Whether you choose to celebrate May Day the old fashioned way, by dancing around a pole and getting frisky in the woods, or the modern way by celebrating the importance of unions and the history of the labor movement, (or both!) may you have a happy and productive one.

Apparently this is also Mission Accomplished for Real Day also. Good riddance to that one.
For that hard to buy for royal pain in your life. You can now have a deceased persons remains taken care of through liquefaction-where water and acid essentially dissolve the organs and the bones are left in a state similat to cremation. The water/acid mix is treated and then flushed down the drain. And you thought alligators in your toilet was scary,wait until the ghost of your Mother-in-Law drops by for an extended stay.
I celebrated May Day today by doing a little home restoration. No, not on my home exactly, but on the home of a ‘neighbor’.
Last week I replaced a broken metal arch leading to my patio that was supporting a climbing rose. I had to prune the rose to within an inch of its life to get the old arch disentangled and the new one in place. Before I started, I carefully removed the robin’s nest that had been snuggled in the rose canes for the last 2 years. Since there are now very few canes in the spot selected by the mama robin, I needed to make some adjustments to make it secure. She had built the nest with a piece of rose stem going through the bottom, which helped to anchor it to the arch. I had to cut it on either side to remove it. However, I found today that it was a very fortunate addition to her construction because it gave me something to attach a wire to. I wrapped some telephone wire around each end of the rose stem and tied the ends to the frame of the arch. It’s not quite as pretty as mama built it, but it will work. Now I just hope it meets with her approval and I get some new babies to watch this summer!

Moose Pucky they are flinging flak at Shannyn. i hope Alaskan Mudflats readers will go give her some support. i found the article interesting and had no idea what Mr. Parnell did before he became governor. he is a very quiet man and on the surface seems amiable. i suppose that is what makes me go hmmm whenever his name comes up cause that’s what the neighbors always say about the serial murdering lunatic who has been caught in the family crypt with what’s left of his local the high school cheer leading squad.
at any rate i wish Shannyn well with her new gig at ADN.

Gov Parnell is doing a horrid job for all of us in Alaska. I didn’t vote for him and am proud of it.
I remember still another way to celebrating this ‘holiday’.
We would make cone shaped containers, out of pretty paper if you had it, fill it with fresh flowers, put a ribbon or handle, for haning on the door knob, on the cone. This was then taken to the person’s house that you wanted to ‘surprise’, door knocked on or bell rung and the ‘surpise’ left for enjoyment:-))
Something tells me we need a little more enjoyment, thinking of others and sharing lately.
Back in the days when you could actually do something besides preparing for tests, the 3rd and 4th graders in my school used to make little paper bouquets and send them to the local nursing home for May Day.
The kids enjoyed doing something nice for someone they didn’t even know and the day was a little brighter for an older person who knew that a child was thinking of them. Win-win!

Now, if I didn’t know that the lovely picture of that Wis pick-up truck came from Fennimore Wis I’d have guessed it was Bryan’s ride back to Madison. It’s rumored that he heard there was going to be a rally of motorcycle enthusiasts and he just had to be there. Indeed he was along with a few hundred of his closest biker buddies and ladies as well as a couple thousand biker wannabes. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a picture to you soon of Bryan and his chauffeur but I’m not as good a photographer and photo composer as Attagirl (who unfortunately had to work again, life is tough).
The crowd at Thunda Around the Rotunda was not as big as was hoped, probably for two reasons. First the weather was predicted to be rain showers and thunderstorms (60% probability) which kept the fair weather folks home. Second was that it was in the sixties with rain predicted which was way too nice a day for the real cheesehead protesters, cold and snow is much preferred. I’m figuring that the Good Lord knows this is a righteous cause as the rain did not occur during the rally. In fact the sun even came out to warm the crowd for a short while.
Shannyn will be happy to know that the moose man with the anemic rack was back, sans the headgear, but was disguised as a union thug. He had a sign “Free Hugs” and is considering franchising his idea as “Hug a Thug”. As in the past the crowd was convivial and the signs were most creative. The hit of the rally was The Ragin’ Grannies, a group inspired by the sign seen at a number of earlier rallies “Now you’ve pissed off granny”. They sang a number of songs with appropriate special lyrics. There were ten or twelve ladies in “granny dresses” and bonnets, one of whom played a wicked guitar. Their finale was the Solidarity song and the crowd joined in. Comments from Two Democratic state senators. two assemblymen and the head of the state AFL-CIO rounded out the program. A good time was had by all.

PS – I kept an eye out for Patrick D. with his sign “I’M Patrick D.” but, alas, I did not spot him. Maybe next time.

A sense of humor like that can help a person whether most any hardship. Problem is -is the cure worse than the hardship I read once a guy was saying that he had learned,a long time ago. to disabuse himself of the notion that whatever galled him or puked him was good for him,body and soul. He was talking about the leader of a wagon train and was reminded of his mother’s cure-all for life’s maladies.
Happy May Day! I would love to celebrate with a good old fashioned romp in the woods, unfortunately I have to work. Have a wonderful time without me.
