“Stop it. This is Hard,” Pouts Ann Romney

“Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring,” she said. “This is hard and, you know, it’s an important thing that we’re doing right now and it’s an important election and it is time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt’s qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country.”

So pouteth Ann Romney on Radio Iowa.  And Rafalca wept.

See, our problem is that we just don’t understand what it’s like to be her. It’s hard.

It’s hard to be the wife of a Presidential candidate.

It’s hard to keep all the current answers straight, and be on TV.

It’s hard when people can just treat you any way they want and you can’t fire them.

It’s hard to not be appreciated enough by… you people.

It’s hard when people criticize your wealth, and your sense of entitlement.

It’s hard to be rich and famous.

OK, maybe not that one.

But we just don’t know how hard it really is to be the victim of meanies who want you to release tax returns, and who make fun of your dressage horse, and your car elevator, and your Cadillacs, and your offshore accounts. *sniff*

It may even be harder than eating pasta and tunafish (not the seared kind, the other kind). It might be harder than selling stock to “get by.”

Why can’t everyone just be nice and stop asking all those hard questions, and making secret videotapes and things?

It’s hard when 47% of the country doesn’t like being called moochers.

And it’s hard when people keep pointing out your mistakes.

It’s hard when it’s hard. And that’s just not fair.

And guess what else is even harder than running for President, Mrs. Romney?

Being President.

That’s why you hear Barack and Michelle Obama whining about how hard it is all the time.  Oh, wait…

At least Ann has proven the veracity of one of her husband’s secret campaign strategies – the one where he tells his $50,000 a plate donors in Boca Raton that the campaign is “going to use Ann sparingly, so voters don’t get tired of her.”

Time’s up. That was quick.

It’s hard to get mocked for saying it’s hard.

Jeanne, I have heard that the Presidential debate is going to let the candidates know ahead of time what their questions will be. Is there any truth to this?

I can’t help comparing Mitt & Ann and Bill & Melinda. Both couples are wealth many times greater than the wealth of my wildest dreams, but only one would I trust with Anything! –pretty much– having to do with my future. Maybe I’m just odd that way. beth.

    • There is a big difference though. The Romneys were born into wealthy families, while Bill and Melinda Gates were not. They did earn their money (and were extremely lucky that Microsoft took off like it did). Because of that there are quite a few millionaires in the Puget Sound region who had no idea they woud ever be that wealthy.

They have the memory of what it was like to not have money, while the Romneys have nothing in their past that lets them relate to people who have to choose which bill to pay or whether or not they can go to the dentist of the doctor this month.

What always amazes me is that we have had wealthy families in the US who are/ were compassionate and empathetic – the Kennedy family in particular. So if their parents were able to instill in them the ability to relate to people who weren’t privilaged, why weren’t Mitt and Ann’s parents able to teach those same values?

[I really have to go into the settings on this new laptop of mine and change the “Update” instructions — I had a long post a’going, was nigh on to near the tail end of it, and this machine decided the time had come to load the latest and reboot. Arrrgh. Y’all should be thankful the settings are/were the way they are, though, it was really, Really, REALLY loooooooong post ;-)]

I agree totally the upbringing of the couples was different, PiWs – lost that in the Update. Also lost that I didn’t –and couldn’t– fault M&A their wealth; how ever they got it, they have it. It’s just a fact of their life. And lost how I *know* Ann has “hard” — I do, too; we all do. And that I try to remember to give folks some slack when they start pizzing and moaning about how hard they’ve got it because I’ve been known to pizz and moan a bit, myself — what is ‘hard’ to me, though, might be absolutely ‘routine’ to some one else…the reverse also being true. Lost my tirade on reverse “Airs” and Pretense of people like M&A, too…bringing up his $10K bet comment and her “stop it” comment in the good, old-fashioned rant I had going on. It was at about that point, with 25-30 paragraphs the size of this paragraph (or longer!) all set to submit as soon as I ‘wrapped it up’ with another 5 or 40, that I got Updated.

Jeeze, Louise! — how can I possibly jump into Crotchety Old Lady-dom and its requisite random, age-earned-and-sometimes-relevant, opinionated comments and remarks, if my laptop won’t cooperate? Oy! beth.

Yeah, life is really hard when you can take a $77,000 tax deduction for your dancing horse.

    Poor, poor Ann.

I hope no one is looking. Congress went home for the election with a 13% approval rating.

