Zyxomma, why do you think this the right place to share this letter? You probably think it doesn’t hurt either. Apart from that pics like this remind me of the beauty of nature which us humans are so much ready to destroy for the sake of profits and comfort.

  2. Zyxomma says:

Here’s an email that may be of interest, particularly to up-and-coming young filmmakers:

    Dear [Zyxomma],

If I Had A Trillion Dollars Youth Film Festival

Please share this opportunity with anyone you think would be interested.

With President Obama’s confirmation that all US troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year it’s time again to consider the human and financial costs of war. More than $1 trillion have been spent on Iraq and Afghanistan, just imagine what benefit that money could have wrought. It’s time to hear what young people – who will be paying for these wars for years to come – have to say about how best to remedy the distorted spending priorities shown in the current federal budget.

It seems that these days, everyone has an opinion about our federal budget. Budget cuts are forcing reductions in healthcare and other programs that are crucial for young people and our communities – and yet youth aren’t part of the conversation.

The American Friends Service Committee and National Priorities Project are pleased to offer young people a chance to lift their voice by submitting a video to the If I Had a Trillion Dollars National Youth Video Festival.

This year we are excited to welcome actress and activist Susan Sarandon as our head judge.

The IHTD Youth Film Festival asks young people to speak out on the federal budget and to consider:

The nearly $1 trillion spent every year on the US military.
The more than $1 trillion spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The more than $1 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Who? The festival is open to individuals and groups of youth age 23 or younger.

What? Videos must be 3 minutes or less in length and chronicle how the video maker(s) would spend $1 trillion.

When? Videos must be received by January 15, 2011.

Where? The festival culminates April 7 to April 10, 2012, when AFSC and NPP will hold a youth leadership conference, film screening for members of Congress in Washington, DC.

AFSC and NPP have resource materials available on the federal budget and critical issues often missing from the debate, such as tax cuts for the wealthy and war spending.

Learn more about IHTD on our web site where you can find complete rules and instructions, fact sheets, and videos from last year’s winners.

Please join us, and help us spread the word about this important project.

    Wage Peace,
    Peter Lems and Mary Zerkel

The title of this page reminds me of an anti-war song “December Skies” by the Cowboy Junkies.

The lyrics are disturbing and the song is haunting, as only Margo Timmins could sing.

Beautiful photo. It’s 0 here in the Eastern Interior, Alaska. Wind blew alot yesterday, enough to get the plow truck out. First plow of the season. Long driveway off the Alaska Highway. Need to keep it clear so customers don’t get stuck.

Good ole Christian conservatives in Georgia (this time):

“Thomas allegedly said that there “is no way for us, as militiamen, to save this country, to save Georgia, without doing something that’s highly highly illegal. Murder. That’s fucking illegal, but it’s gotta be done,” Thomas allegedly said.

“When it comes time to saving the Constitution, that means some people gotta die,” Thomas allegedly said.”

we have the possibilty of snow Thursday nite in the Santa Cruz mtns !! Throws a wrench into my work schedule, but I ain’t complainin’ !!

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Throws a wrench into my travel plans. It’s dreadful hitting the SC mtns when it snows. Too many people don’t know how to drive in it and fall apart at the seams–even though it seems to snow every year.

Think I’ll stay home a couple of extra days. Pull out your skis.

  7. tigerwine says:

Well, the frost is definitely on the pumpkin here in north GA. It was so heavy yesterday that my favorite first grader ran to her mom telling her that it had snowed

Republicans don’t have time to waste on this silly ‘jobs’ stuff when they must protect “In God We Trust” from imagined (and totally invented) enemies:

What a lovely gift this morning.

Sky-blue pink was Grandma Shorty’s favorite color.
    Memories well up
and wrap around me like her bear hugs,
    all dusted with cinnamon-sugar
    and ringing with laughter.

    L’dor v’dor;
    from generation to generation.
    Blessings flow.

*passing Grandma Shorty’s hug to you*
    pass it on, eh?

    L’Shalom,

Beautiful! I am still smacking mosquito bombers around here. Ready for a freeze! It is November for goodness sakes.

We are all still walking around with sappy grins plastered to our faces thanks to our Cardinals’ winning the World Series. I do love baseball, and this series was outstanding. I about ruined a batch of pumpkin butter because I became so riveted one night by the actions in the field, I stood at the stove not stirring for almost too long.

    • OzMud says:

jimzmum! You should get a kick out of this site then – the link is to an entire section of ‘cardinals’ cakes that for some reason is a problem for cake makers to spell correctly – the mistakes are hilarious.

Great sky! Wish i was there – all we’ve had lately is a lotta fog!

      • jimzmum says:

And you know that after visiting that hilarious site, I had to come back here and check my spelling! Thank you!

      • leenie17 says:

Wow…looked at some of the baby shower cakes…creepy!!! Who would want to cut up and eat a cake baby???

And some of them were a little too much like photographs from an obstetrics textbook. Just because you CAN doesn’t always mean you SHOULD!

  11. GoI3ig says:

I could have done without the wind. It was blowing 45+ in Anchorage tonight. It made for a lot of snow and dirt blowing around.

  12. Baker's Dozen says:

Wow! We’ve just been having fog. It’s so thick this very early morning that I can hear the fog horn from over a mile away with all the windows closed.

Some clear weather would be welcome about now.
