Fact-check: Anchorage gay-rights proposal doesn’t impact religious protection

Good job Alex! Good job AK Dispatch!

Palin’s ‘annoy a liberal’ chant is viewed around the world:

  3. A Fan From Chicago says:

I think there will be a fair amount of Buyer’s Remorse in a number of Congressional Districts where voters fell for the Tea Baggers in 2010. Would love to know what the DNC and state Democratic parties have done to recruit good Dems to challenge the accidental Congresspeople. May there be people on Election Day all across the country saying, “What on earth was I thinking last time? Let’s fix this mistake.”

Also, the notion that a weak standard bearer at the top of the Republican ticket could have very adverse effects on down the ballot candidates will help. But we all need to do our part too.

It makes more medical sense to require a digital rectal exam and an EKG on a man asking for a Erectile Dysfunction prescription than an ultrasound on a pregnant woman seeking an abortion. Don’t all those TV commercials for ED drugs admonish “ask your doctor if you’re healthy enough for sexual activity”? Unfortunately the amendment failed.

The Muppets hold a press conference to address Fox News:

    • scout says:

Leave it to the Republicans to declare to war on the Muppets.

Jim Henson, love you, man! GOP, not so much.

      What Miss Piggy said, Republicans.

  6. leenie17 says:

Just when you think that Faux Business ‘News’ can’t be more laughable and absurd, they’re now accusing the recent Muppet movie of being anti-oil, anti-corporate propaganda.

There was actually a press conference held by Kermit and Miss Piggy in England last week, defending their movie from the complaints. Kermit denied the charges made by Fox.

“Miss Piggy was more combative and political; the puppet added that the charge was “almost as laughable as accusing Fox News of being news.”

The article is funny but the comments are hilarious. As usual. the right wingers are defensive and behaving as though the Muppets are, in fact, dirty, rotten liberals bent on brainwashing small children to their leftist, Marxist, commie, soshalist causes.

    My 2 favorite comments:
“Nobody puts Piggy in a corner.”

And this one, responding to a RWNJ accusing “libs” of thinking that Miss Piggy was real –
“as real as Megan Kelly is! face it both are made up entirely of silicone and stuffing -”

“Catholic churches evangelize against Obama en masse”

“In a surprising move over the weekend, thousands of Catholic parishioners were read letters that condemn the Obama administration and its recent decision to make birth control available to women through virtually all private health insurance plans.

“The letters were written by Catholic Bishops in the U.S. and read aloud at hundreds of Catholic churches on Sunday. In one of the letters (PDF), written by a Catholic Bishop in Phoenix, Ariz., the church attacks the Obama administration for having “cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our Nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty.”…”

WTF? The Catholic superPAC? Time for them to pay taxes.

    • Lacy Lady says:

Wonder if Rick Santorium promoted this—–or Newt? trying to get the Catholic vote?
I have news for them——they will lose more than a vote—-they will lose the Catholic Women.
looks to me like the Bishops should be more interested in going after all those priests that they shufflel around from place to place that have raped little boys.

      • scout says:

        Bishops…responsibility…rape

        not

but certainly, hold us to a higher standard,

        ye speakers of God’s will

all raise a golden religious chalice

        tax-free!!

        • Mag the Mick says:

I just read where the Vatican’s office of the Inquisition (they don’t call it that, but it is the direct descendant of the original) is sending priests to the USA to investigate…nuns. Yep, apparently those ladies are being a tad too uppity. Thinking for themselves. Running their own programs and making their own decisions. I have had the great pleasure and privilege of knowing and working with a number of “women religious” throughout my adult life. They are as far from the ruler-wielding, Catholic-school nuns from the 50’s as you can imagine, and for many years, my friendships with them were the only thing that kept me even nominally Catholic. I always figured if I could be as decent a human and good a Christian as the likes of Sister Maureen or Sister Louise, then I’d keep trying within the structure of the church. But now, the independance, charity and – let’s face it – fighting spirit of these now-elderly ladies is under threat by a bunch of Inquisitors. Too bad I have already removed myself from the church, as I’d do it again over this one!

Palin’s latest: Vote for Newt, annoy a liberal is too much even for the conservative National Review: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/289621/palin-vote-newt-annoy-liberal-katrina-trinko Take a look at the comments.

    • Mo says:

Normally I avoid National Review [prefer the Sadly, No! characterization of it as “The World’s Sh—-est Website”], but you’re right, the comments illuminate just how much $arah “Bullseye” Palin’s brassy glamour has tarnished into moldy green.

    • scout says:

The old bumper sticker, “Annoy Prevo, think for yourself” was all over the comments last week when Pervo’s (Anchorage Baptist Temple) property tax purloining hit the front page.

Ain’t the Palin so astoundingly clever; she reversed the order: Vote for Newt, annoy a liberal.

I’m going to divulge what annoys this liberal, quittypants; the deluge of dumb that inundates me every time you open your pie hole. And, also, too, there, you’re mean, Mrs. Palin.

    • Mo says:

      Only this time intentionally, what?

Caught this on the Google news front page, so it must be getting some circulation.

Watching the Republican upper echelons trying to quell the Teabagger rabble is so-o-o-o entertaining.

34 degrees this morning after a couple of weeks of “unseasonably” warm weather.

I do believe we will have an early spring here and it would be very welcome. Yeaterday, I read that the zones in Ohio for gardening are changing due to more accurate data about our low temps. We are now in zone 6 instead of zone 5 and I can now consider a broader range of plants than before! Look out crape myrtle you’re on my list!

      • COalmost Native says:

Colorado has changed also, too- due to several years do warmer winter temperatures. Unfortunately, it’s no longer cold enough to kill off the pine beetles and they continue to decimate our gorgeous forests. And drought is causing aspen die-off… Obvious evidence of climate change
        /:(

        • Zyxomma says:

A week or two ago, I posted a link showing the planting map zones for the entire country. Many, many of them have changed. But a certain party would have us believe that (1) the climate isn’t really changing, or (2) it is, but not because of us. Actions have consequences. GOTV.

  11. tigerwine says:

WOW!! I picked up a copy of John Grisham’s “The Street Lawyer” from our Quilt retreat table last week, and just started reading it last night. On page 20, a homeless man is holding a bunch of lawyers hostage, and asking them how much they make, and how much they donate to charity.

“How ’bout clinics? We got these litte clinics where doctors – good decent people who used to make lots of money – come and donate their time to help the sick. They don’t charge nothing. Government used to help pay the rent, help buy the medicine and supplies. Now the government’s run by Newt and all the money’s gone. How much do you give to the clinics?”

I quickly thumbed to the front of the book to see when the book was written: 1998!! So even back then they had him pegged. Sheesh, I just don’t see how he can face people and ask them to vote for him.

      all white men, to boot.

      • Ripley in CT says:

how’s that for representative government? No women, no people of any other color than pale.

The thing that gets me going is the fact that the teabagger contingent and their ridiculous ideas do NOT represent a majority of constituents, no matter what they say. Their lives in Congress will be short-lived. Change is a-comin’
