I live in President O’s Chicago neighborhood, and voted Dem in the senatorial and gubernatorial races. I received TWO DNCC robocalls from the President. UPDATE: Just got another one, in which he says, “I know you voted before, and I want you to vote again today.” For the town of “vote early and often,” that was not the best choice of words
I would have seriously considered the Republican senatorial candidate, who has, or had, a reputation as a moderate conservative, if the Republican Party hadn’t shown itself unwilling or incapable of doing anything constructive. I did vote for the Republican candidate running against Jesse Jackson Jr., knowing that he has no chance of winning, in the hope that if a few others do likewise it will be a hint to JJ Jr. that he doesn’t have lifetime tenure.
Although I’m an outsider, I have a stake in the Alaska Senate race, because Obama needs a Congress that will give him a chance, we don’t need Miller, another right-winger of bad morals and poor judgment, and Sarah Palin is a source of national political pollution that needs to be capped before 2012.
I like McAdams. He does seem inexperienced and unpolished, but better someone who needs to learn a few things than someone who has learned the wrong ones. Put it this way — if I offered you three apples, one was green, one was spoiled, and one was rotten, which would you pick? I really believe he will win.
Today, I was having lunch with three colleagues. One is a close friend but as far from me politically as is humanly possible. She is an extremely religious and conservative Christian and truly lives her faith rather than just talking about it. I, on the other hand, am becoming more liberal in my politics with each election and haven’t followed any organized religion since middle school. We tease each other every year that our votes cancel each other out and we NEVER discuss politics beyond that joke.
Today, when the subject of politics came up at lunch, my friend said that she had already voted and she supported the party that “reflected her values”. As a conservative in NY, that meant she voted for Carl Paladino.
For those of you who have not been following NY politics, Paladino is a world class nutjob. He has a serious anger problem, pledges to not work with anyone in the NY legislature, has admitted to sending racist and pornographic emails to hundreds of people, has a record of demeaning comments and actions towards women including calling US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand “Schumer’s little girl”, and has a ten-year old daughter with a former employee he cheated on his wife of 40 years with.
He wants to decimate NYS government services for everyone, particularly the most needy and vulnerable, despite the fact that most of his fortune had come from state tax breaks and rents/fees paid to him by various parts of the NYS government. He is a nasty, homophobic, volative, classless, confrontational man who has not shown an ounce of compassion for anyone during this campaign.
He is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest.
I don’t understand how someone as deeply religious and caring as my friend can support such a heinous man ONLY because he is against abortion, when EVERY other aspect of his personality goes against everything her faith teaches her. HOW can she honestly say that he ‘reflects her values’????
leenie: You are trying to use reason to understand the unreasonable. It doesn’t work. The word “values” has been corrupted completely. If she just said “I am voting for him because he is anti-abortion and that is the only thing that matters to me” it would have been more to the point, more honest and you would have been able to understand her statement (hopefully, though, not able to agree with her point). Paladino is twisted, as is Tancredo in Colorado. Unfortunately, if you vote with your “faith” (which has nothing to do with reason) instead of with your brain, you will never think beyond the limited reptilian brain.
————————
When are they going to do an article about her fixation on men’s private parts? Saying that the president doesn’t have testicles, telling all sorts of people to “man up”, as though she’s used to complaining in that vein in her daily life.
And, she calls Politico reporters homophobes, child molesting, tax evading puppy kicking chair smoking p orn producers…..such a classy woman with an “Alaskan heart”. That was day before yesterday that she said they were corrupt bastards, but that she was “going to ignore it all”. lol
To go along with your excellent post and links, take a look at the picture of this evil wench over at Gryphen’s…it is the way I see her now most of the time; her ugly rhetoric catching up with her on the outside as it reflects what is truly on the inside.
Her choice of words doesn’t sound Christian to me! While my church doesn’t prohibit swearing, anyone, men included, that was heard in or out of church using such language and intonation would certainly get a “what the heck?” look from other members.
But I guess her Christians don’t care about “don’t swear at all.”
I just voted for what I hope will be our first female governor and spunky Everglades panther Alex Sink.
And yes Baker’s, it’s ovals for us, and into the scanning machine.
Didn’t seem to be much turnout, or I live in the teeniest tiniest voting district ever. I think there were only four booths plus what looked like a special one for people maybe needing special help.
I will not feel settled until returns start coming in showing Sink with a good lead over “our” Scott – Rick Scott. I feel like Rick Scott is Savonarola, saying to Florence, “So, if you’ve had enough of the Medici, vote for me!”. This is one day I’m happy I live on the East Coast so we get our results sooner!
However, I may just have to stay up extra late, to follow the Alaska returns.
And me, out of popcorn. May have to go to the store …
I went and voted, and nobody’s posted since my last post! And it was a long ballot. I wrote in Sarah Palin for all my California elected positions! Oh, wait, that was my nightmare last night! (not really)
I don’t know if it’s the same in all California counties, but here, our ballots are still hand marked–fill in the oval with the black pen they give you. Extraneous marks make it invalid, so get a new ballot. Instructions for write ins are at the top of the ballot (write the name on the line, fill in the oval.) My dad’s a poll worker. If someone wants help with a write in, their instructions are to read those instructions! End of story.
I now am wearing proudly my jewelry for the day–my “I voted” sticker.
If youth friendly businesses offered a free drink or whatever to people who came in with “I voted” stickers, that would certainly turn up the flame for the dems!
