA says:

I didn’t read all of these because even 6 pages of these psychos was over my limit. How many more of these dolts can say the same bs to the group. Why wait for more BS for next week?

  18. Nan says:

    Martha Unalaska
    Good one! (and you’re right)

  19. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

I can’t imagine a worse he11 than living inside the head of one of these red shirts. Just had to say that. We have got a lot of interesting mudpups who gather here – and you are all interesting for the very same reasons that they are NOT! Can you imagine how awful and boring a red shirt blog would be? Ohhh… guess we already know that don’t we!

  20. seattlefan says:

justafarmer…try the hair of the dog and if that doesn’t work…just take a nice long nap.

AKM…thanks for the update. It did seem there were more red shirts. I was reading and not watching as my stream sucked. I was depending on this blog.

Hope you have some great food and wine tonight! Love you all!

  21. Nan says:

Understood, califpat. Glad you were there, too 🙂

    Nan

  22. califpat says:

As usual Mudpups you were hilarious, empathetic, intelligent and just plain old wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, only because you were there. If I had to see and hear the hate and bigotry that was spewed alone, I would need medical attention.

  23. justafarmer says:

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
off to bed before I have keyboard marks on my face…

  24. Gramiam says:

Sure, why not!!!! Canadian, let me take over and you rest those digits!! LOL!

  25. Canadian Neighbour says:

Yup — It’s time to blow this pop stand!!

    Pleasant Dreams Mudpups!!

  26. ds55 says:

    Whoa! 1,600 posts, you guys!

  27. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Gramiam,
They have themselves twisted around. Haven’t typed this much in years!!

  28. Gramiam says:

Niters, all mudpups. Off to dreamland where everybody wears blue shirts and Daisy Dukes and winks are outlawed.

  29. Nan says:

    GreatGrey – I stand corrected.

I must have mixed up the date of whatever it was. After last night, there’s no telling what I was looking at. (oops?)

    Nan

  30. Canadian Neighbour says:

New prison construction begins @ Point Mackenzie, groundbreaking today

  31. Gramiam says:

Hugs to you and your sore hands, Canadian Neighbour. Can I kiss ’em and make it better?

  32. Canadian Neighbour says:

She was to Kenai/Soldotna on 16th

  33. Nan says:

no new jobs except for other Wasilla High grads, right?

yikes, that was a meow 😡

  34. justafarmer says:

    @Gramian, anything liquid will do.
@Nan, I’m in sooo much better shape tonight; getting to bed a lot earlier. DH hasn’t come out to check on me yet!
@all mudpups: this has been a blast (even tho lots was testimony was painful)

and just an aside, Kelly is a real hottie and a really good speaker. Good on you Shannyn, also a great speaker (but we knew that already)!

  35. GreatGrey says:

    <i.Nan Says:

She was there earlier today, signing some bills somewhere (not juneau)

Sarah? She was at a ground breaking for a new prison. You know, govt spending that doesn’t produce jobs.

  36. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Gramiam,
I had trouble typing tonight. Hands never recovered from last night. I’ve been spelling some words out loud so the brain and hands connect!!

  37. Nan says:

She was there earlier today, signing some bills somewhere (not juneau)

  38. Gramiam says:

Sleep well, fellow mudpups. We have until Tuesday to hone our rapier wit. Anybody keeping tabs on how long the GINO plans to hide out away from Alaska?

  39. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Trish,
Where do you check for the messages on twitter for Iran

  40. Nan says:

justafarmer – hope the hangover isn’t as bad tomorrow

    lol

    Nan

  41. Canadian Neighbour says:

Is anyone aware that when you sign the list, if you had to identify where you lived as allowing outsiders to speak doesn’t make sense really.

  42. Nan says:

GreatGrey, great news! (nearly typed “gnus” just for alliterative reasons… definitely slaphappy here)

    Nan

  43. ok, I’m going to check Twitter for Iran updates, then try sleeping. It’s after 2am here, and there’s a long “to do” list waitinf for me tomorrow (today?)

    HUGS and LOVE, mudpups!

  44. Gramiam says:

Thanks for sharing, GreatGrey. Wonderful news!!

  45. seattlefan says:

lexky====I’m also with you. It breaks my heart what they are going through and some are even getting killed. I have been following the liveblog on Huffpo and it is fascinating. It has been going on since Friday. Amazing and incredible people who are just fed up. I hope this turns out peacefully.

  46. GreatGrey says:

    Anyone want some Palin news?

The fund for Palin’s legal defense was at 17% of their goal yesterday, and yesterday was day 2 of the seven day “webathon”

They jumped all the way to 18% today.

Looks like an epic FAIL in progress.

  47. Gramiam says:

Thanks for the belt, justafarmer. Good stuff!! See ya Tuesday. I’ll broing a bottle to share. Any preference?

  48. Canadian Neighbour says:

When the mudpups log on, they are going to wonder WTH happened with the number of posts!! They’ll have to read some of it and hopefully get to the dinner break entertainment section!!

  49. jojobo1 says:

Yay good job Shannyn. We had a pedophile who drove a school bus ,K thr5th I thnk it was and it took years before I think his housekeeper glanced at his computer and saw some naked children He is now sitting in jail and he was straight as can be ,had had a wife and children and grandchildren also.Takes all kinds.I was so glad when they came up with showing anyone near that was a pedophile.I don’t know if other states have that or not.You know even pedophiles ,at least in our state can not be discriminated against except for being near a school.park or working with children.

  50. justafarmer says:

don’t know Nan, just that they had tornado warnings earlier tonight.
As for here, NWS confirmed the tornado touchdown last night…I was too toasted to go take the pictures, but they sent a team this morning so was ok for me to be pitiful with my blogging hangover.

  51. CorningNY says:

I’m off to bed–g’night, MudPups! ‘Til tomorrow.

Gee, if I hadn’t quit my job, I wouldn’t have stayed up to watch this…

  52. Gramiam says:

I have to agree, AKM. The folks speaking were those already signed up. Not happy they couldn’t dominate the list again for next hearing. Wonder if Assembly will know who are Anchorites and who aren’t.

  53. Gramiam says:

I look at this and at what is happening in Iran. There is hope for a better world when stuff has to come out into the light of day. I felt a lot more positive about the assembly members. They were courteous and fair, but I got the sense that most are for the ordinance.

  54. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

lexky — i am with you — there are millions of people in iran that need a sttable and honest government. i have been watching and keeping them in my thoughts every day. what wonderful brave and amazing people.

  55. CorningNY says:

Nan, I didn’t think of it that way–but you’re right. Just what I was saying–you can justify anything with it.

  56. akmuckraker says:

There were not nearly as many red shirts there as I thought there would be. I know it didn’t feel that way from listening to the testimony, but Prevo called off service tonight so the church could attend, but there were only a few hundred people there. His membership is in the thousands.

  57. lexky says:

    peace

  58. justafarmer says:

    with you on that lexky.

@ENOUGH…I take it that it’s safe to go the bathroom now…

Next Tuesday….. I may have recovered by then. Now I’m off to load pictures.

I’ll make another attempt to be there. The reddies just pissed me off too much yesterday afternoon to stay around.

  60. Nan says:

yikes – have any touched down, justafarmer?

  61. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

now what was that over at immoral minority? off to chase a story…..toodles

  62. justafarmer says:

hoping the mudpups in Nebraska and Missouri are doing ok with tonight’s tornadoes.

  63. lexky says:

everybody say a prayer or just send a good thought to the people of iran.
we may not like what these people say but im glad we live in a place where we have the right to do so.
    usa #1

  64. Nan says:

    CorningNY
what got me was when the same argument would be used – for each side! Crazy.

  65. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

thanks for having us tonight AKM. glad i was able to witness a bit of alaska history with so many cool folks — night all.

  66. justafarmer says:

well, I have five days to catch up on sleep!

  67. CorningNY says:

That was exhausting and disheartening. So much hatred and religious fanaticism. People will use the bible to justify anything.

  68. Nan says:

    I’m beat!

  69. akmuckraker says:

Next Tuesday….. I may have recovered by then. Now I’m off to load pictures.

  70. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

maybe someone in alaska can ask the Selking person who went to talk with the grandfather?

  71. Nan says:

they have some good people on that board. I’m really impressed

  72. sad that the little boy died. although I disagree with the grandpa, I send him HUGS. we are not supposed to outlive our children, let alone, our grandchildren!

  73. Canadian Neighbour says:

It’s amazing to hear the silence!! Strange after so much rant

  74. lexky says:

i think there are sick of hearing the same thing over and over again

  75. Nan says:

was it the daughter or the grandson?

  76. justafarmer says:

oooh, livestream has been officially cut off just when things were getting interesting with the Assembly!

  77. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

great grey — glad to hear that.

  78. Nan says:

She is bending over backwards to make sure that everyone is up to speed. wow

  79. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

well this was completely awesome……oops madam chairwoman almost did a boo boo.

  80. GreatGrey says:

Selkrig went up to talk with the guy who’s grandson died, very classy.

  81. Doggonit says:

Next hearing Tuesday. Time won’t be known until Monday

  82. califpat says:

Nah! This public hearing will resume on Tuesday of next week. Not sure what time.

  83. Canadian Neighbour says:

    trish
I noticed it getting up there at about 1475 and knew we’ve hit new record I’m sure

  84. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

now i was always wonder why the kid died………i sure hope he did not commit suicide. sending a hug to the mom.

  85. mlaiuppa says:

They’re going to go on until everyone on the list has spoken? Over 500?

    Sorry, but that is insane.

After a reasonable number of people you close debate and move on.

  86. Nan says:

Enough – I think there is only a couple more to go (smoke slooooowwwly – I”ll join you!)

  87. GreatGrey says:

The guys grandson who was worried about growing up gaii is the one who died, just rewound to check.

  88. VernD says:

    He said ” He Died”.
    The grandson.

  89. seattlefan says:

From the sounds of all your comments, the rational, free thinking people were totally outnumbered tonight. How sad. They bussed them in. Sounds like something Acmadinajad (sp???) would do. Isn’t it past their bedtime?

  90. next hearing: Tuesday?

  91. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

last cigarette………so i am at cross purposes. i so want to hear the rest of the list but i don’t think i could do it without another pack of smokes.

did she just say she is going to listen to hear 100 more folks? tonight?

  92. lexky says:

strippers always have money to pay the rent…dont hate

  93. OT: anyone notice…there’s over 1500 comments here? WTG, mudpups!
I LOVE all of you! 🙂

  94. Doggonit says:

Christian sold houses to all, even strippers, never discriminates. Claims Board has opened Pandora’s box.

  95. califpat says:

Mr. Realtor: You left out conveniently that they did not discriminate because of sexual orientation. And it does not cover “all”.

  96. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

  97. justafarmer says:

  98. akmuckraker says:

It’s incredible how angry some people get. Oh god….14th amendment. What’s with the finger pointing? People are so disrespectful and rude.

  99. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Pandora’s box?! Really!?

  100. Canadian Neighbour says:

He sells houses to gays, lesbians, strippers. Doesn’t discriminate. AND of course not — it’s a real estate commission.

  101. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

he has sold to gays, to lesbians, and to STRIPPERS? god i have to laugh just a little bit about that one. it is becoming quite clear that this town NEEDS an ordinace really really bad.

  102. justafarmer says:

insulting the Assembly, way to go…

  103. lexky says:

im glad the city of anchorage was not divided until this

  104. Forty Watt says:

    I can’t hear. I need to know who died…….

  105. Gramiam says:

Wonder if we’d have a Black President if Brown Vs. Board of Education had been defeated in the Supreme Court. Sometimes you have to change the law. Hearts and minds will eventually follow. Come on folks, this is a no brainer!!

  106. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

Then grandpa asked grandson question. Grandson was afraid he’s grow up like his mom, gay. Grandpa said, you can make your own decisions. Then the grandson died?

  114. Canadian Neighbour says:

We all have the same rights….but we don’t. Law is redundant according to her, and yet it’s still legal to fire someone for being gay.

You were in transit, so I’ll repeat: in spite of laws against murder, there was still the need for anti-lynching laws.

    This is similar.

  127. califpat says:

Lady, speaking of redundancy, your group has been redundant all evening with your fearmongering and hate inspired speeches.

  128. akmuckraker says:

  152. seattlefan says:

You guys are cracking me up! I can’t see what is going on but am reading your comments. It’s like reading the cliff notes of a book you never read. You are getting the gist, but not the whole picture.

Why are they letting someone from Wisconsin to speak?

  153. That’s just insane! Why would they even allow a non-AK resident to speak?

  154. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

man i go tinkle and almost missed a sodomy story………were there any details?

  155. justafarmer says:

    Agreed.

And I sense a lot of folks who are fearful that they may be latent.

  200. califpat says:

That woman was all over the place. She jumped from one subject to another without ever making her point.

  201. CrazyInAlaska says:

This is comical, watching this and reading the posts. I don’t mean the issue, just the people talking. Actually it is scary!

  202. Forty Watt says:

I wonder why we might not think they’re civilized?

  203. seattlefan says:

You have to wonder what these assembly persons are thinking about now. With all this right-wing nastiness crawling out of the woodwork, I’m guessing they might be a bit shocked, no matter where they stand politically.

OT and very interesting. Check out Gryphen’s site now. Tee hee!

  204. akmuckraker says:

  215. Doggonit says:

Lady says there are body organs and we can’t ignore them. Roses are not tulips.

