Great bumpersticker! We’re all just selfless like that…
h/t @watergatesummer
That bumper sticker should read:
I pay a higher tax rate so corporations can be people without actually being people. Grrrrrrr………
I’d condense it to –
I pay taxes
so billionaires don’t have to
Actually a more true statement.
Just for fun, Obama’s kickin’ some a$$.

had to share this! Made me laugh hope y’all enjoy it, I loved the definition for SP

martin bashir – palin – silenced everybody:
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/martin-bashir-talks-to-mediaite-about-msnbc-anonymous-threats-and-how-he-silenced-everybody/
The comments are frightening. If people are in such disagreement with Bashir, why do they listen?
Oy veh…think she’s not running? Watch her latest ad then answer that question again:

Where is Trig? Seriously.
I think I’m going to be sick.
Former Treasury official who served under Reagan and Bush Sr. called Perry an idiot (and since Palin agreed with Perry, I assume, in his mind, she’s one too):

Yep…she’s an idiot:

Something heart warming.
A video by an Irish filmmaker of the first snowfall in Wellington, New Zealand, in decades has gone viral.

Mag the Mick- your Julian, bless his heart,is crop dusting in Ioway. If he was sent to keep a close watch on me,he apparently sold hisself to a higher bidder and is raking in some coins on the side. I have been free to motor around my little state and have not encountered a yellow bi-plane for over a week. Unless one Julian nas chameleon like abilities,I’d swear he is not up to snuff as a snoop. If I bump into him I will remind hisself to keep a stiff upper lip(whatever that means). Have a pleasant, peaceful and un-forest fire like Fall.
I feel hurt and un-American due to the fact that I don’t really want to return any of my disability check to the government fund “For Nearly Homeless Billionaires.” I guess I’ll have to be content knowing that I might be personally responsible that some poor wealthy person can’t afford another mansion or yacht. As the “Guess Who” sang in a song once upon a time-Hi there little starving Asian child with bloated belly, open sores and look of despair. You are hungry aren’t you? You know,I’d love to help you get enough nutrition to perpetuate your misery a little further, but, right now I have to finish my thesis on the divine rights of kings. Poor little rich people. I do feel for them.
Don’t you all feel sorry for the “poor” banks??/// And give them slack for not loaning money to people wanting to start a business? WOW!
We just received a letter from our bank , saying that one of our CD’s was renewed for another 6 mos. The interest will be .75000%. I can’t wait to get our next check.
Guess I had best plan as to how I will spend my windfall.
NOT FUNNY

