WAR is Over! (Updated with Roll Call Vote)

I have to say it.  I am proud of my Legislature!  Well, I am proud of 35 of them, and that’s saying a lot.  Trust me.

Kudos to the Republicans on the “nay” lists.  It’s not easy to break ranks, and you proved that you have the integrity to do what’s right, despite pressure to the contrary. (Gives you all a nice pat on the back)

And of course, kudos to the Dems who have been working diligently in the madhouse that was the capitol building this week.  You’re in the trenches every day, and we all appreciate your efforts.  (Pats you on the back too)

    I was thinking the same thing about him untill I read his letter(Nelson) it is very self serving and he is acting like a tattle tale in first grade.I would think the fact that he changed is party so fast should be entered into the letter as well seems her forgot to mention that little fact.I too hope the legislature keeps up the good work.Why should MS Palin be allowed to sneak a Republican into a democrat seat?I would think the Man she had as acting AG before War was appointed would again take over,

    Lee 322 you are so right.Thanks for the Many Alaskan that stood up and were counted as being against this man for AG.Was so glad to see that many republicans also stood up and were counted.They did not just follow party line.Thy made their own minds up.I have to say I hope Palin or one of her supporters reads this I woke up at 3 AM Thursday morning and the first thought was a prayer to God ,Please Please do not let this man be appointed.If you have any mercy see that he is rejected.Gods will or not I was afraid to come on or read ADN because I was so afraid of what I would see.All I can say is Thank God he watches over us all not just the chosen few .

    Today is the day to rise up in song and thank god for small favors. I guess her actions are closely watched after all. The Senate and Congress have shown superior intellect and ability to take actions in the best interest of the Alaskan people. I wish everyone that sent letters before the vote would send a note of thanks. They really did serve “the people”.

Amazing that so many R’s voted for an AG who obviously is not concerned with “what is legal or illegal” Actually in reality, does truly reflect the party of NO.     Wow, this is one time I really don’t mind being wrong. Last night I sure didn’t think you had enough votes in the AK legislature to reject Gino’s boy toy, W.A.R. I just couldn’t believe she would leave town if she didn’t have the votes in the bag. I guess that just goes to show she is dumber than any of us thought, and that she really doesn’t know what most of AKians want. The moment she leaves the state’s good law abiding Senators and Representatives did the people proud. Yeah, AK! There are people with backbones and brains up there, I knew it all along. I’m so proud of you and so very happy that you were not saddled with that nut job.     Someone else had posted this on Celtic Diva as well. GINO is NOT the ‘ Main ‘ speaker. That’s not the way we were hearing it. Michael Steele is the keynote speaker. What a disappointment that is….?

    CNN just reported that Steele is the keynote speaker and Palin is a guest. They are supposedly only giving her 5 to 10 minutes to speak – As Candy on CNN – a long way to come to speak for 5 or 10 mins.

    Back on 4-10 all the Legs. were sent an email by myself. Out of all ten of them I got a reply about an hour after the vote from just One. And this guy voted ‘ yes’.

    Dear Governor Palin:
    Please accept this as my official withdrawal from the appointment process for Senate district B. It has become clear to me that the Senate Democrats are not going to support any candidate that is not fully supported by the Juneau Democrats. Unfortunately, the Juneau Democrats thus far are not willing to support anyone other than their number one candidate (or a placeholder until the next election).

    Despite working for two of the top downtown democrats in Juneau for the last five years, the party leaders maintain their empty claim that I am ‘unknown in the party’. They have also mentioned that I do not have ‘enough political experience’ under my belt, ignoring the fact that I have been elected to the board of directors twice by 20,000 shareholders whose political ties to southeast predate statehood and this country.

    This afternoon the Senate Majority Leader told me that he thought it would be illegal to reconsider my name, so the Senate Democrats were not planning to reconsider me or Mr. Grussendorf. A few other Senate Democrats also mentioned legal concerns about the process and reaffirmed their commitment to the Juneau Democrats. It is clear to me that some the Senators are invoking untested legal arguments in order to maintain their partisan stance, but my main point in mentioning this is that the key players are digging in rather than looking for a middle ground for the benefit of Juneau.

    It is unfortunate that Juneau is still without a Senator, but I want to thank you for advancing my name. My qualifications have never been in question. My only downfall in this process has been the fact that I am not ‘the one candidate’ (or a placeholder) that the Juneau Democrats are supporting. I am truly honored to be considered to fill Juneau’s Senate seat. I am comforted by the broad support I am continuing to receive, but I also look forward to continuing my service in other ways for now.