This just p*sses me off. What also upsets me is that I haven’t read any strong reactions from the Tea Party brigade about this. I bet if a federal worker gets killed by this/these shooters, they’ll celebrate. Lots of invective thrown about when it’s “those” people (Muslims outside of the US; Americans who are Muslim), but not when it’s someone they identify as being one of their own (McVeigh).
Report: Shots fired at Va. Coast Guard office
10:00 a.m.
Shots have been fired into a Coast Guard recruiting office in Woodbridge, according to Fox 5.
It’s unclear when the shots were fired, but officials are said to be at the scene.
Shots have been fired at three U.S. military sites in Northern Virginia in recent weeks. The spree of shootings began the night of Oct. 16 or into the next morning when bullets were fired at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle. In the following days, ballistics evidence has shown, the same weapon was used to shoot at the Pentagon and an unoccupied Marine Corps recruiting center in Chantilly. In each case, windows were struck.
The museum again was targeted overnight Thursday. The most recent incident had not been conclusively linked to the other three by forensic evidence, but authorities think it is the work of the same person or people.
Officials said they believe the shooter may be a Marine or someone with a grievance against the U.S. Marine Corps.
When are they going to learn that they must bow down before her or suffer her wrath–always remember that she (with her vile rhetoric and vindictiveness) is on a mission from God.
My polling place here in Oakland, CA was unusually busy this morning. I hope it is a good sign! At least we seem to be defeating 140-Million-Meg. The big money seemed to turn off the voters around here: hope the same goes for Alaska. Good luck to Scott McAdams!
Morning all. I have a good feeling about today. Apparently there are a lot of young people out voting. I’ll be flying back to Ireland tonight and will be waiting with bated breath to hear the results.
I’m going with bubbles when she votes later, so I’ll be able to sample some of the atmosphere.
As I always do on Election Day, I’ll cast my vote as soon as I go out (my polling place is less than five minutes’ walk from home).
We vote on term limits again. This time, we vote that the City Council canNOT overturn the will of the voters (which gave Nanny Bloomberg his illegal third term). Paladino is toast (with a shmear of crazy), and Schumer and Gillibrand will continue to represent us in the Senate. In my district, credit card user hero Carolyn Maloney will keep her well-deserved seat.
Excellent article. The thing they all keep missing, though, is the corrupt bastards reference. I don’t think they are making the same connection to that phrase that Alaskans or those of us who hang out here at the Mudflats would.
Good morning on election day, all!
DH Happy and I voted early and LittleBird voted absentee from college, so our votes are in for Alex SAink, Kendrick Meek, Loranne Ausley, Dan Gelber, and Scott Maddox. We voted FOR amendments 5 & 6, and AGAINST amendment 8 here in the Sunshine State.
I’ll be watching returns from Orlando this evening…7+ hours on the road again…this week to the state school librarians’ (media specialists’ ) convention. 🙂 Taking teh laptop, so I’ll keep in touch.
Still catching up and enjoying all the reports from the Sanity Rally. Many thanks to all who participated and shared! I’m not AFRAID, but can I claim SANE? “Compared to what?” as my dear old daddy would ask. Hey, I may be crazy, but I’m not Stupid! *wink*
Good to know that there are others in this state who voted “Meekly” and did all they could to assure there will not be a “sunken Sink” etc.
No, st this time I do not think we can win much in Florida. Mr. Grayson will probably not return to Congress, no matter how much we may support him, but hopefully, between all of us and our friends, there will be enough sanity to go around to let the crazies know that we have not all laid down and died… this fight is not over… but we have to keep vigilant.
Hubby and I got in late yesterday after having a wonderful time in DC – we stayed around to explore further. We can never thank the Fawnskins for giving all of us a wonderful time, the scarves, food, transportation, etc., etc. You are true GEMS! It was such a pleasure to finally meet so many of you and I just wish there had been more time to sit and chat, so we’ll just have to continue our chatting here on the ‘flats until we have another Mudstock. The icing on the cake was that our own AKM was there!
My dogs have not given me a minute’s peace since we got back and as soon as the Cockatiels heard my voice, they started shrieking for attention. The best part of all was seeing our great grandson Cayden – doesn’t seem possible that a little one can grow and develop so much in just a week’s time, but at a year old, that is what they do. I’m going to indulge myself with pampering pets and baby today and deal with the accumulated laundry and unpacking tomorrow.
Anyone living in the DC area who regularly uses the Metro is welcome to our SmartTrip cards that we purchased in advance. There are no refunds given and we want to pass the cards along to anyone who can use them. We DO NOT want anything for them. Just PM me with your name and address and I’ll send them off your way. First one to respond gets them.
The church across the road from us is our voting place. Normally, it is quite slow until afternoon when people start getting off work. The parking lot was nearly full at 6AM and the traffic is a steady stream. I won’t say if that is good or bad until the results are in this evening. Yes, it is good that people are coming out and doing their civic duty, but it isn’t good if they are coming out of the woodwork to vote for Rand Paul!
Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for Geoff Dunn’s new book, “The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power”. The pre-order price is $17.15, a savings of almost $9. It is looking better and better for Scott McAdams and I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed that he gets elected. The Republicans on the morning talk shows are positive that Joe Miller will get it and I pray they are wrong.
I remember too. But I also remember Reagan’s election and Clinton’s. Both men were elected to the Presidency when the economy was struggling under the leadership of their predecessor. If we’re not diligent, the same could happen in 2012…and if Palin wins the nomination…:

I can’t vote for Scott McAdams but I did wear my favorite Alaska moose socks in honor of him today (don’t have any killer whale socks!)! 🙂
I just don’t understand.

Ahhhhh the bikini graph. This information is crucial.
This is column in somewhat back-handed praise of Palin which should earn the author a severe rebuke from the Twitter Twit.

The more people that see the hostile vindictive nature of the true Palin, the fewer people will rise to her defense.
A corollary.