And the Republican reps. (like the teabagger who is our rep. after the state GOP redistricting last year) is campaigning about jobs! After he joined in the juggernaut against jobs since he took office two years ago. Sometimes I am in absolute awe of the outrageousness of the modern GOP!

  6. laurainnocal says:

Stop it. What a ludicrous edict this queen mormon chose to say. Don’t these people realize they are on a national (global) stage? Just get out of the ring. Aarrghh… the two of them are vomit material.

  7. AKblue says:

Ok, all you little people, wastrels, deadbeats, victims, and peons, listen up: this rich, entitled lady wants her way and she wants it NOW, so just be quiet and count your blessings that her wonderful husband would deign to be your leader!

    Dear Ms Romney-
    Mmmm. Mmmm.Mmmm.
Hon, you just flopped at the GUP requirement we all have for potential First Ladies.
Grace Under Pressure, Hemingway’s reported definition of “guts”
    http://www.timelesshemingway.com/content/quotationsfaq#graceunderpressure
is an essential and necessary quality for spouses of the President.
We may not see it quite the way Mr Hemingway did but we do expect it.
(We will expect it when we finally have a First Gentleman too- none of the TP childish behavior as 1st dude type stuff will be accepted )
Chiding and pouting and the like which are very obvious in this “rally” for your husband , especially as pointed toward potential supporters for his campaign , are the antithesis of GUP, dear.
Matter of fact if one were to grade this talk like an airplane landing , you just came in 9 ft UNDER the runway, hon.
I can forgive your silly poor lil rich lady gaffes. I can forgive your skewed view of any number of things.
I cannot forgive your failure to exhibit GUP.
    Go away.
If Pat Nixon and Laura Bush could manage with the doofs they were married to, why can’t you?

Ms Obama is the embodiment of GUP
Mr Obama pretty much is too, unlike Mr Romney.
The no guts Romneys can go home anytime now and we can get back to trying to fix things.

  10. HoboJohn says:

    You people…..

Imagine Liz Cheney, Sarah Palin, and Ann Romney getting together for gin and tonics and a whiners marathon. One thing Mitt was correct about was worrying we would tire of his Stepford wife.

A tough day for Ann is not seeing her horse win a silver trophy.

  12. benlomond2 says:

    This ain’t your hubby’s country club, ….

  13. Oh, honestly. The woman needs to grow up. Did she think this was going to be easy? It sounds to me like more of the attitude that Romney is entitled to be president so we should all just step aside and let him have it.

She also sounds like the kind of mother who jumps in to save her kid instead of letting the kid learn to fight his own battles. Oops, it’s not her kid but her husband who needs her protection. Well, sorry, Ann, but Mitt’s a big boy and if he (and you) can’t take what everyone is dishing out, he (and you) shouldn’t have gotten in the race to begin with.

She isn’t any better at fending off criticism than Mitt is. That “stop it” sounds like she’s talking to a bunch of 6 year olds who are sqabbling on the play ground instead of adults.

Not well played, that one. But then most of what the Romneys have done hasn’t been, so I’m not surprised.

    • Kath the Scrappy says:

Actually, that was MY thought. She thinks by yelling “stop it” the 47% should behave like her kids in their younger years? Geez, I fear for the country if this overly entitled witch should get into the Whitehouse.

    • Beaglemom says:

I think that both Romneys think that the White House is owed to them.

      • leenie17 says:

And I sincerely doubt that they really want the work that goes along with the position. I think they believe they can just enjoy the perks without all the struggle, frustration and effort, just like they’ve done everything else in their lives.

Let some other slob do the actual job while we (the Annointed Ones) partake in the fancy parties and state dinners, and bask in the adulation from all ‘you people’.

The more I see of them, the more they turn my stomach.

      • nicki hanson says:

Well, it is THEIR TURN, don’t you know?

  14. pswaterspirit says:

Hmmm I work 60 hours a week, barely manage to clear the poverty level for this state and pay a greater percentage of my income to federal taxes than they do. Pardon me for not being sympathetic Ann. …….

But from this comes good. The polls show Romney taking a nose dive for giving voice to the republican ideals in a way that the “little” people understand causing them to run for their lives to the democatic side. It also appears he is taking morethan a few of his buddies in the house and senate with him.

    • Lacy Lady says:

This includes Paul Ryan. He got booed at a rally in New Orleans today. ( AARP)

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/21/paul-ryan-booed-aarp_n_1903937.html

Mr Ryan may be looking for another job .

