You. Must…. Readthisnow.

When cast into the depths of local political despair, it’s easy to overlook the small happy occasions and events in life. Luckily I sent myself a reminder last year on March 23 to arrive today, March 22. I remembered one day too late for 2012, but thanks to my little gift to the me of the future (which is now), we can all enjoy the unofficial “International William Shatner Day.” Today is William Shatner’s birthday, and before you think I’m just being a nerd, remember that I can be a nerd AND stick to the Alaska theme. Behold the one degree of separation.

First, let’s take a little trip down memory lane.

Here is Shatner with the quintessential Captain Kirk monologue as a benchmark.

Fast forward to 2009. I didn’t think I could love Shatner any more than I did already, but THIS. This was a magical night. He appeared with Conan O’Brien and read a selection from Sarah Palin’s final speech as Governor of Alaska, delivered in Fairbanks at the event we Alaskans like to call “Quitstock.” She stood before the masses and spoke into what looked like the disembodied limb of a wolf. This is what came forth. It was a beautiful thing.

And for those of you who’d like to try your hand at imitating the Master Thespian, here is a hilarious tutorial with all the tricks of the trade from the third-greatest Shatner impersonator of all time.

MudDate 03222013: Tune. In. Next time for… More mud.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing this bit o’ comedy Jeanne. 🙂

I just wish that Sarah Palin would go away and raise her children and volunteer somewhere and never text or facebook or email or speak into a microphone again. We, the people, need a rest from her nastiness and insanity.

Thanks for a much needed break from the “other news”.
    I watched the recitation twice!
    Happy Birthday, Mr. Shantner.

Once again, thank you! He said it so much better, but still didn’t make much sense.

    Merciless Rivers!

That was the beauty of “Palin comedy.” Shatner and Tina Fey didn’t need to make anything up. Just repeating her word salad nonsense was genius.
