Downticket Fun!

GOP Senate Majority? Todd Akin has a way of shutting that whole thing down.

Yes, the President has opened up a lead over Willard Romney nationally and, more importantly, in key swing states. Much is being written about it at the moment, so let’s take a moment for a look at some key Senate races.

Virginia
Tim Kaine (D) – 51%
George Allen (R) – 43%
(*Washington Post poll, Sept. 12-16)
Former Governor and DNC Chair Tim Kaine’s new lead tracks fairly closely with the President’s widening spread in the Old Dominion. His opponent is former Senator George Allen of “Macaca” fame.

Massachusetts
Elizabeth Warren (D) – 45%
Scott Brown (R) – 40%
(*WBUR/Mass. poll, Sept. 15-17)
Despite Brown’s frantic attempts to put as much daylight between himself and his party’s Presidential nominee as possible, Romney’s recent rhetorical tour de force amounts to—as Boston Globe columnist Mike Barnicle put it—”a huge in kind contribution to Elizabeth Warren.” It also doesn’t help that the state remembers Romney 1.0, the anti-Reagan, anti-gun, pro-choice and pro-LGBT guy who served as its Governor. We Alaskans appreciate as well as anyone how a former Governor’s numbers tank when said person turns out to be something completely different than what we voted for the moment national politics call for it. Turns out people don’t like being played.

Connecticut
Chris Murphy (D) – 37%
Linda McMahon (R) – 34%
(*UConn/Hartford Courant poll, Sept. 11-16)
As in the Massachusetts race, Connecticut’s GOP Senate candidate is also trying her best to give Romney that stiff-arm move immortalized on the Heisman trophy. And as in Scott Brown’s case, the voters don’t seem to be going for it.

Missouri
Claire McCaskill (D) – 48%
Todd Akin (R) – 43%
(*Real Clear Politics poll, Aug. 22–Sept.11)
Both the RNC and Karl Rove’s “Crossroads” group have pulled their support of Akin, the Legitimate Rape Guy, in what was supposed to be the GOP’s most likely Senate pickup.  So how, do you ask, is it that the Democratic incumbent is only leading the Akin trainwreck by a mere 5 points? Turns out the clever Sen. McCaskill isn’t yet making much of an issue of Akin’s comments, and wants to first pass the point at which he can be replaced on the ballot. Once that happens, look for the Senator to open fire and widen her lead.

Expect more GOP candidates in tough Senate and House races to cut Romney loose, and pivot to a “vote for me to provide a counterweight to Obama’s second term.”

Speaking of House races, here’s a fun one in Kentucky where a coal company executive is busted posing as a miner in an ad:

I’m not a real coal miner, but I play one on TV.

Tim Kaine said today he would see about making every American pay some federal income tax. He must have felt bad about having a lead on Macaca Allen.

It may appear to Romney supporters that much “piling on” over his despicable spiel a few months ago to that small gathering of millionaire backers is occurring. Unfortunately for Romney he doesn’t recall nor payed heed to the old axiom “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. Granted, embellishment of fact takes place continually in politics, but Willard’s campaign has engaged in a demagogic, falsehood riddled, crusade the likes of which US presidential contests have never beheld. To the extent that now the accumulation of lie upon lie has gotten too prodigious for him to cope with.

The magnitude of this brazen rhetoric first caught my eye with the release of an early campaign ad. It quoted then-candidate Obama back in the 2008 campaign saying “if we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.” The problem was, that Obama at the time was actually quoting the words of a strategist from Sen. John McCain’s campaign. When confronted with his campaign’s blatantly dishonest ad, Romney refused to pull it and exhibited a flip, nudge-nudge, wink-wink demeanor. The egregious nature of his attitude left me wondering how long he was going to be able to sustain this subterfuge without garnering public ire.

Today Mittens was assuring the world he cares about 100% of America and he is taking credit for being the grandfather of Obamacare-which he embraced before he despised it and now embraces it again,I think.

Hard not to smile at the way $arah “Bullseye” Palin is referred to here:

“Even worse, while John McCain did in fact indulge the fringier elements in his party during his campaign (mostly through Sarah Palin, their spirit animal), he had some kind of line. Willard “Mitt” Romney has no such scruples. They haven’t quite done it yet, but I suspect if Obama’s current lead keeps up or — God forbid — increases, we’re quite likely to see Romney and the Super PACs hit the switch on really crazy stuff.”

Heh heh… Great responses, mudpups. May all of these tickets go down 😉

Notice none of the Romney-Ryan selling points deal with job creation, just more wealth creation for the military-industrial complex, and their 1% buddies. And insuring the rest of us are second class citizens.

Actually, Romney is a moocher; he takes advantage of tax cuts (thanks Bushes and Reagan) and tax credits (thanks lobbyists) to reduce his tax liability below what many of us pay.

AKM – This is a great post, but your spelling fell a little short. It’s Todd Akin. I think you were probably thinking of Clay Aiken, the American Idol finalist (who also came in second on Celebrity Apprentice). I hope the entire Tea Party goes down with Money Boo Boo.

47% of Americans are starting to know how Seamas must have felt like being strapped to the roof of the car of Romeny’s car.

  7. Lacy Lady says:

The other Republicans running for office are afraid they are going down with “Money BOO BOOs” as Zyxomma calls him. I heard that even Ryan is starting to distance himself .
But we can’t just sit and wait—-we have to get out the vote. Maybe the most important vote in our lifetime.
I see where the vote on veterans jobs didn’t pass. How these people in congress can look any veteran in the face, is beyond me.

  8. Anita Gomez says:

Is there a search on your web page looking for news you posted on the bonehead Mark Ewing so I can warn my friends about this bonehead. Thanks!

Yes, just type “Ewing” in the search box at the upper right. You should come up with a list of articles including his name. AKM”

  9. Alex says:

    No getting complacent!

The only way to stop the GOP’s voter suppression schemes and stop them from stealing the election is to make sure people vote in overwhelming numbers.

  10. AKblue says:

    Way cool!
I wish the election was tomorrow!

    • Zyxomma says:

If the election WERE held tomorrow, Money Boo Boo’s loss would make John McCain’s loss look like a squeaker. rMoney really blew it.