  216. woodstove says:

I try so hard to be just like I am, but all the redshirts want you to be just like them, they say sing while you slave, but i just get bored, I ain’t gonna work on Jerry Prevos farm no more. Or Sarah Palin’s either. Or all those that defend what they cannot see, a killers pride security, it blows their minds most bitterly to see that deaths honesty won’t fall upon them naturally, life sometimes must get lonely. I stole most of that from Dylan. But I say do your own thing, yes go right ahead but don’t do it all over me or I’ll jump in your head and before I am all done you will begin to realize that yours and mine just aren’t the same kinds of fun. Don’t judge me, I won’t judge you, don’t f**k with me and I won’t f**k with you.

  227. nswfm CA says:

  228. bigdayqueen says:

I can’t believe how well these red shirt folks have proven the need for the implementation of this ordinance. They are bigots and un-Christian, and generally sad excuses for human beings.

When I’ve gone to things like this to give the public a chance to speak, and there were 900 people from the community, the panel would ask people if they didn’t have anything different to add, that they be respectful and not force every one to stay the whole night. Sounds very discouraging and unfair with all those bussed in people and their hate. Can’t wait to hear what AKM, Shannyn, Gryfynn and the rest have to say tomorrow.

  323. CrazyInAlaska says:

Why is it people have to say, “I have friends that are gay.”

  324. Gramiam says:

Bad Assembly. It is all your fault and we don’t have to obey if you pass this ordinance.

  325. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

okay here we go — “those who oppose this ordinance because of their beliefs do not have to obey the ordinance”. well, that should be fun.

  326. Nan says:

CorningNY – hanged if I know

  327. Doggonit says:

Another buffoon who thinks this is a Christian Nation.

  328. justafarmer says:

oh, smacking the Assembly, but I’m a loving Christian.
    sigh….

  329. lexky says:

sometimes i really hate living in a red state.

  330. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

any christian that hates what god loves is a hypocrite. okay i think i need some ALCOHOL

  331. Gramiam says:

Neutral shirt and tie. We red shirts are being marginalized. Gag, retch, hurl!!!

  332. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Justafarmer
    and he was CURED!!!!! Halleluyia!!!!!
    snark

    ROFL

  333. watching and listening to this simply reinforces my instinct that most homophobes are simply in the closet at the house of denial.

  334. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

inflammatory statements have been made (they are calling us bigots outside) teacher – they are being mean to me………we need an ORDINANCE.

  335. califpat says:

@AKM: I believe you are right. Yepppers!!

  336. lovemydogs says:

I just got home from work after listening to 45 min of this on WMD radio. It was just about as much as I could take. It is far more fun to hear your descriptions and remarks than to listen to the real thing so please don’t stop.

  337. CrazyInAlaska says:

Have there been any good ones tonight? I did see Diane Benson, and she was amazing!!!

  338. bigdayqueen says:

I wish they would stop using the bible stuff…God did not write the Bible , men did. It is full of contradictions. If they really believed the Bible ..why do they allow divorce? why do they not scorn and stone for premarital and extrmartital sex?

  339. Doggonit says:

Looks like we have a bus load of preachers who can cure gays by teaching them about Jesus.

  340. CorningNY says:

Nan–what is it, does every transgender person in AK come to Anchorage to hang out in the restrooms and scare little girls? WTF.

  341. justafarmer says:

kerryann, sadly I’m still surrounded by proud teabaggers.
and we have 16% unemployment here but by golly get govmint out of our lives but keep sending that govmint assistance.
    sigh

  342. GreatGrey says:

I swear there can’t be another red shirt of any kind left at WalMart.

  343. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

jesus is coming soon. hmmm. “we just have the one way” use this blessing time? pray this town – pray this town of gays (shoobie doobie) we’re gonna pray this town pray it all night long.

  344. Rob in Ca says:

I am afraid to get to close to this guy.

He might turn me into a Russian!

  345. MnWisAk says:

watching this makes my wish my internet was still down. sheesh, I can’t take it.

  346. lexky says:

the town i live in has a huge gay population but then you will run into some of the most backward bigoted people you will ever meet.

  347. Gramiam says:

Putin must be laughing his ass off.

  348. Lori in Los Angeles says:

nothing but red shirts, NO BLUES. I cannot take it any longer. all bused in, almost all non-residents of anchorage. this should not have been allowed.
good night akm and all. I am discouraged, but not defeated.

  349. califpat says:

Married and living in the closet miserably.

  350. seattlefan says:

ahhhhh! Thanks justafarmer. Cybershots are very soothing. I accompanied it with a sip of my excellent chardonnay. I’m still not numb enough to deal with all this hate.

  351. Gramiam says:

Here we go again, Yet another “born again” Russian!!

  352. Rob in Ca says:

Who would Jesus deny rights to?

  353. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @Lori
“Whatever they need to do” that would be to make sure they have put the fear into all their little ones!

  354. akmuckraker says:

    Didn’t this guy talk yesterday?

  355. CorningNY says:

And today, that young man is living in denial of his true nature, in psychic pain every moment for denying his real nature.

  356. Nan says:

yes, we figured the restroom was the size of Grand Central station since so many had personal experiences with the cross dressers.

    humpf. and sigh.

  357. Rob in Ca says:

Is it because of the red shirts that all these guys keep getting propositioned by all them gays?

  358. califpat says:

This man has powers. He cured him!!

  359. justafarmer says:

    and he was CURED!!!!! Halleluyia!!!!!
    snark

  360. Gramiam says:

We are just wearing them down, AKM!!cvChristian community is MOTIVATED. Mostly from Out Of Town. How he changed a poor sinful gay man. Took him six months to “recycle” this young man!!

  361. akmuckraker says:

If it makes you feel better, there are many more blue shirts outside on the lawn having a great time. There is food and music and bubbles. And the cars are honking much more for the blues.

  362. kerryann63 says:

justafarmer and lexky: did either of you notice a shortage of “crackers” over in your neck of the woods? seems they all moved up to Alaska which explains the great amount of tolerance we seem to be having in Charlotte NC these days! Also explains all the thumpers up there……sorry Alaska

  363. lexky says:

what would god think of these people slinging his name around

  364. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

so maybe they need to pass an ordinance to make everyone read that passage in the bible to cure the gays. AAAACCCCCKKKK

  365. Canadian Neighbour says:

The purpose of letting him go on was WHY??

  366. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he knows what God thinks. and that the Christians are motivated to do “whatever they need to do.” is that a threat?

  367. CorningNY says:

They act like gays are the only ones who ever approach anyone for a date/sex. News flash: straight guys do that too. ALL the time. Women have to put up with this continually. But of course, it’s only bad behavior when male approaches a male. Well, harassment is harassment, straight or gay. If someone is bothering you, tell them to f*** off or call the police.

  368. beth says:

On the bright side, just think of all the fun you Anchorage folks are going to have when they go through all of these hearings all over again!

    Guarandamntee you’ll have to.

No matter *what* the Assembly decides, the ‘other’ side is going to call “foul”. They will point out, and rightfully so, that ‘outsiders’ swayed the vote. And they’ll sue. Big time.

The next set of hearings will be run wiser: Any speaker, *before* they can go to the mic/podium, will *have* to show proof of residency *within* the boundaries of the city…you know, like how they have to show proof of residency within the city boundaries when they vote for city mayor, city assembly member, city solicitor, …

    You’ll have to have a ‘do-over’. I bet’cha – the law suits’ll make sure you do.

  369. justafarmer says:

oh, and lots and LOTS of bathroom testimony, AKM

  370. Canadian Neighbour says:

    AKM
You need to truck them in except list is closed.

Are they planning another night of this?

  371. CrazyInAlaska says:

Please tell me why the bible comes up when someone is gay, but not when someone is eating shellfish?

  372. lexky says:

    alot

  373. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

son – this is not about me and you — and i opened the bible and said “son you need to read this”……the boy read whatever and turned red and slammed the book on the ground. “this is between you and god”.

god can be such a jerk sometimes. find that boy and give him a HUG.

  374. lexky says:

    aloog ignorance on display

  375. justafarmer says:

oooh, the word “share” and oh oh oh he’s ALSO a counselor. YIKES!!!

  376. Lori in Los Angeles says:

this red shirts “train” lots of kids. my heart goes out to those “trained” kids.

  377. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

AKM — no blues……….but alot of sad “i just got hit on by the gays”

  378. justafarmer says:

no blue shirts AKM. It’s been a real test of character for us.

  379. AKM, seems to be just red shirts now 🙁

  380. califpat says:

This bigot is very insulting. “My wife probably has more intelligence than any of you”.

  381. GreatGrey says:

    Hey everyone.
Just got home. No blue shirts lately?

No, where did they all go?

  382. lexky says:

i know what comes out of georgia

  383. CrazyInAlaska says:

    mostly reds

  384. Doggonit says:

Man didn’t know gays existed although he said family members died from being gay and getting aides.

  385. justafarmer says:

coal mines of WV, no homos there dadgummit! (talking my area of the country now).

  386. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

died at 45 of AIDS……….yes it is a terrible death. his “lover” messed around and got the AIDS and gave it to him and then left him.

yes this is a part of the story — the silent suffering of our gay population of a disease that in this country is called “gay”…….but elsewhere in the world is just a truly horrid disease that any one can die from.

hard to type the snideness in his voice when he mentions gay and lover. ? give him a hug anyway. i think he needs it bad.

  387. Lori in Los Angeles says:

seems the red shirts are sooooo irresistable to Gay men – the Gays cannot seem to keep their hands off them. right. he is even approached by hermaphodites!

  388. GreatGrey says:

All the reddies complaining about being propositioned…..

Can I whine and be traumatized every time a Jehova’s Witness or LDS Missionary tries to “proposition” me?

  389. Canadian Neighbour says:

Wife more education that those sitting up there (Assembly) as she had a lot of time on her hands as she couldn’t teach as she had been discriminated against.

Preteenage years had hundreds of partners??? (I think he said his son – my brain has already forgotten as I got stuck on the hundreds and hundreds in preteenage years)

  390. akmuckraker says:

    Hey everyone.
Just got home. No blue shirts lately?

  391. Gramiam says:

Red Shirt 26 years in Anchorage. Wife discriminated against as teacher because children in Christian schools. Litany of gay friends and propositions from others. I guess gaydars in Alaska don’t work real well.

  392. Snoskred says:

Yeah I think I’ve had all the red shirts I can take for one day. I’m out all. 😉

  393. Nan says:

sauerkraut – I may also too… getting depressed here.

  394. justafarmer says:

oh dear, discriminated against because they sent their children to Christian school

  395. Born to be gay….

    (think Steppenwolf)

  396. CrazyInAlaska says:

The blues have gone home because we realize that once you state the facts, that’s all you can do.

  397. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

i am listening to the speakers without seeing them — and amazingly enough i have predicted red shirt 100% so far. just from their introduction. spooky

  398. califpat says:

The military didnt know about this one.

  399. Doggonit says:

Christian thinks he was born to be gay but found Jesus.

  400. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

he apparently is real good at pulling his reins.

  401. Canadian Neighbour says:

They should weed out the non-Achor from the list before they do any further hearings as this is ridiculous.

  402. Nan says:

Mother Jones is gay? “Librul” yes, but gay?

  403. kerryann63 says:

does this guy have a point? will he ever get around to it? find out on next week’s episode of SOAP!

  404. Rob in Ca says:

Jesus enters the conversation again. This guy actually has converted gays.

Wow. He needs to write a book. He could make millions.

    Cut the mike.

  405. sauerkraut says:

Well, I cannot get consistent streaming so I will call it a night. Will read all the comments in the am. niters ya alls.

  406. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

liberal pro-gay magazine called mother jones. hahahahahahaha oh my goodness. see i still want to give him a hug though.

  407. Gramiam says:

    Latent is his middle name?

  408. bigdayqueen, yes! I agree!

  409. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Nothing but red shirts. Blues have disappeared. this one was propositioned in 1969. he claims to be propositioned to by gay males, who gravitate toward him. yes, he is too sexy for his clothes. only 3 that he knows were kicked out of military for being Gay. ONLY 3? Is that not 3 too many?

  410. justafarmer says:

didn’t we hear this same stuff from Mr. Unavailable last night?

  411. Canadian Neighbour says:

Would love the assembly out of spite to put this through!!! They’ve snide remarked acting mayor so many times — they’d deserve it!!

  412. Gramiam says:

Stan Shields, red shirt. Crisis counselor. Molested by father. Well, we know what’s coming, don’t we…….Got religion. Propositioned in high school and after. Is sensitive so gays are attracted and also he makes a good counselor.

  413. justafarmer says:

    sent you a double seattlefan…

  414. bigdayqueen says:

This man is in denial…big time

  415. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

he was first propositioned in 1969……..huh? he has a “sensitivity”? what does that mean………he is a natural born counselor? i think he needs a hug.

  416. Nan says:

    he’s a counselor? (and a red shirt?)

  417. uh-oh…this one was abused by Dad, then propositioned in HS…has a natural sensitivity…

  418. CrazyInAlaska says:

When did this become a share your feelings with the group session, and church?! I didn’t know this was a religious issue!

  419. justafarmer says:

    ratzzzzz….
another crap backup clogging my intertubes….

  420. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @Polly
Tell me about it. I live here! Thank goodness we are moving soon!

  421. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

man — i swear this is group therapy. i am so sorry he was sexually molested. and his mother sounds like a crappy person. please tell me this one has a happy ending that does not involve a bathroom.

  422. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Rob
Let me help you — she need’s a beatch slap — THWACK

  423. califpat says:

Reddie Lady: Maybe you should examine your definition of “all” because you surely do not want human rights for “all”. Lady, these are not Special Rights that gays want. Just equal rights for “all”.

