Open Thread – How Did We Miss This?

Kudos to Shannyn Moore who found this picture of one of the protesters at Sarah Palin’s rally in Madison, Wisconsin last week. As she noted, Brian would approve.

Absolutely love this! Thank you Moose and AKM.

I have a headband with tiny moose antlers. If I can go to the next protest here I will wear them. If not, I will force my son to wear them (o:

  2. Moose says:

thank you.I was at the Madison capitol protesting with the motor cycle rally yesterday and some guy came up to me and said “hey your the moose guy, I seen you on an alaskan website” It was great.

  3. AKPetMom says:

Shannyn is nothing if not diligent for the cause.

Love it! Thanks for finding us. The deer antlers work in a pinch. Hopefully she won’t be bothering you any more, so you’ll have no need to seek out a moose antler hat for next time.

      🙂

Ya know,I just took a closer look at that guy’s rack and come to the conclusion his right one is larger than the left one, depending on your perspective. Another observation is that red heads on moose don’t look that good,at least not for guys. I hope to get some onions planted tomanana. I will dig in spuds when I return from Iowa City,I hope.

we seem to be having a problem with the cursor in the new thread.
AKM will fix. in the meantime we can just use this open thread and hang out.

This AP story hasn’t been picked up by many (so far) but it’s worth a read since it discusses the on-going snarky destructive whine of the Wasilla Wannabe:

DNA tests link Southern Leprosy cases to armadilloes. I’m not touching this one.

Cute moose. I spent my day off outside today. Yippie skippie 😀 I won’t be starving this summer. My vegetable garden is almost done. I’m expanding my garden this year given that produce is expected to go up 50% this year. I also found a red flowering dogwood for $20! It’s not huge but it will help gussy up the place. Got a great deal on gladiolus and lily bulbs. There shall be even more flowers this year. I will be posting pics on my Facebook page so friend me up if you want to see it grow. You can send me a request through my nick on the forum page.

Thatcrowwoman, you will be seeing your Florida “Merry Golds” in the future. 🙂

I’ve had a frustrating, tiring week and a really cr@ppy day, but this little tidbit did make me smile:

“A new USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 47 percent of Americans have unfavorable views of the tea party, compared with just 33 percent who said they have favorable views. ”

Good afternoon, all. If you’re in NYC (or nearby) and haven’t seen Gasland, the documentary about hydrofracking, there’s a free screening at Mason Hall, 17 Lexington Av. (23rd St.) on Thursday, May 5th, at 7 p.m. It’s sponsored by state Senator Liz Krueger, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, and several other officials, along with a student group at Baruch. Email [email protected] or call (212) 490-9535 to reserve your spot. It’s followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Josh Fox. I probably won’t be going (I’ve seen it twice and May is a busy month for me), but I highly recommend it.

    • mike from iowa says:

What a let down. Its like you invited us to the pub for a brew and then said you wouldn’t show cuz you were drunk twice before.

Meanwhile, Alaska House Republicans make a ridiculous move:

    http://juneauempire.com/opinion/2011-04-28/it-beats-working-out-compromise

Empire editorial: It beats working (out a compromise)
Legislators go north as the budget situation goes south

If there were ever a pretense the Republican leadership in the House had any intention of working toward an honest compromise with the Senate over the budget stalemate that thin veneer shattered against the Capitol floor Wednesday.

That’s when House leaders proudly announced they were taking a road trip to Anchorage today for an official dog and pony show aimed at drumming up favorable media coverage. Yup, we said media coverage.

The House Finance Committee is spending the public’s dimes and dollars to go reporter-shopping because they have accused the Juneau-based press of being in league with the Senate and somehow hurting the budget process. …

This quote from Chugiak Republican Rep. Bill Stoltze says it all. He told reporters here in Juneau the Anchorage hearing provides “another venue to discuss the issue, maybe a different set of fresh eyes of the press on it.”

As a member of the big, bad media that stands accused of being a senatorial mouthpiece, we have to say we’re a little confused.

We didn’t know we got to vote in the House or the Senate, or that our “eyes” had anything to do with why the Legislators aren’t talking to each other and doing the job they were elected to do.

