Open Thread – Frost II

As promised, here are the shots I took on the return leg of my frosty hike the other morning. All mornings since have followed suit, with temperatures well below freezing, and a beautiful but fleeting display of frost when the sun rises.

What I thought was just a clump of frost turned out to be flowers! It was hard to tell where one ended and the other began, because the petals were almost shaped like ice crystals. The flowers were palest lavender and frozen stiff with a coating of white.

This is frozen horsetail grass, lying flat at the edge of my driveway. For some perspective, here is a picture I took in June from the exact same spot. Our color pallet has changed a little…

I’ve seen a lot of flowers this Fall, too – so strange – I don’t remember poppies and lilacs and Rosa rugosa blooming this late in the year before.

I even have green raspberries and cherry tomatoes still trying …

Not sure if I just wasn’t observant in past years or should attribute it to climate change.

    But your photographs are lovely.

Wow! Ice crystals right out there in the great outdoors, outside of the freezer? That’s amazing! (We otters aren’t real big on snow. I did visit it once, though.)

Is it possible for someone in Mudflats Land to explain to me what apostrophies have done to upset the wardens at Yahoo News? You can sneak all kinds of racist or four letter words past these fools in broad daylight, you cannot slip an apostrophe past them.Every apostrophe is removed and replaced with a garble of gibberish so whatever word you intended to use loses its meaning. This has gone on for several weeks and I can’t get an explanation from Yahoo to save myself. I hope some fellow Pups have a reasonable explanation. If I had any wits,I’d be at the end of them. Glad to know you are still alive Irishgirl. I was afraid I’d have to go looking for you.

yesterday there was a report for the American Spectator,by an assistant editor of said rag named Patrick Howley. He claimed that he infiltrated a group of protestors at the National Air and Space Museum for the sole purpose of inciting a riot to prove that the protestors were a violent group. He wanted to write the story himself. He succeeded in getting into the museum alone and was subsequently pepper sprayed by a security guard. He said the security guard was braver than the protestors who didn’t participate in the one man riot. I’m not sure what to make of the story except to say that any fool that commits a crime to get another person to participate in said crime and then brag about it,probably should be sent to the Mental Health Center for the Criminally Insane in Cherokee,Iowa 51012,for his/her own safety. Sane people really can’t make this stuff up.

I got to thinking if all of us Progressives and what-not all decided to protest raising taxes on the wealthy,maybe-just maybe-the nutters will decide if we are for tax cuts for the wealthy, that they themselves would automatically be against tax cuts for the wealthy. Maybe we should give it a try.Be something-occupy space.

      I can picture this…

PH – “Hey, everybody! Follow me! Let’s trash this place!”

OWS1 – “Who is that idiot, and why is he trying to storm the museum?”

OWS2 = “Dunno. Ignore him. Keep on target.”

      PH – “Cowards!”

Absolutely gorgeous. I always enjoy your photography, and this is especially lovely. For those of you following the action at Occupy Wall Street, tomorrow the park will be cleared out for “cleaning,” this despite the fact that many participants in the action have been keeping the park clean. Some activists fear this is a ploy to stop the demonstrations. Will keep you posted as I learn more.

Didn’t Bloomberg JUST say they could stay as long as they wanted? What happened?