  424. Nan says:

ok, refreshing screen here – I’m lagging way behind

  425. kerryann63 says:

Cali you’re right, they are all starting to look alike to me

  426. lexky says:

move to cali if you are gay

  427. Nan says:

catchphrases i hope *not* to hear for another month/year whatever:

    “Acting mayor” (said with sneer)
    a certain bathroom story
    the word “behavior”
    gay “lifestyle” and/or gay “choice”

There are a couple more, but this gal is distracting me. Snark, maybe?

  428. Polly says:

How can the assembly members stay so polite?

  429. kerryann63 says:

ooooh she’s a funny one. at least she thinks so. show of hands, how many of you think she and hubby retired to AK for the perm fund check?

  430. Rob in Ca says:

Slap to Los Angeles. Ooh that hurt someone….

  431. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

what a snarky gal……….her husband is a MALE. telling the gays to move to los angeles.

  432. Lori in Los Angeles says:

hey – NOT LOS ANGELES, the evil of evils. I take offense.

  433. GreatGrey says:

Chair Ossiander should stop dead the next speaker that makes a “non-elected mayor” refernce. Its just f-ing rude.

  434. Polly says:

No wonder Palin had a high popularity rating. Alaska is full of uneducated people.

  435. CrazyInAlaska says:

I just got here! Love Mr. Guiterrize! Great question to the tall, black, christian, mother, woman.

  436. justafarmer says:

    can=can’t

  437. justafarmer says:

another reddie who can even read. And brings up the mayor thing and taxes yadda yadda yadda.
    passing a double to seattlefan

  438. Rob in Ca says:

Oh no. Now the restrooms have been forgotten and the slippery slope showed up!

  439. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

costly slippery slopes……….could a bathroom incident not be far behind?

  440. Gramiam says:

She should have worn a BLUE dress!!.

  441. Doggonit says:

Conservative woman asks board if they pulling a Bill Clinton?

  442. Lori in Los Angeles says:

they musta rented a fleet of buses tonite. I hope it cost their church a bundle and when ordinance passes, it will be for naught. this one thinks MAJORITY is important and screw any minorities. and she thinks she is making sense.

  443. Canadian Neighbour says:

She was discriminated against in Wasilla because of being black. She has the problem in that she has rights and didn’t use them.

She’s ask for ordinance for her because she’s not black enough for African American. Not native enough for the state of AK WTH???

  444. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

hey i have tried that choice thing numerous times………sometimes i wake up and say today i choose to be gay. so far, it hasn’t worked. maybe there is an instruction book? seriously though — the concept that gay is choice is truly and blindingly ignorant.

  445. Gramiam says:

OMG!! Using Bill Clinton’s defense for the Monica incident!!

  446. lexky says:

    dont be bad mouthing clinton

  447. califpat says:

African American lady, you are contradicting yourself by descriminating against others as you claim that you suffered. You should be one of the ones who has compassion for people who are different. You are a fraud!!

  448. Rob in Ca says:

Here is someone who thinks saying the gays have rights is worse than if they already have all those rights. HUH?

  449. Nan says:

her sis is gay, and pierced – they’d always gotten along – until “this ordinance” came up.

(the ordinance isn’t doing it – it just brought it to the surface – sheesh)

  450. Doggonit says:

Christian woman wants her sister who is gay to be discriminated against for some reason.

  451. Gramiam says:

    Angela Doody? Nuf said!

  452. lexky says:

    true southerners have manners.

  453. seattlefan says:

justafarmer…..I’ll take some of that! Don’t know what it is, but I’ll take a sip or two. “””Reaching my tumbler through my monitor for a shot”””

Glad you weren’t hit by the tornado last night!

  454. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

i guess she needs a hug. how can gays ride on the coattails of the equal rights movement? hmmm. well, cause that is how it works in america. a group of people that have been discriminated against can gather together and ask for it to be stopped. and the rest of us have the “choice” to empathize and change OUR behaviors to show that the tenets of our wonderful country are alive and are available for all people. but apparently someone wants to slam the door shut after they are finished fighting for their own rights? very sad.

  455. Polly says:

Why do people keep thinking homosexuality is a choice!?

  456. Lori in Los Angeles says:

seems the red shirts have taken over. she is mad that gays are riding coat tails of civil rights movement. you would think she would understand discrimination. her sister is Gay. she is sorry for sounding condescending.
    I’ll bet.

  457. Nan says:

this one, trying not to cry – sez gay/les “riding coattails” of civil rights

    Hm.

  458. lexky says:

i have alot of piercings, what of it?

  459. sauerkraut says:

Is southern lady the same nitwit who showed up at the Letterman protest yesterday?

  460. justafarmer says:

I feel so sorry for this woman

  461. here we go again, with the crap about they “choose” to be homosexual/ ::thud::

  462. GreatGrey says:

Black and Native, lets see… she gets more govt protection than anyone in that room.

  463. Rob in Ca says:

Choice? Another one who thinks it is a choice? Unreal.
She didn’t chose to be black. My sister didn’t choose to be gay.

  464. justafarmer says:

    is she pronouncing it “wah-sewer”?

  465. sauerkraut says:

Yanno… back a few years ago, I was at a Boston Celtics game. During intermission times, I’d go to the bathroom. Thing was… most of the stalls were used by women. As were a few urinals. Never could figure out how the ladies were doing it while standing up… BUT I never complained about other people using the facilities when they had to go. When Mother Nature calls, you’d best answer that damned phone.

This bathroom nonsense is just that: nonsense. Let ’em use a tree if they are afraid to use the indoor facilities due to some nitwit fear of something that’s unlikely to occur during their lifetimes.

  466. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

how could this church bring so many people that are so conflicted inside? this is like watching group therapy. i feel for this young lady.

  467. Nan says:

    dang… that behavior thing again

  468. justafarmer says:

    this one needs a laptop?????

  469. Nan says:

I love Gutierrez… he’s asking why her choices are not “special” and protected legally.

  470. Gramiam says:

Good question from assemblyman. Why is this special rights if you are protected in your choice of religion?

  471. they “choose” to be homosexual? Ummm, all the gays I have ever known did not CHOOSE it!

  472. Lori in Los Angeles says:

calif pat, I am sorry, but I have met you and for you to say they look alike is cracking me up. good question from the assembly person, and now she is comparing choosing to be a homosexual with someone who murders another person. she made an ass of herself!

  473. Doggonit says:

Lady compares homosexuality with killing someone.

  474. justafarmer says:

and we can’t discriminate against her because she is black. DUH!!!

  475. califpat says:

Yes we can see that you are “Black”. You have so many choices so why do you choose to take away other people’s choices.

  476. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

no one is going to arrest her for saying she is going to murder someone — actually. just saying.

  478. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

    there are question(s?)

  480. justafarmer says:

    oooh good question!!!!

  481. Nan says:

Well, looks like this gal likes “choice.” Is a Christian. (bracing myself)

is black, a woman, also a mom, wife, vet & Christian – all by choice

  482. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

i like this — aren’t your choice of religion and marital status “special rights”

  483. Doggonit says:

One actually understands who she is based in the color of her shirt.

  484. justafarmer says:

well, she certainly benefitted from special benefits

  485. Canadian Neighbour says:

Black woman — red – forceful on word “choice” and “choose’ for every statement. She chooses — she’s a wife, mother, a vet, but seems to have forgotten Dr. King

  486. austintx says:

    keeps repeating herself

  487. Lori in Los Angeles says:

pompous beyatch. smug one, this red sh*t.

  488. Gramiam says:

Black woman, vet, Christian, married 2 children. All choices and red top.

  489. califpat says:

Has this cretin been up there before or maybe all the bigots are beginning to look alike?

  490. justafarmer says:

  497. Lori in Los Angeles says:

red vest, american flag stitched on it. clown. raise your hand if we should reward bad behavior. her come the bible, fornication is a sin! adultry is in same category as homosexuality. we must discrimnate adulterers AND homosexuals!! hahahaha, how many people would be left?

  498. Gramiam says:

  502. justafarmer says:

    oh dear…another patriot.

  503. califpat says:

Southern Lady, take the blinders off, when you say you have never seen a gay person get discriminated against. Everyday they are discriminated against in the work force, housing, emplomennt and in just everyday life.

  507. Polly says:

why are there so many reds?

  508. justafarmer says:

    passing a glass to ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck….

  509. Snoskred says:

I actually believe this does not go far enough in giving “special” rights to people.

You know.. right now I am being discriminated against because I chose not to have children – I instead chose to have two cats. We’re looking for a new place to live, and just this morning I was told no on a place because of the cats. But if I had two children? Oh, no problem. Move right in. Because they cannot legally discriminate against people with children here. Do they expect me to drop my pets off at the pound and forget they exist? They are my *family*.

What this woman is saying is exactly the reason this ordinance has to go further than it currently does – it needs to specify no discrimination against any one for any reason.

    Oh again with the restroom.

Why dont we just make a rest room for kids only? Won’t somebody think of the CHILDREN?

I don’t want HER in the lady’s room if I’m there.

  515. Gramiam says:

The damned bathroom again. This is worse than “Psycho” for showers!!

  516. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she grew up in the south, big surprise. never heard of a gay person being assualted in anchorage. well, that is not the point lady, this is about denying them rights regarding renting property, going to schools and given equal job opportunity. BATHROOM ALERT again.

  517. seattlefan says:

For those of you who can see the stream….Sounds like all the speakers in the last 15 minutes are red shirts. Can we get some clarification for those of us who can’t see? Love the remarks you are giving, but we need some detail please!! Thanks. 🙂

  522. justafarmer says:

  523. CorningNY says:

So, by her argument, it’s OK for a bigot to discriminate against blacks because of his “conscience.”

Well, then, I’m going to discriminate against stupid people like her because accommodating them is against my moral code.

  524. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

special rights versus equal rights. she has never heard of any gays being assualted so i guess it has never happened. well, pack em up folks. it took what 1000 speakers to finally get to this point?

  525. Nan says:

    Gramiam – ty (emesis?)

sauerkraut – either that, or flush myself down said terlet. So much fear, so much “You can’t have that because I don’t want to quit denying it to you” (housing, employment, whatever)

  529. My usual “horrible bathroom experience”: choosing the stall with NO toilet paper. Ya think I’d know by now, to always check and choose accordingly, but sometimes, it’s URGENT and I forget! 😉

  544. GreatGrey says:

  547. califpat says:

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Just because a lot of people of little intelligence and a lot of fear say no on the ordinance does not make it legit or fair. And I do not believe you when you say that your sister has lived a life as a lesbian and has never been discriminated against. Come noe Charlie, be truthful.

  548. justafarmer says:

sauerkraut, don’t forget the bathroom door handles. Major germs on your way out…

  549. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

fairly reasonable compassionate person….does not require perfection of anyoone…..not fearful of anyone. oh here it comes. sexual deviance is not a problem. all of us deal with struggles. different people are assigned or born along that continuum….like gambling? struggle with sexuality or alcohol or food or temper? just play the hand you are dealt. work harder to rein in your behavior. if you have to work harder then you just work harder to rein in those unfair continuum thingees.

  550. CorningNY says:

So discrimination is just a cross gays have to bear.

  551. sauerkraut says:

I’m confused… I keep seeing alternating Celtic Diva and bathroom invasion comments… certainly not her making those types of comments.

Anyways… everyone knows that the most dangerous thing in a public restroom is the uncleaned terlet… following by the floor which too many people hit after missing the maw.

  552. Nan says:

“My sister ‘chose’ to become a lesbian – has never told me she was discriminated against” (why should she? I don’t think he’d hear her if she did)

  553. Lori in Los Angeles says:

more oppose than for – well, sure – THEY ARE ALL BUSED IN FROM THE BAPTIST CHURCHES not in anchorage! his lesbian sister does not suffer discrimination at mc donalds, so therefore it does not exist. they are really pushing for more names on list – more to be bused in, from everywhere but anchorage.

  554. Doggonit says:

Perhaps the should hold the hearing in the bathroom as that is where everyone is hanging out.

  555. Canadian Neighbour says:

The reds would truck in from the lower 48 to testify to slow this thing down. The Assembly should have closed it to outside of Anch.

  556. samper says:

    AGAIN!!!!

    Enough Potty Talk.

    We ALL go there.

VERY few of us have had “unpleasant” experiences at a public restroom.

Why do we ALL OF A SUDDEN have to ANTICIPATE as horrific a thing as a TG?

To tell the “GOD’S” honest truth… As a woman, using women’s facilties in puiblic, I’ve never had an issue.

If a TG/G/L/whatever walked in, I’d PROBABLY be behind my LOCKED stall door and when I emerged (FULLY CLOTHED) would PROBABLY wash my hands and then dry them without incident.

FTLOG, these folks MUST get out of my bathrooms, be they in my OWN HOME or on the interstate at rest areas.

  557. CO almost native says:

  560. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

open-minded…? somewhat like the democratic process where every vote counts. far more speaking opposed than for. so it only makes sense that you vote no cause we packed this place with red shirts.

  562. CO almost native says:

I suggest the Assembly limit the speakers to voters- and no repeats.

  563. a red shirt speaking of “open-mindedness”? LOL

  564. seattlefan says:

  580. Lori in Los Angeles says:

good point Nan – the bathroom invasions are already rampant apparently, so what changes with the ordinance?

  581. Gramiam says:

    Speaker, do your freakin’ homework!!

  582. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    “discussed FUTHERLY” lol

  583. Nan says:

Not ONE of these bathroom dwellers has mentioned that this happened WITHOUT benefit of this ordinance?

They fuss that this will be happening with passage of the ordinance, but yoohoo… according to *them*, it’s already happening!

    sheesh.