Remedial reading for those Republicans in the crowd who imagine that being poor is synonymous with virtue:
http://www.politicususa.com/en/america-poverty-china
I bet America’s billionaires and millionaires would not have had the opportunity to be such if they lived in another country. I am looking forward to my 1st million so I can pay my taxes to contribute to the country where financial dreams are even possible. Knowing my taxes were instrumental in building/maintaining highways, schools, public safety… etc… What better way to show one’s patriotism.
Then you might want to move to Denmark or France. Our Danish and French friends simply cannot get over how ignorant Americans are about universal healthcare. They grumble about their taxes but quickly acknowledge that they get a lot for what they put in. Something we cannot do.
Since I’ll never be a millionaire or billionaire I guess I’ll just stay here and keep the million- and billionaires in their fancy houses and boats and cars. We get to see enough of them on reality tv!
Like our friends from abroad, I’ll never understand why so many Americans vote against their own best interests. There is plenty of poverty in the area we live in and those places are as “red” as red can be on election day. The Republicans and their corporate friends must really get a good laugh when people who have absolutely nothing continue to vote for them on non-issues like “death taxes” (as if any of these farmer families would ever have to pay estate taxes!), guns (no one will take them away) and abortion (no one is forcing anyone to have an abortion).
“Like our friends from abroad, I’ll never understand why so many Americans vote against their own best interests.”
Three words: anger, fear, ignorance
Three things the Republicans (especially the radical right wing) is expert at using to their own benefit.
China, Russia, Brazil, India, and Mexico are riddled with with millionaires and billionaires.
Screw patriotism. How about simple fairness, justice, and a level playing field?
There is such an uproar about our President being on a 10 day vacation. I guess he was to stay in DC while the rest of the elected officials are on their 30 day vacation.
This will make 70 days that he has taken for a vacation since being in office.
As for George Bush———-he took 225 days vacation time.after being in office for the same period of time.
Any chance the Rethugs have to slam Obama, they will take it. Their goal is to win the White House, not to fix our economy. The more people out of work, the more votes for the GOP. I wish the media would report on the effects of cutting government spending now, the effects of continuing to reduce revenue. Unfortunately, they would rather report on anything but that-
First of all, I will freely admit that I am jealous of the President and his family for their lovely vacation trip. This summer is seeing a host of expenses for me that preclude any kind of vacation trip I might enjoy myself. New siding, a garage roof repair, stove and plumbing repairs and a new dishwasher will sorely deplete my poor little bank account but are all necessary. However…
Having said that. I am aware that the President and First Lady have plenty of money to vacation anywhere they so desire, and do not begrudge them their time away. Furthermore, the President has by far the most difficult, challenging and responsible job in our country and he needs to be at his best at all times. He is being obstructed at every turn, which must be extraordinarily frustrating. As far as I’m concerned, spending 10 days in a lovely place with his wife and children will help him to relax and recharge as well as giving him the rare opportunity to spend some time just enjoying his family.
A refreshed, relaxed and happy President is one who can make better decisions. Frankly, I’d prefer that to one who’s tired, frustrated, cranky and irritable!
Enjoy your vacation, President Obama, Mrs. Obama, Malia and Sasha (and Bo!)!
Enjoy your vacation, President Obama, Mrs. Obama, Malia and Sasha (and Bo!)!
Amen to that, Leenie!
Plus, it is a working vacation….he is never totally away from the job. President Obama has taken the least amount of days as to vacation (same time frame of holding office) than prior presidents.
I’m most disgusted w/the negative commentary spewed hourly (seems like by the minute) about our President by the Repubs. I swear they are all seem to have planned this because everyone of them has a different subject in which to knock him. I just wish one of the a–holes would give him a compliment.
Bottom line – where are the jobs? Income tax laws need to reformed so that businesses don’t have loopholes to ‘avoid’ paying taxes (writeoffs) when they file each year. Taxes should be increased on the rich. It’s going to be interesting to watching Congress get back to work to see if they did, in fact, listen to the people that elected them while they were on their vacation.
If they don’t actually do real work, they should all be fired next election cycle.
Haven’t you heard? They don’t HAVE to listen to their annoying constituents any more unless they pony up some cash to attend a special event.
Several of the Republican (shocker, I know!) Congresscritters, including Paul Ryan, Ben Quayle, and Chip Cravaack, have refused to schedule any free town halls this month. They are only appearing at events which charge a fee to attend, usually organized by an outside group so they don’t have to take the heat for charging or for limiting attendance to ‘acceptable’ supporters. Now, for many, the fees are not astronomical ($10 and up), but the point is that they are limiting access to those who can afford to pay. I’m sure it is designed to discourage the very people who CAN’T afford it because they are likely the ones to have the most complaints. A business owner who is able to easily pay for the privilege of meeting with their rep is more likely to be supportive (especially with all those nice little tax breaks they’re getting) than a person who’s been out of work for months, losing his house to foreclosure, running out of unemployment benefits and having trouble putting food on the table.
“By outsourcing the events to third parties that charge an entry fee to raise money, members of Congress can eliminate most of the riffraff while still — in some cases — allowing reporters and TV cameras for a positive local news story.”
I think the appropriate term for politicians that do this is ‘scum’.

