More Than a Million Wisconsinites Want to Quit Scott Walker

More than a million signatures (that’s 3,000 pounds worth) were gathered and delivered today to ensure that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker would face a recall election later in the year. That’s what happens when you push policies that effectively eliminate most collective bargaining rights for many public employees. Just to play it safe organizers overshot the number of required signatures by about 460,000. There’s nothing like making an unambiguous statement.

Also targeted were Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and a handful of Republican legislators, all well-exceeding the number of signatures required to generate a recall election.

Kelly Steele, a strategist for We Are Wisconsin, the group that led Wisconsin’s Senate recalls, also hailed Tuesday’s news as a victory for all Wisconsinites.

“Scott Walker lied his way into office, and has since launched unprecedented attacks on Wisconsin’s working families, dividing the state like never before,” Steele said in an email. “This historic recall is a million-strong victory for Wisconsinites united to take their government back from wealthy special interests who bought and paid for Scott Walker and are dictating the terms of his extreme agenda.”

As painful as it may be, Alaskans are going to have to seriously consider relinquishing our claim to “Worst Governor Ever.”  We proudly withstood the assault of crazy narcissism from Rod Blagojevich, but Scott Walker may just be too formidable a foe.

In the meantime, Walker may just want to think about how he can push Wisconsin’s agenda forward and advocate outside the system. Remember Scott, you don’t need a title to make a difference.

I take trips to Wisconsin on a fairly regular basis. The people of Wisconsin are very warm and
friendly so I sent money to the recall effort of Scott Walker. Glad to see they got a million signatures
since we know the Rethugs will try and invalidate as many as they can.

  2. Go Wisconsin!!! Sometimes I wish I was a cheerleader, not often, mind you, but some things just call for pom poms, or something similar. 🙂 Just want to get my two cents in before the SOPA blackouts.

Cheer up, Alaskans! I’m sure that the record for worst governor ever 🙂 per capita 🙂 will be yours for decades to come. She’s kind of the Bob Beaman of governors–only in a bad way.

Are there any mudflats in Wisconsin?

Thanks AKM for the story. I like to call our Governor “Droopy Dawg” because, seriously, he looks and sounds just like that cartoon dawg. He’s as smart as your former Governor, too, and didn’t bother finishing his college degree.

Bait and switch is great grounds for a recall, and I’m thrilled to sorta still live in a somewhat progressive state!

Congratulations, Wisconsin! What a great example you have set for the rest of us.

Now comes an equally challenging part: getting out the vote. Go Wisconsin!

P.S. Here’s hoping Walker and his crew don’t try to tie this up in knots in the court for long. The Koch brothers might be willing to pour money into try.

How I wish there were laws against outside money flowing into a state to affect state elections. I understand how money can come in from almost anywhere for federal elections, but with all the states-rights talk from the GOP, you’d think they’d want to limit outside dollars influencing state outcomes – – oh, wait, that would ruin their plans ’cause that’s how they operate. Sorry, I forgot, hehe.

I agree about outside state money. The amount of money poured into the prop 8 campaign here in California by a rather large Utah entity was astounding.

The only good I see from something like that is that they’ll use up a tremendous amount of funds on efforts like that all around the country in what is, in the end, a lost cause for them. That’s money spent trying to keep this country from progressing that could have well been spent on other conservative programs that could actually end up having a longer, more negative impact. At least that’s what I tell myself.

They only want to stop any out-of-state money that might support the opposition. The $$$s that are raised to support Walker are just fine ’cause that’s different (somehow).

What made me laugh was the complaint about the outside money coming from Walker as he attended a big fundraiser for himself…in NYC! Last time I looked, NYC was NOT part of Wisconsin!

He may not need a title to make a difference, but he might need a Faux News contract. 😉

She Who May Not Be Named will always be the worse governor ever. Not because of her legislative policies, however. As Governor, SWMNBN supported legislation that Democrats favored. So she was able to get some good progressive legislation passed by working with the Ds. No, SWMNBN is the worst Governor ever because of how her true personality came out after McCain’s worst decision ever.

I am just enjoying cases of popcorn watching this whole thing blow up in the face of Walker et. al. They thought they had it in the bag. They thought they could push through their agenda and no one would be able to stop them. Bet cold sweat is beading on his forehead. Better polish up that resume Walker, and get ready to start looking for that lobbying job you were promised.

  9. merrycricket says:

His attitude and the remarks of his spokes people have been pretty cocky and arrogant in my opinion. They are going to get a rude awakening if they really believe their own BS.

A Victory for working families everywhere!
We could use some of that cheese to get our governor on the unemployment line!

    • benlomond2 says:

hhhmmm… if he’s “fired” from being govenor, I don’t think he’ll be eligible for unemployment- “misconduct” as the reason for termination, makes you ineligible for benefits….

  11. leenie17 says:

I’ve never been to Wisconsin and don’t know anyone who lives there, but I could not be more thrilled with this astounding success!

From the first days of the march on the Capitol, through the first round of recalls, now to the million signatures gathered in a short amount of time, I am amazed and impressed at the determination and perseverance of Wisconsinites. They can be proud of their place as one of the first waves of resistance to the GOP destruction of this country.

Walker, and all those who follow the dictates of the Kochs and corporate overlords, need to be resoundingly vanquished and dispatched forthwith to the dustbins of history.

    Congratulations, Wisconsin! 🙂

    That’s an excellent start.

So rewarding to send $$ to our cheese head peeps. Not much mind you, but still there is a certain satisfaction!!!