  584. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

  585. califpat says:

One in 1,500 babies are born with both male and female genitalia. I have an in-law who was male on the outside, with a uterus on the inside. When he was a teenager he had pms, and often felt like wearing female clothing, etc.. he was attracted to boys. He did have the broad shoulders, developed muscular forearms, but was very conflicted on his identity. It was well into his twenties, when he decided to pursue the life of a man, and underwent many hormonal treatments to get rid of the female problems he was having. Well, he is married and a father now, and the best deal for his wife is she has a husband who can fix cars, fix computers, build houses, and change diapers, clean the house and cook – oh, he likes to sew too! 🙂

  632. Rob in Ca says:

It’s all about fear. Fear you will be converted, or your kids will be converted. Fear that you will have to see the ‘gays’…that they won’t have to hide. Feel sorry for all of these very very fearful people. Their fear sometimes turns to hate. That is where we have to be better, and help them understand, and not hate in return.
It is hard to hear some of these statements, but at the same time this amazing public dialog is a remarkable thing, and very educational for everyone. I wish this was happening in every city and every town, because we can’t fix it till we really talk about it. Thanks AKM for providing this forum to share these thoughts with so many of us who can’t be there.

All these “red” people are examples of why this ordinance is so necessary; they are all admitting that they want to continue to discriminate against anyone who is not heterosexual. I’m out of town right now, so can’t be there to testify, so I wish I was seeing more “blue” people testifying on the live stream I am viewing. It looks like they haven’t even screened people to be sure that they are residents of the Municipality of Anchorage, which I don’t get at all, unless there is some back room agenda that wanted more “red” people from the valley to add their opinions to this ordinance discussion.

Gramiam, those threats weren’t all htat veiled, from where I sit. Angry guy!`

  673. califpat says:

The Russian guy should be more tolerant of others due to the fact that it is our Constitution that gives him the right to be a citizen in America nad allows him to enjoy basic rights.

  674. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

did we run out of the blue pills? cause i didn’t get that whole thing about starting to protect the majority instead of the minority….

  675. Gramiam says:

The SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!! So sayeth the latest Red Shirt.

  676. clydedog says:

yes, there are huge herds of gays waiting to pounce on unsuspecting employers as soon as this is passed. And they will use a different bathroom each day.

  677. Lori in Los Angeles says:

my screen has a BIG glare from top of this guys head. blinding glare, ouch.

  678. CorningNY says:

    Buddy–if you didn’t discriminate, you wouldn’t get sued…Duh.

  679. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

15 balls – that is all i am going to remember…..

  680. Gramiam says:

The Kid who issued the veiled threats about corruption. Bet he is a Palinbot.

  681. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

califpat — i was pretty confused too. especially when he said he goes home to do what he believes in?

  682. seattlefan says:

Oh my…from the sounds of it things are not going well. I had to leave for a meeting tonight and just got back. Are they still letting the “out-of towners” speak? Why are these “religious” people so full of hate and judgement? I am not religious at all and I know I have WAY more compassion and love than these people profess to have. What is happening here?

  683. justafarmer says:

    lol, Gramian, got that right!

  684. austintx says:

    de-escalate

  685. Nan says:

Now, I don’t agree with this guy, but I am just giddy that here is a man that has learned he does have a voice in this country, and he is using that voice to speak what he feels is right.

That’s just terrific. (he has gay friend, he didn’t know, but found out and is still friends)

  686. CorningNY says:

He had to watch his back a little more often because of his gay friend? Gag me.

  687. Lori in Los Angeles says:

OBAMA now, oy vey – well, at least he prays for our prez. instead of promoting violence.

  688. justafarmer says:

    niters Ennealogic!

  689. califpat says:

Was the guy who wanted to vote for or against the ordinance? I wasnt quite sure.

  690. Gramiam says:

Watch it, young Russian person. Sarah Palin may come after your butt!!.

  691. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

i know this is going somewhere. but i would never have thought it would go “against it”. he teeters between being half-way cool and then splat….

  692. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Nan,
Agreed. He spoke more like a young punk. Threatening looking to the blues. Turns to reds – should be decided by them! Dun’t think so

  693. Nan says:

feels gay style is not safe (naturalized citizen). not against people – just against “style”

  694. austintx says:

Well – here is the “Borat” of the evening……..poor schmuck

  695. Lori in Los Angeles says:

is this the radio guy who pranked sarah on the campaign trail? “gays=AIDS, Im a not a gonna support a that.”

  696. CorningNY says:

Gay lifestyle is not safe…and this has to do with discrimination how?

  697. kerryann63 says:

but Alaska does not have a state tax, right? so the $300 every two weeks goes to DC not Anchorage so he’s not paying for anyone’s lunch there.

  698. Ennealogic says:

Last night’s late live blogging has caught up…

Got to rest, work in less than 8. Bless you all who still listen to the all-too-frequent arrogant ones.

And for what it is worth, I really respect the Anchorage Assembly for sitting through all this.

@redwoodmuse – may peace be with you and strenght and rejuvination be with your SIL

@justafarmer – hope your chicks all survive the storms and that you get some much needed rest

and @everyone else… remember that in order to change the world, the only thing we can affect directly is ourselves.

Be well, mudpuppies. I do love you.

  699. Polly says:

851 clydedog Says: In my tiny town we only have public hearings about sewers and garbage collection.
    __________
so tongue in cheek, your comment made me chuckle..
maybe one of our “problems” here in AK is we are only 50 years old, and going through growing pains …

  700. clydedog says:

  703. marzapan says:

  706. justafarmer says:

yewwww, I hate people who feel they are entitled to lecture people…

  707. Lori in Los Angeles says:

we need to vote on this, this is a “home rule” city – we should be voting on this matter – not for an ACTING MAYOR to rush this through.

  708. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

bring back the kid that had trouble reading

  709. Nan says:

    oh, yowch.

Saying that it should be referendum, not the assembly/council folks

  710. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

  717. Lori in Los Angeles says:

celtic diva has veen called up. go Linda.

  718. Nan says:

sounds like freakin’ deliberate, malice-aforethought, obtuseness

  719. justafarmer says:

bet this young short guy has probs in public bathrooms. Is he related to last night’s Mr. Unavailable?

  720. clydedog says:

he is scared of gays, mabey because he is short

  721. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

aren’t GLBT people the children of a man + woman?

  723. CO almost native says:

“nite, Ripley- don’t forget that mudpups love you.

  724. CorningNY says:

OK, citing the dictionary is not a persuasive argument.

  725. califpat says:

Mr. Christian: If you are not gay, how would you know if a person is born gay or not. What you do know is that you are intolerant of others and that’s all you know!

  726. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he is using all his time to read the dictionary. thnx mr. daniel webster.

  727. kerryann63 says:

@seattlefan Kelly is Shannyn’s Kelly, smart and good looking so she’s seems to be a keeper. Some of these guys have mentioned a parade that had people wearing dog collars (?) sorry i missed that parade

  728. Ennealogic says:

    Another red shirt guy

He’s been discriminated because he looks too young and he’s too short, and because he is a Christian.

[I can see where this is going.]

  729. Doggonit says:

Christian guy wants an ordinance to protect him from discrimination for being a dwarf.

  730. Gramiam says:

New guy, I am short, young looking, Christian. I am discriminated against. Poor baby!!

  731. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

oy — this young man needs to have a bit more passion. i almost felt his pain for not being recognized for being 23. but he can’t read.

  732. clydedog says:

being short is the same as being gay

  733. justafarmer says:

what on earth is with the reddies carrying up the big black bibles to the podium? I thought they all this stuff memorized.

  734. Ripley in CT says:

    I can’t watch any longer…. I hate this. I”m outta here.

  735. Doggonit says:

Guy says Christian are being killed all around the world for what they belief in.

  736. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he believes in Jesus Christ, so therefore is against the ordinance. quite the conclusion, lol. here comes another bible guy.

  737. Gramiam says:

Not born gay, just born with a sinful nature. We Christians are the ones discriminated against. Yeah, right!!

  738. Ennealogic says:

Red shirt guy:” I’m a believer in Jesus christ so I am against this ordinance.”

    Nuff said.

  739. MinNJ says:

    clydedog
In my experience, I really sucks to be a bigger owner. But I’m tryin to let that go.

  740. clydedog says:

  742. Doggonit says:

Lady says she wouldn’t send her child to a school that teaches Darwinism. Where is she going to find that?

  743. kerryann63 says:

so this girl would be okay if she’s not hired because she’s blonde? she seems to think it’s okay for businesses to use whatever criteria they want.

  744. Gramiam says:

Must be nice to be so sure you are the only ones who are right. Geeeeesh!!

  745. Lori in Los Angeles says:

this lady sure believes in her right to discriminate – does she know how stupid this sounds?

  746. seattlefan says:

    Thank you kerryann63

Dog collars? WTF is that about.
    Kelly….who is Kelly?
    I get the rest.

    Thanks again.

  747. clydedog says:

I am against it because my dad is

  748. Canadian Neighbour says:

Her mention that non-profits may loose some federal funding because of discrimination is trueful. It raises the point that it’s unfortunate that no one can address the issue of Prevo having tax-exemption and he participates in government issues.

  749. Gramiam says:

Wave the flag and chastise the unelected mayor for voting for this ordinance. Wants to hear more religious rants until Sullivan vetoes.

  750. Lori in Los Angeles says:

seth is objecting on grounds that this is not an elected mayor. taking away rights of the people.

  751. Ennealogic says:

Seth Roberts – “so far the people have been ignored in this ordinance…” He’s against. Says that Claman who gets to vote on this is wrong.

  752. Ripley in CT says:

this guy is totally anti Mayor. Taking away his right to vote.

  753. kerryann63 says:

@seattlefan lots of worry about bathrooms for some reason, men apparently not comfortable with their own sexuality and dog collars in parades. Oh and Kelly

  754. clydedog says:

Why is the person on or with the panel wearing red. Political or not very observant.

  755. CO almost native says:

oops. Spoke too soon- glad there are some voices of reason.

  756. Ripley in CT says:

You know, the blues are so much better prepared. Each of them speaks from their heart. The reds are so unhinged.

  757. Forty Watt says:

Snos, I find it distressing too that people who have suffered from anything at all would not want to do what they can to prevent others suffering. It seems there are people who say, “this happened to me. I didn’t like it. I don’t want anyone else to go through it.” Then there seems to be people who want others to suffer as they did. I wish we knew what made the difference.

  758. seattlefan says:

Had to leave for a couple of hours. Back now and hoping the tide has changed. No way to catch up on the comments. Can someone give a 10 word or less summary what I missed the last 2 hours? Thanks.

  759. MinNJ says:

    Gramiam, yes, we do! Cool!

  760. Ennealogic says:

Kay, masters degree, mentions that this discussion has been going on since ’76. Exhorts Golden Rule. Urge passage of ordinance. Strengthens her statement by noting recent hate crimes (e.g Tiller). She does social service. Does not discriminate.

  761. clydedog says:

In my tiny town we only have public hearings about sewers and garbage collection.

  762. BuffaloGal says:

    Ahhhhhh…..

At 11:51 EST a lovely young man came forth to share his thoughts and one part of his statement was “and the sky’s not going to fall if this ordinance passes” and it was followed by a woman quoting the Golden Rule.

  763. Liked the Kelly guy–made sense, and nice to look at!
    Can he speak again, please???

  764. kerryann63 says:

Older lady geta a big 5 In fact I’m giving her two 5’s

  765. CO almost native says:

Yikes. Same ass hat logic before I made a beer run, same ass hat logic now that I’m back. Are they clones?

  766. Gramiam says:

    Lady is from Anchorage too.

  767. justafarmer says:

    she is great!

  768. Lori in Los Angeles says:

kelly walters lives in anchrage and pays taxes there. good point, I wish the assemby did not allow the bused in people or people of either side to testify if not residents. anchcorage issue.
this lady says one side is fear and hate and one side hope and (something else good )sounds like the red Repubs and the blue Dems in Washington too.

  769. Gramiam says:

Older lady, harks back to 1975 ordinance. “Where is Golden Rule? Seniors ROCK!!

  770. austintx says:

Iowa a liberal bastion……..I like him……..urging to vote yes …..liked his comment about living there , other speakers don’t

  771. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Like this guy
Laws in lower 48 – Sun still rising. Sky won’t fall. People still getting married!
Fortune 500 company worked for 17 years. Has Sex orientation laws — not one problem

  772. Ennealogic says:

Kelly Walters. Lives in Anchorage. Addresses fear. Asserts that sexual orientation is part of training he got in companies he’s worked for. Tries to dispel fear about 64, so that people who choose religion or are born gay can be respected.

  773. justafarmer says:

    YAY for him!!!

  774. Gramiam says:

    Can I take him home?

  775. kerryann63 says:

wow Shannyn, he’s hot and smart. what a catch!!!!

  776. Gramiam says:

Yesssssssssss!! A real Anchorite. Not even close to “Gay Marriage”. like in Iowa. Way behind that. a big high 5!!!!

  777. Ripley in CT says:

Kelly: Check your religion at the door! YAY

  778. Nan says:

rephrasing – not enforced well enough – that’s what I should have said, didn’t mean to suggest it wasn’t.

  779. justafarmer says:

nice point this guy made: I live here in Anchorage and pay taxes here.

  780. MinNJ says:

My love is with every soul that takes a breath; God loves no other.

  781. Nan says:

another one with “rushing things thru” and suggesting that it’s been “questionable” how it’s been going on.

protecting children from molesters (isn’t that already on the dang books? just not enforced apparently – sorry)

  782. clydedog says:

Passing will lead to child molestation. Flawed because it has no protection. I think there are other laws for that.

  783. Canadian Neighbour says:

Red – We will vote this one down if it gets approved.
Law a disaster. Children not protected from child molesters.
Why isn’t that in there (ord docs)?

