Oyster Roundup!

~Thick and fast they came at last, and more, and more, and more!

Here are a half dozen quick, slurpable stories to say farewell to the week.

***************************

Quote of the Week:

“He makes Michelle Bachmann sound like a hippie.” -Sen. Claire McCaskill on Todd Akin

Awesome New Website – Captain Zero v. Senate Heroes!

The latest administration plan to give away $2 billion in no strings attached money to oil companies will eventually bankrupt the state of Alaska. The bipartisan state senate coalition has said no dice. Bipartisanship that puts Alaska first is the firewall.

Herding …the Mayor?

Talkeetna’s Mayor Stubbs got locked in a room during last week’s flooding for his own good. Yes, he’s a cat. And no, he was not pleased.

Desertion and Cowardice

An Anonymous Senate Republican is blocking a cost of living increase for disabled veterans. It’s a shame there’s no court martial for the Senate.

Here we go again…

After a record snowfall season in Anchorage last winter, snow returned to the city on Saturday for the first snowfall of the winter 2012/13 season. The average first date for a trace of snow for Anchorage is October 6th, and the average first date for measurable snowfall 0.1″ or greater is October 15th. The earliest measurable snowfall ever recorded in Anchorage was September 20th back in 1947.  Mudflats Central was in the 7-inch territory.

Hooray! The Plasma Blob is Coming!

Don’t fret about all that snow. Mother Nature is making it up to us. A “plasma blob” of geomagnetic energy is headed our way caused by a coronal mass ejection from the sun. And that means northern lights! They should put on a good show tonight (Sunday) with aurora visible from the north, all the way to Juneau. So don’t forget to look up!

Haven’t seen anything from LKB for a couple weeks. Does anyone know if Linda is well? I’d appreciate any news.

I hope this is an open thread; this is too good to pass up:
Here is a great little news story on pre-debate, zinger-prepped Romney: Paul Ryan calls him inarticulate and Ann worries about his emotional stability. Wow!

I put out a sorta apb on the tundra tart on the Soo City Journal Opinion page today. I suggested that Exxon was the only entity that couldn’t locate a publicity hoar like SP. So they decided they couldn’t post it because of profanity. This is getting good if they think Snowdrift Snookie is profane. Alas, that wasn’t the problem. Seems like someone was offended by the word hoar. So I re-typed it WH. ORE and that was acceptable. Wish someone would print a book of words acceptable to small town newspaper moderators just to save me some time.

I thought you might enjoy this video from the junior Senator for NY, Kirsten Gillibrand:

Did I miss the note on the recinding of the sidewalk sitting ordinance in Anchorage? That did happen, right?

Some things are better left unsaid, undid, undone etc,and this bright idea qualifies. IMO.

Hooray for Open Thread… And send some snow our way, we’ll take it early, late- whenever 😉

        I agree. Love Eli.

        • mike from iowa says:

Lacy Lady I have some good? news for Iowans. Secretary of State Schultz is gonna be investigated for spending money allocated to signing up voters-to pay for an investigator trying to disqualify them. That was in the DM Register. The AG ,Miller hired two special prosecutors thirty months ago to investigate an illegal campaign contribution to Chet Culver by a casino group. The prosecutors never targeted Culver and announced that they dropped all charges in exchange for a 4000 dollar fine from the casino group, with no findings of wrong doing, one attorney paid 350 bucks and a different casino group paid 100 dollar fine. The two prosecutors billed the state $181,517 and there is no word how much the state has to pay for at least 10 investigatirs.181 thousand bucks to collect 4500 bucks in fines over nearly three years. No wonder states are broke.
