Open Thread – Counting the Hours

Aren’t you excited? It’s Counting Day for the absentee ballots!

The Millerbots are apparently on watch, burning the midnight oil, counting down the hours and ready to tackle the hinkiness head on, with the help of the RNSC.

The Murkowskibots on Twitter have been mostly silent. Murkowski herself is in DC trying to raise money to contest the contesting of the ballots. And although she has not claimed victory, her website has. “Help Us Protect Lisa’s Historic Victory!” the headline proclaims. Weren’t these the people who were all over Joe Miller for picking out the office furniture prematurely? Just saying.

I’m taking a break from politics. I need humor, AND I need to kick something. This fit the bill! The author did the kicking for me, but only in self defense mind you. It’s not political but it is funny. Be sure to watch the reenactments.

I only hope Joe Miller does not get sent to the Senate!!
Is palin a housewife? Don’t you actually have to be “home” to be considered a house wife? Deal with ring around the collar(not have others wash your undies?), go food shopping(instead of Taco Bell and starbucks?) clean the house(instead of trying to send that crazy witch to the senate?).
I don’t know, she is bringing cookies to the kids at school to show them how mean the big bad government is by trying to make them eat nutritious foods.
But I doubt she will bake them herself.

THE HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA LIVES! Michigan assistant attorney general Andrew Shirvell has now been fired by Republican state Attorney General Mike Cox (the guy who previously defended this as an important First-Amendment right) for “harrassing” a college kid because he was in the student government and gay. Sorry, he was in the student government AND A GAY NAZI.

Thanks for the reminder of what Miller Twittered on a D.C. trip recently. I hope he did purchase the furnature, drapes, and name plate. Wasn’t he also thinking about going house shopping. What a turn around and major disappointment this must be for the man who thought he was going to win. I’ve got no pitty for the man, and laugh now that you reminded me of what he Twittered earlier.

    • Dagian says:

He can’t afford any houses in the area. With his lousy credit rating, I doubt he could find anyone willing to rent him an efficiency apartment.

When I first moved to Rochester and began commuting past the downtown skyline, I was startled to see the Time Square building. On the top is a giant sculpture called the “Wings of Progress”. I never could understand why more people didn’t see what I saw in that building…and it definitely was NOT ‘wings’!

And Sully weighs in. God, I love that man.

“Again, compare the 0.6 percent price increase in the first nine months of 2010 with September 2008 when grocery prices were rising at 6 percent. This is reality. Palin cannot handle it when it contradicts her. And notice, you could still make the point that you oppose quantiative easing because it could lead to future inflation, while conceding the fact that food prices have been very weak recently. But Palin simply cannot acknowledge error. If reality contradicts her imagined version of it, reality has to concede.

This is the core truth about Palin: she is a delusional fantasist. She makes anything and everything up. So about that motor home trip …”

Current housewive ???? OMG she cracks me up today

      • AKMuckraker says:

OK, when you say “Sully” my first thought is Mayor Sullivan. So perhaps “good Sully” or “not the worm Sully” or some such thing. Because when it’s followed with “God, I love that man” it makes my entire body get the dry heaves!

  10. A Fan From Chicago says:

I wonder if Joe the Bummer feels like a complete boob for those tweets about getting new drapes and furniture and a name plate. Probably not but I’d like to think so. Hope Alaska has seen the last of that loser.

    • Dagian says:

I want to know how he’s going to pay back his campaign all that money he borrowed from it.

He lost. He’s in hock beyond his eyebrows. He bet on winning to repay himself/campaign. Can he do it–legally? Or will Joe Miller find himself on welfare for real–and will that be welfare without the three hots and a cot, or not?

I’m channeling Dr. Seuss tonight, evidently.

  11. TX SMR says:

I have just started reading my first issue of Miller-McCune magazine. It is great, better than great. Here’s their website:

    http://www.miller-mccune.com/

My news tolerance is pretty low these days — I am not up to the the drama that accompanies each & every story. Can I just get some facts and draw my own conclusions? I used to be a NPR addict, it was the only radio that I listened to. I loved all of their shows. Now it seems like even their news is slanted one way or the other. I just want facts! Can I please get some facts?

Which is where miller-mccune steps in — I think it would be great if fellow thinkers here at Mudflats checked it out. Ethical responsible reporting should be rewarded.