  784. Ennealogic says:

yet another plea from chairwoman for people to stop cheering etc…

Some half bald man in white shirt, wants to see ordinance voted down. He’s been in on this debate for years. Can’t understand whether ‘teh gay’ is nurture, nature or something else. Talking about collective morality and wants to see numbers that show there is really discrimination. Bringing up “for the children.”

  785. Ripley in CT says:

    it’s Kelly!

  786. justafarmer says:

here we go, children and child molesters. Bathrooms can’t be far behind…

  787. kerryann63 says:

@justafarmer yeppers he’s got a dictionary and knows how these politicians work. he’ll be watching and he will know

  788. justafarmer says:

who is he keep looking at over his shoulder?

  789. marzapan says:

“the condition”? I have to mute this guy!

  790. Gramiam says:

Threatens action if approved. “We know who you are” is the implication. yet another asshat.

  791. Ripley in CT says:

    *yyyaaaawwwwnnnn*…

  792. clydedog says:

These “straights” sure seem to know alot about gay history and culture.

  793. Closet Mudpup says:

Inappropriate talk and intimidation going on outside. I haven’t seen it — but it’s both sides doing it. WTF??

  794. justafarmer says:

did he just accuse the Assembly members of nefarious backroom deals???

  795. Doggonit says:

Did he say backroom politics or bathroom politics?

  796. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she is pleading ith them to stop cheering and yelling. who is in charge here? escort them out for pete’s sake.

  797. Nan says:

good grief, HUGE clapping and whoopin’ and hollerin’ for that guy.

  798. Gramiam says:

    Yadda, yadda, yadda!!

  799. Ennealogic says:

Robbie Helk, asked for time to restart. Looks to Claman, wants time restarted. Tells Claman he needs to attend to other issues, economic, … he hasn’t heard of discrimination but he will allow it exists. Red jacket. “is this the truth.. have to filter the truth .. this ordinance does not line up with truth.” Claims that red shirts have been intimidated from coming forward.

  800. Nan says:

    “what is truth” – WHAT????

  801. lexky says:

    im back
people actually expect me to work at wok. jeez

  802. Canadian Neighbour says:

Guess this guy cannot multi-task like others. Making sure everyone stops everything to listen to HIM.
Removes red hat out of respect not to be a turncoat like a person last night.

  803. justafarmer says:

ok, I’m back. Had to reboot…

  804. clydedog says:

    another guy with a dictionary

  805. Gramiam says:

I’m with you, Ripley!! Scary dude.

  806. Nan says:

oh boy. asked to start the timer over again. Now insists on full attn from “Acting Mayor may I have your attn (pause pause)- did you stop the timer for this?” geez.

  807. austintx says:

    Can I have your attention ?? prick…..

  808. kerryann63 says:

wow this guy’s a real tool. red hat, red jacket, red shirt very combative mr acting mayor?

  809. califpat says:

Mr. Suit, holier than thou: when did basic human rights become special privileges or Special rights. How is giving a segment of the population the same rights you so thoroughly enjoy to them going to take you rights away from you?

  810. Gramiam says:

Asshat!!!!! trying to school the assembly.

  811. Ripley in CT says:

what a chooch this guy is. He’s really confrontational. I’d be afraid of him on the street.

  812. Ennealogic says:

Paula Davis. Has faced discrimination as woman who has applied for male job. She is teacher. Says she didn’t think so before but now it is very important to teach tolerance. Ordinance is important to work toward equal rights.

  813. Lori in Los Angeles says:

tolerance is the future in our multi-culteral society says this teacher. amen.

  814. kerryann63 says:

love teacher lady a big 5

  815. Gramiam says:

The lady behind him looks like a feisty type. Give ’em hell, honey!! Paula Davis, teacher
required to teach a tolerance program. Didn’t understand the reason until now.

  816. MinNJ says:

This is gross and uninformed and ridilucous. But this is Alaska. It’s accepted most everywhere (she said diplomatically.) You are not inventing a new alphabet.

  817. clydedog says:

procedural guy turned into deviant guy

  818. Ennealogic says:

    Now, Mike Flanagan #227
Believes this ordinance is addressing behavior and not people groups… says ordinance is being ramrodded through. He thinks laws proposed are not based on facts. Is concerned that ‘sexual orientation’ allows bestiality, pedophiles etc. “Can’t take away MY rights and give them to someone else and call that fair.” Deviant.

  819. Ripley in CT says:

O.M.G. he’s talking about deviant behaviors, ie. human/animal pairings!!! WTF?

  820. clydedog says:

There is always some procedural bozo who love to hear themselves talk.

  821. samper says:

Snoskred: I’m sorry that you feel “out of the fold”. Really, I do. Keep up the good fight for a healthy lifestyle!

However, on a plane (or train, bus, amusement ride, etc.) seats are “made” to accommodate “average”.

If one is “above” average, that poses a problem in either comfort to other users (crowding) or revenue (2 seats for the price of 1).

I am NOT discriminating against the “over average”, but industries make fine calculations on how big a seat should be based on a ton of data.

That the few rare “over average” (trying desperately to be PC, here) folks seem entitled to take away the comfort or revenue just doesn’t seem right to me, with my VERY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE AND RESEARCH (disclaimer) on the subject.

I am NOT bashing the overweight. I’m no stick thinner myself. I’m 5’7″ and about 160… definitely could lose a few pounds.

I’m just saying that there are OTHER concerns that have to be considered…. mainly 1) other passenger comfort and 2) losing revenue.

Businesses are in business to make $$. As crass as it may sound, forcing them to give someone 2 seats for the price of one only increases the burden (higher prices) on those who don’t require this accommodation.

I love you for who you are, and as you are. Please don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think the Public At Large should foot the bill in $$ or discomfort.

    Respectfully in every sense,
    Samper

  822. clydedog says:

Where does he get this don’t ask don’t tell crap like it is some law.

  823. marzapan says:

I just tuned in and I have to say, y’all have stronger stomachs than me. I cannot take it! What a fearful bunch… ugh.

  824. Buffalo Gal, I don’t know about him in FL either.

and did I just hear body sounds again?

  825. Ennealogic says:

“I’d Like to welcome the new moral majority to the Assembly”

Sounds like a snark? Oh god, he’s saying that to pass this will be at the expense of others. He’s doing an “I’m better than you” routine and dissing the Assembly.

He’s basically a proponent for don’t ask, don’t tell, and doesn’t believe the Assembly should validate ‘teh gay.’

  826. Ripley in CT says:

he says that people don’t really care what people do in their private life.

The red-shirts have thrown that idea out, wouldn’t you say?

  827. BuffaloGal says:

I love that , being in Buffalo, I don’t know about Glenn Beagle (SP??)

Please tell me about him and what he’s about. I really like (and might love ) where he’s going with this . 11:35PM EST.

  828. clydedog says:

What is with the “enhanced rights” talking point. It is about basic rights.

  829. justafarmer says:

ratzzzzz. Hope everyone else can see/hear. I got nothing but a bathroom.

  830. Gramiam says:

He better leave my damn cookies alone!!

New guy… ” I would like to welcome the New Moral Majority to the Assembly” ……Don’t ask Don’t tell”

  831. califpat says:

This guy quoting from Genesis talks about changing your heart. He needs to change his heart to open it to all people.

  832. Doggonit says:

    Is the guy Al Gore?

  833. kerryann63 says:

jeez, i seem to be chatty tonight. do these people realize that God did not write the bible? men wrote the bible giving it their oh-so-special misogynistic slant.

  834. Lori in Los Angeles says:

just came back here after a break – a sea of red shirts, ugh. this one has learned bigotry at such a young age, and he speaks about love? a prom in Boston discrimated agains God. Now, HE is the victim for supporting Jesus. ugh.

  835. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Why the clapping allowed tonight??

  836. Ennealogic says:

#181 Brian, red shirt, “obviously in opposition” … reading scripture Genesis. He claims he is discriminated against because he heard a protester say something that was an abomination to him. Quoting a “world net daily” article. [LOLOL] He’s now claiming he is being discriminated against.

  837. justafarmer says:

    oh noes!!!!! lost the livestream!!!!

  838. BuffaloGal says:

at 11:30pm – What in the world is this man saying talking about the Noah floods connected with the ordinance? He’s quoting something about leather and heavy petting.

He’s saying that this is against his choice. “We have to change hearts, not laws” .

    What??

  839. justafarmer says:

back to the Scotch bottle if he mentions bathrooms…

  840. Gramiam says:

    Sure!!! SKINHEAD!!

  841. Canadian Neighbour says:

For all these reds talking the dressing as man one day and woman next, the burden of proof should be on them with legal certified copies of documentation proving it. Paranoia Plus!!

  842. Gramiam says:

    And again with the bathrooms??

  851. Ennealogic says:

NAMBLA — Gays are pedophiles. FAIL

  853. justafarmer says:

  854. Ripley in CT says:

he’s bringing up NAMBLA… that organization is deviant. It’s also illegal already.

    what’s with the dog collars?

    AGAIN with bathroom talk…. *chug*

  855. califpat says:

And of course Lady there were no documentation that African Americans were being discriminated against at one time but they were and it took a diversity of people to help fight for the rights that allow you to stand up there and say the nonsense you are spewing. How dare you infringe on other people’s rights and spew discrimination in the name of love. You should be one who knows how it feels to be denied your rights and have empathy for other people who are being discriminated against. I am shamed of you and your bigotry. Sheesh!

    OOh. she was good.

  863. MinNJ says:

Hey, b. Talk to you soon, ‘k? This is wild here. Good grief, don’t we know what tolerance and acceptance is? (speaking for us on the east coast) I don’t get it: what’s the deal? Nothing. We’re all just human, get over it. It’s been at least 30 years when this has been an issue with anyone that I know.

  874. Nan says:

oh boy. “no documented evidence of disccrim based on sex orientation – no denial of housing, or even of employment” – back in 85 when she was an investigator for the state

  884. clydedog says:

The last guy that was on (preacher dude/dj) tried to make the point that no one knew what was in your mind (ie if you are gay) so there is no need for an ordinance. What he doesn’t get is it doesn’t protect from people that don’t know or don’t care, it protects us from people who do know (for whatever reason) and do care (to discriminate). Details lost on most of the crowd I am sure.

  885. Gramiam says:

OMG!! You mean all those kids may be playing doctor?

  886. Snoskred says:

    the problem child wrote –
Snos, In Canada the rights of the obese are also protected re: airline and train seats (public transportation). Being overweight does not always mean lack of control re: “chips and cokes”.

Your point is well taken, however re: “choices”. The problem, of course, is it’s not always a choice. Many overweight people have underlying disabilities that mean they can’t get out and exercise.

And many overweight people are discriminated against in ways that gay or lesbian people are – because they are not stick thin people – because they are different. The fact that any of them are coming out against this ordinance really steams me up. They should be for it – and they should be asking to add in something about *size* in there.

I know it isn’t always a choice – as I said, I am not stick thin myself. I am for a society that does not discriminate against anyone at all, including fat people like that woman who got up there with her hate. I know why she has hate – she gets a lot of it directed at her due to her size. The fact that she does not see the similarity between people hating on her because of her size, and people hating on gays or lesbians just floors me.

It makes me angry. And I have to say, I am not willing to make excuses for her. They claim that being gay is a choice – if that is true, so is being overweight. Sure, some people might have a genetic problem, or it might be physical, but for the majority of people it is just overeating.

For me personally, I believe both are genetic and not a choice.

A pastor got up before and talked about going to the maternity ward and not seeing any homosexual or lesbian babies. He used it as an argument that babies are not born gay. I bet he did not see any obese babies either.

I say this as one of only two people who were overweight being present in the assembly room at school while some local scientist got up there and gave a lecture titled “Why fat people are dirty people”. There is discrimination against people not stick thin – everything from not being able to easily buy clothes that fit, to being forced to buy two plane seats when travelling.

I have personally enjoyed that discrimination for the majority of my life – even when I did manage to lose a lot of weight and get down to a weight which was considered within the healthy weight range for my size, the people at my school still treated me like a fat person. When I moved schools and went to a new place that nobody knew me as a “fat person” things really changed for me.

Regardless of what size I am on the outside – and how normal or not normal I might look today – I will always remember how I was treated when I was larger on the outside. It was horrible. It is not something I would wish on anyone.

So it really makes me mad that any large person would get up there and be against stopping discrimination. That is why I am making these sarcastic comments about that woman. I am angry that she is there, wearing red. She should be there wearing blue. I am angry that the children of any of these people will be forced to hate people because they are different – and some of them will likely suffer discrimination because *they* are different.

  887. Canadian Neighbour says:

    BuffaloGal,
Would keep the red shirts out!!
    But then they would cry!!

  888. Gramiam says:

Jealousy? Perhaps a touch of envy? ” I ain’t gettin’ any so why should they”?

  889. samper says:

Nan: NO laughing! IT’S TRUTH BE TOLD!!!!

    You guys are frickin’ HILARIOUS!!!!

  890. Nan says:

Doggonit – we figured yesterday there must have been 40 kids in that bathroom (with the “extra visitors”) so maybe that’s the reason it’s taking so long. Just sayin’

  891. Ripley in CT says:

samper, that may be the problem… Their gay “friends” are getting more action.

  892. samper says:

    OK, my only questions are:

    Why the bathroom obsession?

Why the bedroom obsession when THEY weren’t even INVITED to the bedroom in the first place??????

  893. BuffaloGal says:

Just had a really fun thought of making sure the stalls at the meeting hall were stocked with ” Gays for Jesus” TP with a big ol rainbow in the background.

Ok – I’m going to attempt connecting again to the meeting. It just so doesn’t seem to like me much tho.