So true, we made required repairs on the homestead this summer too. But, I have to admit, I am so thankful it was possible to do so! Life is a trade-off, choices to be made.
Why in the world would anyone complain about the Obama’s taking a break from it all? Consider the Bushies and how much time off they took. Also, did anyone complain about Kennedy’s trips to Cape Cod? No.
I would like to know why no one is ranting about 1/5 of congress going on all expense paid trips to Isreal instead of home talking to their constituents (for free)

I resemble that bumper sticker,
and agree with Warren Buffett that the uber-wealthy should not pay less in taxes (percentage- wise, don’tcha know) than the working folks. Also. Too. You betcha!
DH Happy feels better now than he did before he had 3 teeth pulled. Last night he insisted on chicken wings to go with his mashed potatoes and gravy, and actually managed to nibble 3 or 4. Then he told me he’d been to Hardee’s for breakfast…a sausage gravy biscuit that he tore in tiny little pieces, sopped ’em good so they’d melt in his mouth…said it was the best biscuit he ever ate, a little taste of heaven on earth. That’s my Happy. 🙂
and, yes, I Do Believe that thoughts and prayers from family and friends have something to do with Happy’s speedy and strong recovery, thank you very much. Toda raba. Quayana. Zyxomma, he’s fascinated by the tuning fork and reports that its vibrant tone is a slightly sharp C. It has intrigued his inner biochemist, and a curious Happy is a happy Happy!
jimzmum, first sign in the forest: wild cherry leaves turning red and falling. That, and the temps and humidity Both falling below the 90s!
merrycricket, they are hot, the are tired, they are under-employed and/or paid so they are stressed and stuffing and it’s bound to manifest around them, bless their hearts. I tell my students that we need to be kind to one another, because EveryOne is carrying some heavy private burden, even if we can’t see it by looking at them.
That being said, I also keep several aluminum pie tins with “ice pies” in the freezer. When I need to vent, I’ll pop out a pie, take it outside and Smash it into a Thousand Jagged Pieces! HA! Then I breathe deeply while watching the ice melt (no more broken crockery to sweep into the dustbin, eh?) and then I usually feel more better. I am a door slammer, at heart, as was my mother before me and her mother before her, but I quit when I slammed one right off the hinges, breaking the frame even. Oy vey! anger management much?
Herman (Littlebird’s 1982 Mercedes turbo-diesel station-wagon) has to spend a couple of weeks with Happy and the mechanic, so we’re taking her back to college tomorrow to begin her senior year. (She just finished the first full draft of her honor’s thesis: Rhetoric in Reporting about the Deepwater Horizon.) *busting my buttons*
I can collect more hugs when we deliver Herman after Labor Day. hahahaha caw Caw CAW! She’s being remarkably mature and a very good sport about the whole thing, seeing as how the cooling system only started crying for help yesterday. Very adaptable, our Littlebird, and quite zen with a great sense of balance. She inspires me.
So life is very good in the forest, praises be.
L’shalom,
thatcrowwoman
Thatcrowwoman, my sound-healing friend on the Rosebud reservation intuits that 528 Hz, which is very close to C, was among the tones used by the Lakota (and probably other plains tribes) before the Europeans came and “taught” them music. I don’t doubt her. She got the forks for us. I use mine daily, and am trying to train my voice to tone with it (hard to do; I learned a lot of music in my youth).
I hope you’ll post a link to Littlebird’s honors thesis when it’s finished. Fascinating subject, and I’m sure she’s doing a great job. Tikkun olam shalom.
Up early. This is supposed to be my day off but alas, we have signs to put up in the store for liquidation. I get to wear jeans and get to leave when I’m finished so there is a bright side. (the overtime pay won’t be bad either.) I will be glad to get away from these cranky people though. It’s not just our store either, had a couple waitresses tell me that she has had some really rude customers too. What is up with that?
People are angry. All over. But they have no real enemy. The ones that are easily manipulated become teapartiers and hate the government.
People are angry because it is getting harder to make a decent living. having a dinner on the table each week that included the luxury of a beefroast or a good stew is now an occasional luxury. We are headed back to the times when a good meal was a half pound of ground meat made into 6 cups of meat gravy to pour over potatoes and bread to feed a family of 12.
people are angry and they have good reason to be angry, but I cannot see why they keep voting for these dang republicans.
I am sorry that they are taking it out on you, merrycricket, but they are angry and do not have an outlet. As ‘someone’ once said,do not blame them, they know not what they do.
