Aids claim Dick(less) Cheney had a heart transplant today. Speculation is the heart came from a compassionate, conservative, spineless crustacean with DC’s disposition.

That’s a good flow chart. In order for those of us who love salmon as a food source out here in Western Alaska, we have to CHANGE the way salmon politics have gone since the public became aware of the Pollock Fisheries salmon BYCATCH problem. The bandaid system that the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council has been implementing in the last five years still leaves the subsistence users high and dry without an adequate solution for keeping the salmon users tradition and culture alive. The industry’s main goal is to protect itself from getting shut down. They can do this because they have the money to influence the regulators – it’s a two billion dollar industry.

The Community Development Quota program (CDQs) of the Pollock Fishery. Pollock Fishers CDQ program. The program doesn’t belong to the people as was intended 20 years ago this year, 2012. Instead it is misleading the poor, illiterate, and ignorant by throwing little bits of Pollock Fishery profits at the villages who have strong, aggressive leaders on the CDQs Board of Directors. Bullies on the Board. No more looking at the best interests of a region. Bullies on the Board keep the quiet guys down therefore keeping the Western Alaska Region down. The stakeholders of the Public Monies CDQ program need to demand Change in order to protect their traditions and culture.

The politicians that make the major decisions aren’t interested in Native Culture when the culture of greed is upon them. They see greenbacks in their future and that is the future they believe everyone wants. From far off Iowa I can see that in Korporate Amerika’s eyes, subsistence utilization of natural resources is under-harvesting and to them,it is probably poor management. They take and take and when it is gone, they move on to their next endeavor, leaving ruins behind. This has happened for ever and rwnj aren’t gonna change the status quo. The Peoples that love and revere what Nature has provided don’t have the political clout to stop the rapacious greed. It is heart breaking to see this happen to such a beautiful land and her children.

  3. mike from iowa says:

The word retarded has been officially expunged from Iowa law and replaced hy the term-intellectually disabled. Now when you rebuild a gas engine and want to time the spark you must intellectually disable the timing of the distributor(in certain Chevys) to 4 degrees before top dead center.

    • leenie17 says:

What do musicians do when they want to slow a piece of music down?

‘Intellectually disable’ measure 15 and 16?

I know some mudpuppies hail from California, and eaters everywhere need your help. Please visit:

http://www.labelgmos.org and do what you can to get this initiative on the ballot. Genetically modified organisms are not the same as hybridized plants, and endanger our entire food supply. If you can print out a petition and take it to your local health food store, whether it’s a mom’n’pop on the corner or Whole Foods, and get some signatures, it will be a great first step. Farmers markets are a great place to get signers, too.

    Health and peace.

Our rethuglican governor and his nuckle dragging goons here in Ohio want to take over the state GOP. Obviously, they are willing to violate ethics and intimidate to get there.

    Go figure.

    I made it!

This week was the annual Deaf Awareness Week I coordinate every year in my school. It’s a whole week of activities that involve the whole building, from displays in the hallways to special lessons in music, PE and art. More than 200 kids participated in the daily trivia contest and we had some sign language students from the nearby high school visit on Tuesday to enjoy some activities with our deaf/hard of hearing students. A guest speaker came yesterday to share his experiences as a person growing up deaf and I even got some of the staff to complete a quiz on deaf history.

It was a great week, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the kids (and adults) learned a lot.

But, boy, am I glad it’s OVER!!!

(I think I’ll take a few days off before I start planning for next year!)

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Humph! Teaching all that stuff that isn’t on the standardized test! What a waste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • leenie17 says:

Actually, finding answers to questions in text (called DBQs or document based questions) IS a skill that the kids use on standardized tests.

At least that’s the excuse I use! 😉

(And in PE, the teacher had the kids play a timed game that had them searching the gym for playing cards in their assigned suit and making math problems out of them. Pretty creative combining of physical activity and math skills, dontcha think?)