  927. Ripley in CT says:

Gramiam, I’m glad I came in tonight, too, if only to bear witness to the incredible depths of clarity in this group of puppies. And the humor, wit, and salacious commentary on the red-shirters….impossible to experience any other way.

  949. Mirage 18 says:

Maybe we should play “Potty Pong”? Every time somebody testifying at the Assembly brings up bathroom stories, you get to take a swig. Anyone can play – alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages can be used as Potty Pong doesn’t discriminate.

Gramiam – As a gay woman I can share with you that gay people don’t pee. Our time in restrooms is spent having mad crazy sex and recruiting straight folks. We have little time for anything else. Oh…other than lighting the black candles to …. (damn – i’ve said too much )

  986. WakeUpAmerica says:

My goodness, the paranoia about a gay person coming to work as a man one day and a woman the next. I have never actually heard of that being a problem. ANYWHERE!! AT ANY TIME!! Where are they getting this stuff? These aren’t real problems, but typical Baptist, I’m sorry to say. The minister at the Baptist school my daughter went to for awhile told the class that gay people should not be allowed to work in restaurants because they spit in the food and try to give all the straight people AIDs. Absolutely blew my mind that an educated person could be so hateful and ignorant.

  987. Ennealogic says:

I’m lol so hard. I don’t think I will EVER look at a public restroom, be it in Lowes or Martins or an airport .. the same as before. I shall forever be fearfully checking for cross-dressing men daring to invade my private bathroom space, and probably leering at me … or maybe they could be GAY men ! or even people with weenies who think they should have been born as girls and who dress in dresses… oh dear me…

    /snark

  988. Nan says:

antiAnti – thanks Am in st louis – no sirens so far. this is good lol

  989. Gramiam says:

I have a question. With all the fear, concern and anger over what “goes on” in bathrooms, when do these folks have time to tinkle?

  990. Snoskred says:

Also I am really having some trouble with the largeness of some of these people. While I am not stick thin myself, I am also not a christian, and therefore do not feel the need to stick with the “treat your body as a temple” stuff that is in the bible.

But it seems like that might be ok anyway, because none of them seem to be treating their bodies as temples. Some of them in fact seem to be force feeding it potato chips and coca cola, and way more food than they should be eating in order to treat their body as a temple.

So given that they ignore that particular part of the bible, why should we be forced to follow along the parts of the bible that they want to force onto society?

And I am sure she is also fine with the fact that people stare at her when she is eating, and she knows they are thinking “you shouldn’t be eating that”. And I am sure nobody has ever walked up to her and said “You really should look for more healthy options to eat, given your massive size”. Landlord says he discriminates against tenants who are disruptive. He has had people move out in one case because their neighbors were homosexual. Claims ‘teh gay’ is not normal behavior. “if a group of people is set aside as a special group, you have to prove you are not against them” .. he discriminates against behavior that is not acceptable.

  1153. Nan says:

this guy sez he discriminates against “behavior”

but ‘what about this or that behavior (getting married)

they guy sez “behavior that is acceptable” (non-answer)

  1154. Ripley in CT says:

I own a duplex. Would it be wrong if I won’t rent to a straight couple? I WISH I could find a nice gay couple.

  1155. califpat says:

Melvin, the woman, not to be confused as a man, thinks that every citizen already receives protection (meaning equal rights). She definitely has on the blinders! And you Melvin, the woman, not to be confused with a man, are a big fat hypocrite!!

  1156. Greytdog Δ says:

Any of the red shirts sporting stigmata yet?

  1157. kerryann63 says:

  1158. Seagull Junker Palin says:

    LOL poor Melvin!

  1162. Bucfan says:

It is amazing how the red shirts are trying to so how open they are “I am not intolerant” “I have hired gay people” then rip the hell out of the gay community

  1163. Greytdog Δ says:

What rude little kids these folks have – peeking into occupied bathroom stalls! perverts!

  1164. Ripley in CT says:

this guy had people move out of his apartment because their neighbors were gay. He’s wearing blue, the jerk.

    He’s a bigot.

  1165. Ennealogic says:

[chairwoman recalling names who were not present before, this is their last chance]

ok Melvin ? woman in big red shirt, christian female, male gendered name. married for 30 years even with male name. in opposition to ordinance… talks about choosing sexual practices. Ordinance already provides sufficient protection. Refers to threat against Assembly member but says if you are threatened with being voted out, you deserve it.

  1166. Canadian Neighbour says:

    God Calling!!! LOL (phone rang)

  1167. Nan says:

she’s upset cuz one of the people on this board (council? whateer) actually went and told the newspaper they’d gotten threats. (huh?)

  1168. Seagull Junker Palin says:

About the chick with the guys name….huh?

1169. Lori in Los Angeles says:

melvin is a female and so proud of it. she is discriminated against because of her first name. so change it, jeesh. says all citizens already receive protection from discrimination.

  1170. Bucfan says:

    Who received threats?

  1171. Seagull Junker Palin says:

    huh?

  1172. Bucfan says:

I am not intolerant (which means that I am) I have many gay friends (which means that I don’t)

  1173. kerryann63 says:

wow she has a man’s name? she’s reaching

  1174. Ripley in CT says:

Melvin? Christian female with male gender name. Married. Never was confused on her gender. Been perceived as male.

    CHOOCH alert!!

  1175. Canadian Neighbour says:

  1176. Bucfan says:

  1177. justafarmer says:

1179. Lori in Los Angeles says:

  1180. Marnie says:

Why do these Holier-Than-Everyone-Else-People spend so much time thinking about other people have sex?

The perverts are them they just are in such denial they can’t see sicko sex pervert when they see one in the mirror.

Wonder what they discussin front of their children?

  1181. Ripley in CT says:

  1182. mmboucher Florida says:

I’m a 65 year old female have done a lot a traveling by auto, stopped at a lot of rest rooms: I never saw any males, or cross genders in the rest rooms!!!!!! How are all of these kids seeing them?

  1183. Bucfan says:

Are they checking id’s to make sure people are who they say they are? Just sayin

  1184. califpat says:

Sid, you may be doing more damage to your children who you so adamantly say you want to protect by allowing them to be homophobic and frighten of anybody that is different.

  1185. Ennealogic says:

Sid Atwood. Never lived under or saw any prejudice. Won’t use Bible cuz it’s been misused plenty already. Testifies that gay people are no threat. “Laws are one thing, morality is another.” One of his sons and one of his daughters is gay. But you wouldn’t have known it.

1186. Lori in Los Angeles says:

good point to separate “deviants” from Gays – 2 different issues. deviants in any group. right on.

  1187. Canadian Neighbour says:

Not going to use Bible — it’s been misused already.
    7 kids
    Never seen prejudice
Two of his sons lived in house with person they did not know was gay. This father said he did. He wasn’t a threat. At bedside when he died.
    Calm speaking man.

  1188. Ripley in CT says:

    I like this man. Sincere.

says his gay neighbor was no threat. Deviants exist everywhere. People are breaking laws everywhere.

2 of his kids are gay.!!! I knew it.

  1189. Nan says:

never experienced – never SAW prejudice… was foreign

Jesus was alone – and taught “love thy neighbor” – and that’s all he’s gonna say from the bible as it’s already been “misused too much” (wow)

  1190. califpat says:

I think the lady’s name is Faith. Finally, a voice of reason and sanity. I applaud you and your rationale for showing that civil rights taken from anybody is wrong.

  1191. justafarmer says:

didn’t we have a man with seven kids last night?

this is me asking a question:

What is so damned “special” about wanting to have the same rights guaranteed to ALL citizens, for crying out loud?!
    ———————-
    Exactly!
And, how is granting equal rights to one group, taking iaway from oters?

  1195. Ennealogic says:

Red shirt youngish man, fearing his 9 yr old daughter being scarred for life seeing a transgender in “all his glory” in a restroom– how do you take that back? [Good grief]

More restroom, “MAN IN THE BATHROOM — screech screech”

[Screaming in fear? Why would they fear unless you taught them to fear???]

  1196. Nan says:

This one plans on protecting kid from the restroom from hell (remember yesterday?)

  1197. Gramiam says:

Why are they letting the restroom stories continue.
How about special rights for Foot Fetishists. Make Sarah share her “naughty monkey” shoes. ROFL!!

  1198. Bucfan says:

Ripley, Larry Craig is in the bathroom

  1199. Greytdog Δ says:

    he’s talking about Larry craig

1200. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he is repeating the bathroom story – little girl afraid, man in bathroom – hahaha, liars – repeating the same story as if it happened to them.

  1201. Canadian Neighbour says:

Father of 7 – Ord is not equal rights it’s special rights.
    Taking rights away from individuals.
Equal rights to those with foot fetishes?? Huh
Mommy – there’s a man in the bathroom. (Didn’t get their new talking points)
Protect my children at all costs. (I can imagine)

  1202. justafarmer says:

“daughter runs out of public restroom screaming…..”
give me a freaking break already….

  1203. Nan says:

justafarmer – thanks… anybody bring peanuts?

  1204. Bucfan says:

They want their gender? I kind of was born with mine.

  1205. Ripley in CT says:

why are these men so worried about bathrooms? I don’t get it. It’s not a “special right”. Why don’t they clarify the reason for the ordinance again? Why don’t they take control?

  1206. austintx says:

    restroom…….all his glory………restroom again………WTF !!

  1207. Seagull Junker Palin says:

Nan – I saved that South Pacific song you posted – had never heard it before – but it’s soooooooooooo dang true! When was it written? Late 40’s??? Amazing.

  1208. kerryann63 says:

what do these people have with restrooms?????

  1209. zyggy says:

The Jewish Woman spoke with so much sincerity and now the idiot redshirt is talking about bathroom incidents, how can he even talk like that. He could say the very same thing about Jewish people, and he’d be sued. Idiot idiot man, and it’s a straight man in the bathroom.

  1210. Bucfan says:

Foot Fetishes? Oh my God. He said restroom.

  1211. ChiCat says:

Ugh, I don’t know how you all can be watching this! Just reading the comments paraphrasing these holier-than-thou-yet-filled-with-hate red shirts is making me sick to my stomach and mad as hell. It’s funny, I live in a state with full rights, including marriage, for all, and our society has not crumbled. The “gay mafia” hasn’t taken over. We don’t have an AIDS epidemic (well, not any worse than any other state). God has not smote us down. We are doing fine, thank you very much.

However, I am there in solidarity in spirit.

  1212. Nan says:

this is me asking a question:

What is so damned “special” about wanting to have the same rights guaranteed to ALL citizens, for crying out loud?!

1213. Lori in Los Angeles says:

special rights for foot fetishes! OK.

  1214. justafarmer says:

    oh dang….the restroom…….
    handing around the Scotch!!!!!

  1215. Ennealogic says:

Woman compares holocaust to smear campaign against gays. Witnessed transgender-bashing. Asks Assembly not to continue to sanction this intolerance. Her statement is good because she repeats what she wishes… not to fall prey to the pressure.

  1216. lexky says:

    special rights?

  1217. Bucfan says:

  1225. Greytdog Δ says:

omigod, the inanity the inanity that spews forth. . . when are they gonna part this red sea?

  1226. Nan says:

oh wow. Girl announces she’s a Jew. references holocaust.

shows similiarities (boycott jewish bidness, etc)

  1227. Ennealogic says:

Larry Hall, Anchorage. He tried to get away from all this crap by moving to Anchorage but everyone moved up here! His employees must get haircuts. He refuses to keep someone on for not getting a haircut. If he’d hired a transexual how far would he have gotten in his business. Duh.

  1228. Nan says:

what – women can’t work on cars? Dang! I’ll have to tell hubby (I’m the one that did that work).

1229. wtf! this guy reminds me of that song about “signs”.

“so I took off my hat, and said imagine that! me working for you!”

    LOL

  1230. califpat says:

Here is an African American, (I am African American), who has not a clue. He is definitely old enough to know how it feels to be discriminated against, but how soon we forget. Now he feels entitled to deny others the same rights we fought so hard for. OOh,, I cannot stand it! He has become a sheep and follower of stupidity and bigotry. They come in all colors. So sad!!

  1238. Ripley in CT says:

  1239. justafarmer says:

Black pastor. Love does not mean agreement. Love means in spite of. He never saw a homosexual baby… you can’t excuse someone for being born that way who is a murder … same for homosexuals. He’s another black man who rejects the homosexual issue because he calls it a behavior whereas his personal struggle was because he was born that way (race).

  1320. Nan says:

    sorry I’m late I have a Job.

red & blue shirt (?) grew up around discrimination against gay/les –

1321. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Here is a man with half blue shirt and half red shirt. should be interesting.

  1323. Ennealogic says:

[i’m drinking tonight .. forgive if my reports get flubbered later on!]

Woman with blue round button on dark jacket… talking about historical discrimination in Alaska against natives. She’s native. Has suffered abuse and prejudice and even attacks. Claims those opposed are trying to brutalize LGBT and de-humanize them. GOOD speech.

[You know, if the law at least states that discrimination is wrong, it will take a while but eventually the people will bend to that.]

  1324. Gramiam says:

Yay!! Woman comparing this legislation to that for equal rights for native Americans. A five three times!!!!

  1325. Nan says:

starts with labelling others as “less or dirty or etc”

1326. Lori in Los Angeles says:

same justification was used to segragate and marginalize another group – this is about thinking one group is superior to another. she is good.

  1327. Bucfan says:

YES! I love this woman. DOn’t tell my wife though

  1328. califpat says:

Next thing happened, he was charged with discrimination against her… He was exonerated finally, but found out his employee abused ERC in previous cases. So, adding a new class opens door to further abuse.

