Open Thread – Buf and the Cardboard City
Well, it’s been quite a day. For those of you following the saga of me retiring from my day job, the process is complete… as complete as it can be when my house looks like a giant warehouse. Buf the dog is quite perturbed by the giant cardboard city that sprang up in her little corner of the living room. I have no idea how long it will take to deal with all of it, but for tonight, here it sits.
At one point during the closing of the office, Spouse said, “Well, I’m disconnecting the internet.” My eyes flew open, and Spouse could tell that I didn’t like that idea at all. And I thought maybe I was being a little silly to think that something earth-shattering would happen in the next couple hours. How wrong I was.
Since I am not only living in the cardboard city, but also feel quite a bit like I’ve been hit by a bus, Shannyn Moore will be posting shortly about the latest Joe Miller fiasco in which his hired goons put a reporter under arrest and handcuffed him until the police came and unarrested him. Ah, yes… this is the vision of the future for Joe Miller, where those pesky journalists get what’s coming to ’em. They’d be so much more tolerable if they wouldn’t keep asking those darn questions…
So, stay tuned for Shannyn. She’ll have some interesting new information on the incident, so don’t miss it. Me? Now that I’ve spilled an entire cup of tea all over my desk, I’m going to go have a long and serious discussion with my pillow.
Buf you’re one of my adopted dogs. I can’t have a dog where I am now, and see no prospects for that to change any time soon. I have a few in the neighborhood and a couple of niece and nephew dogs that visit on occasion, and there’s you.
can any pup help me find last night’s speeches by Barack and Michelle Obama?
i was late getting on the flats last night and when i did i couldn’t hear the president.
now i can’t seem to find the video anywhere….Blast!!!
Buf looks quite comfy and warm, sweet baby. Happy dishevelment to you both!
What a lovely city of cardboard for Buf to explore!
Awwww, Buf…what a sweet girl she is!!! 🙂
Oh, Buf! You lucky dog! My dog would be in heaven with all that cardboard. He is the official box shredder around here; any and all boxes that come within his reach will be shredded on the spot- whether we like it or not. 🙂
LOL – I have gerbils for the junk mail! Then the whole lot goes in the compost. Life is good.
OMG…I feel for you if the cardboard boxes are full of stuff that you need to dispose of. Maybe you should have a sale on the ‘flats….we could get some Christmas shopping done, and Buf would look happy again.
I bet AKM’s pile of boxes connects with my pile of boxes.
I’m at move plus 16 months and small dog still reacts to a cardbox movement. He tolerates stationary box but BARKS if I pick up box. And this is a dog that’s undergo 4 previous moves. Age lessens acceptance of change in us all, I guess.
Hugs to Buf.
Looks like a life in progress….Keep up the good work.

ok, this bunch are running ads now quoting ex-gov Sheffield saying a vote for McAdams is a vote for Joe Miller…
pretty angry at my regional corp now… pretty dang mad…
aww dear Buf. don’t worry mama is gonna deal with them there boxes…somehow. someday.
Buf looks like she has the cardboard city under her watchful eye…
Rest up AKM.
Good morning, AKM. I would imagine you are feeling as if you’ve been run over by a herd of caribou [had to backspace to get rid of elephants, (and then had to stop and mentally thank Dana for writing that caribou are herd animals), and insert caribou to make it more also, too Alaskaish].
I have high hopes that Buf will stop with the confusion and move on to phase two – the stink eye directed at the human who has discombobulated their world. Always good for a smile or two.
R&R is a good thing. I should try it, and so should you. If you want, you are welcome to come here and organize the garage. Part of it looks just like that picture, but with no Buf. We have lived in this house four years and now have high hopes of perhaps having the fairies take those boxes away, but no luck yet. Peace and thanks.
The secret to getting rid of boxes that have been around a while is to not plan on doing it all at once, but to do it one box a day! Plan it out–thrift store, put away, and throw away trash bags all waiting. Hit the thrift store once a week with your goodies. If you do just one box a day, imagine where you’ll be in one month!
Oh, and if you hit nostalgia stuff, just take it in the house to go through that night instead of watching TV.
I have lots of empty cardboard to recycle today – maybe my fairies can help with yours, too!
Here is a poignant story that even has a small Alaska connection.

I already miss the museum store. It was a real pleasure to visit, and you gave my kids many great (non-electronic) Christmas presents. My son’s first Swiss army knife came from your store. We had mobiles, ceiling stickers, and goofy animal toys from your store. We will really miss what you brought to us. Thank you.
Buf may not be happy, but at least she can still sit on her pillow. And she looks quite comfy, despite the disruption.
Best wishes to you on wherever this next adventure takes you, AKM.
And I am really curious how Joe Miller is getting away with his latest tactics of having hired thugs arresting people. He’s quite a piece of work.
It’s already on ADN. I don’t mean to steal Shannyn’s thunder. I’m sure she’ll be more entertaining than ADN anyway.

The post is up on Mudflats now.
Goodness, all this time I thought Buf was a ‘boy’. So sweet, I just love that puppy.
I hope you, AKM and Spouse, can get some deep hard sleep tonight, you’ve earned it!!! Then wake up tomorrow laughing from all the Alaskan political snowfall.
The Joe Miller fiasco has gone viral, saw it at Huff Post and many posts at Democratic UG – and it’s spreading faster than a wildfire. I sorely hope this is the end to Jo(k)e’s campaign and people won’t have to vote for Leasa to escape him!!!
Vote Scott for an upfront honest Senator you can talk to!
Holy smokes! Now I have to wait for Shannyn. What the heck happened? Who was the reporter? Inquiring minds want to know.