      • Kath the Scrappy says:

Oh YES and they were sustained Boos! Then the people hobbling OUT in their walkers & wheelchairs (more noticeable than regular folks just walking out).

My SIs & I laughed! Whatever possessed the Romney folks to send this little turd to talk to his elders at AARP?

      • Kath the Scrappy says:

Oh yeah, Ryan’s backhome challenger Rob Zerban appears to be a wonderful, well-spoken opponent. Confess that I’ve donated about 4-pops. He’s been on Ed/Rachel/Lawrence/Chris.

        http://www.robzerban.com/

My Sis & I keep saying ‘wouldn’t it be swell, if Ryan loses VP spot and ALSO loses his Rep seat? Dang, we can dream! This guy is dangerous to America, let him go back to daydreaming his Ayn Rand baloney in his own back yard so this country can start repairing.

  15. Cortez says:

You mean you can get tuna other than in a can? I’m confused.

  16. merrycricket says:

Cry me a river! What a whiner! Our fabulous First Lady has more class in her little finger than queen Ann has in her whole body. She really needs to take her pearls and go home. To quote Shannyn Moore – “Suck it up buttercup!”

  17. Lacy Lady says:

If I have enought money in my piggy bank, I will send Ann enough money to buy a box of Kleenex!
If she thinks Campaigning is hard—-what does she think being first lady would be like.
It appears to me that they are both running out of steam. Think Mr Rommney is taking a day off more often.
Being President is a 24-7 job.

    • Beaglemom says:

Can you imagine Ann Romney “meeting and greeting” the White House tourists as Michelle Obama has done on at least several occasions? Can you imagine Ann Romney letting tourists in the White House at all? What country did the Romneys grow up in – not this one surely! The whole country, if not the world, should be appalled by the snobbish behavior of both Mitt and Ann Romney.

      • leenie17 says:

I’d like to see Queen Ann working in the White House garden with some local Girl Scouts. Can you imagine her kneeling down, pulling weeds and getting her carefully manicured hands dirty???

  18. AKblue says:

And it’s really hard when you are a CEO or bishop and are accostomed to being obeyed and looked up to without question.
It’s funny how the Republicans dish out lies and distortions but when someone points out something truthful about them they yell “mommy, he’s being mean to me.”

    • Lacy Lady says:

      CRY BABY!!!!!!

    • UgaVic says:

What I think is the funniest part of all the whining it is because OTHER REPUBS bloggers and columnists are the ones taking shots at them.

It isn’t the ‘enemy’ but their own kind and she is saying “Stop” :-))

  19. bonefish says:

There is really nothing cogent to be said about this, truly. It is a given that she has no experience with what the actual “it’s hard” is. Has she gone hungry to make sure her children were fed? Did she care for her elderly parents when nobody else would help? Did she work two jobs, get home around 3 a.m. and have to get up at 6 a.m. to be sure the kids went to school fed and clean?
No, she hasn’t and she and her hubbs and her friends and whateverall don’t know, either. I almost feel pity for all of them, so wealthy, so bereft of humanity.
No, Annie, you don’t know what “hard” is.

  20. mike from iowa says:

Ms Money Boo Boo (thanks Zyx} and her pet dressage airplane had to make an emergency landing in Denver. Apparently there was an electrical fire on board…….or Ms Money Boo Boo might still have been fuming over us little people who apparently don’t realize how hard life is for multi-millionaires. Personally,I have no clue what being filthy rich is like. I also don’t worry excessively that my kids and grandkids won’t have million dollar plus trust funds. At least not from me. I wonder if Denver airport had to pay Ms Money Boo Boo for the privilege of her whiny company? I’m surprised the heat houser her horse has isn’t personally engraved dead animal skins. Whatsa matter, can’t they afford it? god I’m cruel!

    • COalmostNative says:

Nope. DIA checked out their plane- both Romneys were on board- and Princess Ann the Priviledged took a different plane on to CA.

That’s the second time there has been plane issues in CO: Mitt the Moneyed cancelled a rally in Pueblo due to a light plane crash at the airport. One of the few occasions he’s shown some class.

Perhaps he’ll stay away from my fair state… one can only hope.

  21. Thomas Kent says:

“It may even be harder than eating pasta and tunafish.”

The only “pasta and tuna fish” I ever ate was Kraft Mac & Cheese with a can of tuna fish thrown in.
By the way, it makes a great casserole. I still like to eat it.