America has over-indulged for years. Instant gratification. Credit card debt. Mortgages they couldn’t afford. Closets full of clothes they don’t wear. Costly toys and designer clothes for their kids. I see this all as getting back into balance. We are lucky the economy isn’t worse for our irresponsibility and ignorance. Remember when home purchases required 10 grand down payment and interest rates were 8-11%? Buying a home was a big deal and people saved to purchase their 1st home. We got spoiled is all. We also got sicker buying pretty packages of processed foods. Perhaps going back to home-cooked meals, casseroles and slow cooker meals with ingredients from the garden and cutting back on red meat, potato chips, and ice cream is a good thing.
Hell, why not drag out and wear the louse-ridden burlap sackcloth, scatter the ashes from the woodstove all over your hair, get out the handy amateur-sized flail and wander the streets beating yourself and wailing for repentance?
I don’t know what American’s you’re acquainted with, but I don’t know any who fit your description. Maybe you hang out with millionaires?
I have to agree with Polly on this one. It pretty much describes 80% of the people I know. None are millionaires. Many have big credit card bills. All have I-phones.
Most people these days are interested in instant gratification, reality TV, and 24/7 “connectivity.”
Just signs of the times we are going through. Today is my all-cliche day.
Whether people believe that it’s the rich or the poor getting all the money, people know they have been getting screwed. Everyone is frustrated with the complete disconnect they see in their government representatives. The worst part of it is that it seems we are powerless to stop it.
People at the top (and on the right) complain about the poor getting too much, most people who are not rich complain about them getting too much, and guess who’s stuck paying for all of it…the middle class, as usual!
I think part of the problem is that it has become SO expensive to run a state or national political campaign these days that ONLY the rich can afford to do it. Regular, middle class people just don’t have the resources or connections to campaign for higher office. So you end up with too many wealthy politicians representing people with whom they have no connection or empathy. With the Citizens United decision, it is only bound to get worse and we have no way to fight back against it as long as this SCOTUS is still on the bench.
I’m very fortunate to have two Senators (Schumer and Gillibrand) and a brand-spanking-new Congresswoman (Hochul) who really DO try to represent me as best they can, but most Americans aren’t that fortunate.
Love the bumper sticker.
I like that! Thank you, AKM.
We are home. We left at 3 yesterday morning to drive to KY for a funeral. Got home last night. Wish we could have not done this in one day, but we had to get back, and could not leave until yesterday morning. I think I am getting too mature for such a day.
Finally, FINALLY, got the check from the insurance company! Of course it has to be cosigned by the company that holds our mortgage, but Himself is overnighting it this morning. No matter. I will call our contractor today and he can get started on the permitting. The storm was two months ago today at about noon.
There is something hissing in the garage. And rattling around. I am thinking possum, so he can have the garage. The storm whacked the door from the garage to the back, and I guess he nosed his way in through the temporary repair. Maybe the insurance will come and get him out? Probably not. I need him to leave, because I am canning tomato sauce all weekend, and I do that out in the garage on hot plates. I am not scared of much, but I am petrified of a possum. Vile, nasty boogers, when they are threatened. Guess I should wake Himself so he can save me. Maybe not.
Saw no signs of autumn on the drive yesterday. Generally, the first signs around here are the Sumac leaves turning that Medieval Red they do so well. What are the first signs where you are?
While I have seen a few scarlet leaves drop off our Canadian cherry in the front, it’s been too hot to trigger much yet- still in the low 90s. Yuck.
Possums are truly ugly, scary critters that you would do well to stay away from. Be careful and good luck with the ‘eviction’ and with your renovations.
Rent a havaheart trap from a local hardware store. Put some cat food into the back end of it and set it. Mr. or Ms. Opossum will be in there when you get up in the AM. Take the trap to a wild area and let the critter go.
ooooh, I just hate those garage hissy things . . . .
I just get the garden hose out and chase the varmits out by bouncing the water at them….. it’s a bit tricky with the skunks, haven’t been “sprayed” yet !! ( knocks on wood/head)
skunk don’t smell as bad as right wing politician.