He admits there was no evidence. He says he has ethnic relatives and gay relatives. He would not extend rights any further.

Invidious: calculated to create ill will, give offense; hateful; offensively or unfairly discriminating

  1385. Ennealogic says:

Gee. This fellow goes by different names and now wants a description of the word “invidious.” He is saying “shame on you” to the Assembly. Then he goes on to inveigle against the usurpation of the righteous male role … he’s reading off something way too fast, but it’s clear he’s pissed. And he’s talking too closely to the mic making his words all fuzzy. Hehe. Cost. Shame on the Assembly again!

Get out the hook and pull him off stage.

1386. Lori in Los Angeles says:

  1403. Ennealogic says:

Red-bearded big guy. Digging at Temporary Mayor. Says ordinance is one size fits all, and says that it isn’t right yet. Makes reference to 1984… all animals are equal but some more equal than others, do police even investigate? Shotgun blast to kill a fly, no need to rush.

Poor guy, he doesn’t realize this issue has been worked with for at least a quarter of a century.

    He’s chastising Assembly.

  1404. Gramiam says:

Wonder what he’s smoking? This speaker is aging hippie who killed too many brain cells. Brought up rape! Sez that is more important

  1405. Nan says:

using military is “shameful” shame on you

1406. Lori in Los Angeles says:

jeremia says tony knowles is NOT here. says cost of ordinance not known. this is a one-size fits all ordinance and he does not think it will work. saying we are creating another special-protected class. more concerned with r a p e.
says this is a RUSH, why? I have seen this rush theme b4 – but this has been brought up for over 4 decades I believe.

  1407. CO almost native says:

Doesn’t Knowles have the chutzpah to speak for himself?

  1408. Nan says:

  1410. Physicsmom says:

This guy is speaking for Knowles and is against the ordinance? WTF?

  1411. califpat says:

Thanks Sharon for the vote. It seems that Alaska is number one in a lot of negative areas. Thanks for the concern and looking for ways to coming up with some resolutions to some very serious problems.

  1412. Nan says:

funny guy. talking diversity in businesses and bidness practice. “one size fits all” ordinance – 3 rewrites, ain’t gettin’ it together yet.

  1413. Nan says:

    a “mensch” (good human)

  1414. Gramiam says:

Political discrimination? Yeah, you betcha!! This lady is pro ordinance and is mentioning domestic violence, drinking, suicide and this is needed to raise the level of social discourse to solve these problems.

1415. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    yes, this is Representative Cissna.

  1416. Ennealogic says:

Sharon is speaking. Knows there is discrimination of many kinds, including political. Very strong supporter of ordinance with injunction against discrimination and fear. She’s sad that Alaska is #1 in so many bad things: drinking, violence, suicide, etc.

1417. Lori in Los Angeles says:

good on this lady for mentioning domestic violence and other crime, but why can’t we address that crisis at same time working on this issue.

  1418. Nan says:

which is Sharon Cissna? This lady?

  1419. zyggy says:

47 y/o is concerned about age discmination? I think she makes a good point for not discriminating “sexual Orientation”

  1420. Nan says:

speaks about the ever increasing sense of fear that’s abounding

  1421. califpat says:

Lady in the pink, nobody is asking for “special rights”, just human rights to be protected like yours.

  1422. Nan says:

strong supporter, even if it may need work on wording

1423. Lori in Los Angeles says:

tony knowes is there! he ran against GINO I believe (split the vote?)

  1424. akmuckraker says:

Sharon Cissna is a (D) Representative.

  1425. Nan says:

“Shouldn’t we all be worried about *all* of our rights?” (and this is justification for being against it? NUTS!)

  1426. Gramiam says:

Navy wife, 47 worried about more competition from gays in job market. God forbid she should lose a job opportunity to a gay person!!

  1427. Ennealogic says:

Nora Fuller, reddish shirt? Normally wouldn’t speak, feels her rights are now at risk. She was the one, due to husband in military, who had to go get jobs everytime they moved. She’s 47. She knows she can’t stack up against someone younger. If ordinance passes, she may have to go up against a younger person, a man, someone of a different race even, but also someone who is a gay. She’s afraid her rights will be diminished.

  1428. Nan says:

HER rights would be affected by this ordinance (HUH?)

oh, employer would try to avoid lawsuit and hire the “problematic person”

  1429. justafarmer says:

the young lady was very good

  1430. Nan says:

(loved the previous young woman – awesome points)

*This* one… “stability isn’t there for us” – employers cannot discriminate due to age – but she’d have to SHINE to get a job against someone 10 yrs younger

  1431. Nan says:

feels her thots are at risk. hubby in navy 22 yrs. she had to change jobs alla time

  1432. Ennealogic says:

Young lady saying she almost didn’t testify since rumor had it the red shirts would extend testimony until Dan Sullivan took office and could veto. Good point made — that those who have already testified prove discrimination exists, since their speaking endangered the jobs of many. She’s definitely for.

  1433. Nan says:

InJuneau – re Arctic Cat – I wonder if the IRS will say “sure, ok” sheesh

  1434. Gramiam says:

Very articulate young woman. Brought up the Dan Sullivan issue. “” The elephant in the living room” has been outed!!

  1435. CO almost native says:

Thanks for the explanation, BucFan. Maybe one too many Prevo’s Perverts member will “testify” and the Assembly will vote for because they are totally ticked off?

  1436. Nan says:

she’d heard the redshirts were trying to drag it out till sullivan took office… nearly gave up trying to testify then.

  1437. califpat says:

That lady is a keeper who brought facts and statistics that no one chooses their sexual orientation. Yeah! Fist Bumps!!!!!

  1438. Bucfan says:

OMG, she is a scientist, the brown shirts, I mean red shirts head are going to explode.

  1439. Gramiam says:

Homosexuality studies on nature versus nurture in twins. Genes significant, but environment plays a role too. Good presentation. Requested copy of info and got applause.

  1440. Bucfan says:

Eagle River is part of the Municipality of Anchorage which includes Anchorage, Girdwood, Eagle River and Chugiak. They all vote in our elections.

  1441. Ennealogic says:

New speaker, Chris, slender lady with silvering hair. Says both genes and environment causes ‘teh gay.’ Talking about identical twins and studies… identical twins were homosexual 66% of the time. Conclusion: genes play significant role in homosexuality. Discrimination against gays is same as racial discrimination. She urges for 64.

  1442. justafarmer says:

    quite correct, AKM!

  1443. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    facts. yes.

  1444. Nan says:

aha! discrimination against gay is same as racial, or any other. wishes discrim was a relic of our past

  1445. GreatGrey says:

Gotta go… back laterz. Document the atrocities.

  1446. Nebraska Native says:

How does he know he doesn’t already have a gay employee???

  1447. Nan says:

she needs to summarize, gonna run outa time.

  1448. Canadian Neighbour says:

I see other side than AKM — he didn’t just come into the room and spew away as to business losses.

  1449. GreatGrey says:

That dentist & his survey, …. that HAS to be some kind of ethical violation.

  1450. Nan says:

professor sez – is determined both by genes and by environment

  1451. califpat says:

Jason, your patients who said they would not return to your practice because you had a gay employee are lying. If their teeth/tooth were pounding with pain, they would not care what a person’s sexual preference was, they would be there to stop the pain.

  1452. Nan says:

wow. you all have a strange set of folks living there.

  1453. Canadian Neighbour says:

As much as he’s red side, depending on what the wording he used on the survey, which unfortunately we don’t know, I would give him credit for doing a survey so he has in effect education himself as to his business.

  1454. akmuckraker says:

Creepy dentist asking his patients via written survey what they would do with openly gay dental assistant. They said they’d never come back. What if he asked about a black employee and got that answer?

  1455. Nan says:

    1 response – doesn’t want a gay person’s fingers in my mouth

another: impinges on my own “rights”

difficult to say “wouldn’t return” however…

  1456. Ennealogic says:

Jason, dentist, Eagle River. Why is he testifying in Anchorage? Has gay relative he loves dearly. Had a gay dental assistant, and gay patients. He devised a survey to his patients .. one week long, one question, to heads of household: How would an openly gay employee affect your patronage? 1) No effect 2) I would not return 3) other …. 28 responses said would NOT return. 15 no effect, 13 “other”. “If Half of my patients would not visit me if I had gay employee, that would be financially devastating to me”

Ok sir, you live in a very backward place. I truly feel sorry for you.

  1457. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

this is just down right sad that people are so biased as this man’s patients are.

  1458. CO almost native says:

Thanks mucho, mudpups- my computer does not want to let me livestream–perhaps it is smarter than me 🙂

    “religion is inborn”? I don’t think so…what a mor-rone. aargh.

  1459. Bucfan says:

It says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. IF I dont’ want to hire or rent to a Christian I am not limiting their ability to practice their religion. And I am not the government in the first place. And this guy has a lot of homophobes as patients

  1460. Greytdog Δ says:

arrrggghhh. gotta go. my soul needs to go throw up after listening to these people

  1461. Nan says:

  1463. Nebraska Native says:

No wonder dentists have a high suicide rate…

  1464. Nan says:

he polled his patients??? the question: how would an openly gay employee affect your patronage

range from who cares to never return

  1465. Bucfan says:

It says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. IF I dont’ want to hire or rent to a Christian I am not limiting their ability to practice their religion. And I am not the government in the first place.

  1466. Nan says:

  1468. Nebraska Native says:

*** waving to AKM from Nebraska*** Hi to Gryphen and Shannyn!!!

  1469. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

i love this debate even though i don’t agree with the speaker.
i also imagine that most redshirts have no idea what was just said.

  1470. Ennealogic says:

Gutierrez is also challenging the green shirt. Green shirt only thinks law should apply to things beyond our control like sex or race. Coffey is questioning too… saying behavior or not is not relevant. Nice assembly members, Anchorage.

  1471. Nan says:

    oh… now we’re “parsing” (oy)

  1472. califpat says:

  1475. Bucfan says:

    How about removing religion?”

  1476. Nan says:

Selkregg (sp) is caalling him on it – sez if relig is inborn, then why is gay not also inborn (no gene for either)

  1477. austintx says:

TBNTJudy – Come back !! the wine helps to listen to the whine.

  1478. Nebraska Native says:

  1479. Gramiam says:

Selkregg ROCKS!!! She did a GOTCHA on brianiac.

1480. Lori in Los Angeles says:

ennealogic, YOU GO GIRL. I need to take a break, and you must fight the good fight as our journalist commentator – justafarmer, you also, too, you betcha.

  1481. Ennealogic says:

Selkregg seems on target. Kudos to whoever voted her in.

  1482. Nebraska Native says:

and his hair was sort of trendy…
    Who is this woman???

  1483. austintx says:

Well he sure does have his speech down……..

1484. Lori in Los Angeles says:

here is an opponent in a green shirt. we have anti-discrimination laws he says.
it is a right to judge people on basis of their actions he says. calls it “tyranical” – he says “religion is not a choice” either – me not buying that, but I give him a high grade for creativity (at least he is not bible thumping or obsessing on bathrooms)

  1485. Gramiam says:

    High-sounding BS is still BS!!

  1486. Ennealogic says:

BTW tonight gloves are off, my comments are not going to hold back. When people are dicks I’m gonna call em on it. I’ve heard way too much of this trash talk against gays. The people who are doing it do not deserve any benefit of any doubt.

Ray Sutton? opposes. We have laws already. We are judging people based on their actions here, and this is our right, since ‘teh gay’ is a behavior. He says religion is not a choice, it is inborn because people are in search of religion when they are born. Uh…

    Screw you, green shirt.

  1487. TBNTJudy says:

I bow to the great Mudpups! I cannot take this. I lasted this long listening to these people, and I feel as if I have been waterboarded. I am giving up, and I am going to find a bottle of wine. May the force be with you, Mudpups!

  1488. Gramiam says:

Claims homosexuality is an action, not an accident. #64 is “Tyrannical”.

  1489. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

this one has been a debater

  1490. Greytdog Δ says:

So are all the Antis going first? “sex and race” – does the bonehead mean gender? I choose the 10K race, howz about that?

  1491. Nan says:

wow, this one comes out saying he’s “implacable opponent” of ordinance

  1492. Nan says:

    justafarmer – exactly.

  1493. Greytdog Δ says:

Madam Chair is tough. I like that.

  1494. Gramiam says:

I like the chairwoman. She is very cool!! She is gonna keep control.

  1495. GreatGrey says:

More public fellatio photos please! LOL 🙂

  1496. califpat says:

Guy in suit quoting Romans. Want to know how many would still be alive if they were not gay. How many would still be alive Sir if there were not hate crimes because of discriminations?!!

  1497. austintx says:

OK…………fabric of morality……..kiss my ass buddy…….cram down my throat……..hear no more ?? no , asswipe

  1498. justafarmer says:

AKM, this guy is a complete eejit

1499. Lori in Los Angeles says:

LOL at enneologic and the fiber.

  1500. Bucfan says:

Shut up! Your time is up! DOn’t let him continue!

  1501. justafarmer says:

jeez, can any of these people speak from the heart? They all need notes and they can’t even read well…

1502. Lori in Los Angeles says:

here come Leviticus!! but he will also agree to cite the new testament, says homosexuals will not enter gates of Heaven. must follow instructions of bible.
breaking the threads of morality he says. he is in a suit, not a red shirt. will he be punished for not wearing what he is supposed to?

  1503. Greytdog Δ says:

Suffer ye not a witch to live . . . (leviticus). break out the stakes and kindling, children!

  1504. akmuckraker says:

Public schools are not fit for children? This guy is angry.

  1505. Ennealogic says:

Moral fiber. Does it keep ya from getting constipated? I don’t think so.