    • ZMan says:

Yea! My enlisted Air Force Dad raised us on that and his version of ghoulash! Good times growing up in a loved family!

    • Me too. Only we used to boil one hot dog and cut it up and mix it in. That was dinner with a small can of peas or green beans (whichever was cheaper) more often than I can count when we got married. Even though I was working full time (teaching) while my husband was finishing his engineeing degree, we had to do some fancy budgeting to make ends meet every month. And we knew we had it better than a lot of people, so we were quite happy to have the Kraft Mac & Cheese, especially when it was on sale for 20 cents a box.

  22. Thomas Kent says:

“If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.”

    • Dax W says:

Kitchen. She couldn’t find the kitchen! Much like their handlers won’t let either one of them stunp in front of a grocery. The stunned look on their faces when it’s explained to them, ” Yes that’s where you buy food” would be priceless

  23. Simple Mind says:

If Mrs. Romney thinks the things said in the campaign are too hard, she might want to think about even a tenth of the hateful, obnoxious things said about President and Mrs. Obama just on Fox News alone. She might want to consider whether the Presidency might be a bit too hard for her and Mittens. Of course, beyond the self-pity, the real meat of the quote is “it is time for all Americans to realize … how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt’s qualifications and experience and know-how to …run this country.”

    • Carol says:

I was against GWBush and most of what he did as President. I NEVER said I hated him, I mightily disliked many things he did but I worked at NOT hating him. I am aghast at the level of hate, pure and simple hate, that some people feel towards President Obama. Worse, I despair at how people hate Michelle Obama. Some of these haters are friends (maybe not for much longer) of mine. One in particular. I can’t believe it’s racism because that person has African children. It’s hate and if it’s bad about the Obamas, it MUST be true, don’t bother to check it, just send it forward. Like I said, the friendship is foundering. Hate is corrosive towards the person who hates and this person claims to be Christian. I don’t know how you can be a Christian and not only hate another person but continue to spew the hatred. Not my definition of Christian and What Would Jesus Do.

      • Elsie says:

Periodically, I wonder whatever happened to “moderate” Christians? To “progressive” Christians? Anybody know?

The haters who call themselves Christians today are NOT.

And that’s who we keep hearing from these days, those angry boobs who are always ranting against the poor, the disabled, the weak, the elderly, the mentally ill, those actual children living outside the womb, who need our help, etc. That whole 47% thing was the best comment to come out of Mittens’ mouth, as it sums up the total arrogance of the shallow-entitled-doofus-of-a-man-who-would-be-president.

And lil Annie suits him to a “T”…

        VAPID, thy name is Ann.

    • dahlia97 says:

I was thinking the same thing about all that Michelle Obama has had to rise above.
And Ann has ALREADY allowed herself to be sucked down into the drama.

  24. HoboJohn says:

Every wage earner pays social security at 15% which is a higher rate of taxation then the Romney’s. Those making 60,000 are paying around 28% which is over twice as much as the Romney’s. But of course they are going to be the whiners saying everyone else doesn’t pay enough in taxes. The truth is always the opposite from what these Republicans say.

The system is rigged aganst the 99 percenters.

    • Zyxomma says:

Is there not a cap on SS? I believe once one is making above $110,000 per annum, nothing above that is withheld for Social Security.

And Ann rMoney is a whiner. Here comes Money Boo Boo:

      http://chrispiascik.com/2012/09/here-comes-money-boo-boo/

    • COalmostNative says:

And- unless Romney is getting a salary from Bain- he doesn’t pay into Social Security.

Interesting semantics with the trust attorney’s 20 year summation of Romney’s taxes: the document used the word “owed” instead of paid. Perhaps that’s why the complete returns won’t be released. And- if Romney is not elected President- he can go back and amend his 2011 return and take the full charitable deduction, which will drop his tax rate to approximately 9% instead of 14%. He will have 3 years to do so- Romney also took other deductions to get his effective rate down to 14%, as capital gains rate is 15%.

Oh, the games rich people play…

      • Maybe because he pays someone to do his taxes he doesn’t think any of us know how it works. We have a lot of friends who aren’t in the same tax bracket as the Romneys who have their taxes done. Hubby and I have always done our own. So after almost 40 years, I’ve read through every tax booklet and schedule. At some point we may get sick of doing it, but for right now I’m kind of glad that I kno what’s in there. When we sign our name on the form, we know what we have signed and that gives me a good feeling. If we have taken a deduction it was because it was allowed, not because we were twisting the tax code to find the loop holes.
