Photos from Wall Street
On September 17, hundreds of protestors descended on lower Manhattan to publicly denounce the nation’s current financial system. The demonstration’s organizers plan to continue occupying the area around Wall Street for weeks or even months—however long it takes to change a system they say benefits the rich and powerful at the expense of middle-class and poor Americans. We’ll be following the protests and will continue to update the following stream with the latest images from the center of the financial world.
The Mudflats’ New York Bureau Chief and photojournalist Zach Roberts is in New York City, and has been covering the Wall Street protest this week. Many of his photos were picked up by Portfolio. Here is a photo album of some of his best shots. Enjoy!
Wow. There I was thinking people didn’t protest anymore….silly me. Mainstream media just won’t call it news.
There are legitimate concerns that the twitter and email accounts of the organization were tampered with to interfere with communications. When that happened in Iran and in North African, the US screamed about it.
Thank you, Zach Roberts, for boots on the ground coverage.
I watched the footage of the arrests. I was reminded of this old gem:

I miss the days when news organizations paid people to report on events like this. Thank goodness for volunteer bloggers.

I find the photograph showing the police woman holding her baton at the ready very chilling. I wonder if she feels threatened or is trying to intimidate the protestors. Either way, that pose is not conducive to a sense of peaceful gatherings.
take a closer look Sunflower. i think you will see the officer has a slight smile on her face and the protester is smiling also. she can’t look directly at him but they are sharing a moment.
They were actually giggling at eachother… I’m really happy I caught the moment, as it shows that there are many officers out there that are understanding of this movement.
Amazing how this isn’t being reported on. Where are we Iran? Next thing you know they’ll be trying to block Twitter and arresting anyone with a cell phone.