  1506. justafarmer says:

    ickkkkky ickkkkkkky….
    getting the Scotch…

  1507. Bucfan says:

This guy is making my head hurt!

  1508. Ennealogic says:

Anchorage white guy hassling the chairwoman about how many more people will be able to speak. You know, the red shirts’ message is redundant. This guy says homosexuality (quoting bible) is despicable and sinful etc. I mean, dude, we’ve heard this before!

  1509. Gramiam says:

Speaker griping that no more new names can be added. Claiming the Blue peeps are causing confrontation outside. Umpteen bible quotes…yadda, yadda, yadda!

  1510. Greytdog Δ says:

SLOW DOWN – first rule of speechifying. . . he’s progressing way too fast through his verbiage. Ohhhh he’s a nasty piece of work he is.

  1511. Bucfan says:

He is quoting Leviticus? How about selling your daughter into slavery?

  1512. Nan says:

public schools are no good for kids anymore – leviticus, etc

  1513. justafarmer says:

He was heartfelt, even tho I didn’t agree with him. Wasn’t gonna say a thing about him or his testimony other than “thank you for you service,” and I really do mean that.

1514. Lori in Los Angeles says:

wow AKM re those photos – were they sticky when he handed them to the assembly?
there is at least 3 more days of testimony
tonite, she will not make the list longer – gee, ya think?

  1515. Greytdog Δ says:

Not talking about his speech problem – talking about his soul problem

  1516. Nan says:

oh, bless his heart – red shirt, feels we all have thesee rights, and he’d fight and die for each of us to have ’em. Against (heartfelt, not hateful)

  1517. Greytdog Δ says:

    Well ain’t Roland speshal?

  1518. justafarmer says:

I’m not gonna say anything about this VietNam vet with a speech prob.

  1519. Greytdog Δ says:

quoting Dalai Lhama to a bunch of Fundamentalists just makes the Fundies sure that paganism is all around us (run here come da witches); I like this guy tho. He makes sense.

1520. Lori in Los Angeles says:

up next, Roland from the Baptist Church – he is a Veteran of Korea and Nam- his son is back from ar now and wounded. He is an American Indian and says HE is still fighting for equal rights, but this is not about equal rights, it is about special rights.

  1521. Gramiam says:

New guy is a big 5 in my book! a Lutheran Bhuddist. And got called back to finish his statement.

  1522. akmuckraker says:

Wow. The fast talker gave the assembly members envelopes with photos of “public fellatio”. He may top Donkey Guy from last night.

  1523. seattlefan says:

My stream keeps rebuffering so I give up. Are these people from Anchorage or the bussed in people? Why are they letting people who don’t live in Anchorage testify?

Thanks in advance for the liveblog! Sure wish I could see/hear it.

  1524. justafarmer says:

oooh, he gets to stay for a question!

  1525. GreatGrey says:

You guys hold down the fort tonight, I’ve got meetings till 8:30 pm ANC time, will check in later.

Got the DVR going so if any good speakers we’ll have video for later.

  1526. Nan says:

can’t expect to change the world instantly … ran out of time, they ASK him to finish the 3 sentences!

  1527. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    love buddist guy

  1528. GottaLaff says:

Please, please indulge me. I’m sorry this doesn’t fit the thread, but you need to read. Please. You’ll understand once you see it:

Follow ups tomorrow and the next day. Too important to ignore. I’ve contacted the media, other blogs, too.

    Thank you for understanding.

  1529. InJuneau says:

Nan–go check my link at the Open Thread…

  1530. justafarmer says:

I like this guy a lot!

  1531. Bucfan says:

He is a guy who was in the navy, in nursing school but is against the ordinance? I could be crass but I won’t. I do wonder that when he becomes a nurse will he refuse to minister to gay people because it is against his moral beliefs?

1532. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Here is a Lutheran Buddist in support of ordinance. His son suffered discrimination – denied a seat in classes at college, when seats were empty.
he is citing the Dali Lama re happiness and peace in society – compassion is a necessity, not a luxury. Kindness. ahhh, YES

  1533. Ennealogic says:

Quentin Hodges, army vet, Lutheran Buddhist. HUH? Seems for ordinance. Refers to Dalai Lama, his son who was discriminated against in “the guard.”

  1534. Nan says:

compassion is necessity, not a luxury. I’m responsible for MY life, we are all responsible for “all” our lives

  1535. Greytdog Δ says:

Sexuality as weapon + Fundamentalist Christian mindset = Passion of the Christ (knew mel gibson would matter some day)

  1536. Nan says:

this guy is cool – “Lutheran Buddhist” for ordinence talking Dalai Lama

  1537. califpat says:

Hey guy in the hat. You use your Christianity as a weapon to try keep people from having their human rights!

  1538. Greytdog Δ says:

Ever notice how the arguments are all the same – do these people have sexual obsession or what?

  1539. justafarmer says:

    sexuality is a weapon?????

  1540. Greytdog Δ says:

Game being played:delay delay until there are no more gays . . .think it’s the new Fundamentalist credo. . . little god for little minds & souls

  1541. Ennealogic says:

    Got it!

Person talking about public flogging, fellatio, etc pictures taken in SF. Speaker is obviously disgusted since the only people who would benefit are these pathetic persons. Gah.
    One against.

  1542. justafarmer says:

    ok, had a computer no-post zone for a while. Hope I’m back…
And yes, califpat, Travis never made his point (but I couldn’t figure out the serial murders & dictator angle at the end).

  1543. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    do.not.like.that.last.person.

  1544. Nan says:

police not stopping public display (of indecent exposure, for one)… supposedly

passing ordinance means the cops hands would be tied for indecent exposure of all sorts, etc (calls it idiotic law)

    dang, sounds ANGRY

1545. Lori in Los Angeles says:

this one has scientific studies “proving” that employers do NOT discriminate-also has documents “proving” this law would be unconstitutional. it will be legally challened and cost taxpayers tons of money. If the homosexuals blend in and do not flaunt their lifestyle, there is not a problem with discrimination cites CA law and the repercussions of a similar law. lots of scare tactics.

  1546. Gramiam says:

Ooooo!! He claims to have dirty pictures!!

  1547. akbuckie says:

my stream STINKS!!! it keeps rebuffering.

  1548. austintx says:

I say if you can’t produce a D.L. or Voters Registration showing you live in Anchorage , tuff s^*tsky. Move along , here is the e-mail for ADN , see ya !! I mean , REALLY !!

Gonna be in and out cookin’ on the grill…..get ’em guys.

  1549. Gramiam says:

Now this guy is a stereoytype!!

  1550. Shadow's Heart says:

Very powerful song written about South Africa and the Apartheid but speaks volumes about all social injustices faced by many groups who’s only crime is being different. Go Mudpups.

Labi Siffre – Something Inside So Strong

The higher you build your barriers
    The taller I become
The farther you take my rights away
    The faster I will run
    You can deny me
You can decide to turn your face away
    No matter, cos there’s….

    Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho’ you’re doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

The more you refuse to hear my voice
    The louder I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho
    Your lies will come tumbling
    Deny my place in time
    You squander wealth that’s mine
My light will shine so brightly
    It will blind you
    Cos there’s……

    Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho’ you’re doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

    Brothers and sisters
When they insist we’re just not good enough
    When we know better
Just look ’em in the eyes and say
    I’m gonna do it anyway
    I’m gonna do it anyway

    Something inside so strong
And I know that I can make it
Tho’ you’re doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

    Brothers and sisters
When they insist we’re just good not enough
    When we know better
Just look ’em in the eyes and say
    I’m gonna do it anyway
    I’m gonna do it anyway
    I’m gonna do it anyway
    I’m gonna do it anyway

Because there’s something inside so strong
And I know that I can make it
Tho’ you’re doing me, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

  1551. califpat says:

Travis never quite made his point.

  1552. Nan says:

    providing documentation on ??

legal precedents prove this is unconstitutional (talks FAST)

1553. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he is comparing this to murder, lying, adultry – dunno why.

  1554. Gramiam says:

“My way or the Highway” Yadda, yadda, yadda!!

  1555. Nan says:

Ennealogic, you might be the lucky one… 🙁

1556. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Travis, a Navy Vet up first. He is a nursing student. says this is NOT about sexual orientation. says we already possess equal rights and this will infringe on the rights of people who do NOT practice a homosexual lifestyle.
I am confused – he thinks people will be forced to become Gay?
No comes God and religious. Hate the sin, blah blah – he is against ordinance.

  1557. Nan says:

if passed it’ll infringe on the right of folks *not* to “live a homosexual lifestyle” (oy)

  1558. Ennealogic says:

I have no picture, no sound. 🙁 I haz sad.

  1559. justafarmer says:

    no more bathroom stories!

  1560. justafarmer says:

oooh, good comment about repetitive testimonies…

  1561. Bones AK says:

I got a picture but no sound

  1562. akmuckraker says:

550 names on list. Not taking new names. No vote tonight.

1563. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she does not know the rules re all these people being allowed to testify thus the attorneys bing consulted. If she does not limit this, it will never end IMO.

  1564. justafarmer says:

    take THAT smackdown Prevo…

  1565. justafarmer says:

    plow through the list…..

1566. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she is addressing the issue of who should be allowed to testify. they now have 550 names on the list. the assembly needs to get through the list she says. NO more names will be taken after these 550. Then they will decide whether they can limit prsonal testimony, she is consulting with attorneys on this issue.

  1567. Nan says:

    550 on the list! Omigawd.

  1568. justafarmer says:

lots of empty chairs for assembly members
oooh…she asks for speakers to say where they live.

  1569. Nan says:

    InJuneau
    There’s a twist?

  1570. justafarmer says:

    here we go!!!!!

1571. Lori in Los Angeles says:

GOT IT, all is working, we are rolling.

1572. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Is no one else extremely concerned that the # of people signed up to testify has increased (to over 500 I believe)? And the churches are busing in red shirts from all over AK AND from the lower 48? This to stall until Sullian takes office so he can veto outcome? Will they put their foot down and disallow all of these parties (who do not live in Anchorage or even in alaska)?

  1573. Ennealogic says:

Clocks must be off… my messages here are showing up as being 10 minutes earlier than they are by my clock: 8:21 PM here….

  1574. InJuneau says:

AKM–if you can, check your e-mails for news about the latest twist in the ArcticCat issue…

1575. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I see the opening screen that says the webcast is happening, and the timer is progressing – but nothing else showing on my screen as yet.

  1576. akmuckraker says:

    Nothing happening yet.

  1577. Nebraska Native says:

I willl try again InJuneau… thanks!

  1578. InJuneau says:

Ooo, I just checked the link, and it is all weird. I’ll bet that just means they haven’t started streaming yet. Hang in there, ‘pups!

  1579. akmuckraker says:

Equality Works issues press release saying opponents want to “maintain the right to treat us like second class citizens.”

  1580. justafarmer says:

I see the same thing, Ennealogic

  1581. InJuneau says:

Nebraska Native–I got that message last night, but it still streamed for me…

  1582. Ennealogic says:

I don’t think they are broadcasting yet. I’m connected but all I see is the static announce frame, although it does say June 17, 2009 on it.

  1583. Nebraska Native says:

    (go puppies 🙂 )

  1584. Nebraska Native says:

It says there are too many users already… is someone able to live blog for us?

  1585. justafarmer says:

I haz a sad…no audio or video, just a static graphic and the little time counter going in the lower right corner…

  1586. Ennealogic says:

Anyone getting anything from the Anchorage Assembly yet?

  1587. Closet Mudpup says:

A note to Firefox users — You can keep the video stream and the comments visible in the same window at the same time. (I’m not familiar enough with IE any more to know if you have a similar option or not.)

(If you already have a bookmark for the video stream, AND have granted script permission to granicus.com in NoScript, you can start at step 4.)

    1) Click AKM’s link to the video stream and load the page in a tab.
    2) If you’re using NoScript (and shame on you if you’re not!), grant script permission to Granicus.com (Temporary or Permanent – either will work)
    3) Bookmark that page.
    4) Right click on the bookmark, and select Properties. In the lower left of the Properties window, check “Load this bookmark in the sidebar”, then OK to Exit
    5) Left click the bookmark (as you would normally do to open one), and the video stream should load in the sidebar, leaving the rest of your screen to display TheMudflats in a normal tab. I’ve tested this with AllInOneSidebar and with the native Firefox sidebar – no problems either way.

  1588. Ennealogic says:

I hear ya loud and clear AKM. No video or sound yet from the assembly meeting but there is an image… are they broadcasting tonight?

  1589. justafarmer says:

hahahaa!!! I’m stunned that I’m conscious at all…

  1590. akmuckraker says:

    Testing

  1591. InJuneau says:

Ennealogic–The live feed prob. won’t go live till they actually start the meeting.

justafarmer–I’d send you a bottle of scotch through the ‘tubes if I could; sounds like you’ll be needing it tonight…

  1592. Ennealogic says:

Still not getting any feed from the live video yet… is the link the right one for tonight?

  1593. justafarmer says:

up and running here, but we’re dealing with a honeybee swarm AND a pack of coyotes….
jeez…after last night’s tornadoes I was hoping for a quieter evening on the farm.

  1594. austintx says:

    Ennealogic – True That !!

  1595. Ennealogic says:

I’ll be listening, even though my housemates wonder why I care.

I care because intolerance anywhere hurts us all. I care because the “religious” have gotten a false idea that their way, their beliefs, are somehow worthy of foisting upon us all. I care because any inhumanity diminishes me, too.

I’ll be there listening, and doing my best to lend support to all those in favor of 64.

  1596. Scott Palin says:

    Good luck on it passing!!!