Here’s a funny for you all. Yesterday I was reading my Sunday edition of the Houston Chronicle (the only day that I get, and sometimes it takes a day or two for me to get to it, because I certainly don’t read it to keep abreast of real news!), and they had a long piece about a fella who had recently won the seat of commissioner. It said “…considers himself politically informed… his wife has a poli-sci degree and they often discuss the information that they get from newspapers and Fox News…” WHATTTTTTTTT?????? That’s being informed? The news you get from the local (Texan) newspapers and Fox News? As I said to my mother-in-law (visiting us), isn’t it an oxymoron to say that you are politically informed via the news that you get from local newspapers and Fox?

Check out Miller-McCune mudfriends, they deserve kudos & subscriptions if they can keep reporting in such an outstanding manner (I’ll also throw in a plug for another magazine I get, Washington Monthly, and a tepid one for The Atlantic, another that I subscribe to, they have some great stuff, but also some stuff that makes me want to vomit).

    • Zyxomma says:

Thanks for posting the link; I was unaware of Miller McCune. Interesting reading.

ooooo…Counting Day! Another holiday to mark on my calendar! Does it involve presents? Perhaps Tossing Miller the Troll out onto the ‘Flats? Far, far away–

  13. fishingmamma says:

Criminy. Sanity would be nice right now.

    • fishingmamma says:

Sorry for the caps….. but I really have to….SANITY ON BOTH SIDES INCLUDING OURS.

We have to live with and support who was rightfully elected. That is what we want from the T-partyers because we have a POTUS that they do not like.

Should we expect less from ourselves?

Sour Grapes are not good food. I do not care who you are.

      • Alaska Pi says:

I’m shifting around trying to figure out where to stand.
Whoever the count reveals as the rightful winner I fully understand I have to live with it.
I am accepting that Ms Murkowski is the likely winner but understand that until the absentee votes and write-ins are tabulated we don’t really know.
All that being said , any support I have for either runs from egads! to very, very wary.

      • Bretta says:

Sour grapes make good whine, though 🙂

  14. LA Brian says:

Are there Counting Day cards? Is it socially acceptable to post them on/after the actual day as long as they’re received before the results are announced? If that’s the case then I’m good.

  15. Elstun W. Lauesen says:

Count me with the ‘Millerbots’ on this one! Watch every damn thing. I wouldn’t trust the State DOE or the Murkowski camp as far as I can–oh, I don’t know, projectile vomit them? I will send you a copy of an email that I sent Miller’s folks wishing them well.

  16. Bev says:

I know you did not want another Refug in Alaska, but better Lisa then Joltin’ Joe.

This election looks like two slaps in Palin’s face…one because Lisa might win and two because Joe won’t.

    • gm says:

No, Lisa is not better than Joe. Both of them would vote against what I believe in. Joe (with his penchant for idiot behavior) would quickly flame out. Lisa (because she seems reasonable) will continue her work for corporate interests, just like other repubs in D.C.

  17. GoI3ig says:

This thing should be done on gavel to gavel so regular folks can see what is allowed, and what is disallowed. Inquiring minds want to know.

    • Motorhead says:

Yeah, and we need more of those goofy closeup photos, like the ones of the guy with the magnifying glass intensely studying the elusive “hanging chads” and “dimpled chads” during the infamous Florida recount days leading up to “W’s” second inauguration. I can still see in my mind that famous photo on the front page of the newspaper.

      • Motorhead says:

Correction — that was in the 2000 election, for W’s FIRST appointment as POTUS.

      • If you want to get frustrated and angry all over again, watch the movie “Recount”. I realized I had blocked a lot of it so I could try to be supportive of our president. The more I learn now, the more I’m convinced I was right the first time and he didn’t deserve anyone’s support.

      • thatcrowwoman says:

and don’t forget our pregnant chads also, too… Pregnant Chad is so wrong in oh so many ways…

Problem is G2G isn’t staffed at this time of year, so they’d be hard-pressed to get a crew together and in place. It is a good idea though.

      • Bretta says:

        What?

Those large corporations who have bought our election don’t want to fund G2G?

        Why ever not?

    • jo says:

It’s being shown on KTOO from Juneau

  18. far from fenway fan says:

Counting Day … is that like Boxing Day?

    • Motorhead says:

“Counting Day” is more like “counting the legal defense fund dollars coming in from the poor masses” after the RNSC’s plea for funding help. Wait a minute… why don’t they just hit up the US Chamber of Commerce for a little more of that anonymous, unaccountable wealth gathered from all those corporate and foreign interests eager to buy our democracy?