    • Alaska Pi says:

      I saw that.
      Just torches my shorts.
Defending your stance, right or wrong, is one thing.
Shopping for sympathetic media is entirely another.
Given that the so-called Juneau press is full of media reps from ANC throughout session and the same AP people who report on all of Alaska’s news it’s also pretty much horsepunky as regards the stated reason…
      Pffftt

    • mike from iowa says:

Does Anchorage have a Faux Noise affiliate by any chance? Just curious.

      • SuzySnowflake says:

There is a Fox affiliate channel here, KTBY Fox 4. I don’t know how much of an audience they have, though.

  13. mike from iowa says:

That guy gets an “A” for matching the curtain and the rug.

  14. Dagian says:

Nice job! Now, he really should have spruced up that rack, those are spindly for moose. But I imagine Rudolph and all of his friends feel the same way!

  15. tigerwine says:

Too cute – but someone should show the poor guy what a moose rack looks like. Those are reindeer antlers. His heart was certainly in the right place, though!

Ya gotta hand it to the Brits – they sure know how to put on a show! I love all that pageantry.

Got up at 4 am and amk now waiting for the kiss on the balcony. Sigh.

    • slipstream says:

Tigerwine — don’t leave the balcony, I’m on my way,

    • ibwilliamsi says:

There may be money in building a better Moose Antler hat. Do you have hot glue gun and some wire? I’d buy a pair just to string a “Moose Against Palin” sign between them!

    • Moose says:

I tried to find moose antlers. But My idea was very last minute and the costume shop only had deer antlers. But it worked.

  16. Buffalogal says:

I wholeheartedly support Moose against Pailn. I want the head gear !

Woke early and figured I might as well check in on the wedding. Tuned in just in time to see the two princes getting out of the car. I’m not much in to this sort of thing but I have to admit they look awfully handsome and regal. Diana would be proud.

( one of the cats is obviously not impressed with the pomp and circumstance. she just came in and hacked up a hairball in front of the tv. ha ! )

    • mike from iowa says:

with any luck it was the “Donald’s” fur piece. Looking handsome sure won’t hold a marriage together, believe me,I tried or lied.

      • Baker's Dozen says:

So your wife was handsome? 🙂

        • mike from iowa says:

You saw her. that’s not fair. I look like Jerry Garcia(before he passed) without the good looks or talent.

          • mag the mick says:

Well, it’s a pity we didn’t attend the Royal Wedding. My late husband the Duke’s tonsoral specialist, Jeeves of Mayfair, could’ve fixed you right up. After all, look what he did for dear Reg, known to the rest of you as Elton John.

          • mike from iowa says:

But I don’t want to be made gay. I’ll settle for positively giddy.

    • I’m with the cat. I think it is disgusting, during these times of “austerity,” that the English taxpayer is asked to foot 20 million pounds for this “pomp and lack of consequences.” Buggers should have gotten corporate sponsors and made the royal wedding party march down the aisle sporting BP, Prudential Assurance Company, Ltd. and other British company logos. The Daily Show had a nice segment with John Oliver last night interviewing “the man on the street.” Many held these same sentiments. If I were the bride (a “commoner”), I would have insisted on some “austerity” measures myself. Bloody toffers.

      • Waay Out West says:

I wonder, in these times of ‘austerity’, what the ROI (return on investment) was for the British public in terms of economic boost. For example hotels, expenses for the hordes of media who descended to cover the event, jobs for the local tech staff they used and/or work permits for those they brought with them, the souvenir industry, sales etc., tee vee advertising, publicity (Gee Elmer lets vacation in London this year) gosh the list would go on and on.

All that money would not have been spent in the UK if the happy couple had skipped off to Vegas for a quickie wedding all incognito, as it were.

        Just thinking

        • 1smartcanerican says:

I’m with you on this Waay Out West. I think the influx of dollars from outside, plus the goodwill, is probably really worth it. Plus, it was a grand wedding!

        • That’s a good point. Would like to see the numbers. Nevertheless, a bit of humility might not have hurt. And the goodwill that such humility would have among engendered among “the commoners” is something that no amount of money can buy. Tend to worry about things like “bread and circus.”

    • I wasn’t going to watch, but I was up doing other things and ended up watching through the wedding ceremony. Very beautiful and lovely, and they look so happy and relaxed with each other. I loved her dress, btw. Elegant, classic, yet not overdone. I saw a side by side photo of Kate next to Grace Kelly. Very similar styles, and it suited them both.