Didn’t what’s her name, she who shall not be named, claim only dead fish go with the flow? In her Alaska all rwnj salmon fry must have trust funds which allow them to charter airplanes for their journey to the sea to frolic and grow and become jaded and cynical, right befiore they off themselves. For the blue collar, working class salmon fry, they have to somehow navigate with the stream flow to the ocean to bust their buns becoming useful, valuable members of the ocean community before maturing and wanting to settle down(albeit briefly) with the partner of their choice and repopulating salmon land. Omagine how much easier the pickings for bears and eagles would be if all returning blue collar salmon were forced to stand in line while having their identities checked, their backgrounds checked, their personal medical files checked-for insurance purposes, being forced to learn Englisn and pledge allegiance to the rwnj god, etc. before being allowed to procreate only with a white salmon of the opposite sex? Any swarthy looking salmon or those with Hispanic sounding names would be held in detention and tortured before being forcibly repatriated to whatever god-forsaken stream they came from. What’s her name’s Alaska wants only certifiable, rwnj, white christian salmon to inhabit their habitat. In just a few short spawning seasons all vital functions would be privatized and cost so much that only extremely wealthy, white ,rwnj salmon could afford to be salmon in white, rwnj Alaska.

    • Man_from_Unk says:

Salmon, salmon, salmon. You are talking my interest except I don’t know how to read your blog mike. Based on my observations, the people have to start telling our state managers what we want for a change. We want more salmon for subsistence. It’s as simple as that. We want more salmon for subsistence!

Sure, there’s a flow chart for “Are You Happy?”

But where is the chart for Bashful, Doc, Dopey?

Why the discrimination against Grumpy, Sleepy, and Sneezy?

    Happyist.

    • Zyxomma says:

slipstream, you do have a way with words. Happyist (as in sexist) made my day.

Alan Dick’s comments about women noted today in Politicus:

  12. Lacy Lady says:

I am the most happy when I am “doing my thing”. I don’t like people messing with my head.
This is sometimes hard to do, as it seems that the “other” people like messing with people’s brains. They like to stir up trouble. They like poking sticks. They won’t admit the fact that they have a problem.
I like to tell these people—–Get a life!!!!!!!!

  13. Mo says:

Going with the flow, herd behavior, and VSP. Or, why we need sites like Mudflats.

    http://www.digbysblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/very-serious-people-on-climate-versus.html

“There will come a day in the future when regular people look back at us, thunderstuck. “Deficits? That’s what these idiots cared about? Their big political arguments were about paying back deficits on bonds held by bankers the government bailed out, right during the middle of a recession, while ignoring the impending climate change disaster? Not only ignoring it, but desperately trying to figure out how to extract more oil? Just how stupid were these people, anyway?”

And the answer will be: we weren’t all stupid. Just the Very Serious People were. Let the blogs stand as testament to the fact that some of us did cry out, like voices in the wilderness.”

  14. mike from iowa says:

RWNJ have had this brought to their attention, via Fake Noise, and they have orchestrated the removal of the center leg of the picture. They want the haves and have-nots to maintain the status-quo and will do all in their power to make certain that never the twain shall meet.

  15. COalmostNative says:

I know someone who can start an argument with a simple “How are you?”

“Going with the Flow” by many Americans is one of the reasons we’re in such a screwed up situation as a nation. Always challenge the Authorities works best…

    • Alaska Pi says:

      Amen to that ben!
And an important subset of Authorityies to be challenged is our own lil selves’ shadow on the horizon obscuring our view.
Some of the dumbest dang mistakes I’ve ever made have had to do with not questioning my own assumptions along with everyone else’s.

      • Alaska Pi says:

        🙂
“Authorityies” is, of course, a rarely talked about but major subset of “Authorities”

  18. Ripley in CT says:

Simplicity would work if everyone did it. But there are people who make a living out of making things complicated. They make me want to throw a rabid badger at them.
